How to create a second partition on the harddisk?

Hello To All Members!
I recently got some viruses on my laptop. So I had to use my recovery cd to recover my system.
Now the problem is that I asked me for the partition where are the files which are being extracted. I marked it to 30GB.
So, windows is working fine but my Rest of 50GB will not be shown.
I thought that the recovery cd will make a new second partition as well, but it did not. Now how to make some other partitions?
Second question related to first one is how much time i can use this recovery disk. I mean will the windows remain genuine?????
For the partition problem i dont know of some possible solutions cause i needed three partitions, 1st of 30GB(Windows Default) and other two of 25GB.
The Best Solution coming in my mind is to make any windows ME or 98 bootable cd and run fdisk to create the remaining partitions.
But it is makes some new questions in my mind. Do i have to use a recovery cd again? If yes than I will not use this process again cause it will ask for partition to extract files of windows and i will choose 30GB again.
And again it will remove additional partitions.
Please help me and clear the questions coming in my mind..

Hi there,
do know for the UlltimateBootCD4Win? This from CD bootable WinXP-BartPEedition with additional tools gives you the ability to make such things like partitioning, backup or formatting your HDD.
It has many more applications which help you to maintain your system without booting your original OS.
So I think that this CD will solve your partitioning issues.
Heres a link: www.ubcd4win.com/
Just try it and tell me your opinion.
Nice weekend and greetings from the sunny south ;)

    Hello.
i had to use the recovery disk, and i deleted by mistake my initial (two) partitions of the HDD. :(( now i have only one.
Can somebody tell me how can i fix that?
    I want 2 partitions not one. 10x

    Hello
If operating system is already preinstalled and configured you can now use third part software to split HDD and create second partition. The best tool for doing this is Partition Magic.
If you want to install OS again using delivered recovery DVD there you can find option for doing this. Start notebook and press C button. Keep it down for few seconds. This will force your notebook to use CD/DVD driver as first boot device. Simply follow the menu on the screen.

  • How to create a service partition like the original from lenovo

hey their, i have installed windows 7 on my x200. afore i have cleaned up all partiton incl. the service partition. now my question: how can i create a service partiton with the same behaviors like the original one (access the partition via the thinkvantage button and so on). i hope, someone can help me.

You need a set of recovery disks to re-create the partition.
If you haven't burned them when you first got the machine, they can be purchased directly from Lenovo or other online sources.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to create a FAT32 partition on the internal HDD?

I'd like to set up a partition that can be shared between OSX and Windows.
I tried using a GParted LiveCD, but then OSX won't recognize the partition. I haven't installed Windows yet, but I've read that formatting the partition from Windows will prevent OSX from recognizing it as well. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you are reformatting your internal drive, you will loose your OS X install and have to re-install. That being said, boot from your os x install disc and reformat the first partition as _free space_ for your Windows install then install OS X on the second partition formatted as HFS+. After the install and boot of the OS X install, restart with your Windows disc and install on free space. It will format the partition for you as NTFS or Fat32 if you choose. Mac's can read and write to both. Fat32 is native and NTFS requires MacFuse and the ntfs-3g plugin...both free.
After the install you will need to set up a boot option. I have used Super Grub Disc
    http://www.supergrubdisk.org/
and booted the partitions seperatly. There are other BootLoader programs that will allow you to choose which partition to boot from. A really nice one with a great GUI is Cameleon

  • Partitioning the HD with the second partition as the Users directory

Please help. Does anybody know how to do this, Boot drive is the first partition and the second partition is the Users directory. Please provide step by step instructions if possible. Thanks

yes you can, but I would advise against doing so.
The purpose is usually to use another disk drive to improve performance. Using a partition on the same drive just adds longer seeks from head movement instead.
you can use FW but if the drive is not available, does not power on or mount, you can run into problem of creating a default account and messing up the /Volumes directory.
In "Missing Manual" and elsewhere the easy way is to just open NetInfo Manager, click on Users tab, then your short-name. Authenticate and change the value for "home" from /Users/account-name to
    /Volumes/vol-name/Users/account-name
Save, update, restart the netinfo database, logout and log back in.
You are better off usually with two drives on separate buses, not on the same bus but different channels to improve I/O and to keep the boot drive free of media files etc to help performance and maintenance.
You can also change /Users to another volume and use a symbolic link in its place. Changing Home Directory

  • How to put a recovery partition on the hard drive

How can I create a recovery partition on the hard drive of my laptop. I had to reinstall the whole system, and tried to use the HP recovery software they sent me but it quit when it was about three quarters the way finished. I had to use a copy of windows 8 to put the system back on my laptop. After I got it all straighten out, I updated it to windows 8.1 and it seems like the computer runs a lot faster with windows 8.1 on it. Now I need to find away to install a recovery partition on my hard drive.
    Thank You

A Recover partition is something the factory places on the computer. It is an image of the factory installation and the software required to restore the computer to a factory like state using that image. You will not be able to create a Recovery partition on your computer unless you use the HP Recovery Discs to return the computer to a factory like state. Please note the HP Recovery Discs and the resulting HP Recovery partition will only contain an image of Windows 8 that cannot be updated to reflect the installation of Window 8.1.
My suggestion is to use the Windows "System Image Backup" utility to create an exact image of the Windows 8.1 partition as it currently is. If your computer developes an issue or you need to replace the hard drive, all you have to do is "restore" the image to the computer. You will need to use an external USB hard drive or other media to store the image. Please see Windows 8.1 Tip: Use System Image Backup for instructions on creating and storing a "Windows - System Image Backup."

With 10g, you need to do that yourself. I prefer to create a "buffer" of future partitions - in case the job whose task it is to add new partitions gets held up or stuck. Or the job queue is full due to some problem and it does not get the chance to execute in time.
I dislike your partitioning criteria. I prefer using the date directly and not mangling it to something else. If a specific day has a large volume of data, then another option is to use hourly date ranged partitions. With local partitioned indexes and the date time range used for querying, this can be quite effective performance wise.
As for partitioning maintenance - I use a custom written partitionManager PL/SQL package that provides an interface for adding daily and hourly partitions to a table. Input parameters are for example name of the table, start date and the number of partitions to add. Similarly it provides interfaces for aging partitions - again by specifying a table and a date-time to use as the starting point, back into time, for removing old partitions.
I typically call this code from the actual application code itself - so before a new partition will be used for example, the app code will first ensure that it has a partition to use. This is safer than a separate job as the dependency is resolved where and when it is needed - and not done as a separate task.
For example - you should have a procedure/package that provides an app the means to log a message into your MESSAGE table. As part of an autonomous transaction, this procedure can check if the required partition exists, before attempting to insert a message into the table.
Where this approach is not possible, a DBMS_JOB can be used to create future partitions - but as I mentioned, rather have it add a bunch of future (empty) partitions in case something goes pear shape with the job mechanism.

I'm not an expert, but I partitioned the C: drive and made a partition for Windows 8. It worked perfectly as a multi-boot setup.
A word of caution...Make sure that you want to make it a permanent change. When I removed the Win 8 partition and tried to restore my system to factory settings, I could not get the F2 during restart to work. F2 now brings up the multi-boot screen. So I tried to restore using the DVD Restore Set I made before I did anything to the partitions. I was able to boot to the DVD Restore Set by using the F12 key during restart and selecting the BDDVD drive. It looked like it was going to work, but after it loaded the minmum Windows files and I clicked on Restore, I got an error stating that the partition had changed and I could not restore.
I contacted tech support and they are sending me a disc to restore the system.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd like to use the SSD for installing Windows 8. It seems to have about 25GB free. Isn't that a better place to install the OS? I am not sure why the bigger drive is marked as C: and the small, faster one as D: :-(

  • How to create a record based on the name of a file in the file-system?

    Hi,
With a lot of pictures I want to have a database to gather some information about these pictures.
First question is how to generate a record based on a file in the file system?
    e.g. the pictures are "c:\fotos\2009\01\disc_001.jpg" to "c:\foto\2009\01\dis_98.jpg" .
now i want to create records with as one of the attributes the name of the picture (not the picture itself). how to create these records (based on the information of the file-ssytem). i.e. the number of records should be the same as the number of pictures.
    any suggestions?
    any reaction will be appreciated.

    zoominnana wrote:

No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

  • How to create multi garnishment order for the same garnishment document

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to create multi garnishment order for the same garnishment document. I tried to copy the entry in IT0195 but the sequence field is grayed out so it will just delete the old record. What configuration should I do to make this possible?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    hi,
As far as I got it.
You cannot have multiple Garnishment order but if a need arises you have to maintain it in IT216.
For that follow this path goto PA30->pernr->194->change->Garnishment->adjustment.
Since like order you cannot maintain adjustment also directly.

  • How to create a generalized version of the detailed polygons?

How to create a generalized version of the detailed polygons?
I have a table of detailed polygons (100+ vertices) and I want to get generalized version of these polygons.
For example, assume I have a polygon with 100 vertices. Distance between vertex n and n+1 is 1.0.
I want to get geometry (generalized polygon, line or point) where distance between vertex n and n+1 is 10.0 or more (I want vertices to be considered as one vertex if distance between them is less then 10.0).
Is it possible to create generalized version of polygons on the fly?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Scenario A:
If all of your polygons have no interaction among them (No polygon shares any boundary with any other ones).
In this case you can use the sdo_util.simplify in 10g to reduce the vertices in your polygons which returns new polygon geometries on the fly.
If you found that simplify is not doing exactly what you want, you can always roll out your own implementation using PL/SQL or the new SDOAPI JGeoemtry class in Java. Both will give you complete access to the coordinate arrays in a polygon and update them back to the database after you have simplified them in your code.
    Scenario B:
If your polygons share boundaries, then the above methods will not work since the simplification process may not preserve the topology among your polygons. What you can do then is to use the Java topo package to create a new topology by adding all of your polygons to to an empty topology (which you first create in the database and then load into memory using oracle.spatial.topo.TopoMap). Once you have a topology built in the memory, you can use methods such as oracle.spatial.topo.TopoMap.changeEdgeCoords() to simplify the edges of your polygons. You can then recreate the simplified polygons from the topology. This is just a rough guide; for more details you need to check out the java doc for the various packages mentioned above which are shipped with 10g spatial.

  • How to create a temp table in the memory, not in disk?

in sql server, you can create a temp table in the memory instead of disk,
then you can do the insert, delete, update and select on it.
    after finishing, just release it.
    in Oracle,
I am wonderfing how to create a temp table in the memory, not in disk?
    thanks,

    Thanks for rectifying me Howard.
I just read your full article on this too and its very well explained here:
    http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/357
    Few lines from your article
It is true, of course, that since Version 8.0 Oracle has provided the ability to create a Keep Pool in the Buffer Cache, which certainly sounds like it can do the job... especially since that word 'keep' is used again. But a keep pool is merely a segregated part of the buffer cache, into which you direct blocks from particular tables (by creating them, or altering them, with the BUFFER POOL KEEP clause). So you can tuck the blocks from such tables out of the way, into their own part of the buffer cache... but that is not the same thing as guaranteeing they'll stay there. If you over-populate the Keep Pool, then its LRU mechanism will kick in and age its contents out just as efficiently as an unsegregated buffer cache would.
Functionally, therefore, there can be no guarantees. The best you can do is create a sufficiently large Keep Pool, and then choose the tables that will use it with care such that they don’t swamp themselves, and start causing each other to age out back to disk.
    Thanks and Regards
