How to default Preview/Finder to print "Scale to Fit Print Entire image/Fill Entire Paper"?

Hello all,
I have to print PDFs. Preview or printing directly from Finder prints scaling 100% and many many times the edges of the PDFs are left outside of the printing area. I have the correct paper size selected (A4) and actually the PDFs are also A4 but for some reason 100% zooms in a bit and cuts the sides of the print outside.
I can of course fix this by selecting Scale to Fit and Print Entire Image but I do have to do this every single time I open a PDF. I want to make this option my default! And preferrably so that I can use CMD+P from Finder to print directly without having to open the PDF. I already know what is in it...
I have tried different Terminal tricks I have found searching the web but no luck, this and others with Preview closed before executing the command
defaults delete com.apple.Preview PVImagePrintingScaleMode
Please help and make my life easier. Cannot be this hard.

I got a work around for this. Instead of using RTF template, I used Microsoft Excel itself as template and did the formatting in excel.
thanks,
Vijay

  • How do I get Finder to show thumbnail icons of symlinks to images?

    For some reason, even when I have icon preview enabled, instead of showing the thumbnail of the image, it shows a generic JPG icon with an arrow.  This is really frustrating because I need to be able top see thumbnails of all my images at once, so I can quickly select files for acting on.  And just to be clear, all the images in the directory are symlinks to the original images.  I can't browse by the original images because I am using symlinks for organizational reasons.

    I am porting an image matching program from windows, which has a similar need; to show images which are similar to eachother via symlink or  windows shortcut.
    The data to show a preview of a linked image is readily available to the operating system.
    There should be absolutely no need for a 3rd party app.
    It works seamlessly and effortlessly under windows.
    It is a ridiculous shortcoming by Apple that this functionality is not available.
    (also, @barney, an alias is not the same as a symlink.)

  • How to scale to fit Photoshop CS6

    I work with a lot of texture layers, often the wrong size and dimensions. I do transform and manually resize. But is there a scale to fit command?In the Photoshop Paper Texture extension, you can see it does that automatically. If there isn't such a command, can anyone point me to an action I can use.
    Thank you.
    Max

    No guessing needed of course there is. Layers are as easy to resize as documents is.  That is what "Transform" does in a script though its method name in script is resize. The resize values used are relative to current size percentage the anchor point defaults to the center but can be changed and the interpolation use is you interpolation preference which can be changed.
    Javascript syntax
    resize ([horizontal] [, vertical][, anchor]); // number number AnchorPosition
    Resizes the layer to the specified dimensions (as a percentage of its current size) and places it in the specified position.
    Here is a sample of how one might use it. You need to be careful if you have CS6 Adobe failed to update Photoshop scripting to support BicubicAutomatic and if you leave Adobe default interpolation preference set script will encounter a Photoshop internal error when you try to save that setting.
    // Save interpolation settings the script will fail if CS6 and setting is bicubic automatic
    var userResampleMethod = app.preferences.interpolation;
    app.preferences.interpolation = ResampleMethod.BICUBIC; // resample interpolation bicubic
    if (LWidth/LHeight<SWidth/SHeight) { // Smart Object layer Aspect Ratio less the Canvas area Aspect Ratio
       var percentageChange = ((SWidth/LWidth)*100); // Resize to canvas area width
       activeDocument.activeLayer.resize(percentageChange,percentageChange,AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER);
    else {
       var percentageChange = ((SHeight/LHeight)*100); // resize to canvas area height
       activeDocument.activeLayer.resize(percentageChange,percentageChange,AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER);
    app.preferences.interpolation = userResampleMethod; // Reset interpolation setting

  • Excel file won't scale to fit page

    We have just installed a new copier, a Ricoh MP C4503, that repaced essentially an earlier version of the product.
    We have a user with an Excel for Mac 2011 xls file, that when he selected an area and printed with scale to fit, printed full page on 11 x 17. But now the spreadhseet comes out looking shrunk on the page, perhaps as thought it would look if printed fully on 8.5 x 11 but I'm just guessing.
    If I print this file on another Mac,with essentially the same OS (or several other versions of OSX on several other Macs we have in the office) using the same copier, it prints as desired, a beautiful fullpage 11x17 spreadsheet.
    It is only on his MBP (with latest updates I might add) that this problem is occurring, so I think it must be a problem with his OS, his printer driver, or his Excel installation, and I would remind, it printed fine before the new printer/copier came along.
    I have tried a barrage of possible solutions until I'm bleary-eyed: multiple tweaks of the settings in sys prefs, printer features, page setup, print area, deleting and reinstalling driver, and more.
    Help?

    Wrong place to ask perhaps?

  • Scale to fit not working in Ppro cs3

    I have an issue with scale to fit of export settings in Premier Pro CS3. I need to eliminate the black bars on the side of clips. I check the scale to fit of the output box but it will not do the job. I have to manually play around with pixels numbers in order to get rid of the black bars. Is this normal or am I missing something?

    I have a semi-related question. I'm using CS4.  Does scale to fit reduce the image quality? It seems like it does.
    I shot P2 HDV footage in the widescreen ratio (shot 24p 720p HVX-200), but my intention was to present a 1.33 image aspect ratio (not to be confused with the HDV pixel aspect ratio) even on the 16x9 displays, in other words pillarboxed.
    This output was successful using crop tool in Media Encoder, but on 4x3 TVs, I want to present a fullscreen image. I output with Media Encoder, select 4x3, and I crop the same way, and then I choose "scale to fit". However, this reduces the image quality.
    Is there any other way I can take 16x9 1.78 footage and crop it in Premiere Pro, or Encore, or Media Encoder to create a full-quality 4x3 image that is fullscreen on 4x3 TVs?  (Note: I definitely don't want a letterboxed and pillarboxed result on 4x3 TVs, i.e. windowboxed).
    I tried opening new Premiere Pro projects with different settings, and tried using "interpret footage" to fool it, but I couldn't hit on the magical combination to create a 4x3 cropped project (or Pan&Scan you might say) in Premiere Pro. Are there some Pan and Scan tools in Premiere Pro that can do this?
    I found some help here. It says: "This techniques is called pan & scan. In Adobe Premiere Pro, you can implement either technique by using Motion effect properties such as Position and Scale."  But what the heck would I do? Open a 4x3 standard def project and then import the HDV P2 footage and use position and scale there?  Cropping it in an appropriately opened DVCPROHD project has a 16x9 image area to start with...
    Any help?

  • How to change Scale to Scale to fit as default in Preview?

    I would like to have Preview set to 'scale to fit' (which it always used to be up through 10.7) rather than 'scale' as it is in Mavericks. This must be possible using terminal but I have no idea how to find the appropriate command line for such an operation.
    Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance

    If you have to increase the size of multiple clips, and each has a different attribute setting as it is..the only way to do this is manually...clip by clip.  There is no easy button.
    No one said editing was easy.  If they did...they lied.

  • How do I Configure Desktop Printer to scale to fit?

    I love the feature of drag and drop printing and I often need to print many pdfs. However when I drag pdfs to the desktop printer icon it prints them on letter sized paper without scaling them to fit. I have configured the printer in the setup utility to print on tabloid but it still prints on letter with no scaling. How can I configure the desktop printer to scale to fit and select paper size? booya

    Hi Daniel, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Doesn't your printer have a setting for the default size in it rather than just on the Mac?
    What size are these in the first place?
    I think the secret is to save the Tabloid size as a Default, but I don't have a Tabloid to test with, so I used Preview, (which you may end up having to use to drop on or Script to, dunno yet).
    I made a new Page size of Tabloid...
    Then saved as default...
    You'll have to test this... not even sure it works to Scale to Size, but at least you could drop them on Preview then +p to see.

  • When printing a list in Address Book, how can I select more than the default Attributes and keep them selected when I print again? I want to print ALL information for contacts so I have email address, notes, phone, company, title, etc all on one page.

    When printing a list in Address Book, how can I select more than the default Attributes and keep them selected when I print again? I want to print ALL information for contacts so I have email address, notes, phone, company, title, etc all on one page. I don't want to have to check off an additional 5 or 6 attributes each time I print out contact information. Is there a way to change the default setting for printing lists, so it is not just "phone," "photo," and "job title?"

    I have a user who wants to do this same thing. I did not find any way either to default the attributes to anything other than what you see the first time. Seems like such a trivial thing, hard to believe they do not allow it. I did find a program for this called iDress but I can't seem to download it from any links on the Internet. Not sure if it is free or not, but it was recommended by a link on the Mac support site.

  • Preview and printing scale problems

    Hi,  I couldn't find a forum for preview. iphoto was the nearest...
    basically I am just trying to print an image opened in preview to a fairly small size and no matter what I do it always seems to scale it to fit the A4 paper size. If I go to Tools - Adjust size -  and make it quite a small image, (5cms across for example) when I go to print it it still just blows it up as before, all blurry and pixely.  really I don't seem to have lots of options, I have, of course, deselected the scale-to-fit button. I have tried reducing the number in the % field.  but nothing...

    Note the Scale option in the Print Dialogue - Just below 'Auto-rotate'. It's set to 394%. What happens if you set it to 100%?

  • How to get Preview to be Safari's default PDF viewer

    I mistakenly downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader, after being advised by a state tax website.  I wish I had first tested my existing configuration because Safari/Preview had always worked just fine for viewing PDF (with the Feds!), but I didn't.  Adobe A. Reader "asked me" if I wanted to make it the default reader of PDF, and mistake number two, I clicked yes.  Then I realized I didn't like A.A.Reader compared with Preview, so I threw it out (I coudn't find any uninstall function). After that Preview worked for PDF files already on my computer, but not in Safari.  Safari Help said there is a toolbar that can be accessed by putting the pointer over the bottom center of the (SafarI) browser window and then 4 buttons are supposed to appear, one saying "open PDF with Preview."  I cant seem to get this toolbar to appear!
    I hope there is someone clever out there to tell me how to get Preview to open PDF files in Safari again.
    Message was edited by: blckhed     OK, just like the mistake I made with A. A. Reader, I should've looked through the discussions 1st (blame it on tax fatigue) because I found the answer in response to "Adobe Reader messed up Preview & Safari for me.  What now."  I removed the offending AAP plugins from the Internet Plugins folder (Mac HD>Library>Internet Plug-ins) and everything is back to normal.  Thanks Apple Discussions!

  • Set mp600 to default "Preview before printing" win 8

    I have a mp600 that serves me well.  I had it set up on an XP desktop to always "preview before printing" as the default.   Now I have replaced that desktop with a win 8 laptop and after some effort found drivers for it but I can't find a way to set the default mode to "Preview".     Each time I print, I can change it to preview before print in the settings and it works fine but I have to remember to do that each time I open the printer.
    Is this just because Canon doesn't support win 8 on this printer or am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi LocalHero,
    Windows or the application you are printing from may have a "preview" feature.   Also, the Canon drivers for your printer will contain a "Print Preview" option.  Since drivers for Windows 8 with the MP600 are not available, you are likely using the application or Windows "preview".  For additional support with setting preview this to be "on" by default, I recommend contacting MIcrosoft.

  • How to default the print options to the excel output

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to default the print options in the output of the report and the output is of excel type.
    Basically I need excel out put, which should be printed on Letter size paper and orientation should be landscape.
    For this I created a RTF template keeping orientation as landscape. I've loaded the xml data and see the output in excel. But the problem come when view print preview. By default it shows the preview in portrait orientation and scaling set to 'Adjust to 100% normal size'. Because of this my report is not getting printed in a single page. Manually If I change the orientation to landscape and scaling to 'Fit to 1 page(s) wide by 1 tall', the report prints properly. so how to default these properties while generating the output itself?
    Thanks,
    Vijay

    I got a work around for this. Instead of using RTF template, I used Microsoft Excel itself as template and did the formatting in excel.
    thanks,

  • How do i find the IP address of my printer?

    I have an HP 7130 all-in-one printer connected to a windows computer that is connected to a wireless router and modem. im using my macbook, which is also wireless to the same modem, and i am trying to set up a printer which requires the IP address of the printer it cannot find on its own. How do i find the IP address of the printer?
    Thanks!

    Hi Gavin,
    Actually it was a typo fault on my behalf. Unfortunately the 7130 will not have an IP address as it doesn't have an Ethernet connection - just USB.
    So, you are either going to have to connect the printer to the Windows computer and print from the Mac via the share or get some other hardware to share the printer. There are a number of wireless print servers on the market which allow you to connect your printer to its USB socket and then print wirelessly from your Windows and Mac computers. Or you could look at replacing the router with an Airport Extreme, which has a USB port for a printer.
    If you want use what you have then connect the printer to the Windows computer and share it. Then on your Mac, open the Printer Setup Utility and click Add. Click More Printers and then Windows Printing > Network Neighborhood. You should see the Workgroup name set in the Windows computer appear. If it doesn't then wait several minutes and try again (sometimes it can take a while before Windows computers appear in this list). Once the workgroup name appears double click it and select the computer from the new menu. At this stage you may be prompted for a user name and password for the Windows computer. Input this information and then the printer share should appear. Select it and then browse for your printer model. Now there is a good chance that your model is not listed under the HP menu so you will have to use one of the provided drivers in the list and see which one works best for your printer. Once you have selected an appropriate model click Add. Now you should be able to print via wireless..
