How to Debug Java Applet called in a BSP Component

Hi All,
In CRM Marketing->Segments->Graphical Modeler
A click on settings button will load a Java Applet window.
The settings window displays some elements. I want to translate a text displayed in that Java Applet window.
Please let me know the ways to debug a Java applet loaded from BSP Component or ways the data is loaded into Java applet from SAP.
Your help would be appreciated and points will be rewarded.
Thanks a lot in advance.

For the newbies, like me:
Instruction to setup and debug an applet in Eclipse IDE via your Browser
Java Console Setup for Applet debugging:
1. Open up the Java Console Application by double clicking on it at C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\javacpl.exe
2. Select the Java Tab
3. View Applet Runtime Settings button
4. Enter in the Java Runtime Parameters the following: -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=5555,server=y,suspend=y
5. Note: the port address 5555 can be anytime you want. You will need to enter whatever number you select into Eclipse IDE.
6. Note: if you dont need to debug code in the Applets init() method, then use....suspend=n (Not tested yet.)
Eclipse setup for Applet debugging:
1. Open up Eclipse and create your Applet. Once you are ready to debug go to the next step.
2. Select the top level Run menu
3. Pick the Open Debug Dialog option
4. In the left column select Remote Java Application
5. Then select the New button to create a debug configuration for the remote session (the new button looks like a page with a yellow plus in the upper right hand corner)
6. Give your session a name. I used the class name followed with the work remote for example: mainclassnameRemote
7. Set connection type to Standard (Socket Attached)
8. Host to localhost
9. Port to 5555, or whatever you used in Java Console Setup step 5.
10. Due not check the Allow termination of remote VM
11. Due not close this window.
Start debugging:
1. Go to your Applet html launch file and launch in a browser
2. Then go back to eclipse and select the debug button
3. Eclipse should now throw you into the debugger mode.
4. If it hangs, just retry again. It seems to work ok most of the time. A few time I need to close the browser and start over and then it seems to work.

    hey,
    I want to learn how to start java applet (with database) with netbeans.. I'm new to java...can you show me how can i start..if you have any doc about it can you send it to me..thank you..:)

    You really should be asking this NetBeans question at the NB site - these forums are for Java language topics, not NB support.

    Almost any NB question you have can be answered by either the NB web documentation or the NB program's Help.

  • How relevant is Java Applet technology in 2006 for wide web deployment?

    How relevant is Java Applet technology in 2006 for wide web deployment?
    I'm developing a website which requires deployment Internationally to as many users as possible. Many people advise to stay away from Java applets, others say only use Java 1.1 (AWT limitation), some say use Flash, others say stay away from applets and plugins altogether.
    Of course it depends on the content. I have interactive 3D content currently powered by Java 1.1 applet BUT I have been using Swing to introduce custom GUI functionality but which I know may limit compatibility. I'm torn by this whole debate and what impact it will have on the relevancy of my website.
    How many users out there have browsers that will cope with my content?
    Then there's the issue of all the various different browsers nowadays. I'm testing for IE and Netscape on Windows platform, but what about other browsers and OSes on other platforms? I notice that some websites have a page with tables to show users what browser is and is not compatible with their web content. How far must a web developer go to test all these things exhaustively?
    Then there's the issue of a 16MB download for the latest Java plugin if a user's system is not up to date. Can all modern browsers handle Java even with the latest Java download?
    Or should I just tell the user to get a compatible browser? Another 10-20MB download, depending.
    Or how about Flash? That reportedly has a vast International deployment base, but do I need to pay for a Flash editor / IDE / compiler? So far I've been using freeware (HTML, Java, NetBeans, PHP, MySQL, PNG images) to achieve excellent results within my ludicrously limited budget. The Flash Player is only a 930KB download, and that is quite user friendly even if I must tell a user to get the latest version only 2 minutes download on a 56K modem or about 15 seconds on DSL followed by a 2 second really easy install.
    Look here to see where Java ranks against Flash and others :
    http://www.macromedia.com/software/player_census/flashplayer/
    I know Java. I use it for apps and now applets. I get it to communicate with my server's PHP and MySQL. It works well on my machine, but will my applets work for millions of users world wide with few technical problems? Looking through Java forums I see developers struggling with Java Applets in Safari on OSX but not on Windows. Then another has problems with Applets in IE on Windows but not on Netscape. Then one browser struggles with key events . . . it's like a mine field out there and I'm struggling for clear direction.
    Microsoft's support for Java has been poor. If I depend on Java Applets now and for the next year, then will they still be supported 3 or 5 years from now? Or will I have to write off this investment in Java development effort and then switch to something else? Or switch to something else now?
    Does Sun Microsystems somewhere reveal how ubiquitous their JVM deployment is?
    Perhaps I'm totally misinformed, but Java Applets seem to be dying out. I'd really love to hear from other active web developers out there doing stuff for wide deployment to mass markets.

    Since my zwebsite is already using Java 1.1 for 3D visualization I've decided to standardize on Java 1.1 to gain maximum browser compatibility. To add another technology like Flash at this point may just complicate matters, especially for me.
    I'm now converting my Swing GUI to AWT. It wastes a lot of time, but the effort should be worth it in terms of the deployment success rate - in theory at least :-)
    Just imagine if Java 1 had Swing . . . dream on!
    In the deployment stats noted in my first post on this thread they state that Java has 86% world wide desktop deployment. Problem is that I bet that figure only relates to Java1. I wonder what pathetic percentage is true for Java2?
    Regarding the use of Java for content rich dynamic content for world world wide web browser deployment . . . I'm rather disillusioned at this point. It seems for this application Java is stuck indefinitely at Java1 and the cool things they developed after that cannot be used effectively. Please note that I am ONLY referring to wide browser deployment. For stand-alone apps and targeted web deployment (where you can reasonably expect your user to upgrade his/her system for a good reason) Java is still very cool.
    As for Java WebStart: I can see the uses for it, but it just does not fit into the browser application where the general public enter your web pages and see cool content inside the essential context of your webpage. This last point is vital for any serious web site. If the object of the site is to deploy a useful app to the user (like a forex trading front-end with GUI) then use Java WebStart by all means.
    After this website, I'll invest in Flash. I'm sure Flash is not without its share of issues, but it has 97% deployment of nearly the latest versions and user download/upgrade is under 1MB. On top of that it does not seem to suffer from corporate relationship woes like those between Sun and Microsoft.
    After all, Flash is labelled as a 'player' and not a Virtual Machine. Mass users out there want to play rather than know about complex and bulky IT stuff.

    I don't have any experience with GTO's cards, but one would expect they provide a user guide or a data sheet how to load applications.. Reasons could be:
    1. Issuer policy to have a certain security level for content management --> raise the security level to C_MAC + ENC
    2. Issuer policy this card is static --> no post-issuance

  • How to debug Java adventure with jdb

    Hi,
    I'm learning J2ee and I'd like to use and debug
    Java adventure. I tried to find some information but found nothing.
    What I tried to debug , is to start the j2ee server by adding the following options into the bin/asadmin.bat file:
    -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n
    This it doesn't work because the j2ee server is started with the javaw.exe virtual machine. So I'm stuck here.
    My first question: 1- what visual debugger is great to debug J2ee apps ??
    I'd like to known what are the steps to:
    2- how to start the j2ee server in order to attach the jdb or a visual
    debugger ?
    3- when starting the j2ee server, what do i have to do in order to step
    into the code source of Java adventure and follow function calls ?
    4- how do I have to start the jdb to attach to the J2ee server ?
    5- Any useful tip to debug J2ee apps ! :-)
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi,Hello
    I'm learning J2ee and I'd like to use and debug
    Java adventure. I tried to find some information but
    found nothing.
    What I tried to debug , is to start the j2ee server by
    adding the following options into the bin/asadmin.bat
    file:
    -Xdebug
    ug
    -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,sus
    end=nThat looks OK.
    This it doesn't work because the j2ee server is
    started with the javaw.exe virtual machine. So I'm
    stuck here.javaw.exe implies you are on a win32 machine. The default
    debugging transport on win32 is shared memory... but you specify
    a socket connection on the debugee command line above. This
    means you need to specify sockets on the debugger side as well.
    For example:
    jdb -connect com.sun.jdi.SocketAttach:hostname=localhost,port=8000
    Note the port number (8000) matches the value you specified
    when starting the debugee.
    >
    My first question: 1- what visual debugger is great
    to debug J2ee apps ??For a list of debugging tools, check this web page:
    http://java.sun.com/products/jpda/using.html
    Many of these products work well in a J2EE environment.
    Most of them are either free, or come with an introductory
    "try before you buy" offer.
    I'd like to known what are the steps to:
    2- how to start the j2ee server in order to attach
    the jdb or a visual
    debugger ?You are on the right track with the flags/options you
    mentioned.
    3- when starting the j2ee server, what do i have to
    do in order to step
    into the code source of Java adventure and follow
    low function calls ?The code you want to examine needs to be compiled
    with the "-g" flag added to the javac command line.
    When -g is specified, javac will save information
    in the .class files that is used later during debugging.
    4- how do I have to start the jdb to attach to the
    J2ee server ?See above...
    For more coverage on this topic, refer to:
    JPDA Connection and Invocation Details
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/jpda/conninv.html
    5- Any useful tip to debug J2ee apps ! :-)That is a bit outside the scope of this forum... sorry.
    Any useful tips will depend on what J2EE app server you
    are using. Most of the well-known servers come with
    a debugging guide. For example, take a look at:
    Debugging J2EE Applications in the SunOne Application Server
    documentation:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-2171-10/dgdebug.html

  • How to Debug multiple Applets in a IDE

    Hi,
    I am relatively new to Java. At work, I have a client-server style application where applets are deployed to the clients in an html page.
    Background:*
    The sequence is something like this:
    - Client goes to the relevant url
    - The returned html page has an embedded login applet
    - Upon successful login, an html page is returned that has two embedded applets
    - On the client side, navigation buttons within the applets take them to other applets
    On the server there is an application running that listens to the relevant socket (that the client sends data to) and sends out appropriate responses and data.
    Question:*
    How do i setup this system in any IDE (any IDE is ok with me) so that i can do the following:
    - Step through and debug the applets (appletviewer doesnt work because it seems to work with independent applets only. In my case, all the applets have relationships among them. eg. unless the login applet successfully completes, the other applets cannot work... etc)
    - Visually view / edit existing applets UI (something like a WYSIWYG tool)
    Thank you so much.
    schinni

    Hi,
    I am actually, working in an applet too, and I also need to debug it. With Eclipse you will easily get it, just click with Right button on the projects name and choose: Debug As-> Java Applet. You can arrive also by: Debug As-> Open Debug Dialog. At the end you will have a window where you will be able to add the applet parameters in the Parameters tab. Finally you only have to set breakpoint (double click in the left side of any code line) and with F5, F6 and F7 you will get the absolute control. I don't think you've problems even you run multiple applets.
    Hope it helps you (sorry for my poor English).

  • Debug java class called from CF?

    I'm experiencing different behaviour with a Java class called from a CF page to the same class called directly from Java code.
    Is it possible for me to step into the Java class and debug it in CF builder if I attach the correct Java source?
    Pressing F5 (step-in) on the line that the method is called just skips straight over.

    I would like to be able to make a java application that has a GUI that is a rich web page.That's what applets are for.
    In this case, this page exists on my system and I can open it with my browser.
    This page does many things that are typical of a web page like displaying information and presenting rich and graphical controls
    but some of this controls are connected to a java application, launched from the web page or viceversa.I don't get this "launched from the web page" business. Is that a requirement or are you describing an existing system? Or are you describing somebody else's system whose architecture you want to imitate? Or are you using the word "launched" simply to describe the action of starting an applet?
    It still isn't clear to me what you are trying to describe. But at any rate if you want a Java program to run in your browser, that's an applet. Note that applets can interact with Javascript code in the page they are embedded in. Or if you want to download a Java application which acts as a separate application, i.e. it still runs when the browser is closed, you can use Web Start for that.

  • How can I make Applet call up a JFrame??

    hello ..
    I'm making a game, and I have a flash screen done in Applet (the very first logo that appears ) so I can just load it in the browser ... someone told me that I can't make another applet that would hold the menu choices and such come up in the same browser window, so I made it into a JFrame .. so I have an Applet calling up a JFrame, and I don't know how to do that ..
    any suggestions???

    Hmm...but that doesn't put it on the screen thgou, does it?
    IIRC applets embedded in the web page cannot contain menus - you have to 'break out' your applet so that it becomes a separate window.
    To do this you would have a small standard applet embedded in your web page which then invokes your main JFrame-based application (not applet!).
    When the user loads the web page, the embedded applet starts and then launches the JFrame-based application.
    eg:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.applet.*;
    public class RunApplet extends Applet {
        public void init() {
            MyApplet myA = new MyApplet();
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class MyApplet extends JFrame {
        private JPanel pnlCenter;
        private JLabel lblSomeText;
        public MyApplet() {
            try {
                myInit();
            catch(Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
        private void myInit() throws Exception {
            //Create components to display...
            pnlCenter = new JPanel();  //Main container inside the frame.
            lblSomeText = new JLabel("GUI stuff displays here!");
            pnlCenter.add(lblSomeText);
            //Put them on the screen...
            getContentPane().add(pnlCenter);
            //Show it...
            setTitle("My First Windowed App");
            setVisible(true);

    can anyone help me?

    I found this some where else. It shows how to sign an applet.
    START OF DOC
    How To Sign a Java Applet
    The purpose of this document is to document the steps required to sign and use an
    applet using a self-signed cert or CA authorized in the JDK 1.3 plugin.
    The original 9 steps of this process were posted by user irene67 on suns message forum:
    http://forums.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=63&thread=132769
    -----begin irene67's original message -----
    These steps describe the creation of a self-signed applet. This is useful for testing purposes. For use of public reachable applets, there will be needed a "real" certificate issued by an authority like VeriSign or Thawte. (See step 10 - no user will import and trust a self-signed applet from an unkown developer).
    The applet needs to run in the plugin, as only the plugin is platform- and browser-independent. And without this indepence, it makes no sense to use java...
    1. Create your code for the applet as usual.
    It is not necessary to set any permissions or use security managers in
    the code.
    2. Install JDK 1.3

    9. Create HTML-File for use of the Applet by the Sun Plugin 1.3
    (recommended to use HTML Converter Version 1.3)
    10. (Omitted See Below)
    -----end irene67's original message -----
    To make the plug-in work for any browser you have two options with the JDK 1.3 plugin.
    1) Is to export a cert request using the key tool and send it to a CA verification source like verisign.
    When the reponse comes back, import it into the keystore overwriting the original cert for the generated key.
    To export request:
    keytool -certreg -alias tstkey -file tstcert.req
    To import response:
    keytool -import -trustcacerts -alias tstkey -file careply.crt
    An applet signed with a cert that has been verified by a CA source will automatically be recognized by the plugin.
    2) For development or otherwise, you may want to just use your self-signed certificate.
    In that case, the JDK 1.3 plugin will recognize all certs that have a root cert located in the JDK 1.3 cacerts keystore.
    This means you can import your test certificate into this keystore and have the plugin recognize your jars when you sign them.
    To import self-signed certificate into the cacerts keystore, change directory to where the JDK plugin key store is located.
    For JDK 1.3.0_02: C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.0_02\lib\security
    For JDK 1.3.1: C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\lib\security
    Import your self-signed cert into the cacerts keystore:
    keytool -import -keystore cacerts -storepass changeit -file tstcert.crt
    (the password is literally 'changeit')
    Now, regardless of which method you use, the applet should be recognized as coming from a signed jar. The user can choose to activate it if he / she chooses. If your applet uses classes from multiple jars, for example Apache's Xerce's parser, you will need to sign those jars as well to allow them to execute in the client's brower. Otherwise, only the classes coming from the signed jar will work with the java.security.AllPermission setting and all other classes from unsigned jars will run in the sandbox.
    NOTE: Unless otherwise specified by the -keystore command in all keytool and jarsigner operations, the keystore file used is named '.keystore' in the user's home directory.
    The first time any keystore is accessed (including the default) it will be created and secured with the first password given by the user. There is no way to figure out the password if you forget it, but you can delete the default file and recreate it if necessary. For most operations, using the -keystore command is safer to keep from cluttering or messing up your default keystore.

  • How to Debug Functional Module called via RFC?

    Hi Experts,
         Please, can someone explain to me how to debug functional module that is called via RFC? Thanks in advance.
      Best Regards,
    Aleksandar

    Hi Laxman,
       First of all thank you very much for giving attention to my post. Ok, I am trying to debug function module in RM-CA (FICA), function module is called by CRM system (via RFC) and in addition all this chain is triggered by WebClient.
         I have user that can login on the CRM as well as on RM-CA (ECC 6.0) system, but those users are different (unfortunately I do not have administration permission so I can’t change profiles of my users but I can ask for it). I can without any problem debug calls that come from WebClient, so setting an external break point in CRM system I can catch whatever I want but when process comes to point where actually call to back-end (RM-CA) takes place I simply can’t get into functional module, that resides on RM-CA side. Actually what happens is that processing continues as was chosen ‘NEXT STEP’ (F6).
         To resume, two systems and two different users. Where XCM user should be created? (on RM-CA system or CRM). Should I change something in Menu option Utilities -> Settings -> ABAP Editor tab -> Debugging tab, in field users?  If you need any additional info please tell me.
      Thanks again for your support.

  • Detailed on how to install java applet ??

    Hi there,
    Can you tell me the detail on how to configure the pdk to use my
    existing applet ? I have followed the instructions in the pdf ..
    but it failed. And the instruction is not very clear.
    What is the proper procedure to do so ?
    Thanx
    -Maggie

    The way you would use a browser-run java applet is to take the
    HTML <APPLET> or <EMBED> tags you would normally use for your
    Java applet and use that HTML in your portlet.
    If you are talking about using an existing Java class, JSP, or
    servlet (all server-side), you can find detailed instructions in
    the getting started section of the PDK
