How to delete or disable addressbook thumbnail cache

I am running out of disk space and so analyzed the disk utilization. Imagine my surprise when I found com.apple.AddressBook.thumbnailcache directory lurking in /private/var/folders/.... with a whopping 20.8 GB! So questions : (1) What is this cache and why is it so large? (2) Is it all right to delete this directory? (3) How can I disable this, because I do not want thumbnails of my address book. This is quite ridiculous. My entire Applications folder is like 16 GB! Thanks in advance.

It helped, thanks ! I am not able to get the local "On My Mac" account do display even after trying different permissions on the folder.
For now, I just deleted the cached files. Will see if they are created again.
This is a serious issue though and needs to be addressed, hope someone at Apple is reading this discussion. Is there a way to file a bug report with Apple?

You can delete the content of the cathe if you use JWS-setting.
(My JWS is Japanese, so deteil will be different.)
1) Start JWS
2) "File"-"Setting"
3) click the "Detail"-tab
4) You can see application folder option
5) click "clear folders"
-> delete all cathes

How do I delete a page from thumbnail view if they are all locked in one yellow box? Never happend before. What do I need to turn off?
Why did it group the three pages? I added a page to the document and it grouped all three together.

Here is the deal with this nonesense. It is again a Pages fault to over design. In order to delete a complete page within a series of pages in your document. You must leave the view thumbnail, goto Sections and delete the page out of sections. Why? Likely because you can add page break, additional pages in sections but not in thumbnail. EASIER PAGES/MAC SOLUTION: Click on the page in the thumbnail veiw and hit delete, but that would be to simple for the mac/pages software developers. Still a great tool to use though.

How can I disable chart from the existing report?
Do I need to go WAD and look for the templet for particular query and check for setting?
Query contains the chart, so I am assuming web template was used to create it. Pleas help me to get some directions and steps to delete or disable the chart.

If you want to disable chart in report you need to go to the WAD template of that particular report and you can remove that chart from the templete.
Chat contains query behind it and query doesn't contains any chart.

How to delete or disable a systemd timer?

I don't need mandb to run everyday. Especially in my virtual machine. So I do this:
sudo rm -fr /usr/lib/systemd/system/man-db.*
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl disable man-db.timer
but I still got this:
systemctl list-timers --all

Thanks emeres. I will consider your way. I still think the timer thing is a design defect.
To tomk and graysky, remove man-db package is not an option. Because if you use Linux for several years, you are familiar with the applications you usually use. If something new comes out for example systemd. I will read ArchLinux Wiki first, it may mention man page like "See man systemd.unit for details. ". So command apropos is rarely used, but command man is not.
The reason I want to remove man-db timer is not only because above, but also because it slows down statup. I use double OS Windows and Linux. Access data in Linux partition (include a EXT4 backup hard drive) by using VBox. Command mandb runs 5 minutes at least and CPU is fully loaded in VBox. That really annoy me. Especially everyday.

How can I *permanently* disable caches?

I've turned on the Develop menu and selected 'Disable Caches'. However, this option does not 'stick', as after a few subsequent minutes of surfing, the option will turn itself off and re-enable caches on its own. How can I stop Safari from doing that?
I have tried the old trick for disabling caches (i.e. deleting the cache folders and using the 'touch' command to create empty files with the same names as those folders), but this will cause Safari to crash when the 'Warn when visiting fraudulent websites' option is turned on. So that's out.

From the Finder type shift-command-G or Go->Go to folder...
/var/folders/IZ is the path. Within the IZ folder you will see another folder with a very long, random character name. Open that folder and you will a folder named -Caches-. Within the -Caches- folder you find the folder com.apple.Safari. Inside the com.apple.Safari folder are the files Cache.db and SafeBrowsing.db. These are Safari's actual caches in Leopard. This is also the reason some people are having trouble with Safari 3.2. If they have disabled Safari's cache using the terminal or a utility like Onyx, Cocktail, or any of the other Safari utilities that disable the cache then Safari 3.2 can't access the SafeBrowsing.db and apparently crashes. This is also why turning off the fraudulent website preference causes some user's Safari to start working again. And of course, a whole lot of people were obsessed with speeding up Safari and took bad advice to disable the cache, then promptly forgot they did so. Then when Safari 3.2 blew up in their faces they had no clue. Combine that with all the third-party add-ons and, well, you get the picture.
Trashing the Cache.db and the SafeBrowsing.db files may also be a good troubleshooting tool. But remember, we're talking Leopard only, not Tiger.

How can I delete the iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie?

It's been a while since I've used iMovie, and when I opened the application tonight, I got the following message:
"iMovie needs to generate thumbnails for the videos in your iPhoto library. This process may take several minutes.
You can postpone this operation by clicking Later, but your iPhoto videos will be unavailable until the next time you restart iMovie."
I accidentally hit NOW, and the process began. When I realized it had used about 5 GBs of space, I force quit iMovie, but the disk space was not reclaimed. I need this space back now... I can import the iPhoto videos later. How can I undo the generated iPhoto video thumbnails? There was no project generated, and so no folder with the thumbnails in them. Where are they located? I would like to delete the iPhoto video thumbnails within iMovie, but preserve the thumbnails for other projects. And of course I would like to be sure that I keep the videos themselves in iPhoto - I definitely do not want to lose the videos there. Thanks for your help.

What are waveform and thumbnail caches, when to delete?

Trying to configure my system and wondering what are waveform cache files and thumbnail cache files. Also, I have a constant frames folder. When can I delete these files? Shane, got your DVD, love it.

what are waveform cache files and thumbnail cache files.
They are files that FCP uses to store like "temporary" files with your audio wave forms and thumbnail images of your clips. You can delete those folder contents when you want; FCP will rebuild them when needed.
Also, I have a constant frames folder.

I think clearing cache through Functional Administrator should do.
You can try the below process...
Search for "_pages" (get in touch with DBA to know exact path) in $COMMON_TOP and remove using command "rm -Rf _pages". Then clear cache through Functional Administrator.
