How to designate a program for all avi files

hi. i dl-ed the vlc player recently, but i dont know how to set it as the default player for all avi files. i secondary click on a avi file and go to others... and select the vlc player with 'always use this program' checked, but this allows only that single avi file to open with vlc. the rest of avi files are still set to open with quicktime. please kindly help me to designate the vlc player to open all avi files. thank you.

If you use the Finder and do a 'Get Info' on your target file, you'll find additional options/dialogs that will let you choose to open all similar files with the same application...check it out and come on back if you get lost in the process, etc.

You can download your file to application server in background scheduling.
In your program use OPEN DATASET command for achieving this.
How ever, as far as i know, it is not possible to download the file to presentation server in background job.

How do you set default programs for all users when deploying Windows 8.1?

I have my Windows 8.1 image set up the way I want including the start screen, theme, etc. But how can I set the default programs for all users. Most of out computers are non-touch and I want the desktop apps (e.g. Windows Photo Viewer), not the store apps
to be the default for opening pictures, videos, etc. Can that be done?

So, I did some research by using "Set Default Programs" app in Windows 8. Then I ran the super ProcMon.exe tool from Sysinternals.com <Thanks Mark!>
After filtering out the junk, I could see some *interesting* writes to the registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\UserChoice]
"Hash"="57y87/ogggU="
"ProgId"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Jpeg"
But the "Hash" part had me concerned. I did some internet searching for the hash, and came across a post and a pointer to a blog with some answers. This is both good news and bad.

New for Windows 8 is a dism command: /Get-DefaultAppAssociations that allows you to export a control case from a known good computer. Microsoft the supports importing the exported xml file via GPO. For example, before I changed the file association, .AVI
was pointing to the Modern App, after the change the /export-DefaultAppAssociations shows change to the new app:
From:
<Association Identifier=".avi" ProgId="AppXhjhjmgrfm2d7rd026az898dy2p1pcsyt" ApplicationName="Video" />
To:
<Association Identifier=".avi" ProgId="VLC.avi" ApplicationName="VLC media player" />
I am still doing some investigation to see if a GPO is required, or if you can inject the association into a local user account. Also, if you do have some Modern Windows 8 Touch Tablets, it would recomend keeping most of the Modern App defaults in place,
perhaps seperate GPO's for Desktops/Laptops vs Tablets?

Control-click a pdf file and choose "Get Info". In the Info window choose which application to open the file with and then click on the "change all" button. Voila!

Your redemption code was used to acquire an activation code. The activation code is what you need to use when you want to reinstall/enable the software again. Check your Adobe account online to see if the number(s) can be found there.

Tim,
Right click on one of your MP3 files and select "get info". In the get info screen you can select the default program to open the file. Then select Change All.. to make it the default for all MP3s.

SNR License Issue. How Can I Disable SNR for all Users?

I Have an issue with SNR on CUCM 10.5 and with assignement of license type
I have a cluster with 400 users.
200 users use ip phone 3905 and should be use an Essential License.
When system check for assignement of license type , itassign a Basic License instead of an Essential License, because it see that users have SNR Enabled.
All users in my system have SNR enabled, and I can not disable it. All my user have Enable Mobility unchecked, and all my phone have Device Mobility Off, but system however see SNR enable.
How can i disable SNR for all users? This is a feature that client don't need.
I dont' have a sufficent number of licenses for support all 3905 in Basic License.

Well actually, Mobile Identity wouldn't apply to a 3905 unless those phones had another line on a Dual-Mode device like an iPhone or Android phone. So unless you have either of those in your system you can scratch that idea. Someone else may chime in here and try to help a bit more as RD/RDP are the main SNR culprits.
