How to delete movies still in Original Media folder?

Using iMovie 10.0.6 and Yosemite.
I delete clips within iMovie in my Library view by selecting the clip and 'Move to Trash' (this as I go through all my clips to see what I want to keep and what I want to throw away). After selecting to move to trash, these clips then disappear from view when I am looking at my iMovie library, so that looks a-ok.
However, when I look at my 'Original Media' folder within the iMovie Library folder (after selecting 'Reveal in Finder'), I still see these clips - as if they had never been deleted (and they appear to still be taking up space).
I have emptied the Trash from the main Finder window, but these files are still there. I don't see them when loading my iMovie Library, so not a big deal in this regard, but just wondering why they are still there taking up space and appear not to be deleted.
Related question - when I am left with a set of movie clips and I want to send someone else all the original clips to then create a movie, is the best way to find them in the Finder and copy onto another drive/folder and give to them, or to export directly from iMovie? (I would rather they have all the individual clips so better to play with, move around, fix dates, et
Thanks-

Thank you all,

I just want to make the items neither in deletion folder, nor in purges folder.
So I think there are two ways to achieve this.
Method 1,disabled the single item recovery. then delete the items in deletion folder ,so it wouldn't enter to the purges folder, it just deleted permanently. then enable the single item recovery
Method 2,delete the items in deletion folder, then the messages move to the purges folder, then delete the messages in purges folder.
the Method 1 is not so good ,as it need to disable the single item recovery firstly, then enable  single item recovery .
So I want to use the Method 2

  • Can I delete Original Media folder after its all been transcoded?

So i remember reading that most footage you import should be transcoded. Though Final Cut Pro "works natively with formats like h.264 and dslr movs, it is better to have it optimized into Pro Res and transcoded." Having listened to that, I have Optimized all of my media that I have importated however now I have double the media in my FCP Events folders because I have both Original Media and Transcoded media. This leads me to a few questions...
    1) Can I delete the Original Media folder if all my my media is transcoded? How will this effect my timeline and projects? Will this free up space? How can I verify all of my clips have bene transcoded?
    2) Can I delete the Transcoded Media and go back to using the Original Media? Will this mess up my timeline and projects that I have started editing or will it revert the media in my projects back to the Original? Which would run faster/better performacne Original Or Transcoded? I shoot all of my footage on a Canon 7d DSLR 24/30 fps 1080p, H.264.
    3) What workflows have you used so that you dont dobule anything? If this project is a loss, what should I be doing in future events when importing? Should I send to Compressor and transcode there BEFORE I import into FCP. That way I am only importing the Transcoded stuff?
    Thoughts?
    Mike

1- Yes, you can delete the Original Media folder, FCP will only read from your Optimized Media folder then.  But move it to the trash first, then launch FCP X and test it out, before emptying the trash.
2- Yes, again, test it as I mentioned in 1 above.  Once you remove either Original or Optimized, it's gone, that's it.
3- Always let FCP do the transcoding, doing it in Compressor gains you nothing.  You shold base your decision to optimize on the hardware you're using and the amount of storage space you have available.  H.264 is super compressed.  ProRes uncompresses it and is more of it's natural file size.

  • Deleted from Library, not from media folder, How to delete from media fldr?

I attempted to delete a whole bunch of songs--iTunes asked:
"Do you want to delete the selected song, or keep it in the itunes media folder?"
I selected "keep file" by accident--so they are no longer in my library but still in my media folder.
How do I delete all files in my media folder that are not in my Library?
I have checked Doug's scripts and do not see a script for that.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Help! FCPX is copying my media to the Original Media folder even though I tell it not to.

I made the transition to FCPX several months ago and in the beginning saw no issue with the import process - FCPX would create aliases when asked during the import process and all would be well. Now FCPX insists on copying my media to the Original Media folder. It no longer creates aliases. This consumes my RAM, takes up hard drive space as the files are duplicated, and slows down my editing process. What am I missing? None of the options to copy the media are checked. I review this every time but each time I try to import without copying, transcoding or anything I still find that FCPX copies the media instead of creating aliases. Please advise... many thanks.

What do you see in the import dialog? Is copy media grayed out? What preferences do you have set in importing? How are in importing? Drag and drop? Import window? What are you importing? Where are you importing from?

  • No audio for some files in the Final Cut Event/Original Media folder

Hi, recently, I noticed that some of the video files stored into the Final Cut Event/"Event"/Original Media folder had no audio. They do have audio when I read them into FCP X but not when I open them as ordinary files in the Finder. It worries me as it makes these files unusable in any other application, unless I "share" them from FCP X. It's no big deal but it's more work and on the principle, it's criminal: why FCP X would strip the audio off an original? Video and photo applications now work on the non-destructive principle!
I usually shoot videos with a DSLR (Canon 550D/T2i) and a GoPro 3. It seems that the files impacted are the ones shot with the Canon and optimized for FCP X. The GoPro files are fine, optimized or not.
Is there any solution to this problem or will I have to export the files from FCP X?

Thank you very much for the info.
I removed the Media Cache and Media Cache File folders.  Didn't seem to make any difference.  Also, there's no audio if I try to play it in Organizer.
I have a question regaring "import".  What exactly does that mean?
Since all my MTS files are on hard drive already, what I did was:
    1) Open a new project in PE9.
    2) In the "Organize" tab, click "Get Media"
    3) Choose "Get Videos/Photos/Audio from: Files and Folders".
    4) In the pop-up window, navigate to my folder and choose the existing MTS file.
    Was that called "import"?
    Thank you again!

  • How to safely delete movies if I originally clicked Keep File instead of Move to Trash?

    Hi,
100 GB of my 250GB hard drive is iTunes movies, and I'm about out of space on the drive. So I went through the process of deleting the movies from iTunes, making sure to leave the "Also delete this item from iCloud" unchecked on the prompt "Are you sure you want to delete this copy of the selected item?", but I incorrectly clicked Keep File instead of Move to Trash on the prompt "Do you want to move the selected item to the Trash, or keep it in the iTunes Media folder?"
So my hard drive is still full and I'm not able to get back to the offer to Move to Trash. When I went to the Media folder and moved a movie to the Trash myself, iTunes would no longer start, giving me error 13014. So I returned the movie to the media folder and iTunes was able to start again. When I try to delete the movie from within iTunes, it now only gives the option to hide the movie.
Is there a way to safely remove the files from my hard drive without breaking iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Phil

No easy push-button solution I can think of.
You could export the main itunes Music playlist into a spreadsheet and use that to compare what windows explorer has.
Right-click Music in the itunes source list, export it as XML, and import it into a spreadsheet program so you can arrange it by whatever seems esiet to search on.
Another thing you could do, is create a blank library, import all your existing music and see how many songs are in the new library vs. your old library. For god's sake make sure you have the itunes preferene to copy files turned off when you do this, so you don't gets a bunch of duplicated files on your hard drive.
Then you could switch back and forth between your libraries to check things out.
    How to use alternate libraries:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
Just keep in mind, itunes always tries to use the last library it opened unless you do the shift-start.

  • How to add (move) file (song) to Media library without a copy being left behind?

A followup to my questions from yesterday. I seem to have fixed the database/folder issues. But here's the lingering problem:
For years, up until yesterday in fact, I had a standard, simple method of adding (non-itunes-purchased) files to my iTunes library. I had created a  folder out in the iTunes root folder named "NEW". I opened iTunes, went to File>Add File To Library, navigated to my NEW folder and added them from there.
When I did that, iTunes placed them and organized them into my library and removed them entirely from the NEW folder. That way I could glance at my NEW folder and see if I had anything to import.
NOW after some settings resets and a bunch of hassles in the past few days, suddenly when I add a file from NEW into the iTunes library, it is COPYING the file, not moving it. If I uncheck the "Copy..." box inside Preferences>Advanced all it does is POINT the osng at the one in the NEW folder without putting it in the iTunes library at all.
So my only options seem not to be "Copy" the file into iTunes (leaving behind the original which I have to manually delete)
    or
Not copy, where iTunes just uses the file in its location in the NEW folder which also doesn't help me.
How can I get back to having it move the file, and reorganize it into the library and not leave a copy behind?

If your "New" folder is inside the currently designated iTunes Media folder then when you add the files to iTunes they can be moved to their new locations without leaving copies behind. If the folder lives outside the iTunes Media folder and you have Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library selected then copies will be created. 'twas ever thus, so I suspect a chance change in the location of your "New" folder is responsible for the apparent change in behaviour.
If you leave Copy to... turned off then you can add in files from outside of the media folder and have them moved without leaving copies behind using the ConsolidateByMoving script as opposed to iTunes own "consoidate files" command, though I would think that working with "New" inside iTunes Media, or the Automatically add... folder is a lot less effort.

  • How to move library if iTunes Media Folder is not at default location

I need to move my iTunes library from my old laptop to my new one which should be simple enough but the problem is that my iTunes library database and content will not be in the same relative locations on the new computer - ie...I long ago ran out of space on my laptop HD and all my music has been on an external HD so my iTunes Media Location is not the standard "My Music" folder but instead points to E:/ITUNES EHD.
I would like to plug in the external HD to the new PC and copy the files to the new internal HD (as one of the reasons for buying the new computer was to do away with using the external HD for iTunes) and have the new iTunes point at the new media location but all the copied files have a pathway starting with E:/ rather than C:/ so iTunes immediately ignores them.
How can I transfer the files (including all the playlists other info) from the external HD to the new internal HD so that the "new" iTunes will recognise the files in their new location.
I hope this makes sense to somebody out there - please help or ask me any questions if I have not been too clear.

This article should get you started:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/48
The most important thing for a trouble free transfer is all you music files must be in your designated iTunes Music/media folder. That is set from the advanced tab in preferences.
If your current media folder is not set in preferences, you need to set it. If there are any music files outside the designated folder you need to consolidate your library.
The reason for this is that iTunes is extremely fussy about paths to files, but it can cope with a change in the path above the level of the designated media folder.
If you want to keep your current playlists etc, you will need to transfer your current iTunes folder containing the library files.
A simple way to do this is to install iTunes on the new PC then with iTunes closed drag the new iTuneas folder out of music to the desktop and replace it with the iTunes folder from the old PC.
You will need to adjust the permissions on the folder so your new account is the owner with full control.
Initially set the location of your iTunes music folder to the external drive and check that it all works.
Then you can move your files, by changing the location of your itunes media folder to one on the internal drive and then consolidating.
See this on moving the music folder:

I don't use MSI's MC application so I can't directly answer your question.
However both Win DVD 6 and PowerDVD6 play them just fine by launching the ts.ifo file.
Yes, I know that, but that means that I should use at least two applications. I need only one front end to launch all my media files, inluding ripped DVD files, not as separate VOBs but as whole movies decribed in IFO files.
