How to create a slideshow on a DVD

I have a slideshow of pictures I created in iPhoto. I want to burn that to a DVD to play at a birthday party.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as well as which version of iPhoto you're using.

  • Can't figure out how to create a Slideshow

I've read the online Help instructions. Read the Apple Support instructions and I just don't understand them. I'm new to iDVD and that's probably the problem. Can anyone send me detailed instructions on how to create a slideshow using my photos in iPhoto?

Why the limit of only 99 photos in a slide show?
Well the answer here deals more with Video DVD specifications than iDVD. The way iDVD builds slideshows each slide is more like a separate chapter, since these can have navigation buttons.
And here are some details of DVD authoring from http://www.dahnielson.com/dvdprimer.html
A DVD comprises of one or more video title sets, abrevated VTS, that contain the video and audio information as data streams. Each disc can have up to 99 VTSes, and each title set can be subdivided into 99 chapters.
So it is the way iDVD build the slideshows in "chapter-like" manner that limits you to 99 slides......going from iPhoto using Quicktime export or "Send to iDVD" quicktime avoids this limit. But you can use the iPhoto "Send to IDVD" with slideshows without the 99 limit....so you can put them on DVDs....

  • How to create Manual Slideshow Button

Hi, I'm trying to have a manual slideshow
controlled by a single simple arrow button
to either advance or go back
I've already converted my slideshow to track
and on the first track/chapter marker I've selected
    Button Highlight Marker
How do I now create a button that lets the user
    browse all 60 slides manually?
    thanks

Sorry this reply isn't about creating mannual slideshow button, but it might help solving what you want. You said you want to "lets the user
    browse all 60 slides manually".
What I did with my slideshow:
    1. Drag all the photos in the slideshow
    2. Check all the boxes "PAUSE" (this way the photo will stay still until the user press "next" of "previous" button in the the remote/ dvd player controller button)
    3. Duplicate the last photo (by dragging from the DVDSP browser)and put it after it's clone.
    4. DON'T check the box "Pause" for this duplicate
    5. Set the duration for this duplicate to 15 frames (00:00:00:15)
Set the slideshow to "jump to xxx menu" when finish.
Now, what happen is, when the slideshow starts, the user will see the first slide freeze, and they will manually go back or forth from the player control (not the button on the dvd menu). When it come to the last slideshow, and they hit "next" it will transist to it's clone (that you duplicated), this clone is set to automatically transist after 15 frames and jump to XXX.
To make the users more aware of the "possibility of going back and forth", or simply to tell the user what the next/ previous slide is, you can create dummy "button" (I just do it with arrow symbol or text "Next" and "Previous") in the appropriate position on the slide. This "button" is only to tell the user there is a next and previous, it doesn't interact. But what it does is making the user press "next" and "back" in the controller.
    I hope this help.

  • Need to learn how to create a slideshow in Flash

    Hello All,
I'm new to Flash and I need to learn how to do a slideshow with exactly the same features as can be found in this link:
    http://www.esppromo.com/index.asp
Just like at the link above, it needs to play through the slides automatically once the page is loaded, each slide needs to link to a specific URL, and I need controls similar to the boxes at the bottom so the viewer can click on any specific slide they wish to view (I'd like to have numbers in the boxes though). The transitions don't have to slide across like this. If a fade is easier, that would be fine.
Since I've looked online, but can't find any tutorials for doing this in Flash Professional, I think I'll pick up a book on Flash. There are some online tutorials that are close but nothing that is exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a particular book that covers creating this type of slide show with the links and controls exactly as I need it to be. I see these types of slide shows on a lot of sites now, so I'm hoping that maybe someone else on this forum has had to learn how to do this and can recommend a book they used?
I was looking at Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Classroom in a Book and it looked like it may be what I'm after, but I am rather cautious, as I don't want to end up with instructions that are close to what I am looking for, but not quite right.
Actually, I thought I'd be able to do this fairly easily with Flash Catalyst, so I updated to Adobe CS5 Design Premium. I found that Flash Catalyst can be used to create a slide show like this, but unfortunately it won't play automatically when the page loads and the viewer has to manually click through the slides, which is not what I need. I could be wrong, but from what I've read, I need Flash Builder to add code so the slide show will play automatically if I create it in Flash Catalyst. Since it's not an option for me to buy more software at this time, I've decided to learn how to do this in Flash Professional.
I really want to learn how to do this. I expect to go on and create more using Flash, but for now I just REALLY need to figure this slide show out.
If anyone can help out, I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    William

    Edit:
i'm sorry. it is a huge work to type this and will be confusing as hell. i'm already up to 1 full word page of explanation. Though i am able to do it, explaning it in full lengh is ... well.. very hard. Way harder than it is to make your flash itself.
I can however point you to some element you should read about how to make them:
    - How to use timeline in flash cs4
    - how to create a button in flash cs4
    - How to make "CLASSIC TWEEN" in flash cs4
    - How to use ActionScript 2 ( AS2) basic command like : GetUrl, Gotoandplay, Stop and how to put those script in the right location. ( AS2 allow you to put script directly on the button itself. however it is best to put it in the Action Layer that you will have to build in the timeline.
    - How to import thing in library.
keep in mind that what you want to make is mostly a Logic probleme...
    - Image 1 click = GetURL X,
    - After Y time, Switch image 1 to image 2 with animation. Do the same for the button.
    - If you click on button 1 while being on image 3, you have to set all the reverse animation in the timeline, and use a lot of Gotoandplay.
Hope this help you a little.
I'm sorry. i really wanted to help you do it, but it is just a monstruous job to write all this.

  • How to get best slideshow images on DVD?

I just created a DVD using several slideshows from iPhoto. I exported these slideshows from iPhoto as "large" QT movies. These files look pretty good in iPhoto and as QT movies, but once the DVD was burned, I noticed that the compression on these movies was of a far inferior quality (as it was more compressed, I assume) to the original exported QT movie.
Since DVDs can hold far greater than the size of these .mov files, I am unclear why iDVD has to compress them so much. Is there a way to transfer these slideshows to a DVD without having some much compression? Is there a setting within iDVD? Or would it be better to import the photos and then set up the slideshow in iDVD rather than iPhoto? Or is this overall a limitation of iDVD, that is, would these .mov files look bettter if using DVD Studio Pro?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

    Madcow,
You'll get lots of opinions on this subject!
I think if you use the "Send to iDVD" command from within iPhoto, you get good results transferring to iDVD. People have had problems with audio, but it's a very easy and usually reliable route.
iDVD has to change the compression to MPEG2, because that's what the DVD standard requires. The resolution goes down and the file size goes up because MPEG2 is not a very effective compression scheme for stills, it was meant for full motion video. The best you can do within iDVD is to choose "best quality" in the iDVD prefs. Remember that standard video resolution is 720X480 for all DVDs, far lower than the resolution of that sideshow as "large" or when you view it on your mac from within iPhoto.
    Your other options:
Build the slideshow within iDVD - probably the most reliable option.
Build the slideshow in iMovie or other apps like PhotoToMovie (my personal favorite).
Resolution on all of these options should be the same when everything works right. Be sure to use the iDVD "constrain" tool within iPhoto to size your files correctly for iDVD......

  • How to create a SlideShow in GoLiveCS2 using Actions

    Good day to all,
I was wondering if anyone has an idea how to make a photo slideshow in GoLive CS2 using the Actions? I have no experience in JavaScript, Actionscript and am not a programmer. Any information would be highly appreciated.
I know how to create remote rollovers using Actions but not Slideshows.
    Please advise

I suggest hopping over to this address:

  • Creating 2 slideshows - burn to dvd

Hey everyone. I am new to using Encore and have a question in regards to creating slideshows. I have created 2 seperate slideshows, each with images and music and I would like to know how I can put them together to burn on a dvd. I would need the first slideshow to play all the way through, and then the second one to play right after the first. Ideally, I would like to have them keep looping over and over again as the dvd will be continuiosly played in the background during a party.
Is this something that is easy to do in Encore? I am currently using Encore CS5.1.
    Thank you in advance!

Stan's reply assumes that you have your two slideshows in the same project at the moment - I am not clear from your post whether this is the case.  If they are in separate projects, you will need to re-build your project with both slideshows in the one project.

  • How to create a photo preview album DVD in DVDStudio Pro ?

    Hi,
How can i create a DVD still image ( Photo ) preview with DVDStudio Pro ? The preview should allow the viewer to go back and forth between images in addition to pause and go back to index gallery with the remote control. The final result should be something like a Flash or HTML web image gallery created by LightRoom ( sorry for the F word in APPLE space ). It will be used by elderly users that are not computer saavy but need to proof / preview still photography sessions.
If DVDStudio Pro is not the tool for this, could you recommand a Mac application for this.

iPhoto doesn't run on the iPad. Other than that you'd need to ask your question on the iPad forum.

  • Does anyone know how to export a slideshow to a dvd?

I am trying to burn a slideshow in iphoto to a dvd and cannot get it to work...if anyone has any advice I would love to hear it please! Thanks!

Also, do you have iDVD?  I think most versions of iPhoto should link directly to iDVD?
You could use Audacity (a free multi track audio editor) to create a custom soundtrack.

  • How-To create a customized Solaris 10 DVD for Sparc with GRUB

I am currently using Solaris 10 U6 x86 custom jumpstart from DVD. This boot mechanism has always been Grub. I know that Solaris 10 U8 Sparc boot mechanism has been changed to Grub as well. I have referenced an excellent Blueprint on creating customized jumpstart DVD for x86. I am looking for some documentation or Blueprint which describe the similar process for Sparc. I am hoping the mkisofs command options will be the most significant difference between x86 and Sprarc.
Is there a document which describes the de-composition of the DVD for Sparc based platforms? And the re-assembly of the custom DVD?
    Thanks very much.

Not possible... to have HD output you need one of the "announced but not shipped" players, since the DVD specification does not provide for HD content that will play out to your HD Television... you simply can't stuff HD content on a DVD and have it play from the DVD to a TV
