How to define alternate BOM in SBO

Hi Suresh,
One work around can be to define all permitition & combination in one BOM only and after selecting the BOM in Production order, user can decide which child items are to be kept and which child items are to be removed.

You can Maintain an additional currency through hard currency and Index based currency in country settings.
Path : spro - img - sap netweaver -- general settings - set countries - define countries in my sap system- select your country and assign the additional currency in index based curency and hard currency. Every document will authomatically posted in 3 currencies, provided you maintainain the exchange rate types for the additional currrencies assigned by you.
You can check the documents in Fb03 and select display in other currency.

How to define alternate items for Spare Parts

Hi SAP Gurus,
My Client wants to implement Alternate items for Spare Parts. It is not a Manufacturing unit.
Actually Client wants their Service Partners to know that
ex., Material A is an alternate item to Material B and can be used for servicing without ordering for Material A.
Whether there is any Possibility to define alternate item in the Material Master.
Off course I have gone through the thread and document of Alternate items in BOM.
I would appreciate for providing Clarity on the subject.

Hi Velmurugan,
As per your requirement i think you can achieve alternate item group functionality ( as your client is not manufacturing)
You can maintain alternate material in MRP 4 view followup material field or basic data 1 old material Field than develop a ZReport extract the same as of client not manufacturing any thing.
Otherwise refer this document if you to go to Follow up material Functionality.

How to Switching Alternate BOM to Primary BOM

Dear All
Need help...
I have already try to switch from alternate BOM to primary BOM. but why it can not effect anything? any step that i mis?
my step is :
1. Navigate to the Substitute Components window. choosing the Substitutes button from the Bills of Material window.
2. Enter a substitute item for the component.
3. Enter the quantity of the substitute item needed to replace the full component quantity.
its correct ??

MRP plans according to primary bom. If you run ASCP constrained plan, you can set the plan options such that it will look at alternates as well.
If you run MRP or unconstrained bom, you will have to change the primary bom itself (via ECO or BOM changes).
You can also consider using the alt. bom when creating the work order manually.

Hi,
In BOM , alternative items are assigned to alternative item group on the general data tab page.
In the production order in the general data tab page.
We can define the alternative item based on priority , strategy and usage probability.
Priority:
This defines the priority of the item within the alternative item group.
This determines the priority of planned withdrawls of items.
EX Two items are assigned to alternative item group
item A Priority 1
item B Priority 2
The system reads the item A first.
Strategy:
use the strategy to determine how the planned withdrawl is controlled
within the alternative item group.
The strategy should be same for all alternative items within a alternative
item group.
If the value 2( 100% check) is defined for the strategy the first material in
the defined priority sequence for which sufficient quantities are available
are reserved.
Usage Probability:
MRP Plans these alternative material components according to probability
of use.Material requirements for BOM Components are planned according
to usage probability.
The planned withdrawls for the production order are based on the reservation lists.These lists are based on the priority and strategy.

How to define BOM with fixed consumption?

Dear Experts,
I have a factor that fixed consumption 10 + 5 x quantity for a child item, how should I define the BOM?
For instance to produce 1 item, it requires 10 + 5 x 1 = 15
but to produce 2, then 10 + 5 x 2 = 20.
this fixed value 10 is predefined but different for every items.

I can not use a phantom item. a child item has to be one child item. can not be divided into two or more.
In fact, a child item is a solid steel bar so it can not be mixed as powder or liquid.
Is there any other way to do this without using SDK?

Alternate BOM explosion in planned order creation

Dear Experts,
We have maintained a alternate BOM 1 and 2 of a assembly which is defined as a Phantom (E-50). User wants a option of selecting the alternate BOM of this phantom assembly while creating the planned order of Header assembly. Is it possible?How?

Dear Sachin,
In my understanding it's not possible to select the different alternative BOM of a phantom assembly when creating the planned
order for a header material.
But give a try in this way,create 2 production version with different lot size or validity date for each laternative BOM and assign
the value as 2 in BOM selection method in MRP4 view for the phantom assembly.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you are new to the FORUM kinly read the rules first, so that in future you wil avoid posting mulitple questions in same thread.
What is Alternate BOM ?
If you have more than one BOM for same material then each BOM is created as alternate BOM
EX - The BOM for producing sample will not be same as BULK so based on lot size you will have this.
What is Alternate Routing ?
If you have more than one ROUTING for same material then each ROUTING is created as alternate ROUTING
EX - The ROUTING for producing samplING will not be same as BULK so based on lot size you will have this.
How do I create Alternate BOM ? Please give me a step by step procedure
First create a BOM in the CS01 and save it.
Again create a BOM for the same material, the system will give you a message telling Alternate bom created.
You can see the alternate bom number.
How do I create Alternate Routing ? Please give me a step by step procedure
First Create a Group and Group counter 1
Add the second routing as Group counter 2
You can define the Alternate routing / group counters based on the lot size or validity

NO configuration is requried
Creat PRoduction version in C223
Here you define in each production version which is the BOM and routing it has to use.
Each production version you can define it with a lot size or valdiity period.
IN the MRP4 against the selection method you can define how the production version has to be selected.

In my business(Discrete) scenario I have alternate bom and routing has group counters. some times i should use first BOM and First group counter. Then next Bom and next group counter. But lotsize is same( prodcution version how to assign).
When creating production order i should select which ever i need.

Hi,
For your requirement you can define your Order Type Dependent parameters OPL8 as:
Production Version : 1 Manual Selection of production Version.
In this case every time when you creat your Production order System will ask for the Production version to be selected. You need to select the PV manually then only you can proceed further.
This setting is applicable only when the Production Order is Created.
It will not effect the Planned Oredr creation via. MRP Run..

While Create PO Iam not able to find alternate BOM which have mainained 1 2 3 BOMs.
System is showing only 1 Deafule BOM Could please let me know how fix this issue.
Alt BOM is Universal -usage and alternate 1 2 and 3.

If several alternative BOMs exist, there is no possibility
of selecting the desired BOM interactively. Instead,
selection can be controlled via the following mechanisms:
- SELECTION BY QUANTITY:
A lot size interval for which the BOM is valid can be
entered in the BOM header.
A prerequisite is that the Selection method indicator is
not set in the material master record (MRP 4 view).
- SELECTION BY DATE:
Can be set in the IMG under Production -> Basic Data ->
Bill of Material -> Alternative Determination -> Define
Alternative Determination for Multiple BOMs (transaction
OS32). A prerequisite is that the Selection method
indicator the is set to 1 in the material master record
(MRP 4 view).
- SELECTION BY PRODUCTION VERSION:
Can be used if the same material has different BOMs with
different suppliers.
You create different production versions in the material
master record of the assembly (pushbutton in MRP 4 view)
and assign an alternative BOM to the versions on the
detail screen. You then enter the valid production
version in the info record in each case.
If NO selection mechanism has been defined and several
alternatives exist, the FIRST one found is pulled.

For BOM selection, system will check BOM selection method in material master of MRP4 view.
BOM selection by Lot size, Date, Production version & Only by prod version.
Addition to that BOM selection by Selection ID defined in plant parameter. This selection ID consists of BOM priority & Usage.
Manually you can not control BOM selection.
For routing selection, system will check Lot size. If lot size not matched with required qty, system avoid the lot size & consider the date.
In addition to that system will consider Task list type, priority, Usage & Status.
In Order type dependent parameter(OPL8), you can configure whether system should select routing automatically or manually.

How to use alternate payee at the time of P.O

Hi SAP Experts,
Could you please tell me how to use alternate payee for vendors. At my clients place User wants to make alternate payee for some vendors. I have made Alternate payee as optional entry in vendor master data but i would like to know if i have to make any settings because the user wants to see the alternate payee for vendor when they create a purchase order. Anyone please let me know the detailed steps in defining the alternate payee.

alternative payee option are available in two ways which are defined in master level at General data (for corporate decisions) or at company code data level (for individual company decisions)
1.You have option to fix one as default always - only one
2. Alternatively - you have option to select at Doc level - you will be able to define selective few within which u can select at document level.
As payment is linked to Finance level and nothing to do with PO, this will not be available at PO.

The BOM structure is reflected in the different technical categories of BOM provided in the PM system:
Simple BOM
The first BOM that you create for a technical object or material has no defined technical category and a simple structure. It is described as a "simple BOM".
Variant BOM
Variant BOMs have a more complex structure. They are used to group together several BOMs to describe different objects that have a high proportion of identical parts.
Multiple BOM
Multiple BOMs have the most complex structure. They are used to group together several BOMs to describe one object, for which different combinations of materials are used for different production methods. Multiple BOMs are usually used in production planning and have little or no use for plant maintenance.
Note: There is no concept of Alternative BoM for PM.

Alternate BOMs and Purchase Requisitions

The scenario is that the material M1 has two alternate BOMs. These two alternate BOMs(A1 & A2) are specific to two different vendors(V1 & V2). During the planned order conversion to a Purchase Requisition, the business needs to decide/assign the vendor based on the component material availability as per the BOM. We creatred production versions(P1 & P2 ) for A1 & A2 and and assigned them to the respective PIRs.
(1) M1>P1>A1>PIR1>V1
(2) M1>P2>A2>PIR2>V2.
When the user picks vendor V2 at the pur req., the system defualts to the A1 BOM but NOT to A2 BOM. However, on converting the pur req to a PO, the BOM picked up is A2.
The question is, the release strategy id defined at the pur req level and not at the PO level (business decision), the person who releases the pur req does not know if A2 BOM is assigned to it or not. Is there a way to show that the A2 bom is picked up at the pur req level?

How to create Alternative Bom by given inputs

Hi to all,
I need to create BOM with alternative number.
my inputs are
BOM Header
Material, plant, BOM usage, Alternate BOM, BOM status, Base Qty, Valid From, valid to
BOM Item
Item number, item category, component, component description, UOM, valid from, valid to, item ID, QTY
if i use CSAP_MAT_BOM_CREATE to create BOM , it will not create alternative number
if i use BAPI_MATERIAL_BOM_GROUP_CREATE , does my input value are enough to create alternative bom.
please can any one, put some light on it, i search SDN ,but i dont know how to create alternative bom with input provided.
i shall be thankful to you for this.
