How to deactivate restore function of Mail app

     Hello, i have following problems with the mail app in Mac OSX Mountain Lion:
     (also had this problem with Lion)
Some mails of me are restored automatically 100 times under the Library > Mails folders.
They often reach over 200 GB. Even after I delete these messages, they appear later again as
restored message in these folders a serval times.
The pictures that I have stored in the app, "notes" are no longer seen,
but they appear in the subfolders of mail and also restored several times.
     How can I deactivate the restoration of mails ?

oh, and since setting up Apple mail is so easy in mountain lion, with the new Mail, Contacts and Calendars preference, you might just want to delete your mail account prefs, for gmail at least, and start from scratch. i have had 3 gmail accounts for years and i went back into Apple Mail prefs on Mountain Lion and reset some settings according to the above link and now gmail plays nicer with Apple Mail indeed. I have no problems with yahoo mail. i don't think you'll lose your gmail if you totally delete you gmail prefs in Apple Mail and start from scratch.

    If you are accessing emails from multiple devices, you are better off using the IMAP protocol. Then the devices sync with the server and they are all looking at the same information. With POP, you are going to get your emails spread about, some on Outlook, some on the iPad. It could get very confusing.

    I totally reinstalled my Powerbook G4.
    Before I backup my mail by copying the content of
    Library -> Mail -> [email protected]@mail.domain.com -> INBOX.mbx -> Messages
    After the reinstallation, I opened Mail and I created my accounts.
    Then I copyed my backup into the same path of my Mac.
    But all pasted Messages (xx.emlx) are not displayed in the Inbox when I reopened Mail.
    How can I restore those e-mails?

    Hi Pierrot10,
    Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
    In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
    Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
    This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

    My Macbook Pro was recently stolen, and I have replaced it with a Macbook Air. I attempted to simply do a restore from the Macbook Pro's Time Machine backup, but since the new Macbook Air's hard drive is significantly smaller, a Time Machine restore was not possible. I even tried to choose only settings or only my User Profile (option) when restoring, but the backup was still too large to do a restore onto the new machine. How do I restore my more-expensive apps (ie iWorks) onto my new Macbook without repurchasing them? Also, I reaad somewhere that if you went to the Mac App Store and attempted to repurchase the app and clicked BUY, it would simply alert you that you have already purchased the app (and trigger a re-download)... NOT THE CASE... So I just dropped another $19.99 for a second copy of Pages... Not my intention....
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    you should get a usb backup drive as well.  time machine has limited use in my eyes. it saves things. but older things can be errased ad space drops without telling you
    nothing beats data redundancy.  2 saves is. 1.    and 1 is none
    im personally not fond of time machne though i use it only for a recovery parameter for a mac
    id never ever myself consider time machine a genuine data backup tool.  though most do consider it as such
    drive clones such as superduper and carbon copy cloner can clone your entire drive for emergency recovery.  and you can boot from them as well o. another mac

    I was trying to set up an e-mail client on a PC, clicked and unclicked my gmail pop & imap on and off, and when I got home to my Apple MacBook, I had inadvertently reloaded (twice!) every e-mail that I've ever gotten in g-mail to Apple Mail which I use happily at home! No matter what I do, Apple Mail just won't delete the 29,000+ emails. And Mail is hanging, I suspect it just can't handle the massive numbers of e-mails and all the attachments, images, etc.
    So I figure I must start from where I was at last Time Machine backup. I want to restore everything about Apple Mail as of my last backup -- all the same folders, saved mail, preferences, etc. How do I restore just Apple Mail but nothing else? Thanks!

    I've never done that, and don't think I've seen any similar posts here. You might want to look in the Mail and Address Book forum at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223
    Take a look on your system at +<your home folder>/Library/Mail.+ (List view is probably best for this).
    You'll see a number of folders for accounts and mailboxes. There are separate folders for each account, and within them for various mailboxes, plus folders for "on my Mac" mailboxes.
    With Mail off, of course, I think you should be able to restore either the entire Mail folder, or selected sub-folders within it, via Finder > Time Machine.
    After you do that, you may need to use the +Mail > Mailboxes > Rebuild+ option in Mail.
    (Do not use the specialized Mail > Time Machine +Recover your <named> Mailbox+ option there, as it will leave the current contents alone, and restore the messages to a new "restored" mailbox.)
    Let us know if this helps or hurts.

    FYI: At that time I was using iPad 1 and the OS was still 3.1.x. Now I am using iPhone 4 and would like to restore the apps at least those that are compatible to my phone.

    I can't think of anything more idiotic than invoking the memory of Jobs here. Are you truly unaware that the iPad and iOS is pretty much exactly the way he wanted it to be, just like about everything else Apple?
    As to your claim of "previous email applications", certainly none in iOS ever did that, and the only folders you can create and manipulate in POP accounts are those local to only that single machine or platform, not particularly helpful or desirable in today's environments.

    There is no "AOL mail app that comes with iOs."  The iOS Mail App can't be deleted.  Is your phone jailbroken?

    I just upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6, now that there is a version of PGPMail which works with Mail 4.0. The new Mail.app is showing a "Notes" item, which I've never seen before, and which I don't want. Call me strange, but I use Mail for email, not as a notepad.
    I've found several hints telling how to make Mail.app store them on the local hard drive instead of in an IMAP account, but nothing I've done is making that "Reminders > Notes" item in the folder list go away. Again, I don't want to see it at all.
    I was able to delete the one RSS feed they insist on subscribing me to, and that made the RSS group go away. Is it possible to just turn off the "Notes" functionality entirely? It's a feature I don't want, I won't use, and to be honest I don't understand why Apple added it to Mail.app to begin with.

    No, Default iOS Apps cannot be removed. You can however remove the account from Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars so the Mail app no longer fetches your email and as such no longer beeps when there is mail.

    Am I missing something incredibly obvious about App Store?
    I want to find all add-ons -- worktogethers for mail.app.  How?
    Example:   I found a product called MessageFont which may have a similar function to the one I am seeking.  Its web page is marked "Available on App Store". Sure, I can find Messagefont on App Store, either by overall search, or alphabetical arrangement of Productivity Apps.    So, I guess that the app I'm seeking MIGHT also be in this category.  But there are currently 3065 other apps in that category.   Does the Search box at upper left apply to the currently visible selection?  Maybe, sort of.  But searching for "mail.app" or "mail" don't seem to do what I want.  Searching for "apple mail" returns only 7 hits, including my example, MessageFont, but the hits also include OS X Server, and b) It seems unlikely there are only 5 additional add-ons -- worktogethers for mail.app.
    Bonus question:  What I'm looking for is a utility that makes it easier to reply to formatted email messages in mail.app, by making visible --and prefereably, supporting removal of-- block structures.   It seems that block structures (e.g. blockquotes, perhaps others) interfere with opening vertical space into which  interspersed reply text can be entered.

    To what are you referring when you ask about "add-ons to Premiere 13" (assumed you mean Adobe Premiere Element 13)? On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
    Premiere Elements has not come with a Content Disc or offered Content download from an Adobe web site since Premiere Elements 10.
    If "add-ons" to you mean Content download...DVD Templates, Movie Themes, Clip Art, etc....then most of that is going to come from downloading
    Content from within the opened project. There is a limited amount of content that comes complete as part of the installation.

    sorry for my delay.
    You mean that you found the folders in your Library/Mail/etc...  ??
    Strange that you have the messages there and not in your Mail program. It is clear a matter of a database corrupted.  Inside Mail there is a command Rebuild. this should do the job but there is a risk of a demage to the present Mail.  Of course you can explore each single file in the librari folder but you see they are down in a comples structure and you may not find everithing.
    I am not so expert to give you a safe suggetion.
    Before tryoing a rebuilt I would do as follows to be more safe about the possible result.
    Create a new user Account in your Mac and copy your complete Mail folder into the Library of the new account.
    Then try the rebuild option in the new user account and see what happens. You today mail system will not be affected and you can decide what to do.
    To postpone a rebuilt can be an option but if you have a demaged database and you se you can live with the result of a rebuild in the "test" account I would rebuild also your.
    For some reason before doing any action I wouyld repair the permission and also check the HD to be sure you do not have any write-read problem.
    Let me know if it works.

    Then I usually do the actual login username and password for the organizational account.
