How to create a DVD.

Hi all.
I've imported a 1980x1080 25p video.
Now I'm working on a project with iMovie 11To then export to Compressor 4.
What are the settings to create a DVD with good quality compatibbile dvd home?
And 'possible to have a step by step guide to get it right?

If you want to create and burn this DVD in Compressor, please understand going in that you'll only have a very basic menu. If you need more, then use iDVD (if you have it) or Roxio Toast. If you do use iDVD, ther's probably no need to use Compressor.
I would recommend you export a Quick Time movie in the Pro Res 422 codec from iMovie. Other formats are acceptable, but I think PR is more reliable.
As to quality, Compressor can do a decent job if you just use the Create DVD preset from the Batch Template. It will, however, be standard def, since that is what DVD is. Compressor will automatically re-size it to 720X480 anamorphic. If you open up the Preview window, you can set chapter markers.
Insert a disk into your drive and you should be good to go.

If you are starting in SD and can use compressor, that works better: there are more knobs to twist to adjust the results to your liking. Going from HD to SD, I think compressor or a third party encoder is a must. Just too many things to tweek to get it right for the video you shot.
AC3 has another advantage in addition to file size: bit rate. There is a limit on what DVD players will handle - usually less than 10mb/s. And if you can have video + audio well under that, you disc will be compatible with more players. If can always put both on the DVD, and use a menu to let a user pick one, but you don't want menus yet, as you said. Many music DVDs do just that: PCM for best fidelity (it is noticeable on a really high end system that most mortals don't have), or DD, even 5.1 for everyone else.
Encoding: I use 7.5mb/s max for video, and adjust the "average" depending on how big my video is; I've used as low as 4.2 for stage plays and it was not too bad. If you have a short video, you might use CBR (contstant bit rate) at 7.5 for the best quality. I likewise adjust my AC3 bit rate; 192 stereo where I must save space and the original sound quality was not great anyway, up to whatever the max is (384, I think).

I have created a video in iMovie and am trying to transfer it to a DVD. However, there is no Export function. When I share the movie to a file it uses a .mp4 format which is then not able to be be burned to a disc. In the past, the extension was .mov and I was able to create a DVD without any problems.

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

how would I go about creating a dvd menu, either within a program or in a program that can be burned with another program? I have adobe and macromedia suites, so hopefully I have the programs that are necessary, but I don't even know where to begin.

Adobe Encore will create menus for you. Encore is now bundled with Premiere pro.

How to create a DVD from several FCP projects?

I'm strugeling to create a DVD. I feel like a fool because it used to go so easy with my old computer but with my new Mac it doesn't seem to work.....
What I'm doing:
- Footage MTS 1920x1080, 24Mbps .MOD files
- I upload them from my camera into FCP
- I make projects (let say 20 different ones)
- I want to put all the projects on 1 DVD as seperate 'chapters/ icons'
- With FCP I can only put one project at the time on a DVD, so that doesn't work
- I bought DVD creater to put the exports of FCP on a DVD, problem I can not create a export out of FCP that will be recognised by dvd creater.
I know that I will be able to convert my FCP export into something else by some programme. But this is a work around, I don't really want to do such a extra step because the quality will be lower.
Ik hope someone has a solution for me!

I have just exported the slideshow from iPhoto to the iPhoto Slideshow Folder, opening iDVD.
I selected create a new project as EJ3 in MoMs folder hit CREATE and iDVD quit, disappears,
THE iDVD icon is still active on the doc but how ever it is simply GONE,
this is the second time i tried this. I will restart the computer and come back and try it again.
OK. I restarted the Mac, opened iDVD, selected MAGIC iDVD and in the movie section EJ3 was no where to be found.
I will now close iDVD and try create a new project, saved MY GREAT DVD to the desktop.
Cannot find EJ3 or the other exported iPHOTO slide shows under Elizabeth.....

but I can't select, or import, or open in iDVD.
I am totally lost and thinking that this can't be done for some unknown reason.
I am thinking if iMOVIE is the way to go OR if I should delete iDVD and reinstall it from the iLIFE disk.
I am sorry for all this failure.

How to create a dvd for stereo and 5.1

Hi to everybody
I wonder if I can use stereo files (aiff and wave) to create a dvd that will work with a stereo system and a 5.1 system. I made a dvd before and one of the shortfilms couldn´t be read in 5.1, but the rest worked perfectly, so I don´t understand how it works. Do I have to make a menu for 5.1 another for stereo, or it could work with both?

At product/category/sku level there is a property called template.
Find the property in ACC/BCC and provide all the values including the URL property.
In you jsp, you can use this property from product/sku like the way you retrieve any other property from sku/product.
<dsp:valueof param="product.template.URL" />
Using that property with <dsp:include> includes that page.

DVD Studio Pro - How to create a DVD playable on all mediums

I'm trying to create a DVD playable on all mediums, i.e Mac, PC, home DVD players. I have placed all assets in appropriate places etc, menus built correctly, end jumps etc set correctly. The simulation shows me what the DVD will play like on my mac, but when I burn (in HD mode using either DVD+RW or DVD+R DL) it does not play on PC or other DVD players, including my PS3 or XBOX360 any ideas why?

If you're in HD mode you're making a HD DVD. Search for info on it as there are lots of threads on here but basically you can only play HD DVD content (even if on DVD-R etc) in HD DVD Players. Not PS3, DVD Players and so on. If you have the (discontinued) 360 HD DVD drive add-on you can get the 360 to play it too.
If you want better luck you'll need to use SD DVD and search for tips on that.

How to create a DVD that can play on a computer

I've finally become familiar with using Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore. When I'm creating a DVD I understand that it will be played on any standard DVD player but I would also like to have it play on a computer. Is there a setting which will allow this to happen?
I've tried playing it on my PC as well as another, but nothing happens.
Have I overlooked something?

Nearly every DVD that will play on a set-top player *should* play on a computer, provided two things:
1.) the computer has a DVD player that can handle that flavor of DVD media, DVD RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD DL, etc.
2.) the computer has a software player installed. This feature has been removed from some common media players. You may need to locate, download and install a separate software player.
There could be another discussion on interlaced vs progressive scan media, but I'll let you ask that question.

How to create a DVD from mts in Premiere

With my old camcorder I captured avi files in Premiere, exported them and created the DVD with Encore.
Now I have a new camcorder. I capture the files to the PC with the camcorders transfer utility and I imported the mts files in Premiere and cut them there.
As I want to export now I see that on File/export everything is greyed except AAF and Final cut pro XML. No idea what animals those are but certainly not the film/a format I can take to Encore to make the DVD.
As you see I am not an expert in all that and I have no idea now what to do. Can someone help me please ?

Which version of Premiere? CC does not include Encore, but you can download the Encore CS6 from your account. As it is part of Premiere CS6, I believe you would need to download and install Premiere/Encore CS6, and then you can uninstall Premiere CS6, leaving Encore CS6 installed.
If you have Premiere CS6, then you already have Encore CS6. In either case, from Premiere, use File > Export > Media to open Media Encoder. For FORMAT, choose "MPEG-2 DVD", then choose an appropriate preset from the list. For instance, if editing with 1080i, then you might choose NTSC Widescreen High Quality. For 1080p, then use the Progressive version, etc.
What is your source video format? If starting with HD, then check the box at the bottom of AME for Max Render Quality, it helps with the scaling.
Hit EXPORT at bottom and it exports two files, an .m2v for video and .wav for audio. Open Encore, start a New DVD project, and then File > Import > As Timeline and grab both those files for import. From there, I recommend finding an Encore tutorial, too involved for me to type it all out here.
Hope this gets you going at least, but search online for tutorials, there is plenty of good, free stuff out there

How to create a DVD with 2 separate movies?

I'm a coach - and as I break down game film for my team, I'd like to distribute a single DVD with an Offensive film and a Defensive film, on a single DVD. Once I edit the original clips, I usually have about 20 minutes of offense, and 25 minutes of defense. Is it possible to open a DVD menu, in PE and just drag/drop my two films into the menu? I've already made the separate films - just can't find a way to put them on the same DVD - with separate launch buttons.

In Premiere Elements, it is the placement of the menu markers at the Timeline level in Edit that is going to be the important first step. There placement at the Timeline level will determine how they are represented (linked to) the buttons in the menu(s). The menu markers for this are going to be main menu markers and stop markers as per details.
1. Setting up the Timeline.
Place a main menu marker at the start of the first file of Offense Section.
Place a stop marker at the end of the last file of Offense Section.
Leave a few frames gap between the end of the Offense and the start of the Defense.
(You cannot sit one marker on top of another)
Place a main menu marker at the start of the first file of Defense Section.
DO NOT place a stop marker at the end of the last file of Defense Section.
2. As shown in the blog post to which I referred you for background information, there are two types of buttons we could use for Offense button and Defense button on the main menu. Let us start with using just the thumbnail type button.
For now we will be assuming the end product as DVD-VIDEO Standard (4:3) on DVD disc.We will use the Sports/(AV)Extreme theme and do some file switching.
a. You need to get copies of the following files from the Program Data
sportchannel_pal_s_sm.psd
sportchannel_pal_s_mm.psd
They are copied at their saved located
Local Disk C
Program Data
Adobe
Premiere Elements
11.0
Online
DVD Templates
All_Lang
Sports
and in the Sports Folder are those two files cited above which you copy and paste to an empty folder that you created on the computer desktop.
b. Switch the file names so that the main menu has the scene menu design and vice versa. And, modify the names so that you do not mix up these modified files with anything else.
So, you want to end up with a folder name mysportchannel on the computer desktop
and in that folder are the two files who names you switched and changed.
sportchannel_pal_s_sm.psd is changed to mysportchannel_pal_s_mm.psd
and
sportchannel_pal_s_mm.psd is changed to mysportchannel_pal_s_sm.psd
Take the desktop mysportchannel folder with these modified files and place it in the following spot in the following path...

Program Files
Adobe
Premiere Elements
11.0
DVD Templates
Common
and in the Common Folder place the mysportchannel folder.
When you go to select this theme in the Movie Menu customization of the opened project, look under the Slideshow catagory.
You should be looking at something like this in the Movie Menu customization area
Lots ot fine tuning yet to be done, detail wise.
1. Is your end product, DVD-VIDEO standard 4:3 or widescreen 16:9.
2. Do you want the music background that comes with the original main menu?
3. Do you want a Play All opportunity? This one allows for pick one or the other then return to the
main menu.

How to create a DVD link/alias

How do i create a link (or alias) to the DVD? It works if use a CDROM - no problems - but a DVD -no. The main problem is Front Row that wont play filmclips in another place that the "Film" folder. I prefere to save films on DVD, not CDs (wonder why?), this means that i must copy them to the harddrive just to watch them.
Why is evrything conserning DVD:s in tiger just bugs?

A DVD that plays on the TV will not have web links, even when played on a computer.
You can export flash versions, but that version will not be playable on a TV. An Encore flash export can (I think) have URL links, although I have not done it.
I wonder if there is a way to have the computer launch a flash version rather than the TV version.It would be a manual start I suspect.

I made an iMovie but don't know how to create a DVD

I made my first iMovie on my Macbook Pro which has the latest OS and iMovie software...but I don't know how to get it onto a DVD (or some other storage device). It is 3 hours long, so I started to finalize the project this morning and the countdown clock said 16 hours remaining when I left home this morning...yikes.
Any guidance/suggestions/resources would be deeply appreciated. I bought high capacity blank DVDs that hold 240 minutes of video, but I feel like I am doing something wrong, here.
If it helps, this is a school project that I have to mail to the instructor, so video sharing apps aren't an option.
