No, iPhoto files take up disk space, not memory. So if you think you're going to save memory be getting rid of them, you need to reconsider that idea.
You can move your entire iPhoto Library to an external drive and import new photos into it on that drive, so if that's what you want to do, these are the steps:
1. Format the external drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
2. Quit iPhoto
3. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
4. Hold down the option key while launching iPhoto. From the menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on itl be the default location of your library.
5. Test the new library destination and when you're sure everything is as it should be, delete it on your Macintosh HD.

I have a project with a lot of artboards with content set-up inside each artboard - actually a series of icons.
I'd like to resize all of the artboards and the content, keeping the same line widths.
I can use the 'save for web' feature to scale the existing artboards/content, but I don't want the line widths to be scaled too.
I have failed to find a script or feature that would allow me to do this and save me from manually resizing every artboard and the content.
I'll immediately hold my hands up to having a minimalist knowledge of illustrator.
Any thoughts? I'm surprised it's not a feature of 'save for web'.
Currently using CS6.

No, rescaling the paths inside illustrator keeps the path width the same. It's the 'export for web' dialog upscaling the content is also upscaling the path widths. I can understand why it does that, but surprised it it ignores the scaling strokes option and doesn't provide that option itself.

I am using Mail to receive my email messages from the University's IMAP server. My problem is that I need to keep copies of my sent and received emails for archives on my computer but not on the server because space is limited. However, when I check the 'remove messages from server' box in the preferences, it also removes them all from my Mail inbox and sent mail folders. Consequently, I'm constantly needing to go to the server (once a week) and manually delete the messages when my folder is too full and then I lose all of my messages.
Can someone please tell me how I can keep all of my sent, received and trashed emails on my computer without them being stored on the server?

Eric is right. An IMAP account is designed specifically to keep email on line, on a server somewhere on the planet. That way you can use any machine anywhere and see your email. A POP account is designed to actually download your email to the specific machine that you are using and remove it from the server. Although there are ways around that...
So if you want to keep an email on your computer and you want to delete it from the server, you have to make an "On my Mac" mailbox.

Aperture added a second view to your library.
You now have an additional section in your Source list , called events. But this section lists exactly the same events that you are seeing in the "Events" view. Don't delete anything from there, or you will delete your photos. But you can press the "Hide" button to collaps that section. But someday you may want to use this list. It makes it very easy to move photos between events.

You need to clarify what you are asking.
An iphoto installation has two major parts: 1. The application or program - that's the software and 2. The Library - that's where your actual pictures are.
So when you say:
I want to keep using the old Iphoto program on the new Imac. There is already an IPhoto program on the new Imac but I do not want to add or delete from that one.
It sounds like you want to move the application and not the Library. Most folks want to move the Library, and it makes no sense to have two versions of the application on your mac.

If you connect your iPad to your computer via USB, when it opens on the left hand side of the iTunes screen, click it once to open it. Then click on the Photos tab and uncheck the photos/albums you had synced to your iPad, which you no longer wish to keep there. You do the opposite of how you got them on your phone, you unsync the pics using iTunes.
