How to create an "internetless / modemless" wifi network?

Hi folks.
Is it possible to create a wifi network using a single airport express, that does not have a modem connected to the airport? I'm having difficulty distributing the IP addresses.
Basically I would like to have a single computer plugged into the ethernet port of the airport express and have it talk to a few wifi clients, but not have a modem of any kind
Thanks again
Regards
Cat

I just tried this again to confirm that it will work.
Hold in the reset button until the amber light blinks quickly and keep holding a few more seconds then release.
Click the Airport icon at the top of the computer screen and look for a network with a name like "apple network abc123" and log on.
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons and enter your wireless information, network name, password, etc.
Click the Airport icon in the row of icons at the top of the setup window.
Click the Base Station tab to enter a name for the device and device password
Click the Internet icon and make sure the Connection Sharing setting at the bottom is set to "Share a public IP address"
Click the Music icon to enable Airtune
Click Update.
You will get a series of error messages, no internet connection, etc. click ignore on all of them. You may get the error message about no internet several times.
The indicator light should turn green.

  • How can I change the preferred WiFi network in my MacBook Pro

How can I change the preferred order of networks on my MacBook Pro? There used to be one network at my office. Now there is a second higher speed wifi network also present which I would prefer to connect to, but the Macbook connects to the older one unless manually changed.

Apple menu > System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Wi-Fi > Drag networks into the order you prefer.

  • How do I connect my existing wifi network to a new Airport network?

Right now I have two wifi networks. The one that connects to the Internet and one that's for AirPlay and has no Internet connection. How do I connect the two? The desired outcome would be to have one network that connected to the Internet and also could connect to my Airport. Please help! Thanks!

Is the wireless network for Internet access provided by another AirPort (Express, Extreme, or Time Capsule) router?

  • I'd like to create my own private WiFi network from a public WiFi network

I am often in locations where there are open WiFi networks and I'd like to use an Express to create a private WiFi network from the available public one.?
If the express can't do it on it's own can I add another router to make it work? I have ethernet connected PC's and NAS devices I want to use. Thanks
    Regards,
    Dan

If you need ethernet connections for your "private" network, an AirPort Extreme (or virtually any other router with ethernet capability for that matter) would work.
So, an AirPort Express to "receive" the public wireless signal and provide an ethernet signal to the second router which could be configured to provide both ethernet and wireless connections. Just be sure to setup the AirPort Extreme to "share a public IP address". You'll get a Double NAT message, but you can click to ignore this.

  • How to view password of known WiFi network

How do I view list a of known WiFi networks on my iPhone? Also how do i check the password that was used for those known Wifi networks? It's easily done on OS X but how is it done on iOS devices?

You can't.  That's not a feature of iOS.

  • How can I to omitt a wifi network in ios7?

Hi, I need to omitt, eliminate a known Wifi network from my iPhone. In iOs6 there was a red button for this in the details of the network, even if you were not connected to it. In iOs7 you can only forget a network if you are connected, or so it seems. How can you eliminate a network?

Not sure what you mean by 'eliminate'.  You can tap the "i" to the right of the network name to "Forget this Network" (even if you're not connected to it).  But you cannot prevent it from showing up as an available network to choose from, that's never been available.

  • How can I forget a hotel wifi network?

I spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with apple support and they were not able to help me.  I hope someone here can help me with this.
    On a macbook pro w/Yosemite
I am logged into a hotels wifi.  It is the type of thing where you ling to the network, they forward yo to a web page, you accept their user agreement, select their free basic or select to pay for higher speed.  Upon selecting the basic internet, you enter the code the hotel gave you and you are signed in.  Any subsequent times to select their wifi or auto select, you are automatically logged in.  This is what I did.
Well, the hotel basic is incredibly slow so I want to change and pay for higher speed internet.  The issue is I can't get rid of the automatic login to basic.  I did the following, some before, during, and after the apple support call:
Network preferences - advanced - forget network
erased all keychain saved passwords an keys
    deleted all saved wifi networks
    deleted web history
    deleted cache
    deleted cookies
deleted several other things as directed by support
    emptied recycle bin
    emptied secure recycle bin
    restarted after each.
There is literally no saved settings or passwords left.  I go to select the network, select it, it automatically logs me in to basic.  Why does it not just go to the web page if all is deleted?
Apple support gave up and said it was the hotels issue (have you tried talking to the hotel desk staff about something like this?). I asked the hotel if they could reset the code, they said no.  It expires in 30 days.
Same thing also happens on my iPhone and iPad.
It seems that their server is remembering my addresses and automatically signing in.  How can I stop this?
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,

Thanks, I was hoping there was a way for me to delete their connection from my end.
Network System Preferences, Highlight WiFi in the left hand panel, click the Advanced... button, then just highlight the network and press the "-" button.

  • How can i connect to a wifi network with no internet connection?

I used to be able to connect my Z10 to a wifi network even when the network had no Internet connectivity when i got my phone in Feb. 2013 (10.0) However ever since the 10.1 update this has stopped working. I cannot connect to my wifi network when there is no Internet connection. I cannot play videos / music from my phone to my tv/music system or connect to my laptop. However my laptop and tv communicate just fine through the same network.
Can anyone recommend anything for this?

Your saved wifi networks should connect automatically whether internet is available or not, you may receive a notification "there appears to be no internet connection".
Update to 10.2, if not available from your carrier then use Sachesi (see other threads).

  • How do i connect to a wifi network after my time capsule has completed its auto setup.

Let me start by saying I contract overseas currently in Afghanistan. Ok so I have over 10 networks in my area and can not connect to a router with ethernet cable. When it does the auto setup it finds the network sometimes but doesn't stay up long enough for me to enter my password. I just dont know how or where to manually set up my network. I also dont know what information i need. I dont have access to any of the routers so this might not even be possible.
    Thanks Dan

Unfortunately, the Time Capsule, and AirPort Extreme do require an Ethernet connection when they are connected to a 3rd party wireless network.
It is a bit goofy....and I don't know if it will work in your particular situation.....but here is what I do when am traveling and I want to set up a private wireless network in my room......and the hotel only provides a wireless connection. I travel with an AirPort Express and another AirPort router....two devices.
One AirPort Express is configured to "Join a wireless network", so it receives the wireless signal from the hotel. That same Express then feeds an Ethernet signal from its LAN port to the WAN port on another AirPort router, which is set up to "create a wireless network".
So, I can set up my own private network in the room and connect from multiple devices....wireless or wired...and only pay for one connection.

  • Just got an iPhone 3GS, How do I connect to home WiFi network?

I posted this in the network discussion as well, but wasn't getting answers and I need to resolve this problem as soon as possible.
I just got my brand new iPhone 3GS. I just recently finished fully charging it and activating it. I am exploring my new device but I am getting extremely frustrated as to connecting to WiFi. I want to use WiFi for web browsing, but when I go to WiFi on my iPhone it says No Networks (or something of the sort). I try to enter in the name of my network (which I know). But I don't know what kind of security OR the password to the network.
I really want to enjoy this phone/gadget but I don't know how to set it up to connect to my network.
Can somebody help me in telling me where I can find the security type and password to my network.
    Thanks!

Sounds like you (or a buddy who helped you) setup your home network to Cloak its SSID (name). Thus as you said, you need to manually enter it.
But from there, you will also need to know any Key (password) you set on it to join.
If you don't know those items, not much we can do to help (now I could always drive on by fire up airrack-ng suite and break in for ya)
You can always go to your computer, try to access your router (odds are http://192.168.1.1 ) via your browser.
Then see what settings you can get to.
If it was locked down, then I suggest going to your routers website and read up how to reset the router (odds are button on back you have to hold in for 10 secs) which will reset the router back to default settings.
All devices will then have to re-join your default network (real manual that came with router or get one online before resetting).

  • How to make a INTERNET ONLY wifi network for guests at a business..

    hey guys/gals:
im trying to set up a public network for guests at my business. i only have one internet subscription for the building and a big server and several switches in the basement providing wired 100base-T network connections to all my computers. they are all on the same network and domain.
now i want my guests to have internet access ONLY. I don't want them to even be able to see any of my printers, computers, servers or anything! just the web. what equipment do i need and how do i set it up?
    -thanks in advance

You can use the Wireless router or the Access point to provide the wireless network. However, there is no such option on these devices.
Guest user can not access your computers, printers or servers unless or until you give "Sharing" permission to them.So if enable sharing and give permission then only the Guest user can share your computers or printers.
