How to detect the Whine or the Display sound

Hi everybody, im thinking to buy a MBP, but in my country (Argentina) the return policies arent too fluent...so if I can detect the whine or the lcd sound, it should be in the store, because, after taking home the mbp, it will be a war with them exchange the mbp. And if they agree to exchanged it, it will be last one month or more.
Sorry if somebody explained this before, but I read all the posts I can about this but I couldnt find exactly where I should hear to notice the sound.
Thanks

Fer, espero que no seas de Boca...
The screen whine is very loud. It's caused by a defective logic board and Apple is replacing them. This noise goes away if you put full brightness on the screen , and ppl that had it say it's ear-piercing.
The CPU whine will be there... I know the guy that exports them to Argentina and the last shipment was last week . This noise is more like a 'hiss' and you can hear it only when operating on battery. It comes from the left side of the keyboard close to the screen and it goes away using photobooth or mirror widget, or a BT mouse.
In my case its so low pitched that I don't even know it exists and I don't use any method to cut it down. you'll have to unplug one and see for yourself if it bothers you.
If you need more details email me. I'm an Argie too.

  • How loud is the whine on the new 2Ghz MacBook?

I have been seeing alot of posts about people complaing about the whining thier MacBook is making. I was wondering how loud it is, and if its really anything to be concerned about. My old iBook makes some noise, but its not anything that annoys me, and you can't even hear it if there is some other noise in the room (i.e. TV, music, etc.).
Also, people have been talking about mooing, what the heck is that?
    Thanks!

Mine doesn't. When plugged in I get a very very faint buzz from the charging but it's not the CPU whine like the 15" MBPs have and it's about 10x fainter in volume at least. I've gotten very good at hearing the CPU whine and this isn't it (at least on mine).
My black macbook whines too when the AC adapter is
    plugged in

  • How to detect peak frequencies in the frequency domain?

    Hello,
I have built a small test program consisting of two sine waves of variable frequencies, there sum is found and subsequently FFT is performed on it to find the two peak frequencies. I have been trying to somehow display the values of these two frequencies but I just can't find a way.
I searched the forum before posting the question, many of them suggested using the Extract Multiple Tone Information VI which I tried and couldn't get any results.
I have attached my file. Please have a look. If you know any threads on the forum directly related to my problem, please just cite it.
    Thanks,

  • How to detect keystroke events on the console

I'm currently implementing a basic menu driven system which needs to
identify keystroke events (eg. alpha characters). I'm not too sure of the
best way to deal with this, but can anyone suggest how one could go
    about doing this?
    Cheers,
    Richie !

If you are refering to the ability to capture user key strokes you will need to add a listener to the class. If is a matter of is it a charater or a number then look into isDigit. Or are you trying to capture Hot-Keys? Please specify and will see if we can help - Bart

  • How to detect locale specified in the BI platform in a Dashboard custom component

Does anyone know if there is a way to determine the locale which is specified in the BI Platform (see pic below) from a custom component?
During design time we can use proxy.getLocale() to determine the locale specified in dashboards, but we would like to be able to determine the user's platform locale preference at runtime.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Eddie

    Hi Eddie,
As Arjit suggested, there are a bunch of functions available in WEBI like GetDominantPreferredViewingLocale(), GetLocale() and GetPreferredViewingLocale(), etc. that you could use.
There are no such specific functions provided within Dashboards tool.
So, you can create a WEBI report, and have one of these formulas specified in a variable in the webi report. Then, have the block published as a BIWS and use this BIWS in your dashboard.

  • How to detect the OS version and the hardware info??

Hi all, according to the project needs, I to know how to detect OS version and the hardware info.
The point is to detect client's OS version, weather Win98, 2000, XP, Vista.
I have been search the information for several days already.
But can not really found a example which returns the OS version like"Windows XP Version 2002 *****".
And also could not find the CPU type such as"Core 2 due, or  pentium D".
Is there anyone have done this before?
    Thanks.
The Info I need looks like the photo below.

Well, in fact I have the VI and also read the topics as well...... The searching tag is OS info , system info......... After reading your post, now I understand the relation between the version number and the real OS version now, tks.  And another problem is, the processor type returned within the VI have only 4 type:"INTEL 386, INTEL 486, PENTIUM, Unknown".
It can not really return my CPU TYPE. For example the desktop I’m using now is a Pentium, D , 2.80G, 2.80G.. and it only returns type "Pentium". That's why I'm asking is there any other way to do this...... (( Please forgive me if you can not really know what I'm talking about in my first post, now I know how bad my english is.......   ))  I guess I can only try to find out the solution from the registry then... Thanks for your information and reply.

  • How loud is the whine exactly?

Im preparing for the worst.. how bad is the whine that you guys experience? Would it be enough to get kicked out of class? I won't have time to send this one back once it gets here because school is starting and I need it for my digital media class.

The loudness varies. Many users can hear the whine when sitting at a normal arms-length typing distance from their notebook. For others, the whine is much louder and can be heard several yards away.
It may be enough for a prof to ask you to shut down the machine, if the room is small and the prof has sensitive ears. I take a lot of classes in small conference rooms that seat ~15 people. Some of my profs would tease me for the whine, but never asked me to shut my MBPRO off. It was definitely much quieter than, for example, a Dell P4 notebook with the fans cranking full blast. The high-pitched nature of the noise may be especially irritating to some people, thougn.
Anyway, if you are worried about your MBPRO getting kicked out of class then there are several workarounds you could use in that setting. You could use the PhotoBooth workaround, or possibly the Mirror Widget workaround. Another option is to install Apple Developer Tools and run the CHUD tools. In CHUD there is an option to disable one of the processor's cores, which kills the whine. The downside to these workarounds is that you lose processor performance and battery life

  • The "WHINE"--recording music & Logic

    Hey everyone,
I just found this website and the guy claims he was able to record the whine using Logic Pro WITHOUT even using a microphone.
    http://web.mac.com/paulthespecialist/iWeb/Paul%20Turner/MacBook%20Pro%20Whine%20 Sound.html
This is very troubling for me. I have a MBP with the whine and will be recording music with Logic. The thing is, I have learned to “accept” the whine and use various work-arounds (mainly the mirror-widgit and QuietMBP sometimes) to make the whine go away.
My QUESTION is this: If I record music using Logic AFTER I have stopped the whine using the mirror widget, for example, could the whine STILL be picked up when recording? (Say, somehow internally, or some other way?) This is very important because I bought my MBP solely for recording purposes and I’m getting ready to invest over $5000 on other music equipment to work in conjunction with my MBP. Please, anyone with any knowledge or experience with this, please respond! Thank you.

It works very well for me, and appears to have had no ill effect on my computer. It's the best solution and is used by many on this forum. So the decision's yours. Until Apple decides to build this fix into OSX this is how we do it...:) It completely distracted me until I found the answer on here. Hope it works for you, should you decide to try it.

  • Any week 26+ MBP with the whine?

I'm wating to order my third MBP replacement until I know that the whine has been fixed. Rumors have that it should be fixed very soon if not already.
My first week 18 had the whine all the time. My second one (week 24) only had it when running on batteries, unfortunately the screen had a group of miscolered pixels (neither dead or stuck, miscolored !?!).
My question is if anyone has a week 26+ MBP, that still has the whine?
    Thx.
    Dell   Windows 2000

    Hallo,
    here the whine test:
The 'bzzz','ssssss','Hissssggemmm' comes right from where you plug the AC adapter into you MBP.
It disappears after starting Photo booth.
On most MBPs it also disappears when running on battery.
Which production week is your MBP? ( the 4. and 5. digit of your serial number like W86xx )
    Regards
    Marc

paul_123 wrote: hi i want to know how to detect browser crash ..
Like the other person that replied, I do not quite understand why it is of interest that the end user's browser crashes. If, like they suspect, it is to do with your applet, I think the best solution is to launch the applet using webstart and forget the browser. If the end user launches a webstart based applet from the browser and the browser crashes, the applet will keep working just fine.
Is your applet publicly available? If so, what is the URL where we can see it?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....
