How to create a PDF that prints at actual size for all printers

I create printable educational products for teachers and homeschoolers.  I need to be able to make some printable PDFs that have cards set to a specific dimension, say 3" x 3".  When I create PDFs in InDesign and print them, the printer tends to shrink the PDF down.  This happens even when I set the Page Scaling to None.  But regardless of what my printer does, I would like to be able to create PDFs that print at actual size for anyone who purchases my products.  How can this be done?  Can I change the settings when I create the PDF?  Do I need to includes special instructions with my products?  Thanks so much for your help.

You can specify the printing process in the PDF for Acrobat and Reader, open the PDF in Acrobat > file properties (right mouse click on the page) and in the extended tab (the most right tab) you can set printing not to scale for that PDF as default setting.

  • Can you lock a pdf to print in Actual Size?

I'm having an issues when others go to print out a document and don't make sure the document is set to print in actual size and we lose the scaling on the document. Is there a way to lock the print settings on a pdf so they are always correct?

You can set a Print Preset in Acrobat Pro in File > Document > Advanced which controls the way the Print dialog initially displays. Of course, someone could also change it. You cannot lock the print settings.

  • Is it possible with Adobe Acrobat to create a PDF that has multiple usernames/passwors for read access and individualised watermarks or with any other adobe product?

    Hi,
We're looking for a solution where a PDF can be created and distributed to multiple people - each with their own username/password to open - and also when opened created a user based water mark on the document. Is this something that can be done inside Acrobat Pro or is there a higher end product that does this?
    Thanks!

If the list of people who and only who you want to be able to open this PDF is predefined, then you can use Certificate Encryption in Acrobat. For this method to work each of possible recipients of the encrypted PDF needs to procure a digital certificate with a private key enabled for encryption and send you the public key version of this certificate. Then you encrypt this PDF with public key certificates (there may be many of them) of all recipients you want to be able to open this PDF. Then you distribute this PDF to all recipients and each of them can then open this PDF with their private key certificates.
You can also create PDFs with Optional Content which contains different watermarks with the selector for a watermark based on user ID or some other identification of the user. I do not know, though how to create such Optional Content using just Acrobat Pro. You may need to write a plugin to Acrobat to do that.

  • How can I make Preview open to actual size for all images?

In Snow Leopard, Preview open all images actual size. In Mountain Lion, vertical images (and all images larger than the screen) fit to the screen and I have to use the keyboard command to see actual size. What happened, and is there any way to fix this?

Open a PDF in Preview. Now, right-click on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar ...
Drag the circled items from the customize panel to your toolbar and release there.
Click the middle button in the Zoom panel. The Scale will report 100%.
Your future Preview documents will open at 100% now.

  • How to create interactive PDF that can be submitted through website?

I have created an interactive PDF with a submit button at the bottom that will send to my email when clicked. However, when I uploaded the form to my website to test it, the form didn't do anything once I clicked the 'submit' form.
So my question is: What do I need to do to allow the form to submit from my website? I am using Acrobat 9 Pro and Dreamweaver Cs5 if it makes a difference.
    Thanks!

Chrome has its own PDF viewer plugin that is quite buggy when it comes to PDF forms (as do Firefox and Safari, by the way).
So yes, the best solution is to download the file and then open it locally using Adobe Reader. However, you can't enforce that. It's up to the user and their browser settings. You can only recommend it to them.

    Hi,
i have created some WI reports over a universe. I need to move the report and the universe to different CMS.But i'm not able to open the .unv file for the othere CMS in Designer, i'm getting FRM00008.Could some one let me know if i'm missing any thing in the universe that i have created. or do i need to modify some thing in there.

    Ok.
    Take a textfield
Go to Object | Allow multiple lines
Go to Layout | Height | activate "Expand to fit"
    Go to the initialize-Event or readyform (You have to change the _ for your textfield)     this.rawValue = "___________\n___________\n___________";
    Go to the enter-Event   this.rawValue = null;
    Go to the exit-Event
              if(this.rawValue == null)
                    this.rawValue = "___________\n___________\n___________";
              }else{}
With this solution you can simulate the same as pattern see above.
I hope this is helpfull for you,

  • PDF not showing at actual size

I have a website mockup design (72dpi) created in Fireworks. I often provid these for client review as PDFs. However, recently, the PDFs are not displaying properly.
I've tried various ways of creating the PDFs: place Fireworks png in InDesign, open PNG in Photoshop, print to PDF from FW...
When I open these PDFs at 100% they are oversized. Why aren't they displaying at proper size? It is a problem for a lot of biz Acrobat users as they don't know the proper size to display the mockup to see them properly.
Seems like such a simple thing, but I cannot determine the resolution. I simply want the PDF to display at actual size for screen viewing, 100%. Normally, it's easier to create PDF then to publish mockup designs to the web wrapped in web pages.
    Any enlightenment is appreciated.

Interesting...I don't recall seeing that pref in the past. I'm using v8.1.6 and it is there. "System setting" is 99 px/inch. And here all these years I thought my Macs were 72 px/inch but Acrobat believes it to be 99. Which also explains why at 75% they looked closer to actual size.
I changed that setting to 72 and it display perfectly. But, as you said, that setting on someone else's system is beyond my control.
Seems pretty screwy that Acrobat itself drives how a user sees a document rather then the document delivering it's actual dims/resolution. I'm simply surprised that I've not known this all this time.
It depends upon the resolution of the monitor used and the Graphics Card used in your system.
Usually it would be 72. but for example above in the Screen shot I showed my PowerBook 17" does infact use 98DPI.
I don't know whether you noticed the drop down box for Zoom level All I have shown is fit to Page but there is also fit to width  along with percentages going all the way up to 200%.
If you want you can set back to 99 and change the zoom level you normally see when openning a file.

  • How to create a pdf for print in print order ie p1&20, 2&19 etc

    Hi,
    This forum is amazing!
This may be a super obvious question but I can't work it out.
Is there a way to create a pdf that organizes the pages in the correct order for printing?
    ie page1&20 together,
    pages2 &19 together, etc.
    Thanks
    Nik

    Everything that Peter has said
If you supply a file that is done like
    20|1
    2|19
    18|3
    16|4
    etc.
The printers might charge you more for prepress time, as they'd have to separate the pages again to impose.
You don't know what machines they have, how they want to impose it or if they are going to perfect it or not. You don't know what size the macine is or the plate size or if they have only 2  x 2 colour machines.
I am with Peter. I would not trust a printers who requested work sent like I have illustrated. I would run as far away as possible from a company that requested this. A printing company that can't impose a 20 page document is crazy, shouldn't happen.
But as Peter has said, you can do it in Print Booklet and with various scripts.
But you can do it by setting a new document up. Then use File>Place to place page 20,1, 2,19 etc.
Use the Pages Panel and toggle the allow document and pages to shuffle (two items) to move pages to facing spreads.
Then just place your pages where necesary.

Which Adobe product can create a PDF that cannot be altered or printed by the recipient?

    Hi quoman,
It sounds like you're asking how to add security to a PDF file. You'll need Acrobat Pro or Standard to do that. If you don't have Acrobat, you may try it for free for 30 days. See www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.

  • How to create an applet that shows a pdf as non-editable.

    Hi friends,
Does any one know how to create an applet that shows a pdf document (should make that pdf a non-editable one) while clicking a link. Its urgent for me as I have to complete this one tomorrow itself...please help me...
I am able to view the pdf document but that cannot be make a non-editable one.
Can anyone gave me the code for that one....please I am not very much good in Java.

PDF is a proprietary format and Java doesn't support it by default. Are you using a 3rd party tool to create the PDF? If so, you need to review the developer docs to see how to make the document non-editable. Frankly, I don't see why you're using an Applet to view a PDF in the first place. What exactly are you trying to do. I'm confused.

  • How do you create a PDF that shows up on the opening of an e-mail

I use to be abel to create a PDF that I could drag onto the desktop of an email and it would show up as part of the e-mail when opened as well as an attatchement. Is there an actual procedure for creating one or is it random?  Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't?

There is no procedure. Whether it shows up or not is purely dependent on the receivers email application and their preferences.
As always, I suggest if you want to do something like that, you should create an HTML email. There's a bit more control although it isn't foolproof either.

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?
    Yuri
    Imac
    Iphoto 11 (9.4.2)

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

  • Creating a pdf that contains forms

I am trying to create a pdf that combines three pdfs and several forms that I created in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2. I have enabled using Reader to complete the forms so that they can be saved once completed.
My problem is that when I try to combine file in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, it won't let me add the forms because they are Adobe XMS forms.
I did not intend to save the forms as XML forms, so I'm wondering how to save the forms so that they can be combined into one pdf.
I tried the portfolio option, but feel that this format will be confusing to the people who need to use the packet.

I actually found a workaround, although it doesn't save a lot of work...
I opened the form I created in Designer in Acrobat, and then I printed it to a file. That generated a post-script file, which I ran through the Distiller to create a new pdf that is unaffected by the XML problem.
Yes, I had to re-enter my fields, but at least I didn't lose all of the work - and formatting - I did in Designer.

  • Create a PDF that mimics the flyer

I want to create a PDF that you can "flip through." I've seen it done before, but I'm not sure how to do it. I am creating a flyer and I want to send it electronically, but I want the readers to be able to still flip through the flyer as they would if it were in print. The way I have seen it done is there are arrows under the flyer and they click the forward arrow and the screen makes the image look like it's opening and then it displays the inside...same thing when they move to the back cover.
Anyone know how I can accomplish this?
Thanks for any help in advance! I really appreciate it.

I bet this has flash features.

  • How to create a pdf file from multiple images ?

    Dear All,
I want to create a SINGLE page pdf file from two or more page size images that are combined to make a single page pdf. Again, this question is on pdfs that are made out of several, atleast  two color images and a black-and-white mask for one of them.
I have such pdf files from an unknown source (the producer is edited out) whereby there are three tiff images, obtained using the well known pdfimages extractor.
When I want to make a pdf out of tiff or png or other image formats, I right click and tell Adobe Acrobat to make a pdf.
However, I dont know how I can give a command to select say,  three tif images and specify which is the mask for which and then join  them in a way that I get the pdf from the composite of the two color images and a mask for one of them.
    Please help me out.
I am a little familiar with the pdf structure skeleton and when necessary, fixed xref tables in one of my favorite editors. A few years ago, I also wrote a bunch of javascripts to make some annotations and needed some automation and used some itext type libraries. However, I need your help in this problem as I am now rusty and forgot some of what I studied to solve my earlier problems. This is a new problem for me. Gentle hints from you would be very nice to help me in this problem. Please specify if necessary what manual and pages to read. in the pdfspec.

I would gladly mention that I am working on windows platform, preferably XP.
I can also work on linux for free products that come with it.

But adding other products, for the help of an adobe products user,
even if it outside adobe, shall add greater prestige to your company
    and give impression of user-centeredness.

Well, just add the few pdf stanzas since you are proficient on it and
I am presently a little rusty as I mentioned. Just asking a little
extra yard, not even to go an extra mile.

Well, ascii format or uncompressed format that is human readable. I
know its a binary file, but human readable ascii version of it.
I hope you can give me some stanza and various other approaches
possible so I can select or combine things for myself. I see only a
miniscule number of posts claiming to have written masks in this forum
    and then with no details.
