How to dictate the word comma in Mountain Lion

I have scoured the Internet trying to find out how to get Mountain Lion's Dictation to actually dictate a word that it normally produces as punctuation.  For example, how would I have it say the following?
"Insert a comma instead of a period."
In other words, I'm looking for some type of "escape" feature, like the backslash often is in coding.

Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN.

How large is the up date for mountain lion for my mac in mega bites?

    Here are the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
You need 8 GB of available hard drive space (plus another 10 GB or so to have empty and available at any time for the OS to operate properly). The installer itself is just over 4 GB (all the numbers are in Gigabytes, not megabytes).
And it is considered an upgrade (you need to pay for it) rather than an update (which would be free).

  • Hey,guys! Is there anyone know how to get the free OS X Mountain Lion exactly?

Excuse me.I'm still puzzled how to apply for the free 1.I bought my Pro on July, before release date.I try to apply for a free one on this webside:
                                                 https://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
but after I filled the table and send it,I saw the terms and conditions below, saying that:
To receive your OS X Mountain Lion upgrade, you must complete the order form and provide an electronic copy of a dated, itemized sales receipt indicating the marketing part number(s) of the qualifying product(s) purchased. Order acknowledgments, packing slips, and purchase order copies are not valid.
Completed order form and dated, itemized sales receipt must be emailed by August 24, 2012.
Well, the problem is how to email my paper receipt?should I take a photo for it and mail it?but I don't know send it to where, not an e-mail address has been mentioned on that webside,I mean.
    could you help me,please?

Open up Java Preferences and it will offer to download and install Java for you.
Otherwise you can open up a Terminal and type:
    java -version
Which will do the same thing.

You have to reinstall OS X. Open App Store > Purchases, and download and install Mountain Lion, so Recovery HD will be created.
Also, if your Mac is compatible with Internet Recovery, you don't need Recovery HD. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904

  • Has anybody figured out how to fix the battery consumption with mountain lion (using a MBP 13")?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and yes despite all of the warnings posted in the App Store reviews about the battery life being cut in half, I upgraded my MBP anyway. Chalk this one up to the Black Cloud of "I Told You SO!" My MBP could hold a charge for almost 6.5 hours. Now I'm luck if I can get 3, but in most cases I may get 2.5 hours if I'm conservative.
Has anyone figure out how to fix this battery problem? Even now after having it unplugged for almost 2 hours...I'm getting the "You are now running on reserve battery power" message. What a freaking joke!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Open /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.  Click %CPU until the triangle points down beside it.  Make sure it says All Processes in the upper right.  Check for applications taking up lots of CPU time.

  • How to rename the OS drive in Mountain Lion

Short of reformatting and reinstalling/restoring the drive from a clone or Time Machine is there a way to rename the hard drive i]n which the OS is installed, specifically from "Lion" to "Mountain Lion." This is a task easily accoplished in other operating systems.

Finder > Preferences > General > "Show these items on the desktop:" Hard Disks. Right click, click Get Info. Rename.

  • When dictating, can I insert punctuation with my voice or can it be done manually? If I say the word comma, will I get "," or will I get "comma" and is there a way to fix that?

When dictating on Ipad, can I insert punctuation with my voice, as in if I say "comma" will I get "," or will the word "comma" appear? Can I manually insert punctuation as I'm dictating, such as: If you wouldn't mind, (tap on comma on pad), may I ask a question? (tap question mark on pad). OR, do I just say everything I have to say and then go back and punctuate by hand? Obviously, saying "comma" and getting "comma" is NOT going to help out my sentences!

weird. When I do it, I have to spell out comma and period if I don't want the punctuation... I just tried the exact same phrase and got "As I said, please don't disturb me." Is there a setting under dictation that says something like "spell out punctuation"?

  • How many macs can i upgrade to mountain lion if i used the free upgrade program

I recently bought a macbook air and received the free upgrade to mountain lion. Will i be able to just simply go to my app store account on another macbook (macbook pro snow leopard) and upgrade that to mountain lion as well?

sorry to drag this on, your answers were great i kinda forgot to clicked the "this solved my question" thing.. but is there a limit on the number of computers i can download it for free to?
Not to muddy the waters but according to the license agreement here: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX108.pdf, Apple distinguishes between a "Preinstalled and Single-Copy Apple Software License" and a "Mac App Store License." The Preinstalled license limits use of the installer to one copy on one Apple-branded computer. The Mac App Store License allows the installation of "one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running OS X Lion or OS X Snow Leopard (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control." Since in either case, the free upgrade is going to be coming from the Mac App Store it would seem that the Mac App Store License applies. But since the intent of the free upgrade is to serve as an inducement to buy a computer with a soon to be replaced OS by offering a free upgrade of the OS preinstalled on the purchased computer, perhaps it is covered by the Preinstalled wording. The Terms and Conditions of the upgrade program are unclear on that but maybe it becomes a matter of how the content code that's issued works. If the content code can be used more than once with your Mac App Store account or if the Mountain Lion installer appears as available for installation when you log into your Mac App Store account on a Mac different from the one that qualified you for the upgrade, then it would seem that the Mac App Store License is what applies here. Of course I'm no lawyer; if I was, I'm sure it would be even more complicated.

  • I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

Depending upon how extensive your library of legacy Microsoft Office data files are, you may want to consider continuing to use Microsoft Office 2004.
Microsoft Office's 2011 version is compatible with Lion and presumably either works with Mountain Lion or an update will make it so.  The problem with this approach is that Office 2011 will "convert" your earlier data files and there lies the rub!  For example, I have the need to weekly open a chart created in Excel 2004, but Excel 2011 trashes the chart in its "conversion."
So I have approached the overall problem differently.
The reason your applications do not work in Mountain Lion is that they were written for the older PowerPC CPU that all Macs used up to 2006.  When Apple made its transition to the Intel CPU, they licensed software that they included in all versions of OS X (from Tiger to Leopard and optionally, Snow Leopard) called Rosetta.
Rosetta miraculously allows PowerPC applications to work on the Intel processor transparently; you do not know it is even present.
The problem is that after 6 years of the transition, Apple's license to use the underlying software expired for OS X Lion and all version thereafter (and it is doubtful that the current owner of the software, IBM, would relicense it, even if Apple were inclined to do so).
So for those of use that need to run Lion, I have offered the option to install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7:
    And now Mountain Lion:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions into Parallels 7 are here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
Snow Leopard is $29 and Parallels 7 is $79 retail (cheaper from competitive sources) and Parallels offers a 14 day free trial of Parallels 7 on their website:

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.
