How to default 300 dpi in ACR?

Hi all,
if I convert a photograph from ACR (Version 5.5...) in PSE 8 I get the image in 240 dpi (before it has 300 dpi, Nikon settings).
Of course I'm able to do this setting again in PSE (it's an export value for printing) but in ACR/CS4 (for example) you can set the dpi.
The presettings in ACR/PSE8 are very "poor" (7 presettings, 5 checkboxes but no dpi or something). I can't find more possibilities.
Best,
Onno

Indeed, it's an export value but I want to change this export value from 240 to 300 dpi. Please explain me where I find the settings for that.
Please understand: Many cameras write the photographs with 300 dpi (my Nikon too) even this value is the most used for printing. And my wish is to keep this for the whole workflow. But ACR works with 240 dpi.
It's a matter of comfort; no more, no less! But I want to get this comfort (this words are for the Adobe-Sect).
Thanks,
Onno

  • How to generate 300 DPI image from canvas using Imagesnapshot

    Hi all,
I want to generate image from my canvas.
I tried using bitmapdata and imagesnapshot.
Bitmapdata has no property called DPI.
Imagesnapshot allows to set DPI but it is not generating 300 dpi image.
    Any idea?

You are in the Using iPhone forum. I will ask the hosts to move this to the iPad forum. However, I'm not aware of any setting change you can make to the cameras in the iPad or iPhone.

  • How do I create a 300 dpi PDF from a Word 2003 file?

I need to convert a Word (2003) file to a High-res PDF file for the printers. They have requested 300 dpi.
I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (trial version).
The file contains a number of pictures in jpg format. Most of these are pretty high resolution. The document printed in Word on a laser printer looks fine.
I did try saving the file a a PDF file, and that did work, however it was low resolution. There must be some settings I have to change. How do I set things so it will creat a high resolution PDF file?

There is no such thing as resolution of a PDF file. Text and vectors in PDF are preserved and get scaled depending on the device on which PDF is shown.
Images in PDF do have a resolution that you can set when creating PDF. When printing your file from Word:
    After File>Print, select printer properties.
In "ADobe PDF Settings" tab, you will see "Default Settings" - click the Edit button next to it.
In the Images pane, select your desired resolution.

How do I take 300 dpi photos with my iPhone 4s?
And how do I export them to my MacBook Pro at 300 dpi to use as I want to print photos.
I have been using the standard camera on the iPhone and require 300 dpi to create photo books as the photos are resized according the layout.
Your time and assistance in appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks Tonefox!
After looking at a few of the links I found a mathematical equation that assisted me.
    Inches = Pixels/DPI
    eg: 3 inches = 300 pixels/100 DPI
Using this equation and the fact that iPhone 4s takes photos that are 3264 x 2448 I was able to work out the largest print I could make with 300 DPI.
    Width 3264 pix/ 300 DPI = 10.88 inches
    Height 2448 pix/ 300 DPI = 8.16 inches
Therefore, the largest print (with 300DPI) I can make of these photos is 10.88 inches x 8.16 inches.
    Which is great!
So is it critical for me to change the dpi in say photoshop or does it not matter as long as I don't go above the 10.88 inches x 8.16 inches?
From what I can gather the smaller I resize the photo the higher the DPI and the bigger I stretch the photo the lower the DPI?
Further clarification will be much appreciated. Thanks

  • How can I get 300 dpi tifs out of webex stills & then worked on in adobe illustrator?

How can I get 300 dpi tifs out of webex stills & then worked on in adobe illustrator?
I have been trying to convert images created in webex and transferred to illustrator into 300 dpi tifs. They download as ucf's when generated on white board. Or I have to upload files from other webex participants coming in at 72 dpi, converting them to something bigger in photoshop to paint in before taking them back into the webex session as a doc that then gets worked on further during the session. Later they go into illustrator for some more work with vectors. That's fine for the web but now a publisher wants them as 300 dpi tifs and I can only get things back & forth as 72 dpi pdf's. If I try to bump them up with a resample, they come out teensy weensy. What am I missing and is there any way to make them look good?

What I need is to be able to transfer the images between formats without degradation of the resolution and find ways to sharpen what I have even if I can't increase pixels. If the original I'm delivered is a 96 dpi power point slide, for example, that's what I have to work with, I'm using Illustrator to compensate with vectors. But then I still need to get it back to a 300 dpi tiff to meet the specs.

  • How do I create a pdf file that is 300 dpi in Adobe Acrobat XI?

How do I create a pdf file that is 300 dpi in Adobe Acrobat XI?

PDF files do not have a "resolution" - they aren't images. The pages are a mix of vector art and text, and raster (pixel-based) graphics. The raster items on a page can (and often do) have different resolutions.

  • How do I know if I am at 300 dpi in iPhoto?

I have to send jpegs of my artwork for a bid.  They want the jpegs to be a maximem size per image 300 dpi.  How do I know if I am at 300 dpi in iPhoto?

DPI has no meaning unless you know how big a print they want to use.  Check the pixel dimension of the photos you have and divide them by 300.  That's the size of the print you can print at that dimension.  This explains it in more detail: The Myth of DPI. Send them the largest verson of the photos as that's the best you can do.
We get this question a lot.  Can you ask them what print size at 300 dpi they want?  Then you can resize the files to those exact pixel dimensions, i.e for an 8 x 10 give them 2400 pixels x 3000 pixels.

  • How do I reduce a 300 dpi

In Freehand 8 version  9.2.2 how do I reduce a file size 1,813,841 bytes (map 48" x 40") without reducing the 300 dpi? I am on a (at least 10 year old IMAC) using OS X 10.2.8

Assuming your map is vector and not raster, try the "Simplify" xtra at the smallest amount of simplification (0.1).
    - go to "Xtras" - "Cleanup" - "Simplify" (the smallest amount of simplification 0.1 usually has little affect on the appearance but reduces file sizes considerably.)
    - duplicate the layer to be simplified and move the original layer to Background so you can compare simplified linework with the original to see if accuracy has been affected. Then delete the unnecessary layer. Don't forget to keep a backup copy of your original drawing.
    - if "Simplify" command fails, select and simplify smaller areas.
Also, get rid of any unused junk around the drawing like unnecessary embedded images etc.

  • How do I ensure my book's images are 300 dpi?

    Hey everyone,
I need to submit a book I wrote using Pages to the printer in 300 dpi.  I used photoshop to adjust the resolution of the photos to ensure that they are 300 dpi. Unfortunetly when I submit the PDF at "best" quality I still get an error saying that some of my photos are low resolution.  I am trying to figure out what is going wrong.
I did notice that the photos in question seem to all have a picture frame.  Could that have something to do with it?  Or is there something else I am missing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

The actual picture frame will be rendered at 72dpi by the ColorSync filters when generating the pdf.
Steer clear of shadows, reflections, transparency of bitmaps and transparency of vector objects overlapping bitmaps, the fancy frames and 3D charts. They are all rendered at 72dpi by default in OSX.
Pages is not a professional DTP tool. Even though it might look like one with some of the features, Apple has failed to implement nearly every technical requisite to make high quality output possible. The defaults for output are set abismally low and there are no tools to permit consistent, reliable output.
Apple's huge profits come almost entirely from people who can barely manage the basics of day to day computing. That they have not entirely abandoned professional users has more to do with sentiment and a legacy of support than any current corporate business plan.
Don't expect Apple to do anything to rectify the problems. This has nothing to do with iPhones and iPads which are Apple's present and future.

  • How to set up 300 dpi with 180 LPI

I am trying to create files for printing a picture book. The pages and cover have the following specifications: 300 dpi and 180 LPI
This is obviously not standard as I am struggling to figure out how to accomplish it. I am sure I will have to start over from scratch with my original image files, and wonder if I will have to re-photograph my artwork to arrive at these specifications.
I am very new to Adobe software, so be nice and start from ground up. I am used to Paint Shop Pro 7, and used it some to create the image files in the first place. This is because the images are round with a feathered edge and I was unable to understand Photoshop well enough to select the inside of a circle.
So after I get the dpi and LPI figured out and have something to work with, I then need to learn how to select the inside of a circle and feather the edges.
Thanks to whomever comes to the rescue...

What application will be used for the final files? If you're putting together a brochure post in the InDesign forum.
This for your own benefit. You'll get very little attention in this forum.

  • How do I set to 300 DPI when exporting?

I have a real problem here. I use an Apple iMac with the base software, iPhoto.
When I export and burn to a CD, the photos are evidently being exported at a very low (72) DPI. I've had complaints from publishers and a stock agency that my images are not at 300 DPI. Yet I cannot figure out how to set DPI when exporting.
One stock agency owner told me to click on "preferences" and look there for where to set DPI. I did so, and found nothing whatsoever about DPI settings. He (the stock agency owner) doesn't use an Apple, so he was probably basing his "preferences" suggestion on where one would go if they were using a Windows-based program, or if one were using Photoshop.
If anyone can tell me how to set the DPI using the software I have I would appreciate it. I don't need to know how to do this in Photoshop or Aperture, as I don't have these programs, and I do not intend to get another editing program. How do you do it using only iPhoto - that's my dilemma.
    Thanks!

    Tom:
DPI only comes into play when you set a size to be printed. Say you have an image that is 1600 x 1200 pixels in size. iPhoto when exported would report it at 72 dpi and a print size of 22.22 inches x 16.66 inches. If you you wanted a 300 dpi print from that photo you would have to print it at 5.33 inches x 4 inches.
It doesn't make any difference what the dpi is reported as long as the pixel dimensions are large. What size prints are offered by the stock agency? Take the largest that you photos would be offered at and multiple each dimension by 300 to get the number of pixels you would need to provide in the file. For example an 8 x 10 would require a minimum of 2400 x 3000 pixels. An 11 x 14 - 3300 x 4200 pixels.
To get a photo to report a specific dpi it must be set to be printed at a particular size. Photoshop can do that. The print size is included with the other info embedded in the file that would let other image applications see the dpi and the print size. For more info on this read The Myth of DPI. Watch this video screenshot of changing the dpi of a photo in Photoshop. Watch as the print size changes with dpi changing but the pixel dimensions remain the same.
iPhoto cannot set the print size for exporting.
Bottom line: if you were to provide an image at 3300 x 4200 pixels (an 11x14) it should be sufficient for any size up to that size. Photoshop Elements for Mac, at $79 (Amazon.com) has about 75% of Photoshop's capabilities at 1/7 the cost. It's really a very powerful, consumer oriented image editor. Ask them what the minimum pixel dimensions are for the photos.

  • How can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi) images?

Apparently there is a way to save powerpoint slides as 300 dpi images, with some finagling, but not the mac version.  Does anyone know how to do this in keynote?  Or is there a relativley easy way to do it with free/cheap software?  I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.

how can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi)
to save individual images from each slide in Keynote;     file > export > images > TIFF (for optimum quality)
You are using the wrong terminology to describe creating an image file
    - dpi ( meaning dots per inch )  is the measurement used in printing to create the number of print dots per inch that will be deposited on to physical media like paper or film   This is done in the printer settings box of the print driver and is dependant on how the individual printer can print..
    ppi ( meaning pixels per inch ) is the measurement you need to use when creating the number of pixels in a digital image file. You establish image resolution in Keynote using the inspector;
Keynote > inspector > document > slide size
I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.
You can resample images in editing applications such as Photoshop or Painter but what you are doing is adding non image information to the image to increase pixel count, this is called noise. As you state this is not the procedure to use in your situation.
