How to delete /.Trashes, but do I want to?

As I was backing up a system with Carbon Copy Cloner, I noticed it was spending a lot of time archiving files with the name ".Trashes/501/Previous Systems.localized/Previous System 1/..." There are hundreds of megabytes there.
It seems to me these are files left over from an archive and install that should have been deleted, but for some reason haven't been. I don't want them taking up the considerable amount of space they seem to occupy.
I tried logging in as root, but I can't find these files - of course, the directory is invisible.
Am I right? Should these files / directories be deleted? How?

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /.Trashes/ as the path, and delete the folder, or log in with the first account created on that computer and empty the Trash; if the first account doesn't have that UID, try them all until you find the correct one or follow the first option.
"The folder cannot be found" on the only user account that exists at present. I have created other "test" accounts in the past, but I've deleted them.
I will try logging in as root (as soon as CCC is finished), but I have a feeling the folder won't be found under root either.
What if this directory was created by an account that no longer exists...? Obviously I can wipe the disk (already did that) but reinstalling from the backup also reinstalled the unwanted .Trashes directories.
Over 3 GB and counting...

I just did my initial back up to hard drive (My Passport for Mac 1TB) with TIme Machine on Snow Leopard. I had wanted to omit trash but couldn't find it. All went great and finished in an hour. Then said would restart at 6pm. I went into options about 20 minutes before (when it was done initially) to try and find how to delete trash from being backed up next time.. THis messed things up and now it doesn't recognize the disk and won't let me manually back up...says error. What do I do?

You're drawing an erroneous conclusion. Dependencies for base are self contained within base. That is to say, you can install only the packages in base, and boot into a working system.
If it's not working, then it gives rise to the idea that you have packages outside of the base group that are providing the functionality of packages in base. I'm not willing to test this further than verifying what I think the output of the comm should be -- and it looks correct on my end.

How to delete all but visible area of a layer

I think this should be simple, but I can't figure out how to do it. I have a container I'm trying to draw with a border around it, to this border I'm going to apply various effects so it needs to remain a separate layer from the container.
To create the boarder I just created a copy of the container and scaled one down by the size I wanted the boarder to be. Now, in order for the effects I want to apply to work properly (name create a beveled edge), I need to delete the parts of it that are masked by the topmost layer. The only thing I'm coming up with so far is using the magic wand tool to select the top layer and deleting that selection from the bottom layer (which will act as the outside edge of the container). This isn't ideal because it ends up deleting some of the transparency where the containers overlap which I would like to keep.
A side question which I feel I should know, but just can't figure out as of yet. I feel like I shouldn't have to be using the magic wand tool to select the top layer since I want to select everything visible in that layer, is there a way to do this?

hello, I recently purchased an apple tv that had a 750gb hd installed, I use it for boxee usage and using Nito TV to watch avi files ahtt I ftp to the unit and watch. When I purchased the past user left about 100 older movies on it...
1. I have not sync'd with my IMAC itunes but want to delete several of the movies but leave some of them on it.
2. Is there anyway I can delete some (I found the mp4 files on the \mnt\Media\"f folders" on the unit but
3. aside from viewing those via preview and being able to determine which movie is which then delete, is there a way to then remove the "movie info" from the "my movies" after deleting one of these files ?

You can't merge Apple IDs. You also can't cancel (delete) and existing ID, you can only choose to stop using it.

There is a delete button in every row. May I know how to delete the row that I want by getting the ID from the table and delete it from the database.

Deleting from a table is simple -> delete from tb_funds where id = <value>. Obviously replace <value> with the appropriate ID or use a bind variable (a ?) and prepared statements.
Are you asking how to pass the id associated with the table row from the browser when the button is pressed?
