How to digital sign

Hello
I want to use exportData() without intervention from the user except hitting a Export button but I can't get the "security thing" (Digital ID) to work. When I hit the button nothing happends.
It works fine if I leave the filenamne blank and the filedialog pop-up.
Is there any guide telling me how to do this? I have read the help but I can't figure out how to do it.

You cannot it is a security breach to do that .... you can sertify the form to allow this to happen but that has its own issues.

Can you please guide me on how this can be done? Should I do it at the Database level, Application server level or the OS level (sendmail)

We currently have a process in place that tracks all of our deliverables and notifies our government clients when we have invoiced them. We email them a message to let them know an invoice is ready to be approved. They login to our site via a browser, view the invoice, and approve or disapprove it. If approved a PDF of the invoice is created via ColdFusion and is sent to them.
There may be an upcoming requirement to have the client digitally sign the document. This is where the fog begins. How best to do this? Assuming that each client will have a PKI ID (and that's a big assumption), how do they sign the document? I know they can open the PDF and sign it, and then I can setup a ColdFusion-based form to allow them to upload it back to us, but is there any other way?

We use RightSignature.com; it works great and our customers like it. DocuSign.com has been trying to get our business as well. The advantage of DocuSign over RightSignature is that everything can be signed without the user leaving our site whereas RightSignature sends the user an email with a link to sign and then sends us the final signed document. Since we're not using DocuSign, I'm not sure if there are other pros and cons.

Do you mean a tool other than Adobe Acrobat or Reader? Since this is the Acrobat SDK, your users would already have Acrobat installed and can sign PDFs just fine.
What would you be adding to that?

It depends on what "transport" mechanism you plan on using. If you choose to use PKIX standards, then a PKCS7 object gives you the structure for transporting the contents along with its signature. If you prefer to use "modern" web standards, then the W3C's XMLSignature standard gives you the structure you need for transporting content and signature. (I prefer XMLSignature for new applications).
Yes, any object - text or binary - can be digitally signed and transported using either of these standards.

We have copiers and a large format scanner that can create PDF files. We would like to be able to affix digital signatures to these documents. The application is that we create plan sets for public construction projects and those are 'stamped' with a seal. We would like to start doing that electronically if possible. We have Adobe Acrobat Pro verson 8.

If you really want a digital signature, you can easily add one in Acrobat. I don't have Acrobat 8 to tell you exactly how you'd do it, but the Acrobat help doc should have more information. In Acrobat 9, you do it by selecting: Advanced > Sign & Certify > Place Signature
or: File > Save as Certified Document
You will first have to set up a digital identity. In Acrobat 9 you do this by selecting: Advanced > Security Settings > Digital IDs > Add ID
You can create digital signature appearances that get used with a digital signature. To configure one, select (again, Acrobat 9): Edit > Preferences > Security > Digital Signatures > Appearance > New (or Edit)
If you don't need all that a digital signature provides, you can use a stamp, perhaps a dynamic one, to add your seal. You can then flatten the page to convert the stamp annotation to regular page contents, preventing a user from altering it.

How do I sign my VB / VS 2010 based shared COM add-in for Excel so it loads when the user has checked "Require application add-ins to be signed by a trusted publisher"?

My COM add-in is developed using VS 2010 and VB. It's a shared COM add-in (not VSTO) and it works with Excel 2007 - 2013. My installer is signed with a code signing certificate but it would appear that my add-in's .dll should also be signed if the user has
checked the "Require application add-ins to be signed by a trusted publisher" option.
The "Sign the assembly" option is checked in my add-in's VB -> My Project -> Signing. I have a .snk file selected which I seem to recall generating 6 or 7 years ago when I ported the COM add-in from VB6 to .NET.
I have an up-to-date Comodo code signing certificate (a pfx file called MyCompanyCodeSigningCertificatePrivateKey.pfx) which I purchased to use with the installer and was wondering if and how I could use this.
I tried selecting my pfx file in the My Project -> Signing -> "Choose a strong name key file" dialog. It made a copy of the pfx file in my project folder but when I tried to build the project, I got the following error:
Error 1 Cannot import the following key file: MyCompanyCodeSigningCertificatePrivateKey.pfx. The key file may be password protected. To correct this, try to import the certificate again or manually install the certificate to the Strong Name CSP with the
following key container name: VS_KEY_C0B6F251F0FB6016
After a little research, I found out I might be able to use signtool to sign the dll in a post-build step.
I added the following command to the post-build event, before the command I use to regasm the assembly.
"path to signtool\signtool" sign /f "MyCompanyCodeSigningCertificatePrivateKey.pfx" /p "xxxx" /v "$(TargetPath)"
When I built the project, the dll appeared to get signed (the output window showed a bunch of confirming text as well as "Successfully signed: c:\MyAddIn\bin\Release\MyAddIn.dll") but the next step in the post-build (regasm myaddin.dll /codebase)
issued a warning RA0000 (see below) but reported "Types registered successfully".
Here's the message I get from regasm, even though the output window says the dll was sucessfully signed:
RegAsm : warning RA0000: Registering an unsigned assembly with /codebase can cause your assembly to interfere with other applications that may be installed on the same computer. The /codebase switch is intended to be used only with signed assemblies. Please give your assembly a strong name and re-register it.
Types registered successfully
I'm not using a shim if that makes a difference.

I need to digital sign a document using Acrobat Reader. Is it possibile?

I am an IT Manager for a little city in northern italy.
I have almost 50 clients with smart cards enabled for what concerns digital signage.
I use flawlessy the software of the firm who provides the smart card. (infocamere.it).
This uses sha256 crypt, no problems about it.
The problem I have is:
The final file is a "p7m" envelope.
I would prefer to use a "pdf" envelope. One only file.

I have also a couple of Acrobat Standard.
I can "pdf-sign" with Acrobat Standard 9.

You can sign a PDF using Adobe Reader 9 or X, but the document must be "Reader Extended" to enable this functionality, This can be done using ADEP\LiveCycle Reader Extensions (server product) or Acrobat Professional 9 (Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader) or Acrobat X Professional (File > Save As > Reader extended PDF)

Digitally Signing and Encrypting Email

I have an iPhone 3GS and I cannot find any setting or application that allows me to import a root certificate onto the phone to digitally sign or encrypt outgoing email.
Does iPhone support this?

I installed my digital certs by just emailing them to myself then clicking the attachment. Additionally, you can use the new Enterprise Configuration utility to push these out.
I however, have not been able to figure out how to digitally sign or encrypt outgoing email. Looks like Apple and the iPhone still has a way to go with Enterprise level features.
