please help me to create infopackage groups & Process chains & what is the difference.
please explain any realtime scenerios.
when will we choose infopackage groups & process chains
and what is the difference betweeen these two.

Cheta,
You can create the IPG with the selction of all infopackages in RSA1-Modelling Area to automate those loads automatically. That means it will trigger only those IP's which have been pooled up in that IGP...
Where as Process chain is also a automated process where you can have different process types which can be used during the load and after the load has been done.. For example in ODS once after the data has been loaded if you want to activate the data then in PC youo can insert the process type for that, but in case of IGP it will only execute your IP.

1.From functional specification requirements,find out the datasources by using business content check(offline) or using Metadata repository(online), u need to have TREX installed in ur system.Do the GAP Analysis and note down the objects which are not in business content and create Z objects(Datasources,ODS or Infobjects,Cubes). Draw the bubble diagram and derrive ER diagram from it and finally do logical information model(cube model) and decide what u need in data flow.
2.You have a quick sizer in market place which can help you to decide the sizing of BI project.Take care of trade-off's between line item dimensions and normal dimension which have large impact on ur sizing.
3.There is no such default sizing,depends on ur reporting requirements whether u need detailed reporting or snap shot reporting.
4.There is no trade-off's between multiprovider and Cube regarding performance.From performance point of view we have to consider other factors such as aggregates,Indexing,Partitioning etc..
6.The Max number of Keyfields are 16 and data fields are 749.
7.Yes SID's are created for ODS when you check the flag for BEX Reporting.

Goto Tcode:RSPC and select your load data process type where you have to right click on the process chain and select Select create message,there are three types of messages
1>Successful
2>Error
3>Always
If you already created message then go to maintain message
Where you have two buttons
1>is for Edit Document
2>Maintain Recpiants
Goto Edit Document and put your comment and set their mail address in Mail recipiants.
Note there are 2 types of messages you can kept at execution of infopackage process type.
If load is successful send the mesaage to recipients
If load is failed send the message to mail recipt.
It would help you.

Hi Kevin,
1. Well by default all the KF that you include in your query go into a Key Figure Structure. You can additionally have another structure for defining how your chars are laid out. A common example is a Calmonth structure where you have selections for 12 months, quarers and YTD values. This would be a char structure with different selections (for each month, qtr etc)
2. Yes, a selection with a KF is the same as restricting a KF. You can use am RKF is you have one on the left hand side, or if you need to do this locally in the query, right click the structure and choose New Selection, then proceed to choose your KF and reqd char values.

Infopackage Group & Process chain

Hi All,
I read in documentation for Upgrade to BI 7.0, that infopackage groups needs to be migrated to Process chains, during upgrade.
But I do find infopackage groups existing in RSA1OLD( after upgrade) and they can be scheduled and seems to function properly.
1) So why is it necessary to convert infopackage groups to Process chain ?
2) If I don't migrate to Process Chain, what problems could occur ( as client is more keen on keeping infopackage groups and not disturb the setup.)

I would like to know about event based process chains. In connection to this, could you please answer the following queries,
1. How to create events
2. How to link created event to the process chain in the same BI or BW system and as well as from
    externel BI system.
3. How link one process chain with other process chain (i.e, After completion of one process chain, it
    should trigger other dependent process chain)

1). Doubt regarding first question.
For example, i would like to create time based event (it should be trigger daily at specified time),
where we have to maintain scheduling options while creating event.
When i checked SM62 there i found only two options a). Event name and b). Description.
Could please send any doucument link if you have.
Ans : You can use function modules like "BP_EVENT_RAISE" in a program and schedule the program to trigger.
2). For externel BIW system also same procedure we need to follow or any difference.
Ans : Externally you need to trigger the same event.
3). i found dependent process chain also had scheduling options as direct scheduling insted of start using meta chain or API. As you said dependent process chain should be mata chain. it seems dependent process chain may be Meta chain or Direct scheduilg.
Ans : Its your choice how you want to schedule it.You can either make that dependent chain a metachain or schedule it separately.
I found at the end of first process chain they kept one process like Raise event and second process chain connected with the help of raise event process event name. If you have any idea about this process could explain a bit more.
Ans : May be they are raising the event in the main chain and triggering the dependent chain using this event.
But Metachain is preferred for such thing.Though it does similar thing.

User wants to schedule the process chain - what is the best practice

I posted earler and got the anwser.
Create a custom ABAP program that calls the RSPC_API_CHAIN_START Function Module, with a selection for the Process Chain where your user can enter the Meta Chain name to start the process.
To make it simpler for the user to execute this, create a custom tcode for them in SE93, so that they logon to your BW environment, call up that tcode, enter the Meta Chain name and execute. With this, they wouldn't have to have access to RSPC.
I did the above and the user not able to execute it since he doesn't have access to the cube/dso to update the cube.
To overcome this I wrote another abap program and used the
SUBMIt program user ALEREMOTE
and there is a problem.I called the process chain start program using ALEREMOTE .
Now the user needs access to authorization object S_BTCH_NAM and authorization field BTCUNAME with value ALEREMOTE.
So again due to SOX the basis doesn't want to give the necessary access.
What is the best solution.
How in general if the user needs to execute the process chain how they do it.

In general production scenerio, we do not run process chain manually. To execute a process chain you should have necessary authorization. As you have assigned alertmote in the start variant, any user other thatn that will not be able to trigger the same.
Instead of alertmote , use the nornal start variant to trigger the process chain and give the user the normal authorization. Whenever user wants to run the infopackage manually or via process chain they should have the auth to view the infoprovider content as well....

How can we set a process chain to trigger the nodes w/o manual intervention

We have a Master PC which has the loading & activation of some Hierarchies.Wats happening is some of the hier activations are failing (we got track of the root cause as well) and the nodes below are not getting triggered automatically, eventhough they have been designed to get triggered irrespective of success or failure of this hierarchy activation. The chain prompts for the u2018Status change & trigger the following eventsu2019 opo-up and only when it was said u2018yesu2019, the subsequent node gets triggered in the chain. If this manual intervention was not there, the Chain gets struck at the activation node, whic is running in yellow status for long, though a short dump - error has already been thrown.
My query is how can we set a process chain not to anticipate the manual intervention of chnaging the status & trigger events pop-up

i'm not sure abt the query but what i got thru ur qustion is u have to automtaically go to the next load/step even the proceess chain fails in the step......
for that we have the same master meta chains with link of so many local chains...for this even if there are some interventions/fails in between the process chains it never gets stopped....
it goes to the next step and we'll work, analyse and finish the failed load manually....the next day it'll be
fine...
b4 to this make sure that there is no dependency for the previous loads....
And now the solution i found for this is in the process chain design itself.......
while giving the links itself we'll be getting the options as status RED,GREEN and RED(or)GREEN.....now if u got for the third option the event goes to the next step even it is unsuceesful....

There are 3 infoPackages which i have to create and include in the InfoPackage Group.
Since I am not aware of InfoPackage Groups Can any body tell me the proceure and anybody can send Documents

Hi,
InfoPackageGroups have been used in older BW Release for designing a data staging (upload) process. Since BW Release 3.1 this is done with process chains.
My exprience is, that InfoPackageGroup are much easyier to define, but have many disadvantages:
- the only allow strict sequentiel or full parallel load of infopackages
- if one infopackage fails (red) in a sequentiel group, the whole group is stopped
- other processes like change-run, deleting of old psa-requests etc. cannot be included directly.
So I suggest to use process-chains instead of Infopackage groups.
Creating a Infopackage group:
In RSA1 click on Infosources . you'll see a icon for infopackage grooups on the middle panel beside the search,legend icon, click on it then a right panel opens where you can see the list of infopackage groups.Right click on the top node and say create.
Drag and drop your infopackagesfrom the left pane in it and right click and say schedule.
It will open a window enabling you to prioritise your info package loads in the order you wnt.

How to create messages in process chains?

Dear Gurus,
I want to use the alert system in the process chains. like when one process fails i have to receive the message on my mail or as an SMS on my mobile.
I tried the same thing with one of my process chain. When i right click one of my process in my process chain i will get the create message option. Hi,
You can also send messages to an application process of the chain, depending on the success or failure of the process.
1.       From the context menu of a process, create an additional process variant of the Send Message type.
2.       If you maintain a message, first specify whether you want the message to be sent when the process has been completed successfully or unsuccessfully. Then choose Next.
3.       You arrive at a window, in which you can select an existing process variant or create a new one.
4.       If you create a new process variant, edit the document that is going to be sent, and maintain a list of recipients.
5.       Save your process variant and go back a step.
The message process variant is now assigned to your application process. When the message is sent, the status information and the process log can also be sent.

Import of Process Chains - What is the best practice

Hi Colleagues,
Wish to check on what is considered as a best practice:
1. Move Process chains to the Production Environment through Transports
Else
2. Create them in the production system directly (obviously after having tested the scenario in other envrionments)
Also would be glad to know if you have some links to posts which have discussions on the errors encountered in transports of process chains.

Thanks a lot for the reply and the time taken to update this post.
I will have to try this suggestion and shall update this post. Am now away from the project site, however since i was trying to help a colleague, will forward this reply to him to try it out and seek his observation.
However a couple of things:
1. This problem arose when the process chain was transported from Development to the Quality system.
2. Though the error came up in the transport but when we were trying load the data into the Quality system using this process chain we were able to do so.
So looks like the error had no impact on the performance of either the info-pack or the process chain. However we were sceptical on the our decision to import this process chain to the Production due to this error.
However having seen hyour reply i will suggest my colleague to try it out (assuming that this error is still a pending issue) and shall update this post for the benefit of all.

Process Chain: what does the variant do with "Delelte changelog"

We have a process chain developed by a consulting firm that inside the process chain, there is a variant with the description of "Delelte changelog older than 3 months". Double click this variant to open this variant interface, 1st column titled "Object" shows all rows are ODS picture icons, 2nd column titled "Object Type" shows all rows are "Change Log Table", 3rd column titled "Object Name" shows all rows starting with "8ZXXXXXXXXXX". What kind of this variant function in Process Chain as "Delete changelog"?

DSO contains 3 tables. New data table, change log table and active data table.
New data table: When the data was loaded, first the data goes to new data table.
change log table: When you activate the data in DSO, it goes to change log table and active data table. Change log table contains the changes happened like before image,after image.
Active data: Reporting is done out of this table.
Over a period of time the change log table grows in size and it needs to be periodically cleaned to reduce the size of the table.
The variant used to delete the change log entries if it is older than 3 months automatically using the process type "delete change log" in process chains.

Just re-install a new OS X Lion. On the "Create Your Computer Account" screen, what's the difference between "Full Name" and "Account Name"?

Your computer name by default would be "John David Appleseed's Macbook Pro"
But you can always change that in System Preferences->Sharing
And yes, the first account you set up will be an administrator.
