I want to delete duplicate templates from "My Templates" but can't. Tried to drag them to the trash bin but they won't budge. Can't find a delete command on the menu bar, either.

You can't delete templates or any file from within Pages, it's done from Finder. Pages stores those you created & saved as templates in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. The door to the user's Library is hidden in Lion but it is easy to open. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your users Library will appear about halfway down the list.

Simpler version of deleting templates using Pages:
Utilizing v. 5.5.2
Go to Pages and select New
Select My Templates
If you don't have the right click enabled on your trackpad, click control and select the template you want to delete which gives you the option to Rename or Delete the file.

You have to navigate to the My Templates folder in the Application Support folder in your System Library which is hidden by default in OSX 10.7.5. Hold down the option key when you click on the Go menu in Finder and all will be revealed.
A page only exists because it has content on it, even if that is an invisible like a space, tab, return or page break. Click on the page you want to clear and delete the content.
Menu > View > Show Layout/Invisibles
to see what is there.

I'm with you verm71; it's not entirely clear how Apple is expecting you to manage this. I'm going on vacation soon and want to clean up my phone so that it's nice and empty for the new pictures. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this without losing your pictures in the new Photos as well. If imported, it's impossible to see which is the Cloud version and which is the Local version. It's very annoying.
I've also noticed in iPhoto you used to have the ability to locate the original of the picture inside the photo database. That option is not provided in Photos, making finding the original extremely difficult.
It seems to be a great, well-oiled system. But I would love to know how Apple envisions the typical workflow for archiving...
