How to create raised paths?

I have CS2. Let's say that I have a complex path (not just a circle or square but really funky). What I want is for Illustrator to make a 3D shape out of that and the shape should be kind of similar to how a cookie rises in the oven.
For instance, something like the link (except my paths are not reducible to circles and/or straigh lines):
http://www.fotolia.com/id/698804?by=serie
Now, the closest I came to that is doing the beveled extrusion with "plastic shading" option, but that seems to only create the plastic shading on the bevel and the top just stays solid filled and so the 3D look is not there. Or I can turn off the cap but then I get a nice 3D ridge around my path and no fill inside the path.

I was joking about criticizing my work it was only crudely drawn and
certainly had plenty of problems.
AI's 3D is not intended to give the user full 3D capabilities it is
just a tool to give the use some basic capabilities never intended to
replace 3D programs.
The idea was to give the user who need to create a simple 3D object
that really did not warrant the expense of purchasing a 3D program and
mastering the nuances of that program.
It can do for the user what it is intended to do and with some clever
adaptation perhaps a little more but it is not a 3D program it is just
an effect. It was my hope that eventually it would evolve to something
more if it got a lot of user attention and it does get that here in
the forum and there are users that have more needs than just this
basic 3D and it seems like a lot of them.
However as of today as we see there has not been an advancement in
this area so I hold little hope there ever will be.
There are many people here as you can see who complain about it the 3D
effect but that is a bit unrealistic since it is only an effect. What
they are really saying is that they hope the
illustrator evolves to the point that there will be a 3D space and
modeling capabilities, I don't know if that will happen but the 3D
Effect is not probably capable of such a task.
But it is fun to speculate.

  • How to create clipping paths shape like a slice of a circle?

I want to make a DVD label by dividing the circle into 8 equal slices (like cutting a pie 4 times). In each slice I will put an actor's photo in it.
I think I need to create 8 layers to house the 8 slices of photo, each layer gets a clipping path that is in the shape of a 45 degree slice of the circle. Once I have this setup I can paste photos into the layers and adjust the photos until it looks good in the confine of each slice.
The question is how to create these clipping paths in the shape of a slice of the pie? I have already drawn a 120mm circle (using the elipse path tool) denoting the outside boundary of the dvd label. But I don't know how to cut it into 8 precise slices of 45 degree each. Help?

    Here's another way:
Make a circle and a square that covers one quadrant of the circle. Select the square with the Path Selection Tool. Edit > Free Transform, using the reference point that corresponds to the center of the circle, and 90 minus the angle of the slice into the Horizontal Skew field. Hint: you can copy the results from the Windows Calculator and paste them directly into Photoshop for this. This will give you greater precision that you might care to enter by hand.
Once you have committed the transform, select 'Intersect shape areas' in the option bar for the Path Selection Tool, and click Combine. There's your slice.

    HI
If iam not wrong you want to select a file from a location that you don't know so if this is ur problem then use the function module
    F4_FILENAME
this FM helps to locate and select the desired file from the system.

  • How to create simple path map??

    Hello,
I have robot and I can control by labview, name of robot is Drjaguar and I want to move robot form one point to another point which are fixed.
Initially thinking is there are no any obstacles in the path.
Could any one Please guide me that how can I do so that my robot move form one point to another point when I run my vi.
I am working in laboratory so I want to run my robot in that area.
I have looked at the path planning vi (https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-8983     and    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372983C-01/lvrobovi/path_planning_pal/) , but I  didn't get it means I understand logic of  that vi but how can I generate map for my laboratory and how can I mentions this is starting point and this is ending point.
    Please guide me.
Thank you very much in advance for your time.

    Hi,
as described in the documents (An introduction to A* Path Planning (using LabVIEW)) you can build a map of your room using an 2D array of non-zero values. How to do that is also shown in the attached VI of the document. Did you try that already? Or do you want a fancier view of the room?
The VI also shows you how to define a starting and ending point.
I think the document provides all the information you are looking for.

  • BGP - How to create redundant path by bgp (as path prepend alternative)

I am having issues with BGP seeing the advertised routes. I am trying to find an alternate to AS-Path prepend and trying to use bgp instead for a redundant path.
    Setup:-
We have 3 mpls sites. (in reality its more than 20 but for simplicity we will call that 3).  The 3 sites are SiteA , SiteB and siteC.  I have simplified the issue below.
SiteA - Has MPLS link running eBGP with AS 300.
SiteB - Has MPLS link running eBGP with AS 200
SiteC- Has MPLS link running eBGP with AS 100
Site B and C has a local LAN connection between each other.  Site A and B and C are on BGP network. Site A can see B and C and so on.

Thanks for responding. i have added a prefix list for filtering outbound. I was hoping that it will learn that route through the bgp network statement.
ie.. I have added network B at C and network C at B. They both are neighbors and when i see advertised routes and received routes i can see the routes.
How should i proceed or any guidance would help..
From site C i want to see below when i do show ip bgp for 20.20.20.20.
    20.20.20.20  - is reachable as As200 -i
    20.20.20.20  - As100 - 200 - i  (i don't see this)

  • How to create new paths for catalog

I just had to get a new RAID after what looks like an internal power problem in my old one. It was mirrored, and no sign of corruption, and I managed to get it going long enough for me to copy all the files over to the new one. My catalog file is on my Mac, but obviously it's pointing to a location that doesn't exist anymore.
My LR was organised as a big folder of images linking to files in my archive with folders like 001 Barcelona 09, 002 East London, 003 Broncolor Test, and so on. So the structure is the same. I can only see the option of linking one image at the time, which would take ages. Is there another way of remapping the whole catalog at once?
    Thanks

Maybe a couple of screen shots would help to explain my setup. I thought I could keyword and work on my old system with the LR information embedded in the files. I set up my archive as basic as possible (001ipsum, 002lorem, 003etc) so that I could use it with achieving systems like LR without being dependent on it. Worked for people in the past that have had to change systems several times, because the system in vogue at the time went bust or started playing up. Too much work. I thought LR was easy and would be easy to use in case of problems like this. Renaming my new drive is really not a good option, unless I can rename it again after repairing all my paths. Seems like a vary cumbersome workaround for something I thought would be pretty basic. Peoples RAIDs crashes and people changes setups all the time...
I really appreciate your help here

    HI REMI ,
    1. ANSWER TO YOUR 1st QUESTION i.e. HOW TO CREATE A NAVIGATIONAL PATH :
IN IDT 4.0  , YOU WILL FIND A NAVIGATIONAL PATH IN BOTTOM WHEN YOU WILL OPEN YOUR      BUSINESS LAYER , THERE YOU CAN CLICK CUSTOM NAVIGATION PATH -> THEN CLICK AT      ADD A NAVIGATIOAL PATH BUTTON->THEN GIVE NAME NAVIGATIONAL PATH NAME->THEN ADD THE OBJECTS UNDER YOUR NAVIGATIONAL PATH IN A HIERARCHICAL SEQUENCE .     FOR EX :     COUNTRY->STATE->CITY . AND YOUR CUSTOM NAVIGATIONAL PATH IS     CREATED.
    2. ANSWER TO YOUR SECOND QUESTION WHAT IS THE USE OF NAVIGATIONAL PATH IN WEBI REPORT :
NAVIGATIONAL PATH HELPS YOU TO PERFORM DRILL DOWN ON YOUR DIMENSION OBJECTS , FOR EX : LET 'S SAY YOU CREATED A NAVIGATIONAL PATH- REGION SALES  : Containing COUNTRY->STATE->SALES. THIS WILL HELP YOU TO DRILL DOWN IN YOUR WEBI REPORT AS SHOWN BELOW :
    COUNTRY                      SALES

  • How to Extrude a path created with Pen Tool

    Hi All
I have created a path with the pen tool (the brown part), and now I want to extrude it, but it extrudes the whole containing block (See image below)
Now I have tried everything, from grouping to compound paths etc, but nothing works.
How do I extrude my path?
    Thank you

...and Texturized it AFTER the extrusion....
Applied a Grain Texture after the extrusion.
    For clarity:
Always pay attention to the Appearance palette. The order of the items in the Appearance stack reflects the order in which they are applied.
A so-called "live effect" (of which both 3D Effect and Grain Texturizer are examples) is an operation which is automatically re-applied after you make an edit to the object to which it is applied. The effects are applied in the order in which they appear in the Appearance stack, from top to bottom.
    1. Ellipse Tool: Draw an ellipse. Leave it selected.
    2. Apply 3D Effect.
    3. Apply Texturize Effect.
Look at the Appearance palette. 3D Effect is listed above Texturizer, and the whole 3D rendering is texturized.
    4. Appearance palette: Drag 3D Effect to below Texurizer. The unwanted extrusion of the entire texture image appears.

  • How to create a logical and a physical path?

    Hi ,
I want to know how is  a logical path created ?
Also , how can a physical path be created from a provided logicall path?
    Regards,
    Harshit Rungta

    Hi,
Use FM u2018FILE_GET_NAMEu2019 to assign the physical file name using a logical file name.
Remember you need to create u2018logical file nameu2019 using transaction u2013 FILE.
R/3 applications run on various platforms with various file systems. Hence we use platform-independent logical file names in our application programs.
Function module u2018FILE_GET_NAMEu2019 converts a logical file name to the corresponding physical file name and path for the hardware platform concerned.
For this conversion to work for different platforms, the definition of a logical file name must include a logical file path, which in turn is converted to different physical file paths, depending on the particular platform. The platform-specific file name returned by the function module is composed of the physical file path for the current platform and the physical file name associated with the logical file name. Placeholders in physical file and path names are substituted at runtime by the corresponding current values.
    Example
    logical file name:     MONTHLY_SALES_FILE
    physical file name:     VALUES<PARAM_1>
    logical path:     SALES_DATA_PATH
    physical path (UNIX):     /usr/<SYSID>/<FILENAME>
    physical path (Windows):     C:\SALES\<FILENAME>.

  • [AI CS4 Mac] How to create a Compound Path?

    Hi Folks,
I'm trying to create a compound path in AI CS4 for Mac, but I have not been successful. One would think this would be easy, so maybe I'm missing the obvious solution...
What is best way to create a compound path using the SDK? I just need to make a compound path out of two non-overlapping rectangles so that I can create a clipping mask. Nothing tricky.
The SDK is not clear about the best way to go about creating a compound path, but I figured that programmitically selecting the two rectanlges and then using the built in "adobe_makeCompound" action would work, but it doesn't.
    err = sAIActionManager->PlayActionEvent("adobe_makeCompound", kDialogNone, NULL);
When the above code is called while I'm debugging, I get a dialog box that reads: The object "Make Compound Path" is not currently available.
If I click the "Stop" button while debugging, the value of err is 1346458189 which is 'PARM'. So, maybe I need to set a parameter? The crazy thing is that there appears to be no parameters needed for the "adobe_makeCompound" action event. When I created the action manually, the resulting .aia file (see its contents below) has a parameterCount == 0. I've tried passing a parameter block without adding any parameters to it (instead of NULL), but still no joy.

              /isOpen 0
              /eventCount 1
              /event-1 {

                        /isOn 1
                        /hasDialog 0
                        /parameterCount 0
Any help or suggestions on how to create a compound path would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!
    -- Jim

Actually, here's a more useful variation
// rectangle1 & rectangle2 are the AIArtHandles for your existing paths
    AIArtHandle compound = 0;
    sArt->NewArt(kCompoundPathArt, kPlaceAbove, rectangle1, &compound);
    sArt->sReorderArt(rectangle1, kPlaceInsideOnTop, compound);
    sArt->sReorderArt(rectangle2, kPlaceInsideOnTop, compound);
// this will create the compound right next to wherever rectangle1 is, much simpler and more likely what you want

  • How to give network path while creating oracle directory.

    utl_file.put_line(f,s);
    utl_file.fclose(f);
    end WriteTest;
Help how to give network path while creating oracle directory.
--when i give local machine path then it will create at local machine where oracle is installed. but not able to create at other machine.
    Zakir

Well for starters your directory object is called TESTDIR and in your fopen statement you are referring to TEST2DIR.
On top of that I'm not sure oracle is happy to refer to network locations. I think you have to map it to a regular drive mapping (shared directory) type path. Can't say I've every tried to do it though.

  • How to create a Virtual Path ??

I want to know how to create a Virtual Path in My Application !!!
that is HTTP link that refer to existing folder in the file system
    thanks

Alias can never be mount, but the virtual drive I want to create must be able to mount and unmount.
Desktop having both original and virtual drive.
My system is booted from 'Snow leopard' and I've an another drive, name 'Disk Testing' so by using a software I create the virtual drivre of 'Disk Testing' as you can see in the image. Both the drives are identical to each other and both are able to mount and unmount, they are having same data and attributes.
So I want to create exactly this kind of virtual drive by using any apple script or command.i.e without using any software.

  • How to create a relative path for Flash video on a CDROM

Hello - I need to distribute a web site to a client on a
cross-platform Hybrid CDROM so that they can edit and make
adjustments. This website also includes 2 flash videos that need to
    be included on the CDROM.
My problem is this: I encoded the video in the Flash Encoder
app and brought them into the main Flash app for conversion into
swf files. I also used the media controller parameter to add a
control skin to the movies. I now have 2 swf files associated with
the flv video file, and I understand that all 3 of these must stay
together for the video to work properly. The video plays correctly
along with the controller skin on my Mac however only the
controller shows up but no video on the CDROM. I believe that this
has something to do with absolute vs. relative file paths for the
video flv file to the swf controller file.
I do not know how to change this path - I know "where" to
change it within the controller parameter options box but do not
know what syntax exactly to place here. How do you specify a
relative path here? When I try to do it I get an error saying that
the flv file cannot be found.
I am trying to use the following syntax: /video/welding.flv
where video is the name of the folder and welding is the name of
the file. I have done numerous Google searches on this subject and
stil cannot find an answer, so any help is appreciated.

OK - I assigned the FLVPlayback component the instance name
of videoPlayer to keep it simple. And I copied the above code into
an Actions - Frame on Frame 1. FYI - The name of the video has been
changed from welding to Timet Sponge.
Now I get the following error messages:
