How to debug Captivate 6 SWF freezing?

I have a SCORM package created with Captivate 6.  During our first pilot with 40 participants, it performed perfectly.  During our second pilot, about 10% experienced a random freeze issue.  Luckily, I had the table of contents on, so I just had them skip the section that was freezing.
Any times on how to start debugging the freezing issue?  It seems to occur randomly, at different places in the CBT.
Micky

Hi Micky,
Can you check with second pilot, if it freezes randomly when you play it on local machine.
If it works fine, Can you check with your LMS, as they should have some logs and can compare and isolate a cuase, if possible.
If it does not play fine locally, try republishing and uploading again to LMS.
Does the freeze occur while skipping or working on Quiz Slides?
Thanks,

  • How to publish Captivate (swf) projects for free

    Hi Cap Users,
This is not really a question, more of a handy tip.
When I first started using Captivate I tried to find places where I could publish my projects for free. I've also seen lots of posts by instructional designers and students who want to get their projects 'out there' for little or no cost.
Here's a short vid that shows you how to publish .swf projects via Weebly.com. You'll need to create a weebly website first. It's all free and the the site builder elements are drag and drop, so you can have a simple site in place within minutes.
Weebly isn't set up for HTML5 as yet, but I'm sure that won't be far away.
Click this link to see a demonstration - saving your Cap file, uploading and publishing it.
    Happy publishing!

Ok, then I Publish the folio in folio producer like Public and Free and that's all, it's ok? Then when I want to sell this folio, back to the folio producer, change to Public and Minorist and in the Android Market build the in-app product, it's ok?
    PD: sorry for my english

  • How to debug multiple swf

I am developing an application that has and Login Form( first swf ). On successful Login, I am showing the main application ( second swf ).
I need to debug the second swf (the main application). Can anyone please tell me, how to do that?
The second swf (main application) is dependent upon the first swf (Login form) as it creates session. So I cant run/debug the second swf independently.

If your main app is the second SWF and you cannot easily debug it, in this case because is perhaps is loaded by the login SWF, then I would suggest rethinking the architecture to a degree.
Modules are great, but maybe just have a login component that the main app uses. Much simpler.
If this post answers your question or helps, please mark it as such.

  • How to create a flash menu that links to specific slides with in a Captivate swf

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could step by step explain how to
create a menu in flash that links to specific slides with in a

    Hi!
I would like to create a DVD menu that offers two languages. So the first page gives two options: Language 1 and Language 2. Then depending on which language you choose, you go to a menu that proposes different videos and a photo slideshow.
Regardless on which language button you click on initially, you get the same content but in different languages.
I've been looking at Premiere's templates, which I can certainly customize, but I really don't see how to create the double menu. Does anybody have an idea?
Put the video with the first language on the timeline followed by the video with the second language.  Use chapter markers so you can have each video as a chapter in the menu.
I use Premiere Pro, so I can't give more specific directions. Perhaps somebody like ATR will chime in.
Also, I have another question: can I put videos from different projects in the same DVD with Premiere or must all of the videos that go into the DVD be in the same project?
    Thank you very much!!!

They must be in the same project.

  • How to debug swf file

    Hi,
Is there any way to debug the swf file? i am having a swf which is running on different server. i want to debug it from my system. Please let me know if anyone have the solution to debug the swf.
    Thanks
    Thilsen.

I cannot use firefox since the swf is running in different server.
    that's not correct.
And integrated with .net application and ruuing in different devices.
makes no difference.  unless it's an air app or exe, it runs in ff.
I used to trace but the problem is some times my swf (having multiple scnes) got stuck with unknow reason. Based on the variables which am getting from .net application am navaigating the scnenes.
trace still can pinpoint the problem.

  • Controlling Embedded Captivate SWFs

    Hi:
    I have a SWF (SWF A) that I'm loading into a movieclip
(Movieclip C)which is part of another SWF (SWF B). Basically, SWF B
functions as a player, with play and pause controls. These controls
control Movieclip C where the external SWF A is loaded into.
Normally, I have had no problem with this and it always
works. At run time, when you click the pause button on SWF B, a
stop() command is issued to Movieclip C, which stops the play of
the external movieclip (SWF A) loaded into it.
However, I did a screen capture with Captivate and published
it as a SWF. I loaded this SWF (SWF A) into Movieclip C in SWF B at
run time. However, clicking the controls on SWF I created has NO
EFFECT on the SWF I created in Captivate. It just keeps playing.
I guess all SWFs are NOT created equal. How can I make this
    work?
By the way, I do not want to use the embedded controls that
    come with Captivate.

I'll bet it does have an effect, but you just don't see the
    effect
    you're expecting.
    > It just keeps playing.
    > I guess all SWFs are NOT created equal. How can I
    > make this work?
A SWF is a SWF is a SWF. They are all created equal, from a
    certain
point of view. Flash Paper SWFs are just SWFs, at bottom,
    even though they
have additional functionality. Captivate SWFs are also just
    SWFs -- which
means they must adhere to the MovieClip class, all of whose
    methods,
properties, and events are listed in the "MovieClip class"
    entry of the
    ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference.
It may be that Captivate nests its SWFs, so that you need to
    adjust your
target when telling a given movie clip container what to do.
    Would you show
    the exact ActionScript you're using?

  • Connect Sync not working with Captivate SWF files

    HI
I'm creating material for presentations and discussion in Captivate 8 and using Connect 9.3.
The Sync button in Connect doesn't turn on or off the sync view for all participants for a presentation sharing the Captivate SWF file....
Any ideas on how to get the sync feature working?
PS: I'm using Captivate to create the slides and publish to SWF in order to preserve the fonts for the brand. Uploading Powerpoint changes the fonts to system defaults (looks very bad) and PDF, provides a clunky or abrupt slide transitions (using captivate fade transitions). Would prefer a better solution to maintain fonts and transitions though.
    Cheers,
    Fred

    Going to give a try...
I did try saving each slide as an image from ppt, then created a new slide deck with one image per slide - added transitions and uploaded to Connect. That seemed to work.... yet, really would like to sort out Captivate as I plan on adding quizzes and other items best done with Captivate.
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • Why do scaled and masked captivate swfs respond to clicks outside the mask? Can it be stopped?

We load Captivate 3 SWFs at runtime into our own course player, with movieclip.loadmovie. Our player is built with AS2 and published to Flash 8. We publish our Captivate movies to the same specs. Our latest challenge requires scaling and masking the Captivate SWF.
A click outside the masked Captivate still triggers a click as far as Captivate is concerned, and it throws up a “that’s incorrect” message. Specifically, it only happens when you click in a spot that has masked Captivate “behind” it. In other words, if there would be Captivate there if the mask was turned off, Captivate will respond even when the mask is turned on.
Is there a way to make Captivate ignore mouse clicks outside of the mask? I think it must be responding to Mouse.onMouseDown() since normally a masked object won’t respond to clicks outside the mask.
I’ve put together a small test file to demonstrate exactly what’s happening, and I’ve posted it here: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/captivatemasktest.swf
I’ve also uploaded the .fla file. It’s ony 50kb and it’s available here: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/MaskTest01.fla
You’ll also need the Captivate .swf file if you want to test locally. Here’s the direct link. Right-click and save target as: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/DisplayProperties.swf
My question is "how do I make Captivate ignore clicks outside the mask?"
    Many thanks,
    Todd S

Even if anyone just has any knowledge of how Captivate 3 movies actually monitor the mouse, I'd be happy to hear it. In other words, can anyone confirm my hunch? If we knew the internal structure of the Captivate SWF would it be possible to clear and restore some function as the mouse moves inside or outside of the target area? Something like this:
    on mousemove {
         if mouse has crossed boundary to the outside {
              functionBuffer = container.whatever.whatever.function;
              container.whatever.whatever.function = null;
         else if mouse has cross boundary to the inside {
              container.whatever.whatever.function = functionBuffer;
This would kill Captivate's mouse functions and then bring them back to life, as the mouse exits and re-enters the masked Captivate area. Two questions:
    1. If we knew the necessary whatever.whatever.function information, would this work?
    2. Does anybody know the necessary whatever.whatever.function information?

  • Captivate SWF Quality Poor in Presenter 7.0

    Hi,
My company recently purchased Presenter 6 to run on
PowerPoint 2003, which was great - we were able to produce some
really high quality content by incorporating screenshots, clip-art,
    Flash animations and Captivate movies.
Then the dreaded upgrades began. We move to PowerPoint 2007
and were forced to upgrade to Presenter 7.0, which at the time
didn't seem like a big deal. However, since upgrading I've noticed
that graphics and in particular Captivate SWFs displayed in the
Presenter output are of a pretty low quality. I've set the image
setting to High in Presenter but it makes no difference.
I'm pretty sure it's not Captivate because the SWF output
looks perfectly good if played on its own directly in a web
    browser.
Has anybody out there noticed this with Presenter 7 and if
so, have you got any idea why it happens and what I can do to fix
    it?
    Thanks,
    Alex Samson

There is no reason that Captivate swf that played fine on
Presenter6/PowerPoint2003 should show up in degraded quality in
    Presenter7/PowerPoint2007.
The image quality settings won't change anything in the
    Captivate swf.
My best guess would be that the Captivate swf contains some
screenshots and the size of the flash object inserted into the
slide is not letting flash player draw the image properly.
Try adjusting the size of the flash object that gets inserted
into the slide to be same as how it appeared in
    P6/Office2003.

  • How to debug a runtime stack underflow error?

I'm really struggling to resolve a stack underflow that I'm getting.  The traceback I get at runtime is:
VerifyError: Error #1024: Stack underflow occurred.
    at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()
    at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()
    at flash.net::URLLoader/onComplete()
This is particularly difficult to debug because when I run in debug mode it does not happen at all.  It only happens when compiled as a release.
Does anyone have any tips on how to debug a Stack Underflow?  Are have a clean explanation of what that means for Flash?
In case it helps, this error is occurring when I click a button whose handler makes an RPC call, which uses a URLLoader, an AsyncToken, and then invokes the set of AsyncResponder instances associated with the AsyncToken.  With some server-side logging as well as some logging hacked into the swf, I know that the UrlLoader is successfully doing and GET'ing a crossdomain.xml file, is correctly processing it (if I wreck it, I get a security error), and is also successfully completing the "load" request (the server sends the data)... the underflow seems to be happening in the Event.COMPLETE listening/handling process (as is, of course, implied by the traceback as well).
    mxmlc used = from flex_sdk_4.5.0.20967
    Example player (I've tried a few) = 10.2.153.1

Yes... I intended to say so here but didn't get to it yet.  View traffic was extremely low here and I thought I'd see how stackoverflow compared.  I tend to check there first for most languages usually, but thought I'd try here as well to see if I should break that habit.
As per the SO post, my specific problem was resolved by switching my variable initialization routine from the "initialize" application event, to the onCompletion event.  Although I am obviously "happy" about this since this issue cost me a lot of time and hair, it does not really indicate how I would go about debugging such an internal error in the future, so the question is technically unanswered.
As to the question from Flex harUI, I am compiling indirectly via the MXMLC in the SDK, through the Amethyst Visual Studio plugin (which I'm auditioning).  The only libraries involved are from the flex_sdk_4.5.0.20967 SDK.  The project is quite small (a test project), consisting only of 1 MXML file and 2x .AS files.

  • You cannot debug this SWF because it does not contain ActionScript

Im working with flash, everything is good. I've exported my movie it works fine. But i fell its a little fast.
So i go to drop the frame rate from default 12 to 8 just to see how it looks. I play it and i like it. Next thing i know when i go to hit 'share' to export the movie again the button is replaced by 'Debug'. I go into it and hit 'Debug Movie' then thats when i get the message "You cannot debug this SWF because it does not contain ActionScript".
Now if i start any new projects or open any exsisting ones it still has this debug thing going on.
How do i fix it and get it back to normal so i can export videos?
    Thanks

I have exactly the same problem. AS3 just seems not to be
compiled/interpreted at all. With a very simple 'trace' line as
mentioned in previous posts, you just need to click on the 'check
code' button and you will got the error saying that your code
contains error (of course the same experience works just fine on a
working CS3 installation on another computer).
So far I have been through several install/uninstall
processes without any change. It looks like Flash does not found
    needed components/libs for compiling/interpreting AS3 code... Error
messages that all of us have seen are just kind of side effects of
    the real problem.
Is there a way to initiate and access flash log files/system
error events/dll load tracer where we would be able to see what
flash is looking for and obviously it does not find
    (files/libs/whatever)?!
In my case, I'm running CS3 on windows XP Pro SP2 installed
on e: (not c: ... which may be also something to consider)
... very very annoying to waste time that way... and I guess
it will be worst once we will have confirmation that this is just a
misunderstood or broken path to a lib file... usually the stranger
is the effect, the stupidest is the reason...
sorry no solution here, just another name in the
    stack.

  • Controlling an AS3 Captivate swf from Flex -- set quiz preferences

    Hi All,
I'm able to use the SWFLoader to load the a Captivate.swf, and play it using the nextSlide, previousSlide etc.  However I am being blocked by the quizzes.
I have access to all the rd* and cp* symbols.   I would like to navigate through all the slides, but if I have a quiz, I am blocked from 'rdcmndNextSlide'  or setting 'rdcmndGotoSlide'  past the quiz.  Does anyone know if this can be done?  Please help!

    DaddyDog,
Have you checked your Quiz Settings in preferences for your Cp4 project?  There are two options to allow backward movement and to allow reviewing of the quiz.  You may want to try adjusting these.
When you say you've been successful using the "nextSlide, previousSlide etc.", do you mean the buttons on the Cp playbar?
One trick that has helped me greatly is obtaining and modifying the movie xml.  The movie xml is generated at runtime and defines the slides, slide objects, quiz settings, quiz slides... etc.  You may want to examine this to see if you can manipulate it to your advantage.  Here's how I can reference it from an AS3 Cp4 widget:
    var mainmov:MovieClip = MovieClip(root);
    var movXML:XML = new XML(mainmov.movieXML);
Not sure how you have your Flex app loading the captivate swf, but I'm sure you could figure out how to reference the movieXML from another parent in your app.

how to config the hot deploy?
thxSorry, for this delay in responding. I had set notify me with email option in Watch This topic; but I never did get any email notification.
I use wls6.1; I think the process may be very similar to this in wls8.x. In wls6.1 (sp5), this is done via the -
    Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False or
    Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=True
in the startup cmd/sh script. Out of the box, wls6.1 is set to Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False which automatically enables hot deploys.

  • How To: Debug missing Drivers in MDT

The definitive post on missing drivers in MDT (most comprehensive list I've done so far)…
Please to NOT post questions from this thread, instead create a new thread.
How to debug Network Driver Problems
One of the earliest hurdles an MDT administrator will come across is the management of device drivers, specifically networking drivers. With most other drivers, like Audio, printer, and video drivers, a quick call to Windows Update or install over the network
will resolve the Installation. However unless the Network (and storage) Drivers are installed into Windows from the start, it will be much more difficult to install the rest of the system.
This post should help you get started if you find a machine that did not install a device driver properly, and you want to know how to find and import the correct drivers.
    Installing network drivers in the
    full OS
Step 1 - Try network connection again
It's possible that you might get a DHCP error from MDT, but when you try again later to connect the Deployment Share it works! This may be caused by a slow or malfunctioning DHCP server in your network. Re-check your DHCP servers, ensure that PortFast is enabled
on your routers. If all else fails get your network administrators to document the DHCP delay. A long delay in modern networks is unnecessary.
    Step 2 - Verify connectivity
You may not have a driver problem but a network problem. Check the physical connection on the computer (Network installs on MDT *REQUIRE* a wired network connection, no Wi-Fi). Open a web browser. Check the IP Address (ipconfig.exe /all). Ping the Deployment
Server, manually connect to the Deployment Share. IF you can't connect to the Deployment Share, neither can MDT.
Step 3 - Find the Correct Driver Package
Before you load the driver into MDT, first verify that you have the correct driver. There are scenarios where you may *think* you have the correct driver, but the driver will never run because the package is designed for a different OS/SKU/Platform/whatever.
    Install the driver package by:
      ○ Open the Device Manager (devmgmt.msc).
      ○ Find the network device in the list (ensure this is the wired device, not the wireless device)
      ○ Right click on "Properties" and click on the "Details" tab.
      ○ From the "Details" tab, select the property "Hardware Ids" select all the values, and copy to the clipboard, it would be a good idea to save for later. Should look something like:
          PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_21F317AA&REV_04
          PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_21F317AA
          PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&CC_020000
          PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&CC_0200
      ○ From the "Driver" tab, click on "Update Driver…", click on "Browse my computer for driver software" locate the driver package on the local machine or USB Drive, and install the package.
      ○ You should get a confirmation that the driver package was installed.
      ○ IF you do not get confirmation, MDT driver installation may not work.
Windows will install the driver starting with the *.inf install package, and will typically include a *.sys (binary) and a *.cat (digital Signature). If the driver package has been re-packaged into a *.cab, *.zip, or other compressed *.exe file, the
package must be extracted first. This is a hard requirement for any driver used by MDT and/or SCCM. All driver packages that are signed by Microsoft (WHQL) will be installed from the *.inf file, and you should only use devices that have the Microsoft WHQL
Logo as a sign of quality.
If you need a help on where to find driver packages for your devices, the 3 largest Computer OEM manufacturers supply drivers grouped by Make and Model that are easily imported into MDT and SCCM. See:
    http://deploymentbunny.com/2014/07/08/back-to-basicwhere-to-find-drivers-for-servers-and-clients/
Step 4 - Load driver into MDT
If you have more than 20 driver packages, or if you anticipate you will have more than 20 drivers, you should start grouping your drivers in sub-folders for organization. One popular method is to group by Computer Make and Model. Ensure that you are using the
correct Driver Selection Profile in your task sequence. If you are unsure, disable any selection profile(s) to ensure the driver is installed correctly.
Step 5 - Run the full MDT installation
During installation MDT will perform the following:
      ○ Run the PNPEnum.exe utility and capture output to PnPEnum.xml. The VEN_Xxxx and DEV_Yyyy from the "HardwareIDs" property above must be present in this list. Otherwise we won't have a match.
      ○ Search through the %DeployRoot%\control\drivers.xml file looking for a match for the HardwareID. MDT may filter the search based on the folder search type.
      ○ MDT will copy each matching driver to the local c:\drivers directory using the xcopy.exe command. You can search (grep) for the string "xcopy" in the ZTIDrivers.log file, that will get you list of all driver packages matched by MDT.
      ○ MDT will allow the machine to boot into the NEW OS, and Driver Installation will begin in the OS. IF there are multiple drivers found and copied locally, the Windows (not MDT) will determine the best one. The c:\windows\inf\SetupAPI.*.log files
will detail which drivers copied locally were installed (or *not* installed).
    Installing Network Drivers in
    WinPE
Step 6 - Try the network connection again
    (See above
Step 7 - Verify Connectivity from within WinPE
Verifying network connectivity will be a bit more difficult in WinPE, since we have a limited User Interface, so all investigation must be done in the debugging mode (Press F8) cmd.exe
      ○ Try connecting to the Deployment Share:
      c:\> net use * \\MDT\DeploymentShare$ /u:UserDomain\UserName *
      ○ Try pinging the Deployment Server:
      c:\> Ping.exe MDT.Corp.contoso.com
      ○ Verify that you have an IP address ( ipconfig /all ) If you have an AutoConfiguration address - Driver OK - WinPE can't reach the DHCP server. If you have "Media Disconnected" - Driver OK - Physical adapter not plugged to network. If
no devices are listed - Driver bad - Driver not installed.
      ○ Check the x:\windows\system32\WpeInit.log - This log will show the network driver (if found) being installed.
Step 8 - Verify driver packages are getting included into WinPE
Firstly, verify the correct driver package from within the full OS above. By default MDT will import *all* Storage and Networking drivers into your WinPE image. However it is possible to change the subset of files copied via "Selection Profile" or
other method. Cross check your WinPE Driver Settings.
      ○ From within the MDT console, right click on the root of your Deployment Share and select properties.
      ○ Click on the "Windows PE" tab, and the "Drivers and Patches" sub tab for both x86 and x64.
      ○ Your Network Drivers package must be in the "Selection Profile" if enabled.
Finally verify that the correct Network Driver package is being copied to WinPE. If necessary this may include setting up a debugger to watch the MDT Provider build the WinPE Image from scratch. My preference is to use the SysInternals
    http://live.sysinternals.com/Dbgview.exe tool.
      ○ Open up the MDT console.
      ○ Download and run the DbgView.exe tool.
      ○ Update the deployment share in question.
      ○ The DbgView tool should show what drivers were copied to each WinPE Image.
    Other
Whenever you add a driver into the MDT console, you must update the deployment share for that drivers to be added to your WinPE Image. If you are unsure, select "Completely regenerate the boot images." to ensure the drivers is imported. Additionally,
you must copy the updated LitetouchPE_x??.wim and *.iso files to the other consumers of the WinPE image like WDS/PXE and or any USB offline media.
Note that some Broadcom NetXtreme class of drivers have a multi-function driver architecture that may have difficulty loading in WinPE. Ensure that you load the "RIS" class of drivers from Broadcom in your MDT environment.
Note that by default MDT does *NOT* support the installation of Windows over Wireless network devices (Wi-Fi). The MDT installation sources must either be available through wired networking, or offline (USB Flash) media.
This post does not discuss origination of drivers within MDT ( Chaos vs. Total Control ), that is a different topic.

    Further Help
If you are still having problems with drivers in via MDT, ask the experts in the MDT Technet Forum:
Include a short description of the problem. Including the Make/Mode if necessary.
Include the HardwareIDs from the Device Manager (Devmgmt.msc) into the post (from above).
Copy your known good driver package (step 3 above) to OneDrive.
Copy the following log files to a public site like OneDrive and include the link:
      ○ PnpEnum.xml (from Client)
      ○ Bdd.log (From Client) - or at least the ZTIDrivers.log file.
      ○ c:\windows\inf\SetupAPI.*.log (from client)
      ○ %DeployRoot%\control\Driver*.xml
      ○ %DeployRoot%\control\SelectionProfile*.xml
      ○ %DeployRoot%\control\settings.xml (if problems in WinPE)
      ○ x:\windows\System32\WpeInit.log (if problems in WinPE)
      ○ If the MDT server is not including your driver package in WinPE include the DBGView log.
This post is by Keith Garner - Keith was a developer on the MDT team where he developed the ZTIDrivers.wsf script, he also worked for the Windows Hardware Quality Labs as a technical PM on Driver Quality, and developed samples for the
Microsoft Device Driver Kit (DDK) specifically around the area of Device Driver installation in the OS (Windows NT 5.0, 2000 and Windows XP). (So yes, I know drivers :^).

OK. I have redone the drivers for WinPE which has reduced the image size by about 200MB. Unfortunately the problem persists.
Is there anyway to turn on some sort of boot logging so I can see what driver it is failing on?
I am also still seeing the weird behavior of it working over PXE but blue screens when booting from USB. Can anyone explain that?
