How to de-authorize a computer that is dead?

When I authorize my computer today, it says I authorized 4 out of 5. However, I forgot to deauthorize those other three machines (which is the same machine but reformat a couple of times and re-install iTunes and authorize). In this case, how do I deauthorize these three machines when I no longer can access the computer because it is dead?

  • HT1420 How do I authorize a computer that I received from my employer to download a song that I have on other Apple devices?

I need to make an iMovie but when I went to download the song that I have to go with it my iTunes says that this computer isnt authorized to download any of my past purchases. When I went to authorize this in my Advanced tab it said that it needed to be deauthorized but I don't know the username or password it was authorized under.  Is there any way around this so I can finish this iMovie for my employer?

You can authorize the computer to your iTunes Store acount via the Store menu in iTunes. You'll find the "Authorize This Computer" command there.
Note, however, that tracks from the iTunes Store are licensed for your personal use only. You cannot use them in any commercial setting, which prohibits them from being used in a movie for your company. For such use you would have to purchase the CD on which the track was issued and then obtain an appropriate commercial-use license from the record company that owns the rights to the track, or whatever rights clearing house the record company uses.

  • How to deactivate on a computer that is dead

My computer died completely. I could not even start it up. I bought a new one and installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 from a .dmg file on had on a backup drive.
Now when I try to activate Elements I am told it is already activated on two computers and I must deactivate it from one of them before I can activate it on my new computer.
I do not know what other computer it is active on and I cannot deactivate it on the dead computer.
What I want to do is deactivate it on both other computers and activate it on my new one.

Yes, activation is tied to the hardware. The only folks who can straighten this out are Activation Support. Go here:
    Activation & Deactivation Help
and scroll down to "Still need help? Contact us," and work your way through the links there. Eventually you will be able to start a chat session and get it taken care of.

Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

If you've got 5 computers authorised for the account in question, and you need to free up authorizations, I'd do a "Deauthorize All" from one of the computers you have access to, and then reauthorize the computers you have access to.
For instructions, see the following document:

You cannot, nor do you need to, until you reach the limit of 5.  Once you reach 5, then you can deauthorize all, and then authorize the active computers.

    Dear
Thank you for replying. It's C from iTunes Customer Support.
Addressing your concern is really important for me. I will do my best to answer your question.
S, if your computer is not currently authorized to play your account's purchases, when you try to play an iTunes Store purchase, the authorization dialog will appear. You will see the name of the account that purchased the item. If you've changed your account name, replace the old account name with the new name, then enter your password and click Authorize. This authorizes your computer to play the account's purchases.
If you are repeatedly asked to authorize your computer to play your purchases, you may find this article helpful:

I do not get an error, I do not even get the authorization dialog. I have sent 2 screen shots, they are attached.
When I try to play an iTunes store purchase, a bubble pops up and states that this computer is not authorized. It does not pop up account name or password. I have also completed everything stated in the http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389  link.
    This is very frustrating.

You can deauthorize all computers linked to your Apple ID from another computer with Internet access.
To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
