How to disable a Preview PDF encryption?

I password protected several preview PDF's of mine and I can open them since I set the password; but I want to remove the encryption so they are no longer password protected. . . and I can't. I also can not find any information on this in the Preview Help.
Am I forever going to have to enter my password each time I want to open these files now?
I am the administrator of this machine. I encrypted the files and don't want to rescan them all to regain non-password file access. Help!
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Intel Based Core Duo

I believe you have to open, select Copy, then do a New From Clipboard and save the new file normally. I tried the Password... option from the File menu, but it didn't allow a resave (tried both the Password for the document, and my own admin one, neither seemed to have any effect).

  • Preview - PDF - Encrypt - Add password

I am trying to be a loyal Mac user and rely on Preview for management of my secure PDF files.
(I have used Adobe Acrobat Professional -AAP- for several years; I am trying to avoid installing it on my clean SL installation.)
1.) How do I use Preview to open a PDF file created, encrypted, and password protected in AAP? (I get an error: The file “Secure.pdf” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
2.) Can someone give me simple step by step instructions to add Automator functions to Preview to allow me to encrypt and password protect individual files on a file by file basis?
All of this is very simple in AAP. Seems unnecessarily difficult in SL...
    Help?

    Well, Dr. Midnight,
There IS an answer. The "Password Protect PDF" file is a function in Automator that comes up as a Service in Preview.
For me the problem is that Automator is not very intuitive and I am too old and too lazy to learn a new programming language just to replace/repair functionality that I had with Acrobat Professional in Leopard that got broken in Snow Leopard.
Ok, - in truth - not broken, but moved and changed and made less easy to use. Preview becomes the default PDF handler in Snow Leopard. I though - ok - if Preview will do what Acrobat Professional used to do for me, I'll be a good little loyal Apple user and move from Acrobat Professional to Preview (and stop paying for Acrobat upgrades).
Then I figured out it is a PITA to learn Automator and I learned that no one on this forum seems to know (or be willing to share) simple steps to enable one Automator Service.
So I reinstalled Acrobat since I already own two licenses and since it does what I want simply and intuitively.
By the way, thanks for checking in. Nice to know I am not all alone out here ....

  • How to Disable Popup Preview of Messages?

Hi. I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way to stop Mail.app from popping up the small preview of messages in the top right corner of the screen when they're first received. I find this incredibly annoying. I've searched thoroughly for a solution to this, but all I can find is how to remove the preview pane, which is not what I need to do. I don't know anything else to call this feature besides a "preview," which makes it hard to search for a solution, since so many of the results center around the preview pane. I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I don't know why this doesn't annoy more people. When I'm working, I get tons of emails around the same time. The last thing I want is to constantly be visually interrupted when the new mail sound suffices. Either way, thanks for the help.

  • How to disable Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader in Safari

How do I disable Adobe Acrobat Reader to prevent Safari from using it to open PDFs? I have Safari 7.0.5, OS X v10.9.4. FYI, there is nothing in my User> HD> Library> Internet Plugins folder. And I've already right clicked on a PDF in Finder and selected the option to always use Preview to open PDFs. But Safari still opens PDFs with Acrobat Reader. Thanks

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Preview PDF encryption is broken in Yosemite

I correct documents saved and distributed as PDF's. They contain personal information and have to be encrypted. In Maverick, and using preview, i could always print to pdf, choose to encrypt and assign a password. Then I could email the document. Now preview will not encrypt. He help command returned instructions to use the "export" command and then choose encrypt. The check box to activate encryption slightly darkens but does not √. Then saving the document does not produce a protected document.
This has been going on for some time and I had hoped todays update would correct this but it has not. Anyone have any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How to disable Print Preview function in the Portal

    Hi,
I'm running the transaction ME23N through SAP Portal.
The option print view is working. How do I disable this?
    Regards,
    Sérgio Salomã

I am not familiar with the printout method. You can preview in your web browswer if you create an HTML report and save this to file. You can then view the html in your browser to preview and later use the browser to print. Goto the following page and search for activex internet explorer to find examples on incorperating the browser into your VI.

When I add an account that user is added to the list of enabled users when first booting a disk protected with Filevault2. I only want the master password to unlock disk encryption. I don't want to list admin or standard accounts. Is this possible?

This sounds like two different questions:
    1. I only want the master password to unlock disk encryption.
This isn't possible to my knowledge.
    2. I don't want the EFI bootloader to list all accounts upon first powering up the machine
Despite many customers' pleas, Apple has not changed the 'list all usernames' feature on first boot... however, waking from sleep, logging out or fast user switching to honor this request (when set in System Preferences).  There are several discussion forums previously attempting to solve this issue, but no concrete solution yet.

  • How to disable Display PDF in Browser in Adobe Reader XI?

I am having troubles with opening a report in PDF form from a web browser, and I'm trying to figure out how to disable opening a PDF in a browser in Reader XI.  I tried disabling "Open in Read Mode" and "Allow Fast Web View" both individually and seperately, and none of those combinations did the trick.
    Any suggestions/help are appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello Lloyd6770
Try these steps.  ( I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Internet Explorer 9,  and Adobe XI )
    1. Open Adobe XI
    2. Click Edit
    3. Click Accessibility
    4. Click Setup Assistant
    5. Click top radio button 'Set Options for Screen Readers'
    6. Click Next
    7. Do not change options on Screen 2 of 4, Click Next
    8. Do not change options on Screen 3 of 4, Click Next
    9. On screen 4 of 4, remove the check mark on ' Display PDF documents in the web browser '
NOTE: I checked Internet Explorer 9 / Tools / Manage add-ons and Adobe PDF Link Helper is still enabled in Internet Explorer 9.
PDF's will open in Adobe XI as you preferred and not in your brower.
    Cheers!
