How to create an ftp site?

Hello,
I am a novice website developer and I am learning the basics of Dreamweaver. I needed advice how I can go about a certain task: I have an excel file referencing several pdf's that I have pertaining to my business. There are dozens of pdfs. I was going to post my excel sheet, and also provide a link to an FTP site where visitors can view the files and read/download them as they wish. With Dreamweaver, how can I create an FTP site that can accomplish this? Or is there a spry element I can use to give visitors access to my pdf's? Thanks for any advice.

Anytime you want to post something on the internet, you will have to have someplace to host them, whether it is a ftp, http site or another place to host your files. You don't need an ftp site to accomplish what you are trying to do. A simple webpage with links to the pdf will do exactly that.
If you are wanting just some place to host your pdf files, then you should google or bing it as search terms.

How can I create an ftp site when using Airport Express?

I am very new to computers and have never used a Mac before. I'd like to create an FTP connection with a friend in another city to get large files transfered. I've followed the instructions in the Sharing pane but my friend still isn't able to get through. I'm assuming it's because there is a firewall in the Airport express and I need to create a port to get the files through. Can anyone help with this? I seem to be having trouble creating an address that works. I also seem to have a non-static IP address since it changes each time I check it.

How does one manually create an in-site search engine (without using Google's site search engine or the like)? Is it very difficult and time consuming?

If your site is dynamically populated with content from server-side databases, it's not hard.
If your site is static, a 3rd party search function might be a better choice until you're ready to build a dynamic site.

How to publish to FTP site NOT mobile me???

how do i publish the site to an FTP site that is hosting for me? i don't have mobile me and dont want it if i don't have to. please help. thanks!

As you have posted this in the iWeb 08 forum I am assuming that you are using iWeb 08 which does not have a built in ftp to server option.
In iWeb 08 you need to select the publish to a folder option and your site will be published to your Home Sites folder - there will be an index file, plus the Site folder of the same name that you named your site in iWeb.
Next you need to download Cyberduck free from the internet - this is a dedicated ftp program that you use to upload your files to your server. Open Cyberduck and enter your host, username and password details to connect with your host and then upload both your Site folder and your index.html file to your server. Your Site folder needs to be placed in the public_html folder on your server or whichever folder your server requires you to upload to. The index file needs to sit outside this folder to point into it.

When you create a varation of source site, It will just create a normal replica of site with custom master applied to it.
If the Changes are done on Master page it will automatically apply to destination site. Once normal site is create. you need to publish the Document library so it replicated to destination. Also use Relative URL in Javascript and CSS where ever required.

How to create a forum site

Hi everybody,
let me explain my problem: I need to create a forum site similar to this one (i.e. Java forum).
Users should have to login/logout, watch topics, post topics, and so on.
My idea was to use Linux+Apache+Tomcat+PostgreSQL but I need to start from scratch in writing all JSP code.
So my questions:
1) Do you thing the above technologies are enough or do I need something more complex (for example JBoss) but with many parts already provided?
2) Could anyone please provide me a sort of template from which starting my own development, or point me to some useful links?

i created a simple forum using JSP and JSTL alone - not a scriptlet or even a bean was needed. the site uses tomcat's authentication, and there are two tables called THREADS and MESSAGES. Messages uses the thread ID as a foreign key to the threads table.
So when someone starts a new topic, a thread record and a message is created, when a user replies to an existing thread, only a message record is created.
Printing out all messages in a particular thread is a simple SELECT FROM messages m, threads t WHERE m.id = t.id

How to create 2 different sites in iWeb

It may be I'm missing something really basic but I have no way to make two independent sites. I have one and if I add another this one lists below in the left column. It seem to be independent but when I export to disk they both go together. As the second site doesn't create a link in the first one you can't access it.
What I want is to have two different projects but there's not even an open menu to open the site you want.
What is what I don't understand with this program?

Thanks for the fast answer, but there's still something I miss. This is what I do:
- I use iWeb to make a site.
- I publish it to a folder in my hard disk.
I still doesn't have a domain, I'm just designing my web.
I have tried to move or rename that folder and even send it to the trash with no result. Everytime I open iWeb there it is.
You speak of a domain file which I don't know what it really is. I have searched my hard disk and it seems that nothing related with iWeb appears except the folder where I publish the site.

If you are planning to setup DR Portal at a remote location, federated portal or Data Replication Tools at DB or Storage Level can be used.
Also A Standalone Portal with a well defined Change Management (UME Data, Portal content Items such as pages, roles, KM content with km exchange) can be implemented.
If both servers will reside at sam location, Clustering may be an option.

quota is the amount of space a user can take up on the SAN. A soft quota lets the user continue
to save files but warns them that they are over their limit. When they reach the hard quota, they
will not be able to save any more data until the SAN administrator gives them more space or
they delete some files. When users near their quotas, they will be alerted.

I actually have a different definition for this web service than the one specified. I possibly have an older version of SharePoint Foundation 2010.
The one I get from SitesSoapClient is as such:
string SitesSoapClient.CreateWeb(string url, string title, string description, string templateName, uint language, uint locale, uint collationLocale, bool uniquePermissions, bool anonymous, bool presence)
OK, different declaration, but no problem: just put in some fields and we're good, right? As it turns out, that's not the case. I get an empty exception being thrown (actually the FaultException says "Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException'
was thrown." which tells me almost nothing about the problem) every time I call this function. I've altered all the parameters to check if there's maybe something wrong with what I'm passing, but I can't figure out what the problem may be.
For the record, here's my code snippet:
SitesSoapClient client = new SitesSoapClient(binding, endpoint);
client.CreateWeb("MyWebBD", "My New Website", "My description", "STS#0", 1033, 1033, 1033, false, false, false);
... I've tried changing "MyWebBD" to different things, such as to the absolute URL "HTTP://blahblah/MyWebBD" . I've also tried changing the title and the boolean values, none of which seems to make any difference.
Anyway, I know this is a thread from 3 months ago, but I'm wondering if there's a solution to this or am I SOL for now?
P.S. I noticed that there are at least TWO web service definitions on MSDN that are slightly different. The one I went to initially was

How do I duplicate ftp automatice sync like Dreamweaver?

Currently using Dreamweaver, you can specifiy a remote FTP connection and Dreamweaver will automatically upload the new file on change. I apologise if this seems absoluely obvious, but how do I replicate that in Builder?

I found a workaround while trying to get beyond a but in the remote server setup (you can't add remote servers apparently). What I was able to do was to create an FTP site mapped to the folder I want to work on. I don't even create a "project", I just open FTP and navigate to my code, double click and there I am editing away. Every time I SAVE in CF Builder, my change appears on the remote server. I just use each FTP "site" like my "Project" and I'm working pretty much the way I did with dreamweaver. There doesn't seem to be a local cache of files on my hard drive (at least none that I can find) but otherwise, I'm getting my remote site updated with each save.
Now for dealing with now document check in/out which my team of six CF developers uses for source control. So far I'd say it probably isn't going to replace Dreamweaver for us but it could eventually if other deficiencies were filled. I guess you can't expect such a young product to have all the features we have grown to love with DW over the years.
