How to create a table of contents (TOC) linking to specific pages of different (multiple) PDFs

Hi All,
I would like to create clickable Table of Contents (TOC) that can lead to a sub clickable TOC that would lead to a specific page of different PDFs within a folder.
Is that possible?
Secondly, is is possible to create a search box that upon typing a specific word (not related to text within the PDFs), that word to be linked to a specific page of a particular PDF out of many within a folder?
To make it more clear, I have a database of specifications of equipment and drawings of a building, all in multiple PDF files. I would like to be able to unify all those PDFs and if I type the room number of the building to be presented with a menu of choces pointing to services assosiated with that room, being elctrical power drawings, lighting drawings or drawings of Air Conditioning and Ducting associated with that room. So I type a room number, then I get a menu of Power, Lights, Fire Alarm, or Ducting all associated with that room, then if I click Fire Alarm to be directed straight to the drawing within a PDF related to that room.
Thanks

I would say: Try and Error. Create a copy of your document and unmark in the copied document in the document inspector all boxes for the TOC. Then mark them again. Maybe you should also delete the paragraph styles and mark them again. If that doesn't work, try to copy the complete text of your document to a new created one. Maybe that works.
Good luck!
P.S.: If that doesn't work look here. Maybe this helps.

    Hi Gnanasekarn,
You can create TOC in webi using Open Document, You can create link on the TOC and you can connect that link to open new report .
With the help of open document you can open the specific portion of report.
So you can achive your requirement using URL reporting or Open Document.

    Hello
I am using pages on my iPad Air, and figuring out how to create a table of content? (TOC)
    Anyone can help me please?

Based on what I have found, at this time, it appears that the only way to add a TOC or Bibliography to a Pages file is via Pages for MAC. Once that is done, you can automatically add entries in Pages for iOS. But you cannot initially add the element.
It is not out of the question that there are some templates for Pages for iOS available that already have these added and available - but I cannot say first hand. All of the built in templates for iOS appear to be for short format documents and I have yet to find one that includes the TOC or Bibliography.

  • Acrobat XI PRO: Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically in top, after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file

    Hey
I have now tried for hours, but now I give up!
    MY WISH -
Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file.
I have already bookmarks, shown on the screen (see screenshot below) but I want those bookmark to be visualised in a separate TOC in the top of the combined files.
This new TOC (which I have inserted) shall be printable and serve as a cover page in a binder.
I have seen other cheap pdf.programs in the market (e.g. PDF Converter Professional 7.3) which are able to make the above things, easy, fast and nice.

  • How to create labeled table of Content with expand and collapse

    Hi All,
Can somebody help me how to create labeled table of Content with expand and collapse as example given below:
    User1
    Template1
    Template2
    User2
    +
    User3
    Template1
    Template2
Like when we see expand (+) and collapse (-) button when we click on 'about this page' link.
    Thanks
    Bhupendra

    Hi,
Tou can use Table inside table to show the details this way but I'm not sure about Expand/Collapse.
    Expand/Collapse are part of HGRID.
I think we can develop this functionality with little manipulation.

  • How to Create a Table of Contents From an Imported PDF File?

I have imported a 150 page PDF file into inDesign 5. I want to create a Table of Contents for my document, but there are no paragraph or heading styles in the document. If I built the document in inDesign, I would have labeled each chapter "Heading 1" and then instructed inDesign to collect up all the Heading 1s and make a TOC automatically.
But I didn't create this PDF, it has no formatting at all. Its just been placed in the inDesign document space.
Anyone have any tips of how I can pick out all the Chapter headings.....they are in a distinctive format (14 point bold) from the rest of the document text.
    Anyone?

InDesign cannot read *anything* out of a PDF file.
Open in Acrobat, copy heading, paste in InDesign. Repeat until done.

  • How to create a Table of Contents using Pages 09?

    Hi guys,
I have little problems creating a Table of Contents in Pages, though it seems quite simple. I'm working with the template 'Term Paper' and I use paragraph styles (Title, Heading I, II, etc.). I have some very long documents (about 80 pages long) so I wanted to create a TOC (using sections) but it says:
The table of contents is empty because none of the paragraph styles selected in the Document Inspector are used in the document.
When I compare the paragraph styles I do use and the paragraph styles in the Document Inspector, they match. So I'm a bit upset about this because I really need to use this great feature!
    Thanks for you answers guys!

  • How to create a table of contents in a PDF

I was wondering if anyone knew how to use preview in order to create a table of contents. This would make it easier for me to find my way around my PDF files.
    Thanks

Preview cannot do this - it is not a PDF editing utility. If you have the original document in an editable format (eg a Pages, or Word document) then you can edit it, print it, and from the print dialogue, save as a PDF. Otherwise you'll need the full Adobe product or similar to acheive what you want.

  • How do create a table of contents page from a series of bookmarks?

I am compiling bundles of documents for printing, starting from single PDFs. I combine them using Acrobat Pro X for Mac which gives me a single PDF, with a series of bookmarks for each document. I then insert page numbers.
What I need is a way of creating a table of contents for printing (as opposed to a "digial T.O.C" - ie the bookmarks list). Ideally, I would need a script that would copy the list of bookmarks and the page numbers for each and dump them to a new page in the PDF bundle (or a text file).
That way I can print the PDF with a Table of Contents at the front.
There was an entry on the Acobrat for Legal Professionals blog a while back (http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2009/12/list_bookmarks_with_a_free_scrip/) - as far as I can tell that hint only works for Acrobat 9.
    Any help gratefully received

Rick Borstein created an Action in Acrobat X Pro., that allows you to create a Bookmark Report. You might see if that does the trick.

  • Creating a Table of Content (toc)

    Hi
I am very new with Output designer, so please dont mind if it is a silly question.
I have to create a PDF report which has around 15-20 sections. I need a toc (table of content) at first page and at the specified position with page number for each section.
All the sections has some header and detail subforms, so pagenumber is not known at the begining for each sections. I am using xml file as the data file.
So can i use JFPREAMBLE to get the page number for different subforms, and write that on to the toc subform,
i did lot of mind storming but not able to resolve my problem, please help.
    thanks and regards

    Hello,
I was able to create a TOC for a recent customer in the UK.
Took a lot of work, but it worked.
You will have to create a TDF to get the data that you require to be on the TOC, but this is quite easy. The best way is to get the TDF to output the result as a seperate file, and then get the orginal data to call the file as the first thing that you do by using the ^file command
If you would like an example please drop me a line at [email protected]

  • How to create a table report with alphabetic link at the top

    Hello,
I have a db table of users, and have created a report based on this table, however I want to have each aphabet letter at the top of the report so that users can click on the letter and see all records where the username field starts with that letter.
    How can I achieve this?
    Thanks,

Hello user11243298 (please tell us your name),
Your report query would look something like this (assuming page number is 1):
    select some_column1, some_column2
    from your_user_table
    where username like :P1_INITIAL || '%'
For the letters at the top of the report, here's a couple options:
    - If you want all letters to appear whether or not there are any rows, you can create a series of buttons or links, one for each letter, and specify the target URL to submit back to the report page, setting the item P1_INITIAL to each letter.
    - If you want only letters that have rows, one way is to create a dynamic LOV based on a query like this:
    select distinct upper(substr(username, 1, 1)) d, distinct upper(substr(username, 1, 1)) v
    from your_user_table
    order by upper(substr(username, 1, 1))
Then use that for a select list with submit, again targeting the report page and setting P1_INITIAL to the selected value.
Hope this helps (if it does, please reward it),
    John

  • How do I create a Table of Contents in InDesign CS6 for print that easily converts to epub?

How do I create a Table of Contents in InDesign CS6 for a print book that easily converts to epub?
Can anyone point me to a link for a step-by-step (not a video) on setting up all the elements of a print book properly (pages, table of contents and index) so they will convert and reflow perfectly from print to epub in InDesign CS6. This is not about building an ebook from ground up, but taking 50 backlisted print books (converted from old versions of Quark to InDesign) that now need to be converted to epub formats.
OR could someone point me to the link in the Adobe InDesign CS6 support that explains how to create a Table of Contents for a print book (5.5" x 8.5", 288 pages), one that will convert when the file is converted to ePub (for MAC OSX)?
Just downloaded the 706 page inDesign CS6 reference manual from Adobe <http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf>  but there's not even a search feature on the pdf file.
Up until this week, we have only done print books, creating the TOC the old fashioned way, as a fixed page, comprised of two columns: page numbers and chapters/subject. The files I have created are taken by our printer and printed beautifully.
However, when I convert the same book to epub in CS6, the character and paragraph styles converted beautifully - but everything else is all over the place! The table of contents is on different pages, the columns split apart. That goes for the page contents as well - everything is all over the place. when it's converted to a pdf -- total perfection. Never any problems converting with perfection to pdf format and reading those on the various readers.
(Thank you so much in advance for any help).

<http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf> Adobe Digital Reader does have a search feature for reading pdfs. Found the TOC instructions on page 176 of 706 pages.

  • Table of Contents Broken Links

I am using Framemaker 7.1 and have created a Table of Contents for a book. When I open the PDF created for this book the links in the TOC go to the corresponding pages for the first few chapters but nothing after those works. In Framemaker when I use ALT+CTRL to try to test the link I get an error saying that it cannot find the files for the links that do not work. Does anyone know what causes this error? The files are in the folder and at the location it is looking for them. This has me stumped.

    blitza4life,
You didn't mention whether any conditional text may exist in the document. However, I have seen this happen when conditional text was used in a book and pages got edited with the conditional text hidden. If this is the culprit, the cause would be a bit of text or end-of-paragraph marker adjacent to a heading that has a condition tag applied that is set to hide at when the book is generated. If you want to rule this out, here's how:
Open all files in the book.
Set all conditions to show with indicators.
    Update the book.
    Save all files.
Save all files as MIF. (yes, in addition to...)
Close the book and all its files.
Open the book.mif file, save as .book;  and then open all the MIF files associated, then save those back to FM.
Check the TOC links to see if they work. If they do, when you land on the linked text you'll be able to see and either remove the condition tags or delete the tagged text. Then, update the book again and the TOC should be accurate.
Another potential root cause of this problem could be text insets, but that's more complicated and less frequently the issue. Please update this string when you find a solution.
    Thanks
