    HOW TO DELETE THE ARCHIVE LOGS ON THE STANDBY
    I have set the RMAN CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY; on my physical standby server.
    My archivelog files are not deleted on standby.
    I have set the CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default on the Primary server.
    I've checked the archivelogs with the FRA and they are not beign deleted on the STANDBY. Do I have to do something for the configuation to take effect? Like run a RMAN backup?
    I've done a lot ofresearch and i'm getting mixed answers. Please help. Thanks in advanced.
    J

    Setting the Policy will not delete the Archive logs on the Standby. ( I found a thread where the Data Guard product manager says "The deletion policy on both sides will do what you want" ). However I still
    like to clean them off with RMAN.
    I would use RMAN to delete them so that it can use that Policy are you are protected in case of Gap, transport issue etc.
    There are many ways to do this. You can simply run RMAN and have it clean out the Archive.
    Example :
    #!/bin/bash
    # Name: db_rman_arch_standby.sh
    # Purpose: Database rman backup
    # Usage : db_rman_arch_standby <DBNAME>
    if [ "$1" ]
    then DBNAME=$1
    else
    echo "basename $0 : Syntax error : use . db_rman_full <DBNAME> "
    exit 1
    fi
    . /u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/env/${DBNAME}.env
    echo ${DBNAME}
    MAILHEADER="Archive_cleanup_on_STANDBY_${DBNAME}"
    echo "Starting RMAN..."
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / catalog <user>/<password>@<catalog> << EOF
    delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';
    exit
    EOF
    echo `date`
    echo
    echo 'End of archive cleanup on STANDBY'
    mailx -s ${MAILHEADER} $MAILTO < /tmp/rmandbarchstandby.out
    # End of ScriptThis uses ( calls an ENV) so the crontab has an environment.
    Example ( STANDBY.env )
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    ULIMIT=unlimited
    ORACLE_SID=STANDBY
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0.2
    ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
    LIBPATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib
    TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_BASE/dba_tool/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:$HOME/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin:/usr/lbin:/GNU/bin/make:/u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/bin:/home/oracle/utils/SCRIPTS:/usr/local/bin:.
    #export TERM=linux=80x25 wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
    export TERM=vt100
    export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_SID ORACLE_TERM ULIMIT
    export ORACLE_HOME
    export LIBPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH ORA_NLS33
    export TNS_ADMIN
    export PATH
    export MAILTO=?? your email hereNote use the env command in Unix to get you settings.
    There are probably ten other/better ways to do this, but this works.
    other options ( you decide )
    Configure RMAN to purge archivelogs after applied on standby [ID 728053.1]
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/rman-dataguard-10g-wp-1-129486.pdf
    Maintenance Of Archivelogs On Standby Databases [ID 464668.1]
    Tip I don't care myself but in some of the other forums people seem to mind if you use all caps in the subject. They say it shouting. My take is if somebody is shouting at me I'm probably going to just move away.

  • How to delete old archived logs

    hai i am running oracle 9i in archive log mode
    my disk is about 90% full
    pls tell me how to delete archive logs that are very older

    Hi Rajeskm,
    First of all, archives should not be deleted, depending your backup policie, you can need them in a recovery. But if you want delete them, do:
    find <log_archive_dest>/ -name *.rdo (or extention used by you) mtime +<days ago> -exec rm{}\
    Explanation:
    Find -- The first, and most obvious, use is find's ability to locate old, big, or unused files, or files that you forgot where they are.
    mtime -- The mtime--modify time--is the time when the actual contents of a file was last modified. This is the time displayed in a long directoring listing (ls -l).
    rm -- Deletes a file without confirmation (by default).

  • How to delete the archived messages?

    Archiving is setup and running in our PI systems.  ( I used the SDN doc, "Archive and Delete Messages in SAP. XI: A Step-by-Step Guide")
    I'm now looking to automate the deletion of the archived messages (NOT the deletion of the original message in the DB, but the data that has been written out to the O/S -- the actual archived data file.
    Any pointers on how to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Joe Rufo

    The archive job creates the files in the files system you configured. These files contain the archived messages..
    What you can do is run periodic jobs to deletes files which are older than a certain date...
    If there are certain types of messages you want to hold on for a longer period...then archive them seperately... and run a different batch job to clear the files...

  • How to delete iMessage archive

    Hello,
    I have used Messages on a work machine and it has synced all of my iMessage history from my iPhone (as it should have, and as I wanted). It's time for me to return this machine, and I'm trying to erase all of my chat history (the system user account either cannot or is not being deleted).
    I have removed:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat
    ~/Library/Messages
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iChat.*
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMessage.*
    Yet when I open Messages, the chat histories all remain. The iMessages account has been removed, so it's not re-syncing. Where are these messages being stored?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi,
    iMessages "History" - the bit that refills a chat with old info when you reconnect to someone - is held in chat.db items in ~/Library/Messages.
    IF you also set it up to Save on Close it will also save all Chats from iMessages as well as other Accounts (AIM, Jabber, Bonjour, Yahoo) in the Archive folder.
    This is in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages.
    You seem to be saying you deleted the containing folders so the info should have gone.
    The .plists for iChat that have extra bits in them refer to the Account types (AIM, Jabber, Yahoo and Subnet for Bonjour) the Recent List (LSShared) and the Status Messages for the Buddy Lists (*er StatusMessages)
    You will also need the com.apple.imagent.plist (this holds all the account info for accounts that Login.
    The iMessages account details are held in com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist
    I would also delete anything that listed IDS as they also show the Apple ID and any iPhone Number
    There are now many of them if you set up Text Forwarding for SMS as well.
    I would also delete all the IDS items listed in the KeychainAccess App.
    Also in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.soagent/Data/Library/Preferences delete the Contents.
    This holds mainly Alias items to the .plists in ~/Library/Preferences but some are actual .plists and relate to Messages.
    I would tend to clear all conversations of the individual iMessages (or other messages) then delete the conversations before removing the Apple ID from the Messages > Preferences > Accounts > Sign Out button and remove the madrid item once the app has been closed.
    I have seen one other post where someone said the Messages main window continued to show Chats after the Archive and Chat.db items had been removed.
    I wasn't sure they had removed chats from the main window at any stage. If they are not removed and seem to persist there must be a different mechanism to re-populate the window which I am not sure where it would be.

  • How to delete all email attachments to free up space?

    I'm on a MBP with a 240 GB SSD. Somehow my Mail folder is 90 GB!
    I'd like to have an expert tell me how to go about deleting all of the attachments from my SSD so that I can free up space.
    My set up is several work email accounts, and one personal email account, on Mail.app, all IMAP via Google Apps and Gmail.
    I found this, and tried it, but only freed up 4 GB, which doesn't make sense to me???

    Thanks!

    Could you break this down for me more specifically?  Hit menu after I've gotten into my email?  I don't see delete in the menu (only the box to the left of the actual email itself).  Thanks for any help!!

    But you can probably find the history of OS command been run with history command :). You can get the date and time.

  • How to delete archive log files from ASM through Grid Control

    Hi
    Anybody suggest me how to delete archive log files from ASM through Grid Control.
    Thanks

    It is important to specify both, the oracle version and os version when posting, so confusions can be avoided.
    In this particular case, since you are referring to asm and grid control you could be talking about either 10gR1, 10gR2 or 11gR1; but I strongly suggest you to avoid us to be guessing. In either case, you sould go to the maintenance tab of the target database and program a scheduled 'delete noprompt obsolete;' procedure. This will purge the information stored at the Flash recovery area, which I assume you have declared inside the ASM.

  • Any suggestions how can I delete or archive items with DocTitle as *.html ?

    Any suggestions how can I delete or archive items with DocTitle as *.html ? These are the email templates checked in by Fusion Apps, and all I know are the DocTitles.
    Archive servervice seems a better way to delete items at same time keep a backup. but not sure what's the correct way to setup/use the "aExportQuery" parameter. Seems it's been ignored from the ADD_ARCHIVE and EXPORT_ARCHIVE idccommands, codes listed below.
    @Properties LocalData
    IdcService=ADD_ARCHIVE
    IDC_Name=CommonDomain_ucm11g_cs
    aArchiveName=archive_test
    aArchiveDescription=this is an archive test
    aCopyWebDocuments=0
    aDoReplace=0
    aExportQuery=Standard Query ValuePanel UseExportDate 0 AllowExportPublished 0 AllRevisions 1 LatestRevisions 0 NotLatestRevisions 0 MostRecentMatching 0 CurrentIndex 0 Clauses dDocTitle:contains:.html CustomQuery dDocTitle%LIKE%'#%.html#%' IsCustom 0
    @end
    @Properties LocalData
    IdcService=EXPORT_ARCHIVE
    aArchiveName=archive_emt
    IDC_Name=CommonDomain_ucm11g_cs
    aExportQuery=Standard Query ValuePanel UseExportDate 0 AllowExportPublished 0 AllRevisions 1 LatestRevisions 0 NotLatestRevisions 0 MostRecentMatching 0 CurrentIndex 0 Clauses dDocTitle:contains:.html CustomQuery dDocTitle%LIKE%'#%.html#%' IsCustom 0
    dataSource=RevisionIDs
    aDoDelete=1
    @end
    <<EOD>>

    You could use the Archiver app. You can use that app as-needed or set it up so that all items are setup to delete once they're checked in.

  • How to delete archive log on standby site

    hi
    i configured dataguard on 10g. could anyone suggest how to delete archived log on standby site..

    Hi,
    There is no automatic feature out-of-the-box but you have the following views:
    1) Shows archive logs transfered:
    select sequence#, first_time, next_time from v$archived_log order by sequence#;
    2) Shows archive logs applied:
    select sequence#, archived, applied from v$archived_log order by sequence#;
    If you see your archivelogs applied you can safely remove archive log files from your disk. It is your decision if you keep or delete them completely.

  • How to delete archive logs on the standby database....in 9i

    Hello,
    We are planning to setup a data guard (Maximum performance configuration ) between two Oracle 9i databases on two different servers.
    The archive logs on the primary servers are deleted via a RMAN job bases on a policy , just wondering how I should delete the archive logs that are shipped to the standby.
    Is putting a cron job on the standby to delete archive logs that are say 2 days old the proper approach or is there a built in data guard option that would some how allow archive logs that are no longer needed or are two days old deleted automatically.
    thanks,
    C.

Check this note.
    *Configure RMAN to purge archivelogs after applied on standby [ID 728053.1]*
    Still it is on 9i, So you need to schedule RMAN job or Shell script file to delete archives.
    Before deleting archives
    1) you need to check is all the archives are applied or not
    2) then you can remove all the archives completed before 'sysdate-2';
    RMAN> delete archvielog all completed before 'sysdate-2';
    As per your requirement.

  • HELP....How to delete archive log from v$archived_log table...

    Hi All
    Our prod database was running in Archive log mode and now it is in NO Archive log mode. I deleted all archive logs from the disk but I can still see them in v$archived_log table. How do I delete them from this table.
    Environment is Oracle8i(8.1.7) running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
    Thank you
    Amit

    Hi,
    Recreating the controlfile is the only way to force a cleanup of all entries in v$archived_log.
    You can see information on Metalink Note:1012929.6

  • How to delete archive log by RMAN.

    Hi All,
    How to delete archive log by RMAN and what is the difference between
    delete all input & all delete input in RMAN backup.

    plus archivelog all delete inputYou get an error on the syntax.
    "PLUS ARCHIVELOG" does not allow the "ALL" keyword.
    (See "backupSpecOperand" in the RMAN Documentation of the BACKUP command syntax).
    However, "DELETE INPUT" allows the optional "ALL" keyword as in "DELETE ALL INPUT" to delete from all archivelog destinations.
    I guess that you have confused the "ALL" keyword in "BACKUP ARCHIVELOG" as being possible in "BACKUP .. PLUS ARCHIVELOG".
    "ALL" is allowed in "BACKUP ARCHIVELOG" but not in "BACKUP .. PLUS ARCHIVELOG".
