How to delete alias in launchpad?

I have accidentally created an alias for Quicktime Player, which I'm unable to delete. It appears in the launchpad only but I don't seem to be able to remove it. When I hold Control-Option-Command, the X doesn't come up for this application. It does for some other applications in the launchpad but not Quicktime Player.
Has anyone had a similar problem and does anyone know how to remove it?
Thanks

If the icon shows a question mark in the middle when you click on it then the alias is gone and all you need to do is drag the icon to the trash.
If the icon still launches the app then you have an active icon.  Launchpad will find virtually all apps or app alias files on your system.
It too me several minutes to find and delete all of my redundant ...alias icons. It would have taken much longer but I had almost all of my alias files stored in stacks.  Delete the stack folder and the icons weren't active.  Drag them to the trash and the icons are gone.

  • How to delete applications from mac pro?

I think many people struggling at "How to delete appalications from Mac pro ,just because you made some mistakes or curious !" I know it is a bit difficut for people who are new users for the Mac .
If you really don't want them ,you can delete them easily,
As all you know after you download appalications from anywhere  ,it could be from apple app store or from other websites. They all can be disspeared if you don't like them .
First , If you installed from apple app store  it will be really easily  just click at the app on the launchpad, after few seconds all the apps will be all shaking like leaves ,yes they are scared .(No No  don't delete me  I am helpful !) Ok yes  that is a little joke ! so what you can see now there is a small "x" at the top right corner .Can you see them ? just click the "x" And they will gone .
Second step. This is only for you downoaded from other websites , In that case  , you just skip first step come to here  in order to save you some golden time .
You can delete them from the launchpad , I have tried many times . i tried to drug them in the the trash . But after them all jump back to where they are , So you need to open the Finder ---> click the download -----> find the file which is belong to the app (make sure ) ------->click it  -----> drug it into the trash. then you can hear a little sound like you through it into the bin. it is really humanny  isn't it ? then go back to the finder again .---->click the application -------> find the icon on there which is you just drag into the trash.  do it again . take this one into the trash as well  then you will find the icon on the launchpad is disppeared . at the end don't forget to empty your trash   After that all job done , it is been deleted  ,
    Well done !
Hope this could help all of your!
    Thanks for reading !

  • Deleting alias (moving to trash) has ended in disaster!

    Hi
I am very new mac as will probably become apparent. My problem is this; I have recently been taking a lot of photos on my phone and have been storing these images in Dropbox (my phones android, and so they don't get along)  so I can instantly access them on my new mac mini (less than 3 months old). I decided i wanted to move the files from my reapidly filling dropbox to a more permanent setup. So i simply dragged and dropped the desired folder from Dropbox  into finder but in my haste I dropped the folder into applications instead of pictures. This proved to be a fatal error.
Having realised this I tried to correct the mistake by reselecting the images/ video clips and dragging them over into pictures... Sorted. Apparently not. After some time of the little colourful wheel spinning. Nothing appeared to have happened, the files were still in applications in front of me. So I repeated the action, again the little wheel, again nothing moved. So I checked pictures. There were now 2 "copies" of all the files from applications. Job done I deleted the unwanted images from applications. Returning to pictures I realised that they were in fact not copies but instead "alias" something quite frankly I had never heard of. Disgruntled I realised I had deleted all of my actual pictures and replaced them instead with double the number of now apparently useless aliases ( I had of course in my wisdom cleared out the trash bin only moments before so the originals have gone). I must now admit that there was originally over 1000 images, which has now doubled to some 2000 aliases.
Being a novice I starting clicking the aliases to see if anything would happen, or more appropriately how to delete them. This resulted in that dialogue box I'm sure everybody knows about ( delete or fix) popping up after about 20 minutes of the colourful thing again. After various freezing, dialogue boxes and general delay I tried to shut down finder ( it was desperately trying to find loads of originals I knew it would never find and was getting in a tizzy) via activity monitor. This resulted in at first a denial ( a box telling me it was busy ) and then a virtual implosion as I rather stupidly tried to find the bit of activity monitor that would shut off the bloomin trying to find original thingy. With nothing but a blank screen in front of me I did the only i knew how. Turned it off and on again.
It seemed to work, the stupid things are still in pictures in finder but at least it booted up ok. This time I just tried highlighting a bunch of them and clicking go to trash. This took aaaaaggggggeeeessss. Eventually I got under 100 of them deleted. And then I gave up and went to bed. Today I have started to try again. Growing impatient of trying to delete them in tiny batches I hoped if I set them all to delete and leave it going eventually time heal the wound. Alas not to be. Highlighting them and right clicking to bring up the box that would allow me to say delete caused ( after 20 more minutes of whirly colourful thing) it to try to open the delete or fix dialogue box for every single one at once. With over 2000 dialogue boxes trying to open at once it took it nearly an hour to give up completely of what I can only assume was a mac mini version of a massive stroke.
The current situation is thus; me quietly trying to delete them one at a time but even this approach is taking nearly five minutes just for one to delete.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    A) what have I done?
    B) how do I fix it?
    C) And how do I delete the bloomin things!!!
( pretty sure the operating system is completely up to date Mountain Lion if that at all helps)

    Hello & welcome.
If you want to try to recover those pics you must stop using the Mac for anything, as the sectors that might still hold those files will get used by the OS.
It may be possible to recover some erased ones, but you must quit using the Computer immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.
Either boot this one in Target mode...

    Hi,
To delete a member you use the Operation column, the following values can be used.
Update – This is the default and is used if not populated, it Add, updates, moves the member being loaded.
Delete Level 0 - Deletes the member being loaded if it has no children
Delete Idescendants –Deletes the member being loaded and all of its descendants.
Delete Descendants –Deletes the descendants of the member being loaded, but does not delete the member itself.
Does the member you trying to change to Revenue have a variance reporting set to "Expense" as it will need to be set to "Non Expense"
Also in your interface you can add logging options in the IKM, this maybe will give a clearer indication where your problem lies.
    Cheers

  • How can delete application on lion

how can i delete any application on Mac Os X Lion from launchpad?

I don't believe you can delete apps from Launchpad.  You can remove the app via the Application folder in Finder or you could also use an app that helps remove all traces of an App, such as AppZapper or AppDelete.

  • Deleted alias shown as inviting email address in iCal invitation

I just discovered that an already deleted alias is shown as inviting email address in my iCal invitation to others. I double checked this in the iCloud Mail account settings: The alias is definitely gone there, but still used for invitations.
Does anyone have an idea how this can happen? How to fix this?
    Thanks!

Interestingly this only happens when creating events on the iPhone. When I create an event on icloud.com in the browser the sender email address is correct.

  • Maxl  script for delete alias

    Hi All,
wen im loading the all the dimensions we have to delete all alises and reload all the dimensions
How can i delete alias for every load using maxl or any thing else
    Thanks

    Dear user98631,
I was going to refer you to this link: Re: HOW can i delete the members in dim using MAXL but I find that you are one and the same as the OP of that thread so you've already got the gen on what MaxL can and cannot do.
So, briefly, there is no MaxL command to delete aliases.
What you could do is create a dimension load rule that load blanks to aliases. This would require a rebuild of each dimension that you wanted to impact.
    I'm a little confused, though.
    You wrote:
wen im loading the all the dimensions we have to delete all alises and reload all the dimensions
How can i delete alias for every load using maxl or any thing else Do you want to delete the aliases from existing dimensions, or delete all of the dimensions and rebuild them from scratch?
If you want to do the latter, the previous thread linked above ought to do it. If you don't want aliases, just ignore the column with the aliases in your build table/file.
    Does this answer your question?

  • How to delete "other"

i have a 500 gb hard drive and 341 gb is filled with something called "other"
i dont know how to delete it

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Make sure you donot have any data in cube. If you have some data in cube, then you will not be able to see Delete option.
Right click on the cube-->Delete data.
Then double click on the cube>Goto Edit mode> select the IO under that Dimension> right click> now you will be able to see the Delete option (provided you have deleted all the date from Cube)
    Then right click on Dimension-->Delete
