How to diagnose a broken 30 pin dock connector?

Is there a "diagnostic" application to determine if my Iphone 4 — 30 pin dock connector is fully functional? BTW - all lint and dirt has been removed (delicately). This iPhone has been able to perform TV/video out and mirror display with a (still) fully functional 30 pin to VGA connector, VGA cable and VGA equipped monitors. This phone currently cannot perform the same task. Only other variable is a conflict with iOS 6.1.3.
Thanks for any help.

  • Lost 30 pin dock connector cap - need info as to where I can replace it

I feel I'm alone in the universe. I have lost the little white 30 pin dock connector cap for my 3G, 15 Gb iPod. Does anyone know how I can get some replacement caps? Apple does not seem to offer them as a after sale item. I have searched iLounge and found a mythical reference to a filco product called the Dock protector cap but one reference link was dead and the other put me through to a Japanese Amazon page that was unintelligible. Are there any domestic products available? A quick look at Belkin and Griffin came up empty. Please help!

  • Headphone jack broken, using dock connector instead?

So after dropping my iPod the other day the headphone jack is acting a little funky, I have to twist and fiddle with the headphones a little bit to get the sound to play in both ears nicely (It's not the headphones as I've tried with several pairs).
Since my warranty has expired I was hoping to use a dock connector I believe its called then connected to my headphones.
    My questions are
    1) Will this avoid the sound issue I'm having since I ASSUME it's an issue with just the headphone jack.
2)I'm looking at these two products
    http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-35508-iPod-Compatible-Connector/dp/B000J022G6
    http://www.yourusbcable.com/product/Ipod%20Dock%20Connector
which will then need another thing to connect to my headphones, can anyone think of a better way of or product for doing this?

I am also having problems with my headphone jack. if i can get best buy to validate my 2 yr warranty i can exchange, but in the meantime i ordered some bluetooth headphones. i bought these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/595037-REG/SonyDRBT100CX_BLU_DR_BT100CX_Bluetooth_WirelessStereo.html

  • IPod Touch (3rd Generation) 30-Pin Dock Connector to 3.5mm

Can anyone tell me if there are any 30-Pin to 3.5 mm connector cables available for the iPod Touch - 3rd Generation? I used to have several of these that I used with my 80GB Classic (connecting my Classic to my car stereo, home stereo, portable speakers, etc.) , but none of them seem to work with the 3rd gen. touch.
    Thanks!

Check out SendStation's "PocketDock" with a 3.5mm jack and mini-USB connector. This gives you line-out audio level from the 3.5mm jack, much better than the headphone output.

  • Broken Microphone & Dock Connector

Ok i was in the middle of a call on friday, and put the phone down to enoy a ncie meal, rang my mate back and he couldn't here me so i tried again, and still nothing, was really shouting and he couldn't here me, so i rang lots of other mobiles and my microphone has stopped working, and then i plug my phone into PC, it works, for the sake it knows theres power, but doesn't show up as charging or in the iTunes menu or anywere on either my PC or mac, tried at work today and still nothing, but it charges (nothing shows it charging) but if your leave it plugged in and then restart it, the battery bar goes up.
all i did after the call was put the phone back into my pocket, and it has charged before then, any ideas? or am i going to have to send it for repair? do i get another phone whilst it's gone? I am insured with carephone warehouse.

Return it to Carphone Warehouse only they can really tell you the terms of the insurance.
To be honest though it is not an insurance repair, it should be covered under the standard UK 12 month warranty that you get on all goods purchased in the UK.
Insurance only covers damage, theft, loss etc not device failure.

  • 1 Gen Touch Dock Connector

I have an old 1st Gen Touch which my kids use. I think that the dock connector is dying/dead. It works fine, but I can only charge it using a car charger and holding it in a certain way. I cannot connect it to my PC as the USB connector cannot get connected.
How can I repair/replace the dock connector for the touch? Is that something I can do (I'm fairly handy), or is it something that the Apple store can do for me?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Your dock connector is connected to the logic board. You will need to remove the logic board to get to the dock connector. The full step by step process is [*_Shown Here_*|http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iPod-Touch-1st-Generation- Logic-Board/632/1]. The level of difficulty to get this done without further damage is described as DIFFICULT (Ratings are Easy, Moderate, Difficult). You can be your own judge after reading the instructions.
My recommendation is to get a cost estimate from the Apple Store first and then decide whether to take the Apple Store's offer or go for the self-repair.

  • Preventing DOCK CONNECTOR option through A2DP BT set up?

When I go into my car and I want to mount my iPhone 4 into the cigarette Belkin dock mount, I always get an option for DOCK CONNECTOR or MYBLUETOOTH through music app. I ALWAYS connect to my bluetooth. Is there a way to prevent the option to show up and be recognized other than being charged going along with my bluetooth as a default option set up?

Similar question: would love to know a way to set the iPod connection as a default.
I have a 2009 Acura TL with bluetooth and an iPod dock connector built in. I have an iPhone 4. I always keep the bluetooth on so I can talk hands-free while driving. When I plug in the iPhone with the dock connector and switch to iPod mode on the car, it will start playing and then within 5-10 seconds, switch to Handsfree Mode, even though the dock connector is plugged in. This is very frustrating and counter-intuitive. If I wanted to play thru the BT connection, I would have not plugged in the iPhone. But once it's plugged in, why does it insist on switching to BT? I am forced to go thru the steps to switch the connection manually to the dock connector each and every time I want to listen to music thru my iPhone.
Granted, this is better than the previous iOS version, where the exact same problem existed but was worse, because after manually switching to dock connector, it would on its own always switch back to BT connection, no matter how many times I re-selected dock connector. This forced me to use BT for music even though I didn't want to. I wonder if there's any way to change any setting so that if the iPhone is plugged in, it knows this and doesn't switch to BT mode for the iPod function.

  • Unusual iPod Nano Dock Connector

My iPod Nano 4GB Black (Second Generation) appears to have an unusual dock connector on the bottom. All the accessories that seem to be available have a wide connector on them bu the connector on my iPod Nano is very small.
Does anyone know why this is please?

where did you buy the "iPod"? To know if it really is an iPod, look on the back, it should have an Apple logo. Look for a serial number. Does it have a click wheel? Do you need to use iTunes to update it? Is the headphoone port to the right of the iPod Dock connector? If you answered "no" to any of these or the "iPod" in question does not look like others, you don't have an iPod. I suppose it would be possible for someone to put iPod software on a fake, but it would be hard because the iPod updaters are no longer available and the 2nd Generation Nano just used iTunes to update it, not another program. The cable you use to connect the device should be from Apple and should be white. The wide end that plugs into the iPod is called the "30 Pin Dock Connector" and should have a small rectangle with a line through it (both grey). The USB A end (the smaller one that plugs into your computer) should have the Apple logo and the USB symbol. There should be no printing on the cord. if the iPod in question does not resemble ANY of this, it's a counterfeit.

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Did this start happening after an iOS update? Sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility.
    Sometimes this works:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How do you get sound through the dock connector to a PC or Mac?

Where I work they have blocked the Pandora website. (Along with just about every other online radio site.) They don't mind if we listen to music, as long as it's not streamed online through their network.
I have both a PC & a Mac on my desk.
What I would like to do is listen to my Pandora app from my iPhone by plugging the dock connector into a Mac or PC. This would keep the battery drain to a minimum & allow for better quality.
When I plug in the dock connector the phone starts charging & iTunes want's to sync. I can run the Pandora app, but no sound comes through the computer.
Does anyone know how to get the audio to come from the dock connector & play through the computers sound card?

    You have several choices:
    1. Composite AV Cable: has a dock connector on one end and USB, RCA line out and RCA composite video on the other. It also comes with an AC Adaptor.
    2. Component AV Cable: same as the Composite AV Cable but with RCA component video.
    3. Universal Dock: has a dock connector socket on it and a line out socket.
    4. iPhone 3G Dock or the (original iPhone Dock): same as the Universal Dock but designed just for the iPhone.
All you need is somewhere to plug the line out into.

  • My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock.

My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock, only through the iPod's internal speaker. Help please!

Have you tried resetting both the iPod and dock? To reset the iPod, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
To reset the dock, unplug it and plug it back in.
