How to create an OS install partition

I would like to create a partition in with I could start my mac up with and install Mountain Lion incase anything happens to my mac. I've googled it and found some websites, but I would like to ask here to make sure I'm doing everything correctly.
Thanks For Your Help

Click here and follow the instructions; as the internal drive may fail, the partition should be created on an external one.

  • How to create a separate /var partition on solaris non-global zone

    Hi
I found no simple way to create a separate /var partition in solaris non-global zone.
I am using solaris 10 u9 and my root pool is zfs. My zone's zonepath is also separate zfs fs.
But, I do not know how to make the /var as a mountpoint of another zfs dataset since /var is not empty.
I also do not know if there is a way to install a zone with /var as a separate (outside '/') partition.
    That will be really useful.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks
    Edited by: vadud3 on Sep 20, 2010 12:16 PM

I meant a separate zfs fs with mountpoint '/var' in a non-global zone.
I am insisting, because I do not want /var to fill up the '/' on non-global zone.
With default non-global zone installation, you cannot avoid that.
My zonepath itself is a zfs fs. I also have a zfs dataset provisioned to the non-global zone.
I cannot create a zfs fs out of that dataset and mount it as '/var' becasue by then non-global zone
    already installed content on '/var'
I want the '/var' as a separate dir or mountpoint, the same reason global zone gives you that option during install.
    Thanks

  • How to create an ASD bootable partition

Can someone tell me how I can create an ASD boot partition. In my ACMT class we had a USB drive with multiple partitions each being an ASD bootable partition.  I have a drive broken up into 16 partitions and would like to have each one a boot ASD. One thing I don't understand is that when downloading the ASD from the GSX site it comes down in 3 image files. Do I somehow use them all?
    thanks for the help
    john

    Hi,
    - You use them all via double clicking on the first dmg file.   Make sure all three dmg's are in the same directory.
    - There is a guide for this on GSX
    Cheers

  • How to create a silent install without firstlaunch and autoupdate enabled

Its been asked numerous times but I cant find an answer in these forums or via search.  I want to create an admin install for Blackberry Desktop Manager 7.1.  RIM publishes a guide for creating a silent install but not a useful guide for turning off the autoupdate feature.  Their answer, basically, is to regedit the HKCU keys to disable autupdate.  However, These keys do not exist until after the user logins and runs the desktop manager for the first time.
How can these keys be incorporated during the initial install?  I attempted to create an MST with orca however, contrary to to RIM's silent install guide you can't run the msi directly, rather you have to use the setup.exe to kick off the msi.
Has anyone had any luck creating the mst? What lines in the msi do you edit to create the mst? And finally, how do you run the install with the mst in command line?
Considering that the largest user base for blackberries are enterprise environments RIM really needs to make a more admin friendly install with proper documentation. While our hate does make us stronger, **bleep** off the IT crowd will only further fuels the push to other devices.

The steps you followd seem right, the only thing however that is missing is when you add the channel with provider class name. The channel gets added only for the domain, it does not automatically perculate to all roles and users below if the user has customized his settings. You would have to enable the option Apply changes to all roles and sub roles for the user to inherit this, however if you have made any specific changes for the user that will get over written by the domain values when you select the option apply changes to all roles and sub roles.

  • How to create rescue and recovery partition for my thinkpad edge 11

    Hi,
I'm using thinkpad edge 11 with win 7 home Premium 32 bit.
Before, i tried to restore to factory setting, there is a drive partition of rescue and recovery in my thinkpad.
But, when I was trying to restore to factory setting, I missed the steps and made the drive partition of rescue and recovery formatted.
So, now, I don't have it again in my thinkpad.
Then, after that, appeared another drive partition  in my thinkpad with name S: Sytem, beside C: WIndow7 and D: Data.
So, I need the solution from you all as knowing more about thinkpad edge in this forum.
    1. How I remove the unkwon drive, S: System from my thinkpad?
    2. How I can create again the rescue and recovery partition on my thinkpad(wih Win 7 Home premium 32bit installer inside plus all the drivers)?
    Thanks...

    Hello mate,
To restore the Q: partition you have to use the Lenovo Recovery Discs. Hope you burn them before erasing the partition, otherwise you have to order them from Lenovo.

I would agree with you if there was always an Internet connection available and the the Apple Servers were always in operation.  In those instances when this is not the case, a USB installation drive is good to have.  I speak from experience.

  • How to create DAD after install?

I have installed Oracle 10g on Linux server. Then from 10g Companion CD, I installed just Oracle HTTP Server and HTML DB on Windows client. The Windows client has absolutely no other install of Oracle except what is installed by Companion CD. The install of Oracle HTTP Server and HTML DB proceeds without any error. At the end of install, the OUI tell me that the URL is http://<machine>:7777. I connect to the URL and get a page which is Welcome to Oracle HTTP Server. My question is where do I go from here? There is no documentation on how to configure DAD. The page itself has no links to anything of use.

  • How to create up-to-date Recovery Drive and Recovery Partition on Windows 8.1 U1.

I am running 8.1 and exploring the recovery options.
I'm periodically creating recovery images, etc. but would like to do better than that.
I'd like to know how to:
Create an updated Recovery Partition that will restore to a Recovery Image (WIM) that I choose.
Modify / Create a Recovery Drive that includes a system image
of my choice, as opposed to an image created by the manufacturer / supplier (and the extra work that that implies).  If I can create an up to date partition and mark it as such, then I'm clearly done.  Should I not be able to sensibly
make my own partition, how do I create this on a USB recovery drive?  (The built in interface has a Boolean option, use hard drive recovery partition OR use nothing.  This would be solved if it
also had an option to use current recovery image.  I'm happy to write simple code to make this happen if that's what it takes.)
Put another way.  I can make a recovery image at will, how do I create a recovery partition and recovery drive to match?
I'm no expert on the ins and outs of Windows 8.1 recovery, if this is already covered elsewhere, I'd appreciate a link.

I have documented an unsupported process for creating an automated recovery for use in a task sequence
here. However, if I read your post correctly you are suggesting being able to do this from USB media. The method for creating the recovery partition is simple. It is simply a partition containing a folder called RecoveryImage with your install.wim
inside. Reagentc is the tool that will actually tell Windows where that recovery is. While I don't personally have a use for what your suggesting, I may give it a shot just to see if it can be done. I suspect it will work.

  • How to create Install OS X Yosemite for MacBook Pro Retina Early-2015

HELP ME! Unable to Boot from Install OS X Yosemite USB
I just bought a new MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early-2015 and wish to install Windows 8.1. I created Windows Install USB using Boot Camp and Installing Windows. Unfortunately, I erase all SSD by accident.
I created Install OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 USB as guided at https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201372 using my MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013.
This USB works perfectly on my MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013 but I am unable to boot from Yosemite 10.10.2 Install USB on my new MacBook Pro Retina Early-2015. The white stop sign appeared on black screen all the time. I am stuck here and can't reinstall OS X Yosemite on my new MacBook.
I also can't use Recovery boot as the SSD had been erased.
Please help to show me how to create OS X Install USB that can use with my MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early-2015

Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys.
It should result in a display with a revolving globe.
If you follow the directions, it will connect you to the Apple servers and you will be able to install the original OSX that came with your MBP.
You will need a solid Internet connection.
    Ciao.

  • How can I remove the BootCamp partition? as the size i created ws too small to install MS Office on 64Bit Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro (Aug'13)

How can I remove the BootCamp partition drive for Windows 8.1, as the size which I created was too small for me to install Microsoft Office onto Windows 8.1 64-BIt. The machine which I have is the MacBook Pro 13' inch purchased in August 2013.

Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.

You can't get there with GUID/GPT.
There are tips on making a USB flash device that is bootable.
You can set aside a small 6GB partition somewhere and put Windows 7 installer there and run it WHILE IN Windows.
Windows Vista can be upgraded in place to 7 RC.
    You'll need NTFS (30-50GB).
Windows doesn't support FW for booting.
You can create a drive that has Master Boot Record.
