How to create Shared RAW disk on solaris 10?

Hi,
I have built two solaris machine using VMware. I am going to configuare RAC. how to create shared RAW disk for ocr, votedisk and asm?
OS version = 5.10 32 bit
Thanks

use openfiler ( software based SAN) if do not have shared disk storage system, this is an appliance kinda software can behave as SAN storage, it can be installed on VM as a guest machine and rest configuration remain same as storage and your RAC deployment.

alternativly you can follow below method

    Thanks in advance.
Describe in sequence how to create shared storage for a two guest/node Red Hat Linux Enterprise using Oracle 2.1 VM Server on Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5 using command line or appropriate interface.
How to create Shared Storage using Oracle 2.1 VM Server?
How to configure Network for two node cluster (oracle clusterware)?

    Hi Suresh Kumar,
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2, Patch Set 3 (10.1.2.3) is required to be fully certified on OEL 5.x or RHEL 5.x.
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 10.1.2.0.0 or 10.1.2.0.1 versions are not supported with Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 5.0 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.0. It is recommended that version 10.1.2.0.2 be obtained and installed.
Which implies Oracle AS 10.1.2.x is some what certified on RHEL 5.x
I think it would be better if you get in touch with Oracle Support regarding this .
Sorry , I am not aware of any document on migration from Sun Solaris to RH Linux 5.2 .
    Thanks,

Us ean external drive formatted FAT32 or ExFat. Both OSx and Windows can read/write to the drive and both can use the same data files as long as you have a program that can open and save these files. For example, Word running both on OSx and on Windows will be able to work with the same document on the external drive.

  • OCR and vote disk Allocation for shared raw storage with Solaris 10 questio

    Hi all,
Current environment is Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit OS with Hitachi SAN for shared storage and Sun E6900 servers.
For Oracle 10g RAC (10.2) and ASM, I am setting up the vote disk and OCR files on shared raw storage area network.
Assume that I have a 35Gb LUN carved out on raw device for the vote disk and OCR for a 2-node Oracle 10g RAC cluster and since the vote disk and OCR only require 120MB of storage, is there a way to use only a 120MB slice from the LUN or do I need to allocate the entire LUN/raw device to the vote disk?
I am looking for a way to avoid wasting space for the OCR and vote disk with my 10g RAC cluster and we are using raw devices and Oracle 10g RAC Clusterware with Veritas filesystem for the disk management. Can I have several slices on Solaris 10 with raw shared storage (Hitachi) to triple mirror my OCR and vote disk files?
It seems odd to have to use an entire 35GB LUN just for 2 small files: vote disk and OCR. Is there a way to partition a 120MB slice on one of the devices and allocate the rest to ASM?

    Hi
    In our RAC env.
we have 1GB LUN for OCR and Voting Disk and 100GB LUN for ASM disk. we have 4 Node RAC env on AIX with 2 SAN storage on Hitachi system for our Application.
we keept 1st Voting diks on SAN-1 2nd Voting Disk on SAN-2 and third voting on SAN-3.
OCR disk on SAN1 and OCR_MIRROR Disk on SAN-2.
we have ASM DIsk with Normal Redundancy . Failure Group 1 on SAN-1 and
    Failure Group 2 on SAN-2

Can one specify a "filename" to this raw device (w/o a symbolic link creation) for example "rawtb.dbf" ?

    hi
u just create a symbolic link using ln command. use that in the create tablespace command.directly u can't do that by specifying the raw device name.

  • How to create shared lock

    Hi,
Can any please tell me how create a shared lock in steps.
    Thanks in advance
    Priya

    Hi Swati,
This may not be possible, because you have created shared lock for the four different views but the table is one.
So when one is editing then definitely if the other try to access the same entries then the object will be locked.
First understand how and which lock can do which type of action.
For your assistance read this and try to find the answer.
    Exclusive lock
The locked data can be read or processed by one user only. A request for another exclusive lock or for a shared lock is rejected.
    Shared lock
Several users can read the same data at the same time, but as soon as a user edits the data, a second user can no longer access this data. Requests for further shared locks are accepted, even if they are issued by different users, but exclusive locks are rejected.
    Exclusive but not cumulative lock
Exclusive locks can be requested by the same transaction more than once and handled successively, but an exclusive but not cumulative lock can only be requested once by a given transaction. All other lock requests are rejected.
    Cheers!!

  • Satellite L - How to create a recovery disk?

    Hey,
I deinstalled the Programm "Recovery Disc Creator" accidentally. But the Folder with the Win Vista Recovery Disc Informations are still in my Computer. Now i want you to help me in creating a Recovery Disc. My System is very unstable. So i want to re install it. I hope you can help me.

Sorry but why did you uninstall the recovery disk creator?
However, now you can’t create the recovery disk because you have uninstalled the program for creating the disk.
The only way I know is you use the HDD recovery option to reinstall your notebook. You can use this if you go to the advanced boot menu (F8 before Windows is booting), choose repair my computer and then select the Toshiba HDD recovery function.
Normally you get this message if you start your notebook at the first time:

  • How to create os boot disk

    Hi, folks,
I have a white 13" MacBook and a duo core iMac. Both are running Snow Leopard. My laptop has an apparent hard drive problem, and I want to boot it with the CD. My problem: I can't find the darn disk!
So, is there a way I can create an OS disk on my desktop machine and use it to boot the laptop?
    Thanks very much!

Call Apple, give them a nominal handling fee and your unit's serial number.
    They will send you replacements.
In the meantime, you can try to prevent "unfortunate" loss.  If you have not done so, then:
    Download CarbonCopyClone for free
Buy an external, self-powered disk (FireWire800 is 2x as fast as USB)
Make a clone of your startup disk.  It is a bit-by-bit clone, fully bootable.
If your system will live long enough to do that, you will have *something* to recover with if problems get worse before your new install disks arrive.
If the system is simply trying to avoid bad HD sectors, the clone should be usable in a pinch.  Other HD issues *may* make the clone unusable, but at lesst you will be *trying*.
I am not suggesting that the problem not be pursued, just suggesting some "immediate defense" action.

  • How to mount StorageTek 2530 disk to Solaris

I have finished the setting in CAM for StorageTek 2530. How can I mount it to the file system in solaris? Is it possible to expand /export/home directory? Is it possible to concatenate a new RAID 5 from StorageTek 2530 to the original RAID 5 of /export/home?
    Thanks

I got my air disk to mount. A little bit of legwork on my part and found the drive thru looking on my drive and shared folder. Definitely different than tiger.
Here is my new problem. I moved some folders and files from my leopard mbp, but when I mount the same air disk on a mac mini g4 running tiger I can not see any of the folders (besides "shared") or any of their contents. Even the "shared" folder show nothing but empty.
The only thing I did on the leopard machine was customize some of the folder icon styles, gave them more slick looking icons.

  • How to create read only disk image?

I used to be able to create read-only encrypted disk images with Disk Utility in Mac OS 10.4.x (Tiger). In the Leopard version (10.5.7) of Disk Utility, the 'read only' option seems to be gone (but I can still do encryption). Does anyone know how this can be done?

A blank empty read only disk image has never been possible. If it's read-only, it cannot be modified, and so it would be blank and empty forever. Not much point in that.
If you want read-only and encryption on your finished disk image, you'll have to put your files into a folder, and then do File -> New -> Disk image from folder.

  • How to create ASM device disk groups

I have new Oracle unbreakable linux installed. I have Oracle 11g running. Now I'm wanting to install ASM. When going through dbca - there are no available disk groups. When I click on "Create New" - there are no member disks for me to use. Normally these are already created for me by unix admin, but this is home set-up. Appreciate any help.

    Hi,
You need to apply below RPM's and configure the ASMLIB, follow below steps, after the setup install the ASM and then it will show the avaliable disks.
    Required RPM for ASM Configuration
    oracleasm-support-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm
    oracleasm-2.4.21-37.EL-1.0.4-1.i686.rpm
    oracleasmlib-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm
    Configuring ASMLib
Before using ASMLib, you must run a configuration script to prepare the driver. Run the following command as root, and answer the prompts as shown in the example below. Run this on each node in the cluster.
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure
Configuring the Oracle ASM library driver
This will configure the on-boot properties of the Oracle ASM library driver. The following questions will determine whether the driver is loaded on boot and what permissions it will have. The current values
will be shown in brackets ('[]'). Hitting <ENTER> without typing an answer will keep that current value. Ctrl-C will abort.
Default user to own the driver interface []: oracle Default group to own the driver interface []: dba Start Oracle ASM library driver on boot (y/n) [n]: y Fix permissions of Oracle ASM disks on boot (y/n) [y]: y
Writing Oracle ASM library driver configuration: [ OK ] Creating /dev/oracleasm mount point: [ OK ] Loading module "oracleasm": [ OK ] Mounting ASMlib driver filesystem: [ OK ] Scanning system for ASM disks: [ OK ]
Next you tell the ASM driver which disks you want it to use. Oracle recommends that each disk contain a single partition for the entire disk. See Partitioning the Disks at the beginning of this section for an example of creating disk partitions.
You mark disks for use by ASMLib by running the following command as root from one of the cluster nodes, run it from node 1:
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk DISK_NAME device_name
Tip: Enter the DISK_NAME in UPPERCASE letters.
    Ex:
    [root@vmractest1 ASMlib]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdc1
Marking disk "/dev/sdd1" as an ASM disk: [ OK ]
    [root@vmractest1 ASMlib]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL2 /dev/sdd1
Marking disk "/dev/sdd1" as an ASM disk: [ OK ]
    [root@vmractest1 ASMlib]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL3 /dev/sde1
Marking disk "/dev/sde1" as an ASM disk: [ OK ]
Verify that ASMLib has marked the disks:
    [root@vmractest1 ASMlib]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
On all other cluster nodes, run the following command as root to scan for configured ASMLib disks:
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm scandisks
    Ex:
    [root@vmractest2 ASMlib_install]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm scandisks
Scanning system for ASM disks: [ OK ]
    [root@vmractest3 ASMlib_install]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm scandisks
Scanning system for ASM disks: [ OK ]
And then check that everything is as in the first node:
    [root@vmractest2 ASMlib_install]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    [root@vmractest3 ASMlib_install]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
The above steps are clearly explained in the document " http://blogs.oracle.com/content/dav/oracle/mtblog/A/Al/AlejandroVargas/gems/StepbyStepRAConLinux3.pdf " under section *11- Configure ASMlib for ASM Management*
If you still have issues please do let us know.

  • How to add a new disk under solaris.

    Hi there,
One of our sun blade 100 is unbootable due to the bad harddisk and what are the EXACT procedures to replace the new disk? I had some impression we need go through /reconfigure etc but I really not clear the exact procedure. Is this very complicated?
    Thanks

If you are just replacing the disk, the new disk should come in with the same disk ID as the original disk - assuming the disk is internal that is. External disks could show up with a new disk ID depending on how you do it.
You simply need to come up with a restore process.

Creating a Photostream that allows others to add images can be done on my iOS7 devices, but it seems Aperture is missing the option to do it on the Mac. Am I missing something?

    Am I missing something?
No, it is not yet possible to add to the shared streams created with iOS 7.02. You will have to wait for software updates that will make Mac OS X , Aperture, and iPhoto compatible with these new shared Photo Photo Streams. We are not allowed to speculate here, but let's wait and see, what the new MacOS X will bring.
