The most common reason is that your email account was hacked on the server. They got those addresses from the messages in your sent foldert, not from the address book on your Mac. Change the password on your email account a strong one and there's a high chance it will stop.
Yep, had it only happen once, but a quick change of password as MadMacs0 suggested solved the issue very quickly and very effectively. Try adding a Capital or & % $ or similar into your password to gaurentee it is extremely strong because of the increased amount of variables.

  • HT5312 How to delete rescue address

I would like to change my apple id but its always saying that it should not be same as my rescue email address but i don't know how to delete my rescue email. I already tried the instruction given here by i don't see that part where you can edit rescue email. Please help me.. Thanks!!

The instructions on the page that you posted from should work :
Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
Click Password and Security (on the left-hand side of the screen)
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
After you've validated your identity by correctly answering your security questions, click Edit to the right of your rescue email address. (which should be below the listof your 3 questions)
Once you've finished editing your rescue email address, click the Save button directly below the email field.
How far through those steps do you get ?

  • How to delete old addresses

Hello, I have had a good bit of time spent on this today, and with alot of input from paypal (to no avail) I have sorted it for myself. If you have loads of old addresses that are now redundant, this is how you get rid of them (its probably a bit long winded, but it is the ONLY way I have found to do it, not even 3 service representatives could do it.....). I will take you through baby steps (stick with me), its a bit odd, but it works. 1. When you have logged into paypal, click on the gear cog (near the log out button)2. Your name then appears in big letters on the middle-ish of the page3. Next to my name, it says "edit"4. Click edit.5. It will ask you if you want to change your name, click cancel6. It will then take you to a more in-depth "My Profile" page7. Third option down will be, "address" (Name, email, address). You can then see all your previous address and remove as necessary.8. Ta-dah! It should now be only the addresses you wish to keep I know its convoluted, but it worked for me. Good luck!!

Hi, I have a little more info on this topic that I'd like to share.  I thought I had deleted all the old addresses a few months ago -- my current address was the only one that showed up on the main profile page.  Today, I used PayPal to make a purchase online, and it changed the shipping address to one of the addresses I thought I had removed! I found your post, and found the secret profile page.  It still showed 11 addresses, but I got an error when I tried to delete anything, so I called Customer Support.  After fighting with the automated system for a while, I finally got a person and explained it to her, including how to find the secret page.  It took her a while, but she was able to delete all the old addresses!  Much happiness and cheering ensued. So the moral of the story is that, if you can't delete them yourself, MAYBE an informed Customer Service person can do it.

  • How to delete an address which shows, but is not in the address book.

Sometimes when I address a message I see three identical correct addresses and one old one that is no longer good. How can I delete all but one of the addresses? They do not appear in the person's contact info or on the address book list. Thank you, Marty

All suggestions come from one of your address books. You have two by default in Thunderbird. The Personal and the Collected books. Find the problem addresses and fix or delete them.

  • Mail - how to delete 1 of many legitimate 'duplicate' emails?

I have my mail client ('mail') configured to receive mail directed to multiple email addresses ([email protected], [email protected], etc) and often receive the exact same email messages to each account. This is intentional for a host of reason that matter to me.
Prior to moving to Lion, I would receive and see both messages in my inbox. Now I see only 1 however the the opened mesasge indicates there is 1 duplicate. Other devices (blackberry) and mail readers (Thunderbird) see each message as an individual message.
How can I *easily* delete both messages -- or -- how can I *easily* delete the duplilcate and retain one?
I've searched everywhere for an answer and while many people report problems with 'errornous duplicate' messages - the ones I have are actual legitimate dups - I just want to easily manage them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • How to delete my iCloud using an old email no longer in use.

I have an old AOL account that I no longer use.  I tried resetting the password but that didn't work.  So every time I go to delete the account it asks for my password which I do not know or not able to get anymore.  Does anyone know a way to delete it?  I wanna use my current email address and back up everything to the iCloud.

If you want to delete it on your iOS device, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap the account on the Accounts list, then tap Delete Account at the bottom.

  • How to delete the attachments of several ancient emails simultaneously?

In order to diminish the space used by Thunderbird, I'd like to delete the attachments, without deleting the email. How to do this for 50 emails all together? I only found a way to do it one by one, email after email, which takes much time… Thank you!

Thunderbirds add-ons are platform neutral, so of course it works on OSX. You may however have tried to install it in Firefox which tells you bad things about not installing.

  • How to delete iCloud account, with non-existing email as ID, on iPad?

Cannot delete iCloud account (which happens to have a non-existing ID) on iPad in order to have same account as on iPhone - keep trying using current Apple ID and PW but to no avail - iCloud settings continue to insist that Apple ID/PW is wrong but they are the ones I have in "manage my ID"???

If the ID is your the iPad is signed into is your old ID, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPad on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How to transfer Mac Address Book to Comcast email Address Book?

I recently upgraded from a dialup modem to Comcast Cable high speed internet. Previously, I used aol for email and wanted to change to Comcast email. I used the aol Service Assistant to successfully transfer my aol address book into my Mac Address Book. But now, I can't find a way to transfer the Mac Address Book to Comcast. I loaded Outlook Express and tried to transfer the Mac AB , but it is not a text file, so I was unable to transfer. Comcast supports Outlook Express and they have an import protocol. How can I save the Mac Address Book as a text file and then transfer to Outlook Express? Any suggestions to avoid rekeying the entire address book would be appreciated.
    Mac Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hello Dennis.
If you are wanting to transfer your Address Book contacts to Comcast's server stored address when accessing your Comcast email account via webmail with a browser, you don't need Outlook Express to do so.
You can use a utility called Address Book Exporter which exports your Mac OS X Address Book contacts as a tab-delimited plain text file which should work for importing all contacts to Comcast's server stored address book.
