How to create a translucent rainbow in Illustrator (CS6)?

Hi. I have a simple line illustration of a landscape, and would like to add a translucent rainbow, where the background colours of the landscape are softly visible through the rainbow's colours, as in nature or a photo. Would anyone know how to do this please? Thank you.
(Currently the rainbow is drawn over the background as one illustration).

Reduce the opacity of that object to see through it. Add a blur to soften it if necessary.

As Doug said, this entirely depends on your printer and its driver, not on any specific setting in AI. Naturally it helps to work to spec and use a suitable artboard size, but beyond that you can't influence this much in AI.

There wasn't an option to preset the radius of corners for the gift card. The gift card appears square in the document like a business card. Double click on the layer in an area of that layer which is not occupied by info to the right of name.
this dialog appears check Template if it is not already selected and that automatically makesi non printing but you can not work on that layer.
You can also uncheck printing the layer will not print but you cans ill work on it.
Hrre is the rounded rectangle tool.
select the rounded rectangle tool and double click on the document (artbaord ) to bring up the dialog and enter te dimensions of the card and the radius corners.
Now you us ehe align panel or the align icons in the control panel to align the rounded rectangle to your artboard using he option to align to artboard.
Now the video shoul have filled your screen unless ou are using a low resolution for your monitor.
Bu more important you should read help files about creating documents using the various tools and the various panels and either take a course in using Illustrator or read some books on the subject.
The Real World Illustrator book by Mordy Goldin is a good one.
But it is going to very frustrating if you have noi working knowledge of the application.

Create a funnel shape in Illustrator CS6?

Hello I am trying to create a funnel shape in Illustrator that is divided up by levels. For example a funnel shape with six different levels. I have uploaded an example, when I have tried to use an image trace to get the basic shape the lines aren't sharp they are often bumpy and not straight. Anyone have tips or a how to create a sharp funnel image? Thanks a lot!

This was all done with filled shapes. If you want the inside to be all the same colour it would probably entail using stroked shapes.

Hi Larry, yea I looked into the capability of the PNG file format and realize that this was going to be an issue.
I was really hoping that someone knew a workaround using slices or exporting the file a certain way. Yet another issue Adobe should address considering the trend towards online media.

How do I restore default preferences with Illustrator CS6 in Mac with Mavericks (10.9.2)?

In Library/Preferences I don't have the Adobe Illustrator Settings.
I tried the Find command to search for Illustrator Prefs, but can't see it.
If I were to find it, the Illustrator CS6 Classroom in a Book tells me to copy the file and save it to another folder in the hard disk? This I don't understand.

When you mean start up is opening Illustrator, right?
Right.
The quick and easy way to restore default preferences is the Cmd+Option+Shift.
If you have customized your preference settings and wish to be able to get them back, you can use the Move the folder way which will save them so you can move them back and thereby regain your customized settings.
For your present use, Cmd+Option+Shift is the obvious choice.

How to create a eps file from illustrator?

I am new to illustrator and new to creating logos for print, I usually only do it for the web. I am creating a logo for my team so that it can be printed onto a jacket. I created an all white logo because the jacket is black. I was asked to send an eps file. I created the logo in illustrator and saved it as an eps file and as a pdf file thinking the printer could use the pdf for viewing. When I open the pdf file, the only thing that's there is a soccer ball, my text and a few other things are missing. When I open the saved eps file, the same thing, I have to go to select all to see all my other stuff in the eps file. How do I save my file as eps and know that it's attaching everything I have within the illustrator file and how can I view the logo as a pdf? Any help you can give would be greatly appeciated, thanks so much!

How did you similate the black color?
Since Illustrator does not have a background, you must create one with the rectangle tool, drag out a rectangle the size of the document and then move it to the back. That rectangle can then be filled with black.
Also look in your layers panel and see what you have for objects. You can select them there and move them up or down to bring them forward or backward on the document. It can also make it easier to select when the object is below others.

A bunch of lines bursting out of the middle, and getting thicker as they move away from the center, to which a gradient is often added. As mentioned Illustrator does not have a style of bulletted list. Thanks to some great typographical control you can create this using firs line indent (I set mine to -4.5 pt for this typeface & point size). This will give you hanging bullets, though if you change your type, that -4.5 would have to change.

One thing to note before you can add a stroke to the circles after the compound path has been released you will have to once again go to object>expand, I do not know why but it is necessary.
Some screen shots to help you along.
Also you actually need to make it seven concentric dividers not eight.
In this screen shot one of the stroke circles is selected so you can see in the stroke panel the center option for the alignment is active that is the one ou need of course.
Also I am sorry I forgot to spell check in my original posting. So you will probably have to use your imagination…quite a lot.

When I open my old tiled illustrator file in CC, it asks if I want to open a legacy art board. I do this.
This then displays on screen correctly as the individually paged tiles.
This is all fine. However when I then want to save as PDF there is no option to save this PDF as a multipage document.
The saved PDF file just comes out as one long single drawing board page and isn’t split into individual pages when read back in by Acrobat

How to create this warp effect in illustrator

Hi guys!
I have a vector that I would like to add a line of text to in another language...
At the top of the image attached with have the word "News" which is in the Rockwell font. I would like to create the same warp and change the word news to news in Swedish.
I haven't a problem with the font or creating outlines etc...just getting the exact bend shown here...
I am not sure what tools would have been used?

I have noticed that the Type is also sheared.
The silliest way I can come up with right away, which will allow you to use live Type so you can freely change language, is as follows, using the image as a locked background:
1) Redraw the top and bottom (curved) lines of the heading area and create a one step blend between them and expand the blend so you get a central (curved) line;
2) Write NEWS (or the Swedish equivalent) with the right size, then Object>Transform>Shear with a suitable value (10% or whatever);
3) Create a rectangle with the same length as the central line and a height that exceeds the height of the Type, then position it so the Type is suitably placed (a bit above the middle, as desired left or right);
4) Group path and Type and Object>Transform>Rotate by -90 degrees;
5) Effect>Warp>Arch using a suitable value (6% or whatever);
6) Brushes>New Brush, as an Art Brush, ticking proportional and keeping the downward direction (keep the Group);
7) Apply the Brush to the central line.
For a change of word/language, you can tick the Group and turn it into a new Art Brush after 5) and then repeat just 6) and 7).
You could also prepare the text as in 1) - 5), making the rectangle height correspond to the heading area (the distance between top and bottom lines, then Object>Expand Appearance and rotate by 90 degrees, then join the two lines into a closed path on top in the stacking order, select both and Object>EnvelopeDistort>Make with Top Object. Well, that may be even sillier.

How to create diagonal variable line pattern in CS6?

Hi guys
I'm on the brink of insanity with creating my diagonal line pattern. I've tried everything I can think of but the pattern is an absolute mess! I want to create a diagonal line pattern but I want the lines not to be uniform. Basically I've made a group of 3 lines and then one separate line on its own, then to repeat this as the picture below. I've used the distribute function so the distances between the lines is identical everywhere. I've then rotated the whole thing exactly 45 degrees and aligned the lines to fit the bounding box in the "make pattern" mode as shown. Yet the resulting pattern is just a mess of overlap ugliness. All I want is for the pattern to literally look as it does in the image on the left, can someone please tell me how to sucessfully do this in CS6?? Would be eternally grateful!!

Never create a line pattern at an angle. It's unnecessary.
Create the pattern at 90° angles then use Object > Transform > Rotate and tick the "Transform Patterns" option and enter the angle you are after....
Trying to get angled lines to match in a pattern can take considerable effort. Where as with this method you can create the pattern and rotate it in a matter of minutes. Let Illustrator work for you rather than against you. And, you can rotate to any angle so the pattern will function in multiple ways.
