How to delete google search history in safari on itouch ?
Hi All !
I would like to know how I can delete the google search history in safari?
Thanks
I just found the answer somewhere else in the forum - it worked for me.
Clear it while in Safari by going to bookmarks, then "History," and then the "Clear" button in the bottom left.

Clear Google search history from Safari Toolbar (v.4.0.3 and up)
How to clear your search history. TEDIOUS but works.
*Delete Google results pages from the history*
In Safari 4.0.3 and up, you may now search your history. Search for the URL string www.google.com/search? and delete the records that match it.
*Clear the search strings from the toolbar*
Quit Safari then from the Terminal, run this command:
defaults delete com.apple.safari RecentSearchStrings
When you start Safari again, the search history should be empty.
Somebody could probably build a shell script that searches the History.plist XML file and deletes the <dict> sections AND resets the Safari plist at the same time. I'm not that good with string manipulation, so I'm hoping somebody with experience could pick this up. Then that shell script could be made into an AppleScript or set up with Automator. Wishful thinking? How to clear your search history. TEDIOUS but works.

Deleting facebook search history in Safari
I'm not able to delete my facebook search history in Safari. Can anyone help? I've tried clearing history, cache, cookies, etc.
Thank you!Ok...maybe preferences are corrupted...
Go to ~/Library/Prerferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari, go to the menu bar click History > Clear History
If that helped, move the .plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. If not, just move it back to the Preferences folder.
If you don't want history saved when you visit Facebook, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Private Browsing -
How to clear Google search history
HI,
Ever since I updated to 2.1 it has been impossible to clear my Google search terms. Clearing the cache, cookies, etc in 'settings' has no effect.
Does anyone know how to clear them?I'd try a reboot just to see if it fixes the issue.
Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
A reset/reboot is:
Go to Home Screen
Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

Disable Google search history in Safari
Is there a way in Safari on a 3GS to disable storing search history? Every time I select the search box, I am presented with a list of several weeks worth of searches. I know I can clear the history if you access Settings-->Safari-->Clear History but I don't want to do that continually.
Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You could try a different browser like Privately:

How do I clear search history from Safari
hhow do I clear. Search history from Safari
While you are on the Safari page click the open book icon on the top left. This is the bookmarks tab and you will see history listed. Click it and you have the options of removing recent or all your search history. If you want to clear out everything in Safari you can go to settings and click Safari and scroll down to clear history and website data. This clears out saved passwords and search history. Your saved bookmarks are not affected. Hope this helps.

Unable to clear Google search history in Safari
I am unable to clear old searches in Safari. None of the following has any effect: using the clear recent searches button, totally resetting Safari, deleting all history and cache and trying to delete each individual search item manually, or by changing default search method. These are old items, not recent searches, but they continue to show up in the recent search area. It appears to be a bug. Any ideas how to REALLY clear out the search cache?
THANKSSeem to have finally fixed it by deleting the safari plist entry.

Hi,
My problem is, that I simply can't figure out how to clear Google search history from Google search field. I tried reinstalling Safari but records still seem to occour and obviously tend to be stored at some other place on my computer than Safari's deafalt folder (as they remain). Other help suggestion including that one with some com.apple.Safary.plist did not particularly work, I s'pose cause I have Vista not Mac
Does anybody have some smart hints?
Please help! Thanx so much!Hi,
thank you very much. However, it did not work. But now I know, I should've been more accurate. Well, my problem is not with the google search field next the brosing field, but with my iGoogle engine. I know that Google has a private search history by account and I deleted all --- nothing happened. When trying to search something, I find keywords older than a month. Moreover, in fact, it is not just with Google but with any other sites where search is needed.
I simply don't know what to do! Any smart idea? -

SAFARI 6: how do I clear Google search history?
There used to be an option at the bottom of the scroll down search bar for CLEAR SEARCH.
Now that Safari 6 has adopted the single info bar, that option seems to have disappeared.
So how do I clear search history?
I don't want to clear all history (i.e. sites visited),
just search history.Thank you,
but the point of my question was precisely that in 2012,
the way that Google is presented within Safari is different
(e.g., there is now just a single search bar),
so some of the info on the old threads is no longer relevant.
That is why I titled the qustion clearly "SAFARI 6".
However, I have discovered the answer myself.
I think I was being just too impatient.
The same option of CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES does come up
if you click and hold on the magnifying glass icon to the left of what is now the single Google search bar.
This click and hold opens a roll-down menu, and near the bottom is the CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES option. -
How do you clear google search history
How do you clear google search history. I tried the clear history in settings and all the old searches are still there
In Safari, use the open book symbol to go to bookmarks. At the top of the list is "History", tap history and then tap the clear button on the bottom left of the screen. That clears the search history as well.

How to clear the Google search history
Does any one know how to clear the google search history, as you can clear your cache, history and cookies but not the google search history.
This has been asked and answered before. A forum search will turn up a few threads like this one:

How do you delete the search history in google? While in Safari, if I simply "clear history" then go to google to do a search all of my old searches are there. I wrote a huge research paper, and it's getting annoying everytime I go to google and my past searches still come up. I've been trying to do this for some time now, but no success....this forum is the best way for me to get a quick fix. Thanks in advance!
Small problem, I know, but it bugs the heck out of me.Thank you for the reply. I probably should have made my post a little bit clearer. I did not use the google search that is already in the top right corner of my Safari. Instead, being the creature of habit that I am, Google.com is my homepage and in the search area on the page there isn't a magnifying glass that drops down. When I used my old PC there was a magnifying glass where I could delete previous searches, however, I'm new to Macs and not sure how to go about doing this.
Thanks again for the reply...any other suggestions?! -
Hi,
First time poster and very non-techy person here. I am being redirected to urls starting "uk.gomeo..." when clicking on Google search results in Safari. Quick search on this seems to suggest I have a virus. Not sure what to do or how to get rid of it. Not sure what could have caused it either. Downloaded Acrobat update couple of days ago which took hours, and Twitter account was hacked about a week ago. All software updates up to date. Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks.Sorry editing that way doesn't work anymore in Lion. But you can look and see if there are any google entries in it. If there are not any google entries you can ignore my posts. If there are try this:
Open terminal
sudo nano /etc/hosts
When prompted for the sudo password - The correct password is your own (the password of the user logged into OS X, also the password you provide when doing system updates and so on).
now you can delete the line(s) that contain google and save.
Using your arrow keys go to the line containing google. Delete the line. Do the same for all lines containig google.
if you have a problem deleting, do a control-x to exit, and reply n to the modified buffer question. To save your changes do a control-o and hit enter , then do a control-x to quit.
Note: normally you never edit the hosts file, but if you see google entries in it then a malware programs has added them. It has been happening with a bogus flash update, that installs flash and asks for your system password. SOmething that seem quite normal when installing software. This bogus flash update makes the hosts modifications adding their own IP adrress for google. -
I can't seem to figure out how to erase the google search history bar (where you fill in your search) without resetting all of Safari. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi,
Safari preferences -> AutoFill -> (Other forms) -> Remove the ".google.com" entry.

Hi, This is the first time I use this forum, but I have searched without finding the answer to my question (I realise it is probably out there somewhere). I support a legacy product where early versions are not officially compatible with Server 2008
