How to deal with those pesky touchpad buttons

The Pavilion series laptops are really well made in a lot of respects.  I have owned my DV5t for almost 4 years now and I've been quite happy with it (except for rather anemic battery life).  There is one thing that became a nasty problem for me, that being the left touchpad button.  It is the most commonly used touchpad button and unfortunately these buttons were not well designed.  They can easily break after a certain number of hits, whereby there's no longer any spring to it.  Pressing the button ends up getting double-taps like mad.  Also, the silver coating on them tends to wear away, looking rather unsightly over time. Once you start seeing the black plastic beneath, it won't be long before the button breaks.  It's really a shame, because these tactile feel buttons work well--they just don't last.  The newer HP laptops have those "lite touch" buttons which I do not like.  The tactile feel is so much better.  Unfortunately, it seems like most laptop makers are going with those solid state buttons to avoid another component that might go wrong.  It's a shame, because with just a little more effort they could have been designed to last a very long time.
As of this writing, I have now gone through TWO of these touchpads.  How did I manage to get another two chances?  Well, they can be replaced but unfortunately they require you to disassemble more than half of the laptop.  You see, the touchpad is integrated into the palm bezel, and the palm bezel is a piece of plastic coated metal that runs all the way to the back of the laptop.  To get at it requires about an hour of taking the laptop apart.  It's not for the faint of heart either.  However, there is a service manual available that shows you what to do and I was able to follow it... thrice.  Yes, the first button wore out after just under 2 years.  The second one held up about as long.  I use the touchpad buttons frequently, so... well, needless to say, now that I've got the 3rd bezel in place, I am going to rely mostly on an external mouse.  And when I have to use the touchpad, I am going to use it very carefully, not exerting too much pressure (note that you can also tap the touchpad itself for a single click, something good to get into the habit of doing).  Additionally, I'm going to put a sheet of protector plastic on the left mouse button to help avoid wearing out the surface.
So... one hour to disassemble it and a little more than an hour to reassemble it.  It looked daunting to do at first, but believe me if you're patient and can follow instructions it is definitely doable.  You don't need to be an HP tech to do it.
As for the parts, I obtained them from eBay.  Apparently there are a lot of excellent condition used parts available from a variety of sources.  I got the bezel for just under $30 shipped.  Also, the speaker grille part is metal and tends to dent, so this time around I replaced it as well as the keyboard (the original was fine, but just a little touchy on one or two keys).  With all 3 of these parts replaced, my laptop feels like new all over again.  As for obtaining parts, you'll need to do your homework with the HP parts finder.  There are many variants of the Pavilion laptop models with many parts in common, so the part you need can vary by number.  The parts catalog can help you find them.
Anyway, that's about it.  After having done this for the 3rd time, I figured there might be others out there with this problem on the brink of tossing out the laptop or selling it for parts on the cheap.  It's salvageable!
"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more possibilities."

Thank you for your information and support. I may have to replace my touch pad and keyboard and you have given me hope and confidence. Thank you again,

  • How to deal with generated programs in eCATT SAPGUI recording?

    Hi experts and professionals,
I am trying to automate testing of our solutions by eCATTs and so far i have not been able to find solution for following problem.
Whole test scenario is very simple:
Check InfoProvider data (query, lookup, listcube,...)
    Create DAP on InfoProvider
    Archive InfoProvider
Check InfoProvider data (query, lookup, listcube,...)  again
Compare results from step 1. and 4. (must match)
    Reload archived data
Check InfoProvider data (query, lookup, listcube,...)  again
Compare results from step 1. and 7. (must match)
As you can see, one of the required test steps is to check InfoProvider's data in transaction LISTCUBE.
But transaction LISTCUBE generates its program "name" every time it is executed and
I am struggling to find a way how to deal with these generated programs in eCATT SAPGUI recording.
Key is that solution must be generic and work for all SAP BW releases from 7.0 upwards
(having in mind that LISTCUBE can read NLS data from SAP BW 7.3 release).
    Error description from eCATT log:
Screen Check Error: Expected Transaction: LISTCUBE, Actual Transaction: LISTCUBE.
Expected Program: GP0KOZE7EFIUBN10MZUFWX90W80, Actual Program: GPBP24INA6VV77SL0XKU5NA642O.
Expected Screen Number: 1000, Actual Screen Number: 1000.
There Is Probably an Error in SAPGUI recording.
    ExceptionClass:CX_ECATT_APL_CAPTURE  ExceptionId:SCREEN_CHECK_ERROR
    RaisingClass:CL_APL_ECATT_LINE_INTERPRETER  Include:CL_APL_ECATT_LINE_INTERPRETER=CM00J  Line:443
Is there any way how to avoid program check in eCATT script?
Anything that would help me to find solution will be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Igor

    Dear Igor,
Your issue is caused by the "screen check" which eCATT processes here.
In General this screen check is a very usefull activity, since is ensures that only those screens are processed by automation, which initially where recorded. This should ensure as much as possible to invoke only intended activities.
Remember, that the driver of the screen flow is still the automated transaction program ( but not the test tool). So application logic decides which screen is send next.
Using screen check the test tool tries to ensure that menu items and buttons and other activities are only automated when the tool "believes" to work on the intended screen.
For generic test scripts and often in context of generated programs the screen check might hurt a bit.
To overcome this, one might try to make the check dynamic (as Sheetal suggests correctly).
If here the name of program cannot be determined for any reason, one can use another method and do following:
    - Change the value of ProcessedScreen-Active to 'R'
This will disable/skip the screen-check for this ProcessedScreen.
Sure the solution includes a certain risk, since not checking the correct screen to appear might lead to automation of actions with not desired impact.
Maybe this can improve your solution.
    Kind Regards
    Jens

  • How to deal with deadlock on wwv_flow_data table when http server times out

There are some threads about a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table. None of them contain a real explanation for this behaviour. In my case I will try to explain what I think is happening. Maybe it helps somebody who is hitting the same matter.
In my case with APEX 3.2.1 I am navigating from one page to another. Doing this APEX will lock the table wwv_flow_data. As soon as the other page is shown the lock will be released. But now this other page contains a bad performing query (standaard report region). After 5 minutes the http server (modplsql) will time out and present the message "No response from the application server" on the screen. In the meanwhile the query is still running on the database server and the lock stays on the wwv_flow_data table.
Normal user behaviour will be that the user will use the back button to return to the previous page and tries it again to navigate to the other page or
the user will try to refresh the page with the bad performing query.
And voila now you will have a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table since a second session is trying to do the same thing while the first hasn't finished yet.
    How to deal with it?
First of all. Have a good look at the bad performing query. Maybe you can improve it that it will succeed before the http server will timeout.
In my case the 11gr1 optimizer couldn't handle a subquery factoring clause in the best way. After changing it back to a classical inline query the problem was solved.
Secondly you could increase the timeout parameter of the http server. Although this not the best way.
Maybe it would better if APEX in a next version would release the lock on the table wwv_flow_date earlier or do a rollback just before the moment that the http server is timing out.

    Hello Shmoove,
I saw your reply here and you probably understand the problems the HTTP 100 response may cause.
I am trying to send image that was taken by getSnapshot. The problem is that the server respond with this HTTP 100 message.
I suspect that the reason that my server doesn't recognize the file that I'm sending from J2me is that the "server to client" response to the 100 message comes after the second message of (see what the TCPIP viewer shows down here):

  • Organizational unit transfers ,how to deal with the person in it ?

    Hi,All,I need your help!
if an organizational unit has been transfered to another upper organizational unit ,and there are already persons assigned to different positions of it,so how to deal with this problem?are those person's IT 0000,0001should be changed too?and how to maintain this kind of change?is a personnel action necessary?or there is some other more efficient way for it?

    Hi
In IT0001 You have a Position which is linked to a Org unit. If you want to change the org units reporting relationship then you have to change it in OM by creating a new relationship with the upper org unit.
All the person are assigned to position so nothing needs to be done in  PA.
    Reward points if useful.

  • How to deal with moving around like in gta2?

    Hi there,
I'm programming an game but i was wondering how to deal with moving around like in gta2.
my game is also top-down with you(tha player) constantly in the middle of the screen. I know how to deal with button press etc.. but how to calculate how manny pixels the map has to move in the x and y axis...
It's difficult to explain for me.. but hope the picture is clear..
    greetings

I was afraid for this one already.. the picture is not clear:) thanx for your response so far.. I will try again.. with the game gta2 in mind:)
    see this screenie: http://www.vollversion.de/bilder/705_1_full.jpg
My game looks the same as gta2 top down... with the character in the middle of the screen(the one firing the flame thwower )(the player). if i press up he walks towards the police car.. if i press left or right.. he only turns around(an combination of pressing up and left is also posible) thus the character walks in the direction he's facing.
Now i would like to know how did they do this? how to programm such a movement? Because the character is standing constnatly in the middle of the screen the map has to move like in almost every game... how to calculate the x and y axis movement of the map?
Please.. try agian.. hopefully the screenie will help.

  • How to deal with validation errors from DAO layer.

I have been pondering on how to deal with validation errors from DAO layer.
Lets say you have a DAO that can save a car object. A car has a year, make, model, vin and so on. During the save operation of this DAO, it validates the car attributes to see if they pass some business rules. If it does not it throws some validation exception that contains all the validation errors. These validation errors know nothing about jsf or my components it just knows what attributes on the object are invalid and why.
If I just want to show those errors at the top of the page that would be no problem I could just create some FacesMessage objects and add them to the FacesContext messages. But if the DAO layer is telling me that the make attribute is invalid it would be nice to map it to the make field on the screen. I am wondering if any of you have tackled this problem or have some ideas on how to tackle it?
    Brian

Let it throw an exception with a self explaining message, then catch it and embed that message in a FacesMessage.
Or let it throw more specific exception types (InvalidCarMakeException extends CarDAOException and so on) and let JSF handle it with own FacesMessage message.

  • How to deal with files ?!!!!

hiii, guys i dont believe that a huge program like flash with
all these abilities doesnt deal easily with files !!! I just want
to do simple reading and writing to text files. Something veryyyyyy
simple like writing a name and reading it again later
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know how to load them by using loadVariable()
,,, but how can i write to the file ?!! it's really annoying if i
have to use asp scripting or xml or ... to do such easy job !!! i'm
facing difficulties because i know ActionScript and VB and C++
only,,, I dont know how to deal with asp and xml !!! @_@
But, if this is the only way to do this, plz tell me in steps
how to write a name and read it again in flash, THANX

If you are sticking to those three languages and you have
Flash CS3, you may want to consider publishing to an AIR
application. Adobe's done a lot of work to keep the security tight
on Flash Player which is one (if not the only... not sure) reason
that you cannot do this with Flash alone. You would have to use a
server-side script to accomplish what you want with Flash Player.
Here is a tutorial on an AIR app that writes to txt files:

  • How to deal with user session when power goes off

    Hi
    All,
One day I had 170 oracle session connected on oracle database server and and suddenly electricity went off. but server was still running. and after power back on ther same bunch of user try to connect it.So I don't know what happen to those 170 session. does anybody know how to deal with this? I did shutdown and restart of database but I am not sure that is correct way to deal with this kind of situation.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

If the database server is still running, the sessions will remain there, but it depends on how they got connected to the server. If they got access through a middle tier which maintains the session and this MT is still running the sessions will still be visible from the database perspective, unless the MT handles the disconnection event.
If the sessions are working on a Client-Server basis, then PMON will mark the sessions as abruptly broken and it will get rid of them. Sessions may eventually remain hanged, but it depends on the topology, so the way you proceed was a clean database restart.

  • How to deal with images when detecting/resizing screen?

    Hi there,
I am trying to learn how to detect screen resolution and
resize a flash movie to those dimensions. The one thing I'm
wondering first is, how to deal with images in the movie.
Do I need a variety of different movie sizes that I serve up
depending on the resolution, or is there some way of linking to
higher rez image that can be scaled down to fit the screen?
    Thanks!

as far as I know this has always been a bit of an issue when
    using
images inside a scaled movie. If you display a high res image
    inside a
scaled down movie, flash can't "reoptimize" it so the image
    looks
jagged. Of course the other way around is even worse..
Serving images based on the screen res could be possible if
    you detect
it using javascript but could be a night mare to maintain and
    test it...
I guess the questions I would ask myselkf are:
    1. what is my audience? What resolution the majority of them
    will have?
    2. Is there anyway I can keep the image size fixed, and scale
    to fit he
    rest of the design?
    3. How much time do I have to implement the customized
    version?
It really depends on your project..but to answer to your
    quuestion yes
    you can detect.
    http://www.pageresource.com/jscript/jscreen.htm
and your flash will have to interpret and load images from
    different
directories based on the var passed

  • Can anyone give me advice on how to deal with a corrupted itunes movie rental?

Can anyone give me advice on how to deal with a corrupted itunes movie rental? I tried to download a movie and have been continuously trying to download it through the "check for available downloads" option, but it will not download.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not downloading properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

If you change the existing tax code, all the open POs with the old tax rate will be changed to the new rate. So. if any of your vendor gives an invoice with reference to an open PO with old tax rate (Invoice raised before tax rate change and received at your place after tax rate change) you will not be able to make the GR due to tax rate difference. So, before changing the tax rate, make sure that there is no old invoice pending to do GR or IR and also there is no material in transit.
If you are creating a new tax code, you can create new POs and receive the material based on that POs. If any material received against the old POs you can post with old tax rates. But, discuss with your FI person of there is any issues regarding statutory requirements with Excise / Tax authorities.

First off, I'm not native english speaker.
I have Nvidia GeForce 550 Ti video card, and its support OpenCL v1.1.

Then, I switch GPU back to normal status (core running at 900Mhz)

Nowadays, most of new GPUs were support power-saving, but when sniffer_gpu running at GPU power-saving state, the OpenCL computing report maybe "time-out", cause the detector "guess" the GPU does not support OpenCL. This is why many people says "OpenCL" sometimes work, sometimes grey-out.
I hope this bug can be fixed, or at least people can understand how to "enable OpenCL everytime when you launch photoshop".
