How to define reading order independent of pages?

I need to use the reading order tools to make PDF files accessible. The document I'm currently working with is a standard trifold brochure, which has the outer panels on the first page of a landscape-oriented, letter-size document, and the inner panels on the second. In this common scenario, the proper reading order, reflecting how one would read a folded hard copy, is:
the right column of page 1 (outside; cover)
the left, center, and right columns of page 2, respectively (inside)
the left and center columns of page 1 (outside; the center column is the back)
Clearly, this requires the linearized reading order to begin on page 1, continue onto page 2, then return to page 1. However, I can find no way to do this with the tools in Acrobat. Can someone please help?
Thanks
(Version information: Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2.0 on Windows XP)

You need to start with a tagged PDF.
The tagged PDF must have a welll-formed structure tree.
From that 'foundation' you can work with read order, reflow & accessibility.
Much of what you desire can be established upfront in the authoring application provided the application provides support for tag management of tagged output PDF.
Currently, the three applications that provide reliable tag management are Adobe's FrameMaker, InDesign and Microsoft Word (via Adobe's PDFMaker or Net-Centric's 'PAWs' plug-in for MS Word.
Other applications provide various degrees of tag management; however, the tagged output PDF's structure tag tree is not as well-formed and calls for more manual editing of the PDF structure tag tree.
I
s your document authored in InDesign? If so, the following may be useful.
"Accessible Content Workflow with Adobe InDesign CS4 and Acrobat 9"

Have your Adobe ID in hand. Tug on the link, sign in with your Adobe ID.
Page opens telling you that the Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro Add-in is opening the meeting room (launch of the recording)
Recording appears in a separate window. If add-in not installed, dialog present to let you install it.

Link to use: "Creating Accessible PDF Documents with Adobe InDesign CS4 (PDF, 292k)"

If your document is authored in Publisher be sure to use Adobe PDFMaker, configured to support accessibility, to provide your initial tagged output PDF. Then, with Acrobat Professional, perform the requisite manual edit of the structure tree.
Something else to look at.
For multi-column PDFs you can manually establish Articles & Article flow to walk a column's thread through pages.

    Hi
    U can't define a standard text in a SAPScript, you call call it only by statament INCLUDE
    /: INCLUDE <ST TEXT NAME> OBJECT TEXT ID ST LANGUAGE <LANGUAGE>
    U can define it by trx SO10.
    If you need to know the text without to print it, you need to use a routine where u can use the fm READ_TEXT in order to find out the text.

  • How to define a application level (or page 0) plsql validation

    I have a selection region on page 0, which I use on a lot of pages. I want to define plsql validation for the items in that region.
    I have already a database package with the validation code.
    Now I want to define each validation only once and not on each page.
    How can I do this.

    Funny thing happened to me on the way to creating my scenario on the apex.oracle.com site. I actually got it to work there. Once I attempted to simplify my scenario to reproduce it on apex.oracle.com, I figured out a simple step (hack?) that I was missing. I put that back into my site and it's working there now as well.
    If it's useful for others who attempt to do something like this, I needed to create a page-level process which doesn't really do anything except have a "NOT NULL" condition of the APP_ERROR_MSG application-level item and then use the "&APP_ERROR_MSG." syntax in the "Success Message" of that process. In essence, I'm telling the process to display the error as a success message when the APP_ERROR_MSG item is not null.
    I feel this is a hack because I would prefer to have this error message processing at the application level rather than at the page level. I was forced to put this process at the page level rather than at the application level because (as of ApEx 2.2) application-level processes do not have a "Success Message" option, only an "Error Message" option, while page-level process have both.
    Maybe my "fix" is truly a hack and I would love to hear that in order to get a better solution, that is more generic and application-level based. My sample app is at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=32483:1 with the username of "devguest" and the same as the password.
    I look forward to hearing some thoughts.

  • How to define the order of GROUPBYs, JOINs and FILTERS in an interface?

    Hello,
    I would like to define an interface which implements the following logic:
    Give me a list of all customers with less then 2 orders in status = 'A'.
    SELECT C.Name, o.cnt
    FROM CUSTOMER C
    LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT cust_id, count(*) cnt FROM ORDERS WHERE status = 'A' GROUP BY cust_id) O
    ON C.cust_id = O.cust_id
    WHERE O.cnt < 2 OR O.cust_id IS NULL
    In this case, the right order of operations is essential:
    First apply filter, then group, then join, then apply the second filter.
    How can I define this in an ODI interface?
    Thanks in advance for any hints...
    Best regards,
    Karol

    Defining JOINs order :
    1 - Go in topology manager and verify that your technologie support the ISO ordered join ( left inner join ...)
    NB : by default Oracle data sources are configured with the old syntax ( ie : columns(+)=expr )
    - Open technology Oracle: Check SQL ISO
    - Go to the SQL tab
    - select "FROM" in the filter place
    - verify the join syntax
    2 - Define the alias order in the source table
    3 - Check the ordered join (ISO) and a num-order on the join operator
    Defining GROUPBYs and FILTERS orders seems to be impossible
    but you can create a mapping as a view and use this mapping as a source in an other one !

  • How to define default option in query page

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to change the default value from "matches" to "Substring" in search page?
    Thanks.

    In config.cfg:
    DefaultSearchOperator=hasAsSubstring
    DefaultNBFieldSearchOperator=hasAsSubstring
    Restart the server.
    (It is worth noting that in 10gr3 since database search is the default they changed the out of the box operator to matches to make sure performance was as good as possible.)

  • How to control portlet order in a page ?

    I have a portal page with three column flow layout. Each column contains unique portlet. I want to execute middle column portlet first, left and then right.
    i am setting some session value in middle portlet, i want to use that value in left & right portlets..
    thanks in advance

    In general, it is a better to not depend on the order of rendering of
    portlets in a given page. For example, a portal admin a create a new
    desktop and add those portlets in a different order.
    An alternative is to set those attributes in a pageflow action (not the
    begin action). Would this work for your use case?

  • Define the order to pickup jars in pickup folder of Virgo Nano

    Hello,
    Could you please let me know how to define the order in which Virgo nano can pick up the jars from pickup folder ? All that i have is set of jars in virgo nano pickup folder and i want virgo to deploy some specific jars first and then deploy the remaining jars later.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    You can use a Plan https://eclipse.org/virgo/documentation/virgo-documentation-3.6.3.RELEASE/docs/virgo-programmer-guide/html/ch04s03.html
    (I use Virgo Server for Tomcat, but I suppose Virgo Nano is the same).

  • Once printed how do you fold a pdf so that pages are in reading order?

    Once printed how do you fold a pdf so that pages are in reading order?

    I think I'm not following you. In my opinion, PDFs can't be folded; and whether pages are in reading order or not cannot be changed by the free Reader.

  • How do I re-order pages or rotate and save?

    My wife and I get faxes electronically and sometimes the person on the other end puts them in the fax machine upside down, so all the pages need to be rotated 360 degrees.  Also, we want to remove the cover page before we save the PDF document and it'd be nice to re-order a few pages that the sender got in the wrong order.
    When we got our first fax, we installed Adobe Reader 7.0 (now 9.1), and although it has a rotate capability, we can't seem to figure out how to save it correctly so it's rotated correctly the next time we view it.  We also can't seem to figure out how to remove a page or re-order pages.
    How do you do this with the reader?  Seems like a common thing to need.
    Since Adobe doesn't appear to have anyone to talk with in sales (tried to call, but after over an hour on hold, we gave up) to find out how to do this, or if there an add-on, or if there another product from Adobe that does this, or if Adobe is even the best product to solve our issue (the faxes can be in Image format or PDF, so maybe Image is a better solution?) can anyone on this forum help?
    We can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars, but if there is an add-on for $29.99 or something, we could probably swing that to solve this problem.
    If Adobe doesn't make a product that can rotate and save, re-order a few pages occasionally, or remove a page, is there another company that makes such a product that is affordable?
    Thanks for any/all input,
    Randy

    Thank you for your reply.  Darn, I was hoping it was in there someplace... especially being able to re-order pages, remove a cover page, simple stuff like that.  While I've been on hold for 2.5+ hours for support from Adobe, I searched through their products, etc... it appears Acrobat would do what we want, but it's aweful expensive for what we need, to simply rotate, remove a cover page, and re-order a few pages.  Acrobat appears to be a product for making all sorts of PDF files, converting, and colaboration, none of which we need.
    Does anyone know if the price of $299 is per PC?  (If so, then it's way out of our reach)  My wife and I each have a home PC and each have a laptop, we are a very small company.  If I was to splurge the big money and buy acrobat, I'd want to install it on our 4 PC's, not just one.
    Thanks for any info... doesn't appear Adobe has Sales people or dept... so I don't know where else to get this info... now it's been almost 3 hours on hold, wonder if this is really a support number or just a music channel!  Haha!
    Thanks again for your help... I'm going to search and see if there is a cheaper verson of a PDF product that will do the simple stuff we need without paying for all the stuff we don't need.
    Randy (Who's ear is about to fall off listening to Adobe music channel called support)  ;-)

  • How to Change the order or location of pages within Chapters

    I am using the iBook Author very often. Right now I'm confronted with the problem, that I want to change the sequence of Pages WITHIN Chapters.
    Furthemore, and even a greater problem, when writing books, it can happen, that you have to change the sequence a bit.
    Let's say you have a book with 10 Chapters and decide afterwards, to take 2 Chapters to be part of new Section (which is in new Chapter).
    So the questions are:
    1) how can I re-order Pages within Chapters
    2) how can I re-order Pages into other Chapters
    3) how can I move Pages from one Chapter into a new Section
    ... hope someone has the solution

    >Furthemore, and even a greater problem, when writing books, it can happen, that you have to change the sequence a bit.
    I'd like to caution your that such non-liner editing can be a quick way to corrupt a book, so try to resist doing that as much as possible.
    So the questions are:
    1) how can I re-order Pages within Chapters
    2) how can I re-order Pages into other Chapters
    3) how can I move Pages from one Chapter into a new Section
    You can only copy/paste content from one page's content into another in those examples, either by replacing existing content, or by inserting a blank page in the new target location and then deleting the source page when done.

  • How to define the Market Sales KF, in order to receive the desired result

    Hi all,
    I dont know how to define the Market Sales Kefigure, in order to get the following result. Any hint is more than welcome.
    Prd_ID = Product ID
    PS  =  Product Sales
    M_ID = Market ID
    MS  = Market Sales
    MS%  = Market Share ( formula in BEX PS/MS)
    <b>
    Prd_ID;PS;M_ID;MS;MS%</b>
    A00001;10;MRK1;100;10%
    A00002;20;MRK1;100;20%
    <b>SBTOT</b>;30;MRK1;100;30%
    B00001;40;MRK2;200;20%
    B00002;30;MRK2;200;15%
    <b>SBTOT</b>;70;MRK2;200;35%
    <b>GTOTL</b>;100;MRKX;300;33,3%
    Products A00001 and A00002 compete in the same market. So the individual marketshares should be calculated against the market MRK1(200), e.g. 40/200 and 30/200.
    The totals now, of the A00001 and A00002 products(3040) should be compared against <b>the same market</b> MRK1(200),</b> and <b>not against</b> the MRK1MRK1(200+200).
    Thanks
    Vasso Siagri<b></b><b></b><b></b>

    Maik,
    thank you for your answer, but I am afraid this is not giving the desired results.
    What I want----
    >What am getting
    Prd_ID;PS;M_ID;MS;MS%
    A00001;10;MRK1;100;10%  ---> 10;MRK1;200;5%
    A00002;20;MRK1;100;20%  ---> 20;MRK1;200;10%
    SBTOT;30;MRK1;100;30%   ---> 30;MRK1;200;15%
    B00001;40;MRK2;200;20%  ---> 40;MRK2;400;10%
    B00002;30;MRK2;200;15%  ---> 30;MRK2;400;7,5%
    SBTOT;70;MRK2;200;35%   ---> 70;MRK2;400;17,5%
    GTOTL;100;MRKX;300;33,3% ---> 1000;MRKX;600;16,7%
    Neither resticted KF restricted on Market ID is working for many markets; it is working only if you analyze one market id.
    Any idea? bw idea? What actually I need is aggregation of unique records in terms on market id.

  • How to search PDF in other than page order

    We need to search a PDF though not in sequence. We are after suggestions on how to approach the issue please.  Should we use JavaScript, use the API, consider Indexes, set the reading order, etc.
    Our PDF is 1000 odd pages with a Table of Contents at the front and 2 level index at the back.  The Level 1 Index are main entries and level 2 indented below each level 1 are secondary entries with additional terms to put the main term in context and allow users to click the appropriate term to be positioned in the document.  eg: a level 1 index entry of "headers" follows with the secondary associations:
    headers, 6.10
         see also protective markings
         full stops not used after, 4.7c
         in slides for presentations, 14.25
         spacing at top of page, 6.15b–17
    When we do a search, we would like it to search firstly the level 1 Index items, then the level 2 Index items, then the rest of the document - and position both the search results panel and the document view panel at the first location found.
    We tried changing the reading order though have only been able to set this within a page.
    We can add html style markup if needed eg DL DT DD tags though this would involve programming to use it ...
    If there is not an out of the box solution we are happy to pay for some development.
    Thanks, Erica.

    not yet answered - though transferred to a more appropriate forum.
    thanks.

  • TouchUp Reading Order tool moves or just deletes page content!?

    Using Acrobat X to make documents 508 compliant. I've had a number of issues when trying to tag a figure, it ends up moving the figure to a different page or deleting it altogether. Also I've has issues when trying to adjust the reading order, content is moved or deleted.
    How can adjusting structure completely delete content? Really bad bug. Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks.

    Thank you for your comment. However I do not think this is a workable solution.
    My structure in the tags panel is ordered correctly, and the document exported from inDesign is tagged and ordered correctly. However, when I look at the reading order tab the reading order is wrong. I need to use the reading order tab to reorganize the order in which items are read by screen readers (this is as according to Adobe training, e.g. http://tv.adobe.com/watch/accessibility-adobe/preparing-indesign-files-for-accessibility/). Is there another tool that will allow me to organize the reading/tab order (without deleting some of the content in my tables)?
    I am also having the additional problem that sometimes, not always, when I use the reading order panel to reorganize reading order, my tables lose their tagging as tables - I am worried that this will mean screen readers will not recognize the data as a table and will not read it accordingly (by header cell and then content cell).
    Can you provide any help?
    Thank you.
