How to desaturate everything but one specific color?

Hello guys,
I had always been wondering how I could achieve the effect where everything within a frame is desaturated, only one object (for example car or persons red jacket) stays colored.
I have heard that now it is possible to create this effect in FCP 6. But how?

You're drawing an erroneous conclusion. Dependencies for base are self contained within base. That is to say, you can install only the packages in base, and boot into a working system.
If it's not working, then it gives rise to the idea that you have packages outside of the base group that are providing the functionality of packages in base. I'm not willing to test this further than verifying what I think the output of the comm should be -- and it looks correct on my end.

How to transfer EVERYTHING from one Curve to another Curve

My daughter has a Curve for almost a years now. The service is through Verizon. Just this past week a few keys got stuck. Verizon decided the phone was defective and sent her a new phone overnight. That was great.
Now for the hard part. She's been backing up everything to her PC. One question we have is: Does EVERYTHING truely get backed up or are some apps are data not backed up? She needs to be able to sync her new Curve, once she activates it (which she hasn't yet till she understands the process to restore everything), and get everything she had before on the original Curve.
The issue is that we've gotten differing opinions from Verizon as to exactly how much is backed up and what isn't. So I felt that most likely the people on this forum would be more knowledgable.
Some more info. She doesn't use Outlook on her PC. So is her calendar still baked up in such a way that it cane be restored on the nw unit? Also, what about her Messenger? She mentioned something about the Messenger is tied to a PIN, which is tied to a phone and not a user. Is this true? I assumed (since i am not a Blackberry user myself) is that the Messenger would be similar to AOL's AIM, where the username/screen name is tied to a specific user and not a device. So how does she transfer her Messenger info?
She needs to transfer her contacts, calendar, messenger, and the PIN/password app (not sure what this is except she said that came installed on the Blackberry).
Thanks in advance for your help. This is very stressful for my daughter. She loved her Blackberry but now has to go through this process of transferring her "life" and Verizon is not very helpful.

Hi,
Since she has been packing up her data, she should be fine.
You can use the Switch device wizard in the desktop software to transfer over the data. (device to device)
If there are any third party applications, you can restore through the application loader. Some may
require a re-install, as you may have two different operating systems.
The messenger application will have to be reinstalled, as the PIN is unique. I will attach the manual,
to see if the contacts can remain, or will have to be reset.
Let me know what desktop software version your are using and I will get you a manual.

How do I Make Baground One Solid Color?

I'm taking pictures of my daughter in front of a black sheet of fabric, but the final image does not show it as one solid sheet of black...because of the light, some parts of the background are lighter than others, and there are some wrinkles visible.
How do I use Photoshop Elements to make the background solid balck (or any other color I might want) without having to carefully trace around the outline of my daughters body, which is especially difficult around the hair. Is there a way to do this so she does not end up looking superimposed?

Ususally there are several ways to do things in this program. I am providing you with details of my work flow. I selected a picture (actually a scan) with a complex background, ending up with the foreground and black background. The print screen also shows you the layer structure.
Open picture, duplicate background layer, shut off visibility of the background layer by clicking on its eye icon, and work on background copy layer. This way, if you want to start over again, you can delete the newly generated layers, and you are back to square one.
I accessed the magnetic lasso tool with feather=2px, anti alias checked, width=5 px, contrast=3%, frequency=57. I went around the 3 ladies, laying down anchor points. If you want to go back on the anchor points, do that by hitting the delete key on the keyboard.
(Some people like to use the lasso tool with the add selection box at the top highlighted, applying short intervals between mouse clicks.)
After the selection is made, go to Layer>new>layer via copy
Place a blank layer between background copy layer and layer 1, and fill this with black. Now you can see the selection well, and touch up a spot here and there with the eraser tool
Make layer 1 active, then CTRL+left click the layer thumbnail in this layer. You should see the "marching ants"
Go to select>modify>contract 2 px
Go to select>inverse>hit delete on keyboard
Go to select>inverse
Go to select>deselect
Steps 7-10 are directed to getting rid of the fringe which you describe in your post, and the numbers can be tailored to suit.

Everything but one season of one show sync

I have a 1st generation Apple TV. I've had issues with it syncing before, but turning it off and back on has always seemed to fix those issues.
I just bought a whole season of a show. It shows up in iTunes and I can play it there fine.
When I select it to sync it with my Apple TV, it never transfers it. In addition, when I try to stream it to my Apple TV, it doesn't show up in the list (neither the Unplayed or Played list), even though all the other shows that are on my iTunes show up perfectly fine. I have tried to shut down and reboot everything, even reset my Apple TV and tried to start from scratch. This one season just never shows up on the Apple TV in any form.
When I tried to sync the first episode to my iPad or iPhone, it acts as if it synced it, even shows up in the list of videos, but it won't play on either device. I tried the second episode and now both play perfectly fine on both devices. Yet, they still won't sync or show up for streaming on the Apple TV. All the other seasons of the same series play perfectly fine every where.

In iTunes go to TV Shows. Right click on the episodes and select "Get Info" and edit the fields so the bad episodes match the good episodes and they should resort properly.

9i - How to save everything in one tablespace and put back in later?

I'm trying to do a very simple refresh of a 9i database. Basically shutting it down and copying all the dbfs and redo files, then creating new controlfiles. However, the database that is the source does not have one dbf (and tablespace) that the target does. I plan on dropping the one extra dbf, and refreshing the target tb, then adding in the dbf and all it's objects.
I have already done this partly but have had problems. I'm not getting all the objects that are supposed to be there. I had to recreate the user that owns all the tables in the extra dbf tablespace. Plus, how do I make sure all the permissions are reset on these objects?
I am using TOAD, so I had tried the export feature and did get most of the info. I know how to create the dbf and recreate the user. Help?

Not a good way to do refresh in this way.
Use exp/imp to refresh or maintain exact same structure between database(s). You can then use rman's duplicate method for this purpose.

There is no way to do this within Calendar directly, the Gregorian calendar has a private method that does this, shame its not public.

No it doesn't. You'll need an editor with a lasso tool for that kind of work.

There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

How to desaturate only a moving object???

I am trying desaturate a fast moving object....basically want the person who is moving fast to be in color but everything else desaturated and then vise versa.
Can anyone give me some pointers, I have Color as well if it is easier. I just cant seem to figure this out. All help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually, it sounds like you're trying to desaturate everything but the fast moving object... which leads one to ask how you might isolate that...
If everything is moving (including the camera), you're kinda SOL... however, you might be able to use a difference matte filter to get what you're looking for.
Put a copy of your clip on V2, over the same clip on V1. Add a difference matte filter to the clip on V2. Put a clip that's one frame off from your clip into the image well. Things that move slowly will not have much difference frame to frame, things that are moving faster will have more. Adjust your settings so only the moving object generates a mask.
Use color correction on the two clips to achieve your effect...

Hi! I have the latest Final Cut Studio and I'm trying to figure out how best to make everything black and white except for deep reds. I might light to add deep blues or "ripple of gold color" here and there, but the first step is understanding a good work flow for getting all but one color. Any suggestions? Much thanks!!!!!!

Hello, I have a similar question to a previous post about desaturating specific colors. I'm editing together live footage from multiple cameras for a Concert shoot and two of the four have black clothing showing up as a "purple-y red". How can I select only a specific range of colors in one locked area (So as not to affect the lights in the background which are displaying the proper red/purple colors) and adjust it to be more black without making the entire shot look overly colored/contrasted?
Sorry if this is easy but I'm new to Color and FCP wasn't much help w/ it's simple color correction effects.

Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.

Right-click the title bar of any of the panels in the righthand column of the Develop module (for example, the Basic panel) and choose "Adjustments" from the panel list that appears.

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode. In this case, all data on it is gone. There's nothing to back up.
