How to create a podcast?

I'm so very confused--I've Googled and read the docs, but I can't find a solution for what I'm trying to do, which I imagine is pretty basic.  I'm clearly misunderstanding something.
I have a program written that goes to my organization's website and downloads new and updated PDFs and MP3s to my Dropbox folder.  I'd like to make a podcast that makes automatically distributes those files to subscribers.  Pretty straightforward, right?  Everything I can find seems to insist I make a blog first, which I think is unnecessary for my purposes.  Is that a requirement?  Also, I've been told that putting the RSS feed in my Dropbox will create problems.  Is that true?  If so, can anyone recommend some free or cheap alternatives?

See the link above:
Plain and simple just don't use dropbox for our podcast files or RSS feed hosting if you actually want your podcast to work well with iTunes and iOS devices.
Dropbox is not meant for podcasting.

  • How to create a podcast in Logic Pro X

Hi there!  I do not currently own Logic Pro X but am considering purchasing it today.  I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro retina and have been DJing for the past 5 years.  In the past, I would create my mix as a WAV file, open up GarageBand, use GB's podcast tempalte to throw in my WAV file and chapter the 2 hour mix into various chapters (i.e. songs) so that I could identify each chapter (song) with a title, artwork, and download link.
Apparenlty the newest version of GarageBand (X, which comes with the new MacBook Pro retina) no longer supports podcasts.
So my question is whether Logic Pro X DOES support podcasts?  Can I take my WAV file and chapter it with artowrk, title, and download links?  Since there is no trial version I have been unable to test for myself.
    Thank you,
    Keith

No.. LPX doesn't provide any facilities specifically for podcasts.... and would probably be complete overkill for what you need...
    Note:
The older version of GB that did support podcasting should still be present on your Mac as the new version of GB doesn't overwrite or remove the old version....

  • What software did they use to create the tutorials for creating a podcast?

I just downloaded the 8 tutorials that are posted on iTunes on how to create a podcast. What I am really looking for is what program they might have used to create those tutorials. The screen capture has some very nice features, like highlighting certain areas, dimming the background, voice and video capture, zooming into certain areas. I don't think it is Snapz but I could be corrected.

    Hey thanks for answering.
The tutorials show how to use Garageband and are really quite nice. What I am after though is the software they might have used to create those tutorials.
Go to iTunes > music store > podcasts and type in "learn to podcast" it will be the top choice. And look at one of them, very nice creen capture functionalities.
    Thanks, Frank

  • How to create a Video Podcast?

    Hi,
I have a question about how to create a Video Podcast.
What I like to do is record what I can see ON my screen. And I don't want to use a Video Cam to make Videos of it.
If anyone knows how to to that or if there is an application I could use it would be great.
What I am looking for more or less is an App like Audio HiJack Pro - well more like a Video HiJack Pro. The question is not about how to do the encoding once I have the Video.
Any ideas? Any would be great. Just tell me how its done and what I need to buy.
    Thanks a lot

    LaForge,
I use Snapz Pro X by Ambrosia Software.
I've made some video podcasts of tutorials of iMovie for my work, and you can see them here: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=74837876
The video gets jerky when capturing the video within iMovie, but it may be because I only have 512 MB of RAM. But for just capturing stuff like opening folders and what not, it will do the trick.

I need recording software for the DivineDiva Talk Show. How do I get the podcasting to start and record?

    Hello DivineDiva100
You can use GarageBand to create your Podcast. Everything that you need to know about how to create one, submit one and everything else in between are in the articles below.

  • How to create a Download button in podcast entry

I've created a site with multiple podcast. I created the podcast by just dragging and dropping mp3 files to the image placeholder. This seems to work fine. Now I'm trying to add a download link for each podcast in the Archive page. The idea is that site visitors can choose to download the mp3 file rather than use quicktime to hear it from my site. How do I do this?
Also I've tried to put a download link in each podcast page. I'm having difficulty getting this done as well. Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Angelo

    Angelo:
This might help since I did something similar. If you understand where your podcast is stored on your iDisk, then you can link to that file by telling iWeb that it is an external link. Then your visitors can control-click or right-click the link and from the popup menu choose to download the linked file.
The trick is finding the right web address for the mp3 file. I can get you started if you can't figure out the url.

  • How do you create a podcast list by adding files?

I have a site that has mp3s, but no podcasting subscription type tools (http://www.emmanuelnyc.org/sermons/index.html)
I want to download the mp3s then listen to them on my ipod touch.
How do I create a podcast group and add these files to it? I tried "add folder to library" and "add file to library" and cant' find it anywhere in itunes. Tried searching and searching... no clues.
    any assistance appreciated.

The page you linked to has only MP3 files. There is no RSS feed (Podcast button), so those files cannot be downloaded "as Podcasts".
However, if you right-click  any one of them you will see an option to "Save link as..." or "Save file as...", which will then allow you to download and save the MP3 onto your computer. It is not a Podcast, it is simply an MP3 file.
A Podcast is a file (usually audio or video) that has been downloaded using an RSS feed. It is the process of being downloaded as an RSS feed that defines it as a Podcast. No matter what anyone else tells you, you cannot download an MP3 file and the turn it into a Podcast.
Since the site provides no method of downloading the files in bulk, or automatically, then you will have to download each one individually. Put them all in one common folder.
To add them to your iTunes Library, in iTunes, turn on the menu bar using the CTRL+B command. Then, on the File menu is...
and using Add Folder To Library will allow you to add the files, in that folder, to your Library in one move.
Now that the files are in your Library, you still cannot "make them appear to be Podcasts". Once again, this is the case - no matter who might tell you otherwise.
    But -
I'm going to assume that you do not want these files to play when you're listening to your music, especially in shuffle mode. This is often why people want to set these files as Podcasts (and various bodges have been tried in order to try and achieve this end).
The trick is to set the files to Skip when shuffling and this can be done to all the files at once. Highlight all the files in question and select File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling and change the drop-down to Yes.
Now, since they are set to skip when shuffling, that's exactly what will happen. It also means that you can start (and play the whole of) each file individually and if the iPod is still in shuffle mode, it will stop at the end of each episode. To play several, or all episodes without pause, simply turn off shuffle and navigate to the first episode. They will then play one after the other.
By the way, you cannot use the custom podcast feed method that you mentioned. It's simply another bodge.

  • How do I create a Podcast in Garageband?

I'm new to the Mac OS. I open Garageband and click "Create New Podcast." The podcast creator opens, I click record by male voice, say something, click record button again to stop recording, press play but hear nothing. What am I doing wrong? My mic is fine, I tested it in the sounds section of System Preferences.

Since you really didn't explain much about your
setup, this is only a guess.
You have to select "built-in Input" in GB's prefs.
    However, be warned:

Built-in microphone is selected, but still nothing.

  • How to create a group calendar?

    Hello,
i am sorry but this is one more question on wiki-group-calendars.
    *In short:*
I am not able to create a group calendar with the wiki frontend. the calendar that is created with a wiki is owned by the admin of the wiki. So it is always a personal calendar that cannot be shared in iCal.
    LONG:
I want to create a group calendar that is viewed and edited through iCal.app and the web service. Apple´s "wiki deployment" guide says on page 57:
+"The web calendar allows you to easily schedule events for yourself or your group. ...+
+There are *two types of web calendars: personal and group*. You can send and receive event invitations through the personal calendar but not through the group calendar. Also, *while anyone in a group can create or edit events in a group calendar*, you can edit only events in your own personal calendar or event invitations you send to other people.+
+The web calendar uses iCal Server to store events and invitations. ..."+
But there is not mentioned how to create a group calendar. The calendar created with the wiki web-frontend belongs to the admin of that particular wiki. This is why the calendar data ist stored in folder named with the UUID of the wiki admin. Also the alias "http://server.fqdn:8008/principals/groups/mygroupname/" which i provided in iCal turns into ..._uids_UUID-of-the-wiki-admin and only the wiki-admin can access this calendar in iCal.app.
My research on this topic reveals that there were in issue that should be resolved in 10.6.4 (that is running on our Server). So, again, how to create a group calendar?
    Thanks, Philipp.

You said "you need to go to the wiki page and add the wiki's there...." What is the "wiki page" you mention? Is that some place I go to via the browser or the Server Admin tool?
I went to http://ical.mysite.com/ical/ and logged in as the Directory Administrator but didn't see anything resembling what you described.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

  • How to create a playlist on iPod nano gen6?

in all manuals it says and shows go to playlist icon, but I don't have such icon. and in iTunes it only offers me genius mixes, can't find any way to create my own playlist. tried google etc, but no results

    Hi kawarik,
I found some information on how to create playlists on iPod nano (6th generation) here:
    iPod nano User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_nano_6thgen_User_Guide.pdf
The information starts on page 25:
    Creating and editing playlists
    Create a playlist:
1 On the Home screen, tap Music, and then tap Playlists.
2 Flick down, and then tap Add.
3 Tap a category (Songs, Albums, Podcasts, and so on), and then tap the items you want to add.
Don’t tap Done until you’ve added everything you want to include in the playlist.
4 Swipe left to continue adding content.
You can add content from any category. For example, you can mix podcasts with songs in a
    single playlist.
5 When you finish, tap Done.
The new playlist is named New Playlist 1 (or New Playlist 2, and so on). The next time you sync, you can change the title in iTunes. When you sync again, the playlist title on iPod nano is updated.
Since I am quoting this article out of context, I also located the section on multitouch gestures (page 11) to help with step 2 above:
    Flick
Flick your finger quickly up or down to scroll rapidly. You can wait for scrolling to stop,
or touch anywhere on the screen to stop it immediately. Touching the screen won’t choose
    or activate anything.
In some lists, such as Playlists, you can flick down to show editing controls at the top.
    Cheers!

  • How to re-import podcasts

I have about 400 podcasts in my iTunes library. They are all imported correctly -- that is, they show up as Podcasts, not as files in the Music Library.
Now, I need to re-format my iPod, and re-import everything. I have no problem importing my MP3 files; I just use Add Folder to Library and point to the top-level folder. Same with photos -- I can re-synch them with no problems.
But how do I re-import the podcast files that are on my system? I do not want to go back to the source podcasts; in fact, in many cases the original sources are no longer available. (Besides, I have over 500MB of podcast files, and don't want/need to re-download them.)
All of these files are in the \Podcast folder on my hard drive. But if I just use Add Folder to Library, they're going to import into my Music Library as music files, and not podcasts, correct?
How can I tell iTunes that I want to import these podcast files -- AS PODCASTS, just as they were before I re-formatted?? They all have extensions of .mp3 (not .m4b or anything like that). How can I import the files so that they re-create the podcast information (such as the date)?
Dell Inspiron 9400   Windows XP Pro

If they are in your iTunes library then you should be alright. After restoring the iPod, simply sync it to iTunes and everything will be copied over. This only works with auto sync iPod, that is the only way I have ever done it.
