    Hi Caveman337,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below will explain how to delete an old iTunes backup.  Before you do this, I would suggest creating an iCloud backup of your iPhone.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977
    Back up using iCloud
If you're using iCloud, it can automatically back up your content. Use these steps to turn on iCloud Backup:
Tap Settings > iCloud > Backup. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
Tap iCloud Backup to turn it on.
    Tap Back Up Now.
After you turn on iCloud Backup, iCloud will back up your content automatically. You can return to this screen to see when the last back up happened.
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4946
    Where your backups are stored
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Delete a backup
If you want to delete a backup created by iTunes:
    Open iTunes Preferences:
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences. Learn how to turn on menus in Windows 7 and 8.
Click Devices. (The iOS device doesn't need to be connected.)
iTunes will show the phone number, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, and serial number of the backed up iPhone when you position your mouse pointer over a backup. (Only the serial number will be shown for iPad and iPod touch). You can use this to find the backup you want to delete.
Select the backup you want to remove.
    Click Delete Backup.
When prompted, confirm that you want to remove the selected backup by clicking Delete Backup.
Click OK to close the iTunes Preferences Window.
Backups that have a date and time stamp in the backup name are copies of backups created by restoring the iOS device. The date and time in the left column are when the restore-from-backup occurred. The date and time in the right column are the last synced date; this shows how current the data is.
I hope this information helps ....

  • HT1766 delete corrupted iphone back up

How do you delete corrupted Iphone 4s back files from your computer so you can back up your iphone like you normally would?

    From the web:
iPhone Backup Location for Mac OS X
in Mac OS X your iPhone files are backed up at the following location:
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The (~) symbol signifies your home directory, which is the same place all your other personal documents are stored.
iPhone Backup Location for Windows 7, XP, and Vista
Windows XP stores all of your iPhone backup files in this location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows Vista and Windows 7 backs up the iPhone files to here:
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Obviously if your main drive is not C: then you’ll have to change that, same goes for ‘user’
Note to Windows users: the Application Data and AppData directories and their contents (iPhone backups included) are considered ‘hidden’ so you will need to enable ‘Show hidden files’ within Windows Explorer before you will be able to see the files.

  • I cannot find corrupt iPhone backup file on my computer to delete it.

I have an iPhone 5s. It backed up to my computer (Mac) just fine until I got a new computer. I loaded all my backed up files onto the new computer (also a mac), from my airport extreme computer backup (also a mac product) and the next time I went to backup my iphone, it clearly says in the itunes window (where it would usually tell you your last backup date) that this phone had NEVER been backed up up on this computer. That would be fine with me and I would gladly create a new backup from what was on my phone currently except....When I click the backup button, it gives me the "could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. Delete the back up for this iphone, then try again" error message. I have followed every instruction of how to go about deleting these backups. I deleted every iPhone related backup through iTunes. Then I tried to find the files on the computer's hard drive outside of iTunes, but I swear there is no MobileSync folder on my computer. At least it's not at the path that is always given in every suggested solution.
I did create a separate user account (on the same computer) and was able to backup my phone through that. I don't know what that means, if anything, but I'd like my iphone to work with MY user account...
I've had a really difficult time finding the answer to this question online, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

i have figured it out, what you have to do is to restore your phone back to factory settings:
http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yBBiMy3Y6Q - youtube video to show you how incase you dont know
and then set up your phone as a NEW IPHONE instead of using iCloud
then plug it into iTunes - then i clicked on the iCloud thing to restore my new phone,   and it should work, mine does hope this helps

  • Deleting Old Corrupt iPhone Backup Folder - Which One Do I Delete

I am getting the message "iTunes can not backup the iPhone, because the backup was corrupt, or not compatible with the iPhone" whenever i try to backup my iPhone 5s. I have been getting this message since around the end of May 2014 after updating my iOS to 7.1.2.
I have seen a couple of posts about how to go about deleting an old backup already. After some time, I figured out where to locate the iPhone backups in their original location, because they did not show up in my devices tab through iTunes. I have already located the files under:
    /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
So I did manage to get this far, but now I have come across a handful of folders that are full of files, all named with a bunch of alphanumeric characters. There are some backups of devices that I do not need to delete, that I don't have physical access to some of the devices at the moment to just delete all of the backup folders and re-backup afterwards.
My main question is, "How can I tell which backup corresponds to the iPhone having trouble, so I do not delete another backup that I do not wish to lose?"
If it helps, I am on a Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks, and iTunes 11.3.1 (2).
Please help ASAP, and THANK YOU in advance!!

First, if you don't have iExplorer yet, you should download it here. Then install it. After installing it open the iExplorer. It is not necessary to plug your device in. Then click the "Browse Local iTunes Backups".
After clicking it, go to the "Browse iTunes Backup" directory. It will show you the list of backup folders on your computer with a readable folder name i.e. the names of each devices that has backup files on your computer. From there you can now identify which backup folder is yours.

  • How do i get iphone backup files to show in itunes?

    Hi.
Ive recently had to start using another computer due to a component failure, and as a result managed to wiped my iphone of its original contents during an update on the 'new' computer. I have my old hard drive connected to this computer via a docking station, and can access all the files on it with no problems. I've deleted any itunes stuff on the 'new' computer so that the only apple/itunes stuff is on my old hard drive, but when i launch itunes, its not like it was when i left it. no music loaded in library etc. not a major issue as the music is all still on the hard drive. My issue is with the apps and back ups for my phone. I can view the folders with the back ups in, but they wont show in itunes. I'd love to restore my phone back to how it use to be.
Can anyone help me out, as i'm at a brick wall with my knowledge level.
    thanks in advance
    Dave.

You can open an alternate library by holding down shift when starting iTunes.
A GUID is a Globaly Unique IDentifier. I this case I the backup folders appear to be named bunch of numbers & letters probably meant to be unique. If your original library opens properly (and you haven't wiped the device) then you don't need to worry about restoring the iPhone backups from the previous system.
There's another GUID buried in the iTunes Library.itl that identifies your old library as the "home" library for your device. If you try to connect the device to a new library, even if it has all the same content, iTunes will want to wipe the device and start over. Not so much a problem for media but you might lose app settings. Best if you can connect properly to your old library, otherwise restoring from a preserved backup should restore your app data.

  • How to uncheck encypt iphone backup if i forgot password ?

    please help me

You are being a rediculous rationalizer.
If you can't change anything or help at all, why respond just to rationalize and twist what I'm asking?
And to assume I read the article before this happened was silly.
I am saying clearly, this is buggy  behaviour that should be changed.
Every other thing when you encrypt a backup, you are encrypting the backup, not disabling your ability to every make an unencrypted backup again if you forget those backup passwords.
I know you have no means to change it and absolutely nothing helpful to add I don't already know whch I indicated had you bothered to read instead of jumping in with the rationalizations and repeating what i already said.  You are just talking to yourself with rediculous remarks like "blame yourself" for not taking some article seriuosly I had not read and should not have had to, because it's a silly buggy quirk in the design I hope apple will address.
You must not work much with encrypted backups with other companies to not understand, usually, when you're encyrpting a backup, you're encrypting that file, not preventing yourself from ever making an unencrypted backup again if you lose the password.  Backups and the phone are two different things.  Please do not respond with unhelpful ignorance again.  You have no clue what you are talking about in terms of security implications.  Turning backups off would not let you "take apart an encrypted backup" if it's encrypted properly.  The encryption is in the backup file itself, which would have no affect on creating unencrypted backups after deleting the old encrypted ones.  I tried to be graceful but you really have no clue of the security implications and you are being very silly saying I should have taken an article seriously I hadn't read until I ran into this quirky behavior.  You have no idea what choice is.  Wow.  You know, it's possible for someone to want to change a password they forgot on backups without having to wipe out their whole phone config, messages, etc.  This in no way jepordizes the security of backups made with the old password. You are being clueless on this.  Please do not respond if all you have to add is rationalizations of how any other way would be insecure when you don't know what you're talking about.  You're snide remark that someone "does't know security" if they want to turn off encrypted phone backups or change the password on future backups, if they forgot it displays a huge amount of ignorance not worth trying to correct.  Apple's great.  Doesn't mean they don't make mistakes.

  • How to delete the old backup in time machine?

    Hi all,
As I have use the TM for a year, the backup folder is on a network dirve. HOw can I delete the old backup (eg 6 months ago) in order to release more space?
    Thank you
    Gary

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
I'll assume you mean a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, not a Time Capsule or external HD connected to a Time Capsule or other Mac on your network.
If so, you can delete individual backups via Time Machine. See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). That may not seem to gain any space, since the backups are in a rather odd container called a +sparse bundle.+ It won't shrink automatically when you delete things, but the space will be reused for new backups.
You may be able to limit the size of the backups by limiting the amount of space available to Time Machine on the NAS, but you'll have to use whatever facilities the NAS supplies, not OSX. Some allow the disk to be partitioned as on a normal disk, or allocate space to shares.

  • How to delete time machine backups from trash bin

    Hello,
I've got a little issue with time machine and doing something stupid on my part. I have seen different posts on this question, but it appears that most people haven't found a working solution, so I want to see if anybody has more insight.
A few weeks back I found that there were some files and folders that were getting backed up to time machine that I didn't want getting backed up for various reasons. Rather than wisely removing the individual folder and files like I've since learned, I removed the whole backup for that date to the trash bin. I know, bad choice.
I've tried to empty trash bin and delete the backups altogether, but error codes and permissions keep me from doing that. Space isn't an issue on the external drive I use for Time Machine, so I'd be fine with just getting the files OUT of trash and back into the folder with other backup dates-now that I know how to delete individual files. When I try and drag them back to TM folder from trash, get another error message saying something along the lines of the "drive not being able to be modified".
I've heard of some people using Terminal to remove files, while other folks say that that's dangerous and asking for bigger problems in the OS. So, what are my BEST options? Just want to get locked files out of the trash bin, don't care where they go at this point. I've tried the secure trash delete option and some other simple suggestions with no luck. Backups still sitting in trash.

    Hi DonnaR,
What's not good is to remove them via the Finder or any way other than within Time Machine
Unfortunately this is what I did, and I know better now, but I can't undo what foolish thing I did. I have tried the steps to a T that you included in earlier post from this page- http://pondini.org/TM/E6.html using the Terminal method. The files are still sitting in trash, no change. I have also done the "secure trash" thing holding down option key and that hasn't worked either. I have also done repeated REPAIR DISK operations of the external drive within Disk Utility and a freeware program called Maintenance, and unless there' some special reboot needed, I still see the files there. At this point, and after reading more on pondini.org, I'd rather figure out a way to "Put Back" deleted backups sitting in trash bin to their place in Time Machine folder via finder, if I could figure out a permissions way around the error message I get saying "The operation can’t be completed because backup items can’t be modified." Is there some way of tricking the Finder window into letting me copy back items somehow? Once I get them back in, I will go through and delete the files from INSIDE Time Machine Star Wars view like suggested.    Force deleting items from trash using TrashIt or OnyX is my very last resort. Once I get this figured out, I intend to upgrade to Mavericks, but I want to do it with everything working and clean.   Thanks again!

  • I have a new computer. How to transfer my iPhone backup?

    Hello,
I have a new computer which I will now be using to sync my iPhone on a daily basis. As you can only use one computer terminal to sync and backup your device, I need to move the backup to my new computer. How do I do this?
The only problem is that I don't want iTunes on the new computer to wipe everything: all app data etc. At the moment I don't mind it wiping my iPod on the iPhone as I'd like to re-build and re-organise that anyway. It's mainly just so the app data doesn't go.
All I want to know is how I can move the backup for my iPhone to the new computer and get it to work.
I hope someone can help: thanks in advance!

Transfer your iTunes library from the old computer to the new. If you still have the old you can just connect them to the same network and copy over the network. Rather than transfer the backup (which contains data, but not apps or music) just create a new backup on the new computer BEFORE syncing. Go to Preferences in iTunes, Devices tab, and check "Prevent ipods, etc" from syncing. Connect the phone, right click on it in iTunes and choose Backup.
