How to delete "Other"? Taking up 5GB

I checked the other threads, I wish there was a software that let me go in and delete those corrupted files. I used Diskaid and couldn't find anything. I did a restore with a backup and it brought back all the corrupted files. This is really annoying. Any help to delete the "othER"? Now all my music is gone. Great

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

First of all it's terrible, (but we know that itunes is very far to work properly, it's a store) and how many times a day we should make a restoring? and if it does not have we to buy another device? I cannot believe that there aren't other solutions.

I have a 16GB iPhone 4s, I was always wondering why my other family members had so many pictures (1,000+) and so many songs, etc. with the same amount of memory. I always had problems with my phone because I'd have at most 600 photos and I'd get a notice saying I should manage my settings and I wouldn't allowed to take more photos, etc. I checked how much space these things were taking and the "other" category has 4. 79 GB that it's taking up! I read that I should restore my phone but I wouldn't wanna lose my pictures.
If i restore my phone when how do I add the photos back into camera roll, rather than add it to an album?
And why is "other" taking so much space? I read it's from corrupt files, but where did all this corrupt files come from?

The issue source is likely a corrupt app. If you have an app or two that has not been widely used and reviewed, those are the places to look. If you haven't done the restore yet, you could also check Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data and see which app(s) are crashing a lot. That may help.
"Another way to restore contacts and photos"? That depends a lot on what source you're using for these. If, for example, you use iCloud, restoring contacts would be trivial - simply turn on Contacts in iCloud on your iPhone and you're done. The basic way is to use the iTunes tabs (e.g., Photos) and select what you want there.

How to delete 'other' from iPhone 4

Lately I've noticed the 'other' portion of memory on my iPhone is taking up more and more room, by more room, I mean about 1 GB. I've cleared the browser cache and history for my web browsers but that didn't seem to do much. Is there an app out there or some process in iTunes I can run that will clean this up back down to a more reasonable level?
Also, what exactly goes in to the 'other' folder?

1GB to 2GB of other is normal size, anything over that would be considered corrupted files.
Note you can't completely delete others.

It is very strange that you lost ~43 MB of phone memory in two days! If you think the web browser cache is still to blame, you can try deleting it manually using a third-party file browser like Y-Browser (http://www.drjukka.com/YBrowser.html , then scroll to the bottom) or X-Plore (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=download). Delete the entire contents of C:\System\Cache , but not the Cache folder itself. Reboot and see if that makes a difference.
If that doesn't fix the problem, some people have blamed Bluetooth file transfers on lost phone memory. Maybe you have done this lately? (Beware that I rambled too much. ) Your best friend may be NetQin's Mobile Guard program. He measn that you need to connect your phone to the PC via the USB data cable. From there you can access both the Phone's internal memory as well as that of the SD card. You can easuly delete any files in the SD card that way.

Other is basically the operating system (OS X) and the temporary files the OS needs to function. If you are curious you may notice that Other is smaller when you first restart your computer and that it grows the longer the computer has been 'up' (that is used without restarting or shutting down). For most people Document files take up a very small amount of hard drive space which is probably why it doesn't get its own category.
You really have little control over Other. Photos, music and movies take up the most space on most people's drives and should be the target of your investigation. I generally recommend that people buy an external drive and movie their iTunes library to it. This article explains how to make the move. Once you've done it you can delete the iTunes Music folder from your computer's hard drive (it can be found in your iTunes folder which is in the Music folder). Don't delete the iTunes folder or anything else that is inside it.

I have a 4S that had 5+G of "other" that I was trying to free up. I searched and searched, tried all the suggestions and had no success. I tried a full restore and freed up the memory but didn't want to loose all my settings, app folders, etc. After a process of elimination the solution that worked for me was to delete txt messages! When I went from the 3G to the 4S I restored from a back up. I've never delete any of my txt message history... so all that information, photos, videos, etc were being caried from one device to the other for like 3 years!
I started with a test. Pluged in my 4S, synced it. Registered 5.2GB of "other". I ejected the phone from itunes. I deleted my wifes txt message (with whom I txt the most). I plugged back in and "other" dropped down by an entire Gig!! So, I tried again with another that I txt often... and sure enough when down another Gig.
So, I decided to take the plug and start off fresh... I deleted ALL of my txt messages and my "other" memory went down to .52gigs!
This is why a FULL restore has been successful for those trying to clear out "other" memory. When you initiate a Full restore, you are cleaning out your entire memory of txt messages which includes large files of photos and videos!
So this is what worked for me folks! I hope it helps someone!

What sort of default emails? Do you mean @icloud.com versions with the same username? - that's normal. Or do you mean additional aliases? You delete these at http://icloud.com - go to the Mail page, click the cogwheel icon at top right, choose 'Preferences' then 'Accounts in the toolbar of the pane which opens. Select the alias you want to delete and click the '-' button below the list. And change your password. If it's not one of these types, what is it exactly (don't post your actual email address).

I had a lodger for around 6 months who used my PC to play music.
Whilst doing so, he created his own account and downloaded music in to my Library.
Every so often I will come across a song that wants his iTunes login. I would like to delete all music associated with his account leaving mine.
Is there an easy way to do this as I don't fancy ploughing my way though 30,000 songs to do this ?

Sure hope you didn't keep any personal info on your computer.
You should always create a new computer login for anyone to use your computer.
You can sort by Kind and look at Purchased but this will not tell you who purchased what.
There are AppleScripts for Macs that will put songs into playlists by purchaser.
