How to dell laptop to a 23" mac monitor
How do I connect my dell inspirion to my 23" mac monitor. I have an adaptor (DVI to CRT I think) but my laptop doesn't have a place for the firewire cable. Any ideas how to make this work?
you are not going to connect the FireWire cable - you are only going to connect the monitor
if you wanted to use the firewire cable, you would need to add a FireWire host adapter to your machine

How to blank laptop screen when using external monitor/
Hi there
I need some help with figuring out how to configure my xorg.conf for my Arch Linux 64 bit installation on a HP Pavilion dv 5000 laptop so that I can automatically blank my laptop screen when using an external monitor. I have Arch Linux installed along with Ubuntu Feisty. In Ubuntu my external monitor (Viewsonic 1912WB) was not detected at the time of installation but with the native 1280X800 resolution that is good for the laptop takes effect for the external monitor automatically when the external monitor is plugged in. The laptop monitor goes blank when the external monitor is plugged in.
In my Arch Linux installation I have not been able to configure a dual head configuration using the ATI Radeon drivers (fglrx). I have the native 1280X800 resolution set up for the laptop monitor and this resolution takes effect for the external monitor also. However the laptop monitor also continues to function when the external monitor is plugged in. I would like to blank the laptop monitor when using the external monitor.
I am attaching my Arch Linux xorg.conf and the Ubuntu xorg.conf below. Thanks for anyone who can help, I am having a lot of difficulty in figuring out how to set up xorg.conf among all the things that I have had to learn so far in Linux and I am a relative newcomer to the whole thing. I have tried to compare the two xorg.conf files and edit my Arch xorg.conf in accordance with the Ubuntu one but it did not work and I keep getting errors!
I am using XFCE as my Desktop environment.

How do I connect a dell laptop to my wireless via mac mini?
I have a macmini (non intel) 1.42 GHz, G4 that is connected to my linksys wireless-G 2.4 router. I have a macbook pro(intel)that can connect wirelessly with no problem. However my dell laptop keeps getting bumped off. Any suggestions?
Also, could someone give me step by step directions on how to set my mac mini to only allow the macbook pro and Dell laptop to access the router?

How do I connect a mac cinema display to a dell laptop with VGA output?
I need to connect my coworkers Mac Cinema display to his Dell Laptop with VGA out, running Windows 7. We have a VGA to DVi adapter, but it doesn't work. Do we need a different adapter or a driver? Thanks.
DVI-I offered by most computers has support for up to a wider-than-1920 Digital display AND a complete set of VGA signals in it.
If you have an adapter from DVI [computer] to VGA [display] it has no conversion logic in it and should be called a VGA extractor. It will NOT work the other direction.
I think what you need is a better computer or a worser (VGA) display. -
I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.
I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop. I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.
I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).
I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga. I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb). Please help. I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.BDAqua wrote:

Hi guys and galls,
How can I transfer a 8GB .MOV file from MacBook Air (mid 2013) via external HD (Samsung S2 Portable) to a Dell laptop ? The mentioned file currently will not let me transfer it to my ext HD. I want to upload it afterwards to a Dell laptop with Windows software installed.
Reformatting the drive doesn't seem to be the sollution, since this will erase all the data stored on the ext HD, and it will only allow me to use the drive with either Apple or Microsoft equipment.
Please HELP, running out of options here... Thnx, "Apple-Dummy"Apple-Dummy wrote:

Attach the HDD to your MBP. Click on the icon on the desktop COMMAND+I. It will produce a display such as this and look what it says by FORMAT.
How do I format my External HD: FAT or ExFAT?
Do this on a PC. You will have to use the Windows equivalent of Disk Utility. I am not a Windows user so I cannot give you detailed information regarding this. I have seen on these forums that there are at times compatibility problems if formatted on a Mac.
Which one is preferred, FAT or ExFAT? And why?
Use ExFAT. FAT has a file size limitation of 4 GB.

The easiest method is to use Migration Assistant or you can put all the music onto an External HD, connect the EHD to the iMac, then open iTunes on the Mac and Drag all the files from the EHD to iTunes and let them import. It is extremely simple to do

Everything I own (iPad, iPhone, mac) is set up on wi-fi. when i bring my work computer home (dell laptop), I cannot get it to keep the connection in a different room. All my other devices work.... does anybody know what i am doing wrong? please help!
Windows drivers for Intel wireless cards are known problematic.. If you have plenty of signal and it still cannot keep or hold the connection the issue can simply be the type of wireless.
Another problem is using names that windows does not easily handle.
eg If you set the TC using apple names, like
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule wireless24ad12
Then to windows this is too long.. it has spaces and it has illegal character.
Change all names on the TC to suit windows. Short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Also security must be suitable.. I have no idea how old or what OS your dell is, but if you still have issues.. pull off the security on the TC for a test.. if the computer suddenly works, it is not compatible with WPA2 AES. Make sure you also use a password that is mix upper and lower case plus numbers.. avoid special characters and make it 10-20 characters long say.. it is not required to be more than that unless you are paranoid. -
Can I install windows on a Mac Mini using a disk copy of my Dell laptop

I bought an iphone 5C and my music from my dell laptop doesn't let me sync my music into my phone. When i first bought it I accidentally pressed don't show again on itunes. How do I download itunes 11.1 or later now? I have been trying for atleast a month, but I can't find any solutions. I had payed a lot of money on those songs and albums, and now I can't even sync it on to my phone. I know it was stupid of me to press that button, but I need help on trying to get it to sync. -Mohima
You need to have the latest version of iTunes on the computer, version 11.1.3 to be able to handle syncing a newer phone with iOS 7. The iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with syncing and is installed by the iOS.
Go to iTunes on the computer, click on Help, Check for updates to update iTunes on the computer, or go to to www.apple.com/itunes/download and download and install the latest version of iTunes to correct your problem. -
My computer is saying it can't find the file 'iTunes64.msi' when I try to update or redownload iTunes how do I fix this? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I am using a dell laptop running windows 7 and have tried changing the file location to run the update in all of my iTunes files as well as when I've tried reinstalling it.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files... -
I have aperture 3.2.4 on my laptop and have the serial number, but just bought a new MAC and I can't get the Ver 3.0 link to work. Anyone know how to move it from my laptop to our new mac?
I am talking about the Ver 3 download link that came with the purchase email.
That link is no longer available. Use "Migration Assistant" to copy your Applications from your old mac to the new Mac, then immediately run software update. Aperture Version 3.2 will not run on your new mac with Mavericks, you will have to Upgrade to version 3.4.5 at least - you can download this update from the Support page: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration key and try now too update from version 3.4.5 to 3.5 from the AppStore. The AppStore will change your Aperture registration to an AppStore version, so you will able to reinstall by downloading from the AppSTore in future.
If you want transfer only Aperture and no other applications, do it manually: You will have to copy not only the application but folders from the libraries as well:
/Applications/Aperture.app
/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
