How to delete Guest User Account

I just got my Mac book Pro and I'm new to Mac. I created a Guest User Account and now I want to delete it. But the - (minus) option is grey out. How can I delete the Guest User Account? I have two accounts listed right now. The Admin and the Guest Account. Thanks for your help.
p.s. I just found out I couldn't even open the folders under the Guest directory! How come? I am the Admin and should be able to do that. What did I do wrong? Help!!!

I should also say that sometime in the future you might have a problem with something, and one of the first things you should test is, do you have the same problem in another account, so having a Guest Account is a good thing.
You just log in as Guest and test to see if you have the same problem. So it might be a good idea to leave it active, for it takes up very little space. I always have more than one Account, and this new Guest Account sounds good to me, I like the idea that everything is deleted after log off.

  • How to retrieve guest user account backup

I have an iMac and a time capsule.  A large number of pictures were loaded into I Photo in the guest account of my iMac.  I cannot now find these pictures as I understand that guest accounts are wiped clean each time the guest account is lodged out from.
Given that we did not log out from the quest account for a couple of days, i am hopeful that the guest account was backed up by time capsule.  I cannot find the guest account on the backed up time capsule.  Does anyone have any suggestions whether TC backs up the guest account and if so, how can I locate it in TC.
    Thanks very much.  David

Did you have the main account logged in as well as guest at the time? Do you have TM setup in the guest account?
It is very unlikely TM backed it up. If it did simply mount the sparsebundle in finder and go through all the folders until you find the guest user account and check if there is anything there. If not sorry it was never backed up.
The only solution I can see if to use a recovery software for the camera. Whatever source of the photos was.. stop using the memory card in that camera now.. use the recovery software as the files will be there until overwritten for the next lot of pictures.
Pondini has all the info for recovery of files from TM.
    See Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There is a section for iphoto.. but IMHO it won't be backed up.

  • How to disable guest user account on iMAC

I upgraded to Lion and now I have a guest user account on the log in screen. I want to disable this account. How do I get rid of it?

System Preferences > Users & Groups > Guest User (you may need to authenticate) and uncheck "Allow guests to log in to this computer".

  • How to delete guest user

I am trying to save space on my hd and would like to delete the guest user ? is it possible ? is it safe ?

The guest user account's settings and saved files are automatically deleted when the account is logged out. This is intentional so the account does not accumulate space like other user accounts. The account should only be a collection of folders and be only a few MB in size when logged out. You can technically delete the account entry in the system's directory, but this is not recommended. Instead, simply disable it in the Users & Groups system preferences by selecting it and unchecking the options to allow guests to log into the system.

  • How to delete a user account??

I made a account to let my guest use it but now I don't want it there anymore. It has the standard user preferences and I don't know how to delete it. Can someone please help me? Thanks

Open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, unlock the pane, and click on it. If it’s not a guest user, press the - button. If it is, uncheck the box to allow guests to log in.

  • Playstation 4 How to delete former User account

I need some help I just bought a second, used PS4 at our local Gamestop in adition to my PS4 at home, which I use as my primary Playstation.I already set this PS as my "primary" Playstation. As I started the used PS4 I noticed, that the former user account was still on the playstation. I can not connect to his PSNsettings, because I neighter know his email/ password nor do I know him in person. I tried to add my own account, whicht worked perfectly, then I tried to delete his account, but I can't do so, because PSN asks for his login information which I don't know.Deactivating this PS4 as HIS primary gaming console does not work as well. Four things I want to know: Is there a way to delete an existing user without knowing his/her login information? In case that ain't possible, is it a problem to simply ignore his still existing account? Is it possible to deactivate the PS4 as HIS active, primary Playstation without knowing his login?I case I cannot do so, would it be a problem to simply ignore the fact, that the now my PS4 is still set as the primary PS4 of somebody else? Thanks fpr your help!

With the power off (not in standby)  press and hold the power button on the PS4 until you hear a second beep after about 7 seconds. You will then need to connect your controller with the usb cable to navigate the menu. The options are explained in this link - https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5044/~/ps4%3A-safe-mode

Thanks to Brad Caldwell for the questions and screenshot via Twitter, you can follow us there too.
How to disable that “Guest User” from appearing at the OS X 10.7.2 login screen
    Open System Preferences
    Click on “Security & Privacy”
Click the lock in the lower corner and type in your administrative password to unlock the control panel
Check the box next to “Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked”
This prevents the Guest User account from being visible at the login screen both during reboot and at the login screen. Again, it’s highly recommended to keep this enabled for security purposes, but if your Mac is locked down with a security cable or you don’t have any use for Find My Mac, you could disable this and not feel too bad about it.

  • How do i get rid of the guest user account on my mac?

The guest user account keeps appearing on my login screen and i want to get rid of it, i do not want others to be able to access my account. How am i able to do this? I have tried to go on through the user section and nothing i seem to do in there helps. Please help!

You don't want to get rid of, it's a security feature. If someone steals your Mac, all that account permits is Safari access, no other access to the computer. This enables you to locate your Mac.

  • How do I delete a user account to regain the space on my HD?

How do I delete a user account I am not using to regain the space on the HD?

System Preferences - Accounts - choose account in the left panel and click the "-" button to delete. You'll want to choose "Delete immediately" to save the space (the "Save in disk image" option will keep the files in an image in your Users folder, which saves you no space).

  • How long should it reasonably take to delete a User Account?

Just got a new 27" iMac.  I made the mistake of setting myself up as a user prior to migrating from my olde Mac G5 (Tiger).  When I did migrate, I realized it set up a new user with the migrated info.  Went ahead and kept that user and deleted the one I had created.  Problem is it has been "deleting" my user account for close to 6 hours.  Is this reasonable, or do I have a problem going on?  User screen in System Preferences just keeps saying deleting user.  Won't let me quit System Preferences or Restart.
    Thanks.

I decided to let it run overnight.  Checked it this morning and it was complete.  Go figure...
Not sure what the process of deleting a user account involves, but it sure took a long time, something more than 7 hours.  I definitely don't want to have to do that again!
Thanks for the response, I was going to go that route if it wasn't complete this morning.

  • Deleting a guest user account.

I have a Toshiba P775-S7215 laptop running windows 7. When I follow the instructions to delete a user account, the computer does not give me the option to delete the user account. I click on manage another account, and when I click on the account I want to delete the only option that comes up is to turn on or off the account. Delete the account option is not displayed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

That looks okay to me. The HomeGroupUser$ user account and the HomeUsers group happens when you create a HomeGroup for networking.
I haven't for the computer below.
You can create an image of an active window (like the User Account above) as follows. Press Alt + Fn +PRTSC keys. That will put the image on your clipboard. Then Paste it into an image-compliant application like Paint (mspaint.exe) and use Save As on its File menu to create the image file. Give it a try.
