How to decipher number of ASICs on 6500 module.

Hi,
I am hoping someone will be able to clear this up with a deifnite answer since I keep finding contradicting information on line. This is regards to 6500 modules, namely WS-X6148-GE-TX, WS-X6148A-GE-TX and WS-X6748-GE-TX.
How do you find how many asics there are on a card. I have two cmds for this:
=WS-X6148-GE-TX
access#show interfaces capabilities module 2
GigabitEthernet2/1
  Dot1x:                 yes
  Model:                 WS-X6148-GE-TX
  Type:                  10/100/1000BaseT
  Speed:                 10,100,1000,auto
  Duplex:                half,full
  Ports on ASIC:         1-24                <-------------------
  Port-Security:         yes
access#show asic-version slot 2
Module in slot 2 has 3 type(s) of ASICs
        ASIC Name      Count      Version
         PINNACLE          2      (4.2)
           LEMANS          6      (0.3)
           REVATI          6      (0.3)
=WS-X6148A-GE-TX
access#show interfaces capabilities module 1
GigabitEthernet1/1
  Dot1x:                 yes
  Model:                 WS-X6148A-GE-TX
  Type:                  10/100/1000BaseT
  Speed:                 10,100,1000,auto
  Duplex:                half,full
  Ports on ASIC:         1-48                <-------------------
  Port-Security:         yes
access#show asic-version slot 1
Module in slot 1 has 2 type(s) of ASICs
        ASIC Name      Count      Version
         VISHAKHA          6      (0.1)
          DHANUSH          1      (3.0)
If I look at data sheets for these cards I see:
•Port groups
–WS-X6148-GE-TX—2
–WS-X6148A-GE-TX—6
•Port ranges per port group
–WS-X6148-GE-TX: 1-24, 25-48
–WS-X6148A-GE-TX: 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, 41-48
Why do the two commands show conflicting details on the number of ASICs/ ports per ASICs. Which should you trust?
I assume that "show asic-version slot" is the correct one, so is it the "PINNACLE" and "VISHAKHA" that are in charge of the switching? What are the other ASICS listed, what are they for?
Also I see that it says "Module oversubscription rate 8:1", so this is 1 gb per 8 ports. This is totally independant of the nimber of ASICs, is that correct?
If I compare this to a different card on another switch it doesnt add up to any of my previous theories.
=WS-X6748-GE-TX
access#show interfaces capabilities module 9
GigabitEthernet9/1
  Model:                 WS-X6748-GE-TX
  Type:                  10/100/1000BaseT
  Speed:                 10,100,1000,auto
  Duplex:                half,full
  Ports-in-ASIC (Sub-port ASIC) : 1-24 (1-12)            <-------------------
  Remote switch uplink:  no
  Dot1x:                 yes
  Port-Security:         yes
access#show asic-version slot 9
Module in slot 9 has 3 type(s) of ASICs
        ASIC Name      Count      Version
         PINNACLE          2      (4.2)
           LEMANS          6      (0.3)
           REVATI          6      (0.3)
•4 port groups
•Port ranges per port group: 1-12, 13-24, 25-36, 37-48
Module oversubscription rate 1.2:1
So really what I want to know is how many ASICs each card actually has? If I know this I can workout how many ports per ASIC.
Is there a data sheet of the capabilites of each asic.
Is there any other commands that will give me a betteroutput on the ASICs?
Is the module subscription rate dependant on the number or type of ASICs, if not waht is it dependant on?
Thanks

Stephen
I had to edit this post because i managed to confuse myself and 6500 linecards/oversubscription is something i know relatively well (or thought i did ).
I think trying to look at ASICs etc. as you are will not help because there is no direct mapping between port groupings/ASICs and throughput (or at least you can't always get at that information via the CLI). So i won't be able to answer all of your questions but i can help with the oversubsription issue. In this particular respect the best place for information is the 6500 release notes where they specify for each linecard it's port groupings and it's throughput. The figures for your linecards were taken from them and i have included a link at the bottom for the full 12.2SX release notes.
Apologies if i am telling you things you already know but with your linecards you are not comparing like with like. The WS-X6148 linecards are classic linecards whereas the WS-X6748 is a fabric only linecard. This can have a bearing on throughput/oversubscription. In simple terms there are three types of linecard with the 6500 -
classic linecards  - these only have a connected to the 32Gbps shared bus. They cannot use a dedicated connection to the switch fabric. So any classic linecards in your chassis all have to share a single bus across the whole chassis.
fabric enable linecards  - these support connections to the shared bus and dedicated connections to the switch fabric if available.
fabric only linecards - these support only dedicated connections to the switch fabric ie. they cannot use a shared bus.
The sup32 only provides a connection to the shared bus so you can use classic and fabric enabled cards in these but not fabric only. The sup720 does provide dedicated connections to the switch fabric and also connections to the shared bus so pretty much all cards are supported. The sup2T supports fabric only and a small subset of non fabric only.
So just knowing how much throughput the linecard has is not the only consideration because they also have to contend with any other linecards in the chassis that are using the shared bus. So it can complicate things although that's not to say the shared bus will be overutilised as that depends on other linecards in the chassis.  The WS-6748 is a fabric only card so it does not have to share it's connection to the switch fabric which means for data transfer the only thing you need to take into account is the amount of throughput coming from end devices connected to the linecard.
So from the release notes -
WS-X6148-GE-TX has two port groups (1-24, 25-48). Each set of 8 ports (1-8, 9 -16 etc..) is limited to 1Gbps. So you have an 8:1 oversubscription ratio with and  48 / 8 = 6Gbps gives you a potential throughput of 6Gbps. If you wanted to try and balance ports you coud spread them across the 1Gbps per 8 port ranges. This may help with throughput depending on how utilised the shared bus is.
WS-X6148A-GE-TX has 6 port groups (1-8, 9 -16 etc) and each set of 8 ports is limited to 1Gbps. 48 / 8 = 6Gbps. So with this linecard there is a direct mapping between the port groups and the actual throughput per port group. The same considerations about balancing ports etc. as above applies.
WS-X6748-GE-TX has 4 port groups (1-12, 13-24, 25-36, 37-48) It also has 2 x 20Gbps dedicated connections to the switch fabric. Ports 1 - 24 map to one of the 20Gbps connections and ports 25 - 48 map to the other 20Gbps connection. With this linecard oversusbcription is relatively easy to work out because it is not sharing it's connection to the switch fabric with any other linecards in the chassis so it really is just a question of -
48Gbps in (in = from end devices connected to the linecard)
40 Gbps out (out = to the switch fabric)
If you wanted to ensure there was absolutely no chance of oversubscription then you would only use 20 ports from  1 - 24 and 20 ports from 25 - 48. It is however unlikely that all 48 ports would be transmitting 1Gbps concurrently so you are unlikely to see oversubscription with this module.
Some of the later linecards though eg. the 10Gbps linecards can easily oversubscribe the switch fabric connection so it is more important to balance correctly if you need to avoid oversubscription. For these linecards Cisco introduced a new command to put the linecard into performance mode (as opposed to oversubscription mode). The command simply disables certain ports so that the number of ports per connection to the switch fabric is equal ie if there were 8 x 10Gbps ports using a 40Gbps connection to the switch fabric then performance mode would shut down four of the ports. This can be useful if you need to run all ports with no oversubscription but can be a bit of a blunt tool if you only need to ensure some ports don't get oversubscribed and we had a recent thread in this forum that dealt specifically with that issue.
I hope some of this helps and i haven't just bored you stupid. Here's the link to the release notes for 12.2SX -
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/release/notes/hardware.html
Edit - i should also point out that port groupings are not just about throughput, they can also be about port buffers as some linecards share memory between port groups and again this can have a big impact on the performance of the linecard.
There are also whole areas i have not touched on ie. CFC vs DFC, certain fabric only cards using the shared bus for packet lookups in CFC mode, the mixing of classic and fabric only cards which can degrade the forwarding capacity of the entire chassis. If you need to know more about this just let me know.

  • How to get number of rows return in SELECT query

i'm very new in java, i have a question:
    - How to get number of rows return in SELECT query?
(i use SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC and everything are done, i only want to know problems above)
    Thanks.

make the result set scroll insensitve, do rs.last(), get the row num, and call rs.beforeFirst(), then you can process the result set like you currently do.
             String sql = "select * from testing";
             PreparedStatement ps =
              con.prepareStatement(sql,ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
             ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
             rs.last();
             System.out.println("Row count = " + rs.getRow());
             rs.beforeFirst();~Tim
NOTE: Ugly, but does the trick.

I have no idea which component you're talking about. If want to discuss here about a non-Sun JSF component, then please mention about the name, version and build in detail. You can also consider posting this question at the website/forum/mailinglist of the component manfacturer rather than here. At least I can tell you that the Sun JSF h:dataTable has the 'rows' attribute for that. I can also suggest you to just take a look in the TLD documentation of the component in question. There should be all possible attributes listed with a detailed explanation about the behaviour.

  • How to Count Number of completed line items in past 6 months / 12 months ?

How to Count Number of completed line items in past 6 months / 12 months ?
    Hi,
I am trying to count "Number of Completed Line Items in Purchase Order Document" for my Key Figure ZPO_CNT.
    Purchase Order document = ZEBELN
    Line Item = ZEBELP.
I need to find and count if the Line Item has been received in the past 6 months from today and similarly in the past 12 months.
I have "Delivery Completed" field, ELIKZ.
So, based on this would I be able to calculate it in Query Designer?
If so, Please let me know how

    Hello Deva
If youe want to calculate the completed line item for last 6 or 12 month then i think u will be displaying the query data for these montrhs...create a customer exit to give you date range and restric it in filter area....
Now Choose any of the below option
    1. I would suggest to implement an additional key figure "counter" in cube and fill values with one for which delivery is completed.
Now use calculated key figure in Query Designer based on logic
IF counter = 1 THEN counter ELSE 0
    OR
    2. create a formula variable based on ELIKZ and use replacement path variable, it will display you no. of docs for which delivery is completed....
Award points if it solves your problem
Revert back in case of further assistance...

  • How to find number of lines in an internal table

    Dear all,
how to find number of records present in an internal table.

    DESCRIBE TABLE
    Syntax
DESCRIBE TABLE itab [KIND knd] [LINES lin] [OCCURS n].
    Extras:
    1. ... KIND knd
    2. ... LINES lin
    3. ... OCCURS n
    Effect
This statement determines some properties of the internal table itab and assigns them to the specified variables. The various additions enable you to determine the table type, the number of currently filled rows and the initial memory requirement.
In addition, the system fields sy-tfill and sy-tleng are filled with the current number of table rows and the length of a table row in bytes.
    Notes
For detailed information about an internal table, you should use the methods of RTTS of the DESCRIBE TABLE statement.
Without the specification of an addition, the statement DESCRIBE TABLE only sets the system fields sy-tfill and sy-tleng.
    Addition 1
    ... KIND knd
    Effect
The table type of the internal table itab is determined and a corresponding one-digit identification is assigned to the data object knd. A character-type data type is expected for the data object. The identifications are "T" for standard tables, "S" for sorted tables and "H" for hashed tables. These values are also defined as constants sydes_kind-standard, sydes_kind-sorted, and sydes_kind-hashed in the type group SYDES.
    Addition 2
    ... LINES lin
    Effect
The current number of table rows of the internal table itab is determined and is assigned to the data object lin.The data type i is expected for the data object.
    Note
As of release 6.10, the current number of rows of an internal table can also be determined using the in-built function lines.
    Addition 3
    ... OCCURS n
    Effect
The initial memory requirement defined during the creation of the internal table with the addition INITIAL SIZE or the obsolete addition OCCURS is determined and assigned to the data object n. The data type i is expected for the data object.
    Example
Descending sorting of a generically typed internal table in a subprogram. Since sorted tables cannot be sorted in a descending order, the table type is checked to avoid an exception that cannot be handled.
    TYPE-POOLS sydes.
FORM sort_descending CHANGING itab TYPE ANY TABLE.
      DATA tabkind(1) TYPE c.
      DESCRIBE TABLE itab KIND tabkind.
      IF tabkind = sydes_kind-standard OR
         tabkind = sydes_kind-hashed.
        SORT itab DESCENDING.
      ELSEIF tabkind = sydes_kind-sorted.
        MESSAGE '...' TYPE 'E'.
      ELSE.
        MESSAGE '...' TYPE 'E'.
      ENDIF.
    ENDFORM.
    DESCRIBE FIELD INTO
    Note
This statement is for internal use only.
It cannot be used in application programs.
    Syntax
    DESCRIBE FIELD dobj INTO td.
    Effect
All characteristics of the field f, its components , sub-components etc. are displayed in the field td (type description). td has to be of the type SYDES_DESC, defined in Type Group SYDES. Because of this, the type group SYDES must be integrated into the ABAP-program with a TYPE-POOLS statement .
The structure SYDES_DESC has two table-type components TYPES and NAMES:
In TYPES, the tree structure of the type belonging to f is displayed. The components of a node are stored in the table TYPES in a continuous manner. Beginning and end of the line area that represents the components are stored in TYPES-FROM and TYPES-TO. The reference to the superior node can be found in TYPES-BACK. If no superior resp. subordinate node exists, then this is marked by the value 0 (For the relevance of further components, refer to the following sections).
The names of components, types etc. are not stored directly in TYPES. Instead, the components TYPES-IDX_... hold an index in the name table NAMES. The value 0 indicates that there is no reference to the name table.
NAMES contains the possibly fragmented names in the component NAMES-NAME. If a name continues in the following line, this is indicated by an asterisk ('*') in the component NAMES-CONTINUE.
The type description table (TYPES) not only stores information about the tree structure but also further information about the type of f resp. its components. This includes especially all information that can be determined using the usual additions to DESCRIBE FIELD. In detail, TYPES contains the following columns:
    IDX_NAME
    Component Name
    IDX_USER_TYPE
Name of a user-defined type, i.e., a type that was defined through its TYPES-statement. Derived types (... TYPE A-B) and structures from the ABAP-Dictionary are not considered to be user-defined types.
    CONTEXT
For user-defined types only: The context, in which the type is defined. Possible values are defined in the constant SYDES_CONTEXT of the type group SYDES. Please only use these constants to carry out a comparison. In detail, we distinguish between the following type contexts:
    SYDES_CONTEXT-PROGRAM: Program-global type
    SYDES_CONTEXT-FORM   : FORM-local type
    SYDES_CONTEXT-FUNCTION: FUNCTION-local type
    SYDES_CONTEXT-METHOD : METHOD-local type
    IDX_CONTEXT_NAME
    For user-defined types only:
With a local context: The name of the FORM or FUNCTION, whose type was defined. The name of the associated program is then the first entry in the name table.
With a global context: The name of the program in which the type was defined.
    IDX_EDIT_MASK
Conversion routine from the ABAP-Dictionary, is in accordance with the addition EDIT MASK at simple DESCRIBE.
    IDX_HELP_ID
Help-Id when referencing to fields from the ABAP-Dictionary
    LENGTH
Internal length, corresponds to the addition LENGTH at simple DESCRIBE
    OUTPUT_LENGTH
Output length, corresponds to the addition OUTPUT-LENGTH at simple DESCRIBE
    DECIMALS
Number of decimal digits, corresponds to the addition DECIMALS at simple DESCRIBE
    TYPE
ABAP-Type, corresponds to the addition TYPE at simple DESCRIBE
    TABLE_KIND
A table type is stored here for the components which represent an internal table. The same values are returned as with the variant DESCRIBE TABLE itab KIND k. Components which do not represent a table get the return value set to SYDES_KIND-UNDEFINED (see type group SYDES).
    Example
Example definition of the complex data type EMPLOYEE_STRUC:
    PROGRAM DESCTEST.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF name_struc,
             first  TYPE c LENGTH 20,
             last   TYPE c LENGTH 20,
           END OF name_struc,
           BEGIN OF absence_time_struc,
             day        TYPE d,
             from       TYPE t,
             to         TYPE t,
           END OF absence_time_struc,
           phone_number TYPE n LENGTH 20,
           BEGIN OF employee_struc,
             id         LIKE sbook-customid,
             name       TYPE name_struc,
             BEGIN OF address,
               street  TYPE c LENGTH 30,
               zipcode TYPE n LENGTH 4,
               place   TYPE c LENGTH 30,
             END OF address,
             salary_per_month TYPE p LENGTH 10 DECIMALS 3,
absent           TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF absence_time_struc
                                   WITH NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY,
phone            TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF phone_number
                                   WITH NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY,
           END OF employee_struc.
You can determine the structure of the type EMPLOYEE_STRUC by collecting the type group SYDES as follows:
    TYPE-POOLS: sydes.
    DATA: employee TYPE employee_struc,
          td       TYPE sydes_desc.
    DESCRIBE FIELD employee INTO td.
The following table shows a few selected columns of the type description table TD-TYPES. For a better overview, the names of the columns IDX_NAME, IDX_UERR_TYPE and IDX_EDIT_MASK have been shortened:
        |FROM| TO |BACK|NAME|UTYP|EMSK|TYPE
    |--||||||--

Please note that the entries in rows 6 and 7 represent internal tables (ABAP-Type h). There is always an entry for the corresponding row type (rows 13 and 17) to an internal table.
The indices in the rows 5 to 7 refer to entries in the name table TD-NAMES. If you look, e.g., at row 3, you find the corresponding component name in TD-NAMES from row 7 (NAME) onward and the corresponding user type from row 5 (NAME_STRUC) onward.
In the name table TD-NAMES you find the following entries. Note that the names SALARY_PER_MONTH and ABSENCE_TIME_STRUC are stored in two parts:
        |CONTINUE|NAME                   |CONTINUE|NAME
    |--|     -||--
      1 |        |DESCTEST            12 |        |PHONE
      2 |        |EMPLOYEE_STRUC      13 |        |FIRST
      3 |        |SBOOK-CUSTOMID      14 |        |LAST
      4 |        |==ALPHA             15 |        |STREET
      5 |        |NAME_STRUC          16 |        |ZIPCODE

  • How to count number of ones in table

    Hello,
i created one table 16x32 each cell is updating 1 byte of data, how to count number of one in all cell, and is it right way to calculate check sum??
    thank you

The simplest way is to call GetTableCellRangeValues with VAL_ENTIRE_TABLE as the range, next summing array elements.
But I don't understand your comment on checksum, so this may not be the more correct method for your actual needs: can you explain what do you mean?
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

To get IColumnPrefs assuming you have an IDocument I use
    InterfacePtr<IColumnPrefs> colPrefs(document->GetDocWorkSpace(), UseDefaultIID());
    int32 columnCount = colPrefs->GetNumColumns();
