How to delete manually managed songs?

Hi,
I am getting this problem with iTunes 11.0.1.12 (iOS 6.0.2) where for some reason the only way to delete the song is to go to first "On This Phone">Music then select a song or a few of them and press delete on PC. Now its important to mention that all songs and play lists have been added to the phone manually, meaning i made the playlist on the phone and just added the songs that i wanted from my PC to the play list, thats all. With older versions of iTunes i was able to select the playlist and delete ether all songs or just one while i am inside of the play list by pressing (alt+delete or something) and now the only way to delete the song is to do it in the Music menu which is a huge pain because what if i have 10 play lists and each contains like a 1000 songs, normally i would want to select the play list and delete the songs of that play list without accidentally delete anything else but now i have to go to "music" which shows like every songs on the phone and try to figure out what song goes where and which songs i need to delete
Any ideas ?

Yes i can select anything i want in itunes and this is what i do,
1. Select the playlist that i have made in Itunes, it shows me all the songs that are inside of that play list.
2. Then what? Press delete? or press alt+delete ? because the only thing any of those two actions will do is to remove the songs from that play list and this is NOT what i want. I want to PERMANENTLY delete all the songs from the phone while i am inside of play list using iTunes
Also if i try to delete playlist on the go by swipe on the name of playlist that does not necessary deletes the songs in side of the playlist and deleting song one by one on the phone is just too long. I am looking for the way to delete songs off the phone without going to "music in iTunes". Basically my questions is, can i delete all say 1000 songs inside of playlist say called test using iTunes if so whats the best way?

  • Manually manage songs and video (ITUNES)

How can I manually manage songs into my iPhone 4 whitout sync. ? If I check the case, it ask me to sync. overything with the "new" list when I "Apply" ... I don't want to sync. because there's no song on my cumputer , only on my iphone so I don't want to loose anything but I want to put manually songs and videos on it ! I'm using the last version of Itunes, iOS and Windows 7 !

Connect your Device to Computer. Select your iPhone under "Devices" on the left Pane.
On the right Pane, under "Summary" tab, make sure "Manually manage Music and videos" box is checked. Then click the APPLY button on the lower right Window.
Now you can drag songs onto your iphone without using the Sync.

  • How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?

Like the subject line says: How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?
With the previous version of iTunes, when I plugged in my iPod, I could select the iPod, select podcasts, and manually delete episodes. With the new iTunes, I can't select individual episodes when looking at my iPod through iTunes. Is my only option to Sync? If so, why is that my only option?
This question probably has a simple answer, and I'm just not seeing it.

    Rock,
I think I figured out a way to do what you want to do - which is the same way that I use Itunes with my Ipod. (My Itunes libary was destroyed last year so I can no longer auto synch my Ipod as I would lose thousands of songs).
Funnily enough, I discovered this new way of manually moving podcasts while trying to figure out what cpragman was trying to say (I never could - he must be smarter than me, as I couldn't get his method to work).
    1. Open up your Itunes in your regular Library view. Choose Pocasts from the left hand side (either in the sidebar if you have that enabled, or from the little "radio" icon if you don't.)
    2. Mouse to the podcast you want to place on your Ipod.
    3. Right-click it.  A long menu will pop up.
    4. Move to the "Add to Playlist" option.  As you hover, all your playlists will be visible. But at the very top will be the name of your Ipod itself (whatever you named it originally).  Choose THAT name, and voila! That podcast will now copy to your Ipod and be easily available when you disconnect.
A nice feature of this method is that you can shift-click several podcasts at once and do the same thing, and all your selected podcasts will copy over (if you're like me and update your Ipod only every few weeks).
Hope this helps - let me know if it works for you!

  • IPod Nano appears on my list of iTunes devices. Summary tab shows 928 manually managed songs; music tab however shows nothing. Where did the songs go?

I recently undated software all around, reloaded windows 8 and upgraded to windows 8.1.  My iPod Nano (1.0.4) appears on my list of iTunes (11.1.3) devices. The summary tab for my iPod shows 928 manually managed songs (2 of 8 GBs still empty).  However, when I click on the music tab immediately to the right of the summary tab, iTunes no longer shows my songs, playlists or audio books.  Instead iTunes invites me to "sync" my iPod and kiss my contents goodbye. Why won't the songs appear in iTunes anymore?  My iPod still plays the songs and they appear on the tiny iPod screen.   iTunes however won't show them. iTunes still allows me to drag and drop new music and books into my iPod but iTunes won't let me see the particulars.  I want to delete some audio books I've finished but iTunes won't let me to them.  What gives?

Thanks iPodmaven for showing me how to check the arrow to the right of the device image and convert it into a inverted triangle.  Problem solved!  Thanks

  • Updating and iPod that has preferences set for "manually manage songs..."

I have my iPod set with "manually manage songs and playlists" so that
    (a) it won't try to update every time I connect it; and
    (b) so that I can see all of the songs from my iTunes application, as I don't store my music library on my laptop computer.
But sometimes I do want to do a full sync of the iPod to my music library. I'm not sure how to do that. If I select "update ipod", it says "iPod update complete", but doesn't really do anything.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

Hi, Michael, and thanks for your help.
I realize I can change the options to "automatically update..."
But the whole point of my inquiry was to find out whether there's a way to NOT have that preference set, as I
    (a) don't want the iPod updating every time I plug it in; and
    (b) want to be able to see its songs on other computers when I'm not seeking to update it.
What I want is a command that I can initiate that will say "act as though the automatically-update preferences were on and do a full update just this once".
I suppose I can go in and turn the preference on, do the update, then turn the update off, but it seems like lots of steps. I might have thought that there would be a control+click command that would accomplish this all in one click.

  • What is manually manage songs and playlist?

I had some issues earlier and it seems to be resolved now,but in the process it had me set the IPod to manually manage songs and playlist. I want to close ITunes now and go to bed but I don't know how to exit ITUnes without losig my music. I used to click sync IPod and put a check mark next to the song I wanted loaded to the Ipod and when it was over I would take the check mark off,but now what do I do?

By default the iPod is set to "automatically manage songs and videos", whatever changes you make in iTunes are reflected on the iPod the next time you connect it. In manual mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from your library: Managing content manually on iPod
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods:: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • How to delete all duplicate songs in Itunes in one step?

How to delete all duplicate songs in Itunes in one step?

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • Problem with manually manage songs and videos  on my iphone !

So, I accidently deleted Itunes from my cumputer. I downloaded it again but my library "Charles" was now "Itunes" , so it wasn't my Iphone's "home" library anymore ... And the case " Manually manage songs and videos" wasn't selected , but when I clic on it and put "Apply" a windows appear and tell my I have to Sync. with the new library because I can't do it with more than one library ... The result is : I can't manually manage songs from my cumputer to my iPhone with Itunes, If I sync I loose every songs and videos I have on my iPhone ! I need some help to be able to manage manually my songs without sync first !

a very good explanation given by the great wjosten
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your GF's computer, her phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to her phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from her phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book, iCal) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on her phone will be in her itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore her itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • Manually Managing Songs

I've got the previous iPod Shuffle, and whenever I connect it to a different computer, all my songs on my ipod are deleted and replaced with the songs on the computer on which the ipod is connected to. i tried the ipod help, and it says i should select the "manually manage songs and playlists" option in my ipod options. the problem is that i cant seem to find that " " option anywhere! Please help.

You can't load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto an iPod Shuffle like you can with other iPods. The Shuffle doesn't have the full manual option the larger iPods have which allows them to operate on multiple computers iPod Shuffle FAQ

go into the apps page on your itunes - its in the list at the top of the page that starts with music (you don't need to have iphone connected)  right click on the apps you want to delete and then choose delete. When you next connect you iphone to update it will ask if you want to transfer things from your iphone to your itunes - click no as i think this will mean that the apps that are on your phone will go to the itunes and the deleted apps will be in itunes again (not really sure about that bit but i think i am right!!) when your iphone is updated it will tell you eventually that it is removing items from the phone - the apps will be removed.                                                                                    30GB video, 8 gb nano, 16gb iTouch, 3G iPhone, Windows 2000

The part of this that provided the working solution has to do with the location in iTunes you are doing your App management.  You have to be in the Apps item selected in the left part of the iTunes screen... not in the Apps Tab of the iPod you are trying to manage.  Having me do the delete with the iPod Touch disconnected was the detail that made me go look in the Library.
I missed this subtile clue in Philly_Phan's post... Philly_Phan did tell me how to do it, I just missed the connection due to there being too many ways to view and manage content.  The "Library" part is the detail I missed.
I hope this helps others, and I am greatly in debt to Bunnydrummer and Philly_Phan... thanks you guys!
