  • Disable Apple Remote On Windows 7?

I am running Windows 7 on my iMac and installed the driver for the Apple Remote. Now whenever I use any type of remote in my room, it wakes the computer up from sleeping. How can I disable the remote function from my Windows 7 partition to avoid other remotes from waking up my PC? Apple really needs to have a solid update for Windows 7 64bit.
    Thanks in advanced.

I think you will find that if the Service: "Human Interface Device Access"
is disabled, the remote will not work. Hopefully there are no other HIDs
that you need to have service started for.
This works for me with an old HP remote that was for PC MCE and is good for iTunes, Media Player etc.
The only problem I can't avoid is a neon lamp in the room when turned off
kills my TV App. if it is running.

Just stop using it and remove any data from your profile that you don't want there. You can't actually remove your account or your old posts from the server.
If you have registered to have notification emails sent to you, click 'My Stuff' at top right, select 'Preferences' , then in the next page select the 'Email Notification Preferences' tab and click all the 'No' radio buttons. Then click 'Save'.
If you already have notifications set on some threads you will still get emails from them. Click on your username at the top, then under 'Actions' in the right sidebar, select "'Manage email notifications.' This will show the threads you've set up notifications on in the past. Select those you want to stop and click the 'Remove Selected Notifications' button at bottom.
Best regards and hope this helps.  If I don't have the answer someone else does

  • Original iMac G5 now running Leopard - How to add Apple Remote?

I'd like to use my iMac G5 to run Front Row and play music and movies through my HDTV. I'm already connected to the TV, so that's not an issue.
How do I add an Apple Remote to this, for use with Front Row? I know I can use the wireless keyboard to control it, but the WAF (wife acceptance factor) for that solution is low. All the new Macs have built in IR, but not this first gen model, so I'm not sure how to do this. (I think I could add a third party remote like the KeySpan, but I'd rather use the Apple Remote if possible.)
(I did see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7384584 , but it doesn't exactly address my wish for the Apple Remote)
While we're on the topic, my HDTV is being used as a second monitor. Works well for displaying videos and such in iTunes and from various other sources. How does this work with FrontRow, though? (The displays are NOT mirrored.) Does it show on both screens, or is there a way to force it to show on one display or the other?

How does this work with FrontRow, though?
Front Row will only display on the "main" monitor. That is, the monitor that's showing the Dock and menubar. You will probably need to use the Displays System Preferences to change the main display to the HDTV.

  • How to configure apple remote desktop to work on 3g instead of wifi

    Hello,
Can ARD be used with 3g to access my iMac from my macbook?
If it can be done, could someone please help with info on how to do this or set it up?
    Thanks a lot..

when you use ARD at home can it wake the iMac from sleep?
What do you have the DLINK DIR-615 plugged into? (dsl modem, cable modem, extra)
So there are a couple ways to connect to a computer behind a router such as the dlink. One option is you configure the iMac to be the DMZ. The nice thing about this is you don't have to configure any ports. the bad thing about this, is any service your hosting on the mac is internet excess-able. the 2nd option is to configure specific ports on your router to be sent to the iMac. This give you more control over what services are access-able on the iMac over the internet; but it's also more work to setup.
Here is the manual for DLINK DIR-615,
page 32 explains how to setup a DMZ.
pages 27 and 28 explains how to setup "port forwarding."
Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products. if you chose the port forwarding, you'll probable need to use this document to figure out what ports you need to open. Here are some of the ports you would probable need to open. there would probable be other ports as well.
    3031
    TCP/UDP
    Remote AppleEvents
    eppc
    Program Linking, Remote Apple Events
    3283
    TCP/UDP
    Net Assistant
    net-assistant
Apple Remote Desktop 2.0 or later (Reporting feature)
    5900
    TCP
    Virtual Network Computing (VNC)
    (Unregistered Use)
    vnc-server
Apple Remote Desktop 2.0 or later (Observe/Control feature)
Screen Sharing (Mac OS X 10.5 or later)
    5988
    TCP
    WBEM HTTP
    wbem-http
Apple Remote Desktop 2.x (see http://www.dmtf.org/about/faq/wbem)
I'm not sure if the time capsule will be able to wake the computer over the internet; because it's not the router. the DLINK is.
Keep in mind, that even if you do configure your mac to be reach-able over the internet. Most internet connections change IP address. That's call DHCP. in short it's like trying to reach some one who hangs around different pay phones, but doesn't have a cell phone. In short, you can't really reliably get ahold of such a person.
If you call your internet provider they can tell you if your internet connection is static or DHCP.
If it is, there are things you can setup to bridge the gap between static and DHCP. That's called dynamic DNS, But ones you look at the cost of such a service; your probable going to find logmein cheaper, and an easier to configure solution. Because you don't have to mess around with your router, or configure port forwarding, or mess around with dynamic DNS.
You might even find out to run dynamic DNS your going to have to have your iMac always turn on any way. It's not that hard to configure your imac to be on, but have the screen off.
    good luck

  • How to setup Apple remote on my Mac Pro

Hi I just received my Apple Remote to use with my Mac Pro. How do I get it to work? Do I have to pair the remote with the Mac Pro? Are there specific programs that will only work with the Apple Remote? I tried Itunes and nothing happened, Pressing button's doesn't seem to do anything. Any help is greatly appreciated

No, the mac pro is the only mac that doesn't currently support the apple remote as is. If you have a ipod touch or iphone, you can use the "remote" app from apple to use your touch or iphone as a remote over wifi. I've tried it before, it works great~ Only tried in itunes though, not sure if front row works.

  • How to Disable Apple Mail?

I do not want to use or set up Apple Mail, but it continues to pop up asking me to set it up. I have no intentions of doing that. How can I disable it? I have tried the following:
    1. Setting it up and disabling it --> it screwed up my system
    2. I tried to remove only the mail ---> It messed up my system and asks where the mail is in pop ups.
    3. I've tried Google notifier and setting that as my default --> Doesn't work
    4. I've checked the preferences, accounts, login items ----> Mail is not listed
    HELP!
    <Edited by Host>

I finally figured out why the mail kep't on popping up. The mail does not normally behave this way. However, my calendar was inheriting from my Google calendar and they had alerts. These alerts kept pushing their messages to Apple Mail and thus it kept popping up. After I disabled that it has stopped annoying me. I tried every other imaginable thing. I hope this helps those who have a similar malady with their Apple Mail.

  • How to disable Apple Mail 2 cache forever?

    Hello,
I really need to disable cache for Apple Mail 2 application without program restarting. Our designers make a greeting cards and they need to test it with Apple Mail application. The cards have remote pictures inside body and those pictures is different every time. It works fine with Apple Mail 3 under leopard and with Apple Mail 2 of latest minor version.
I got no any response with suggestion from Apple Support.
Can somebody help me with my problem?
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Victor.

    Hello,
I had tried the method with permission setup for Apple Mail Cache folder (I made it as 700) and I got a result. The Apple Mail 2 doesn't display the images from cache, but I've got another problem. Some images in specific HTML message body still appear. I don't know why. The message body does have a header, central content image and footer. The central image doesn't appear but images in header and footer always appears despite the fact that Apple Mail option Show Remote Images is disable and message is Junk.
    Odd!
Could somebody tell me whats wrong?
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Victor.

  • How to disable Apple Maps from using toll roads

I do not want Apple Maps to even attempt to use Toll Roads or even give them as potential options.  Is there a way to disable this?

If your route has a toll road Google Maps will show an orange triangle with an exclamation (at least in the UK). You can pick another route but route editing is limited. You can also select the route options to disable toll roads on that journey.
Apple Maps states 'This route requires tolls' when you view it but in typical Apple fashion there is no settings to disable toll roads, you should be able to pick another route if one is possible.

  • How to disable Apple Mail Copy message

After an unsuccessful search for an Apple Mail forum, I will post this here (I miss the old forums--so easy to use):
I am almost always accidently using "Copy Message" when trying to move a message from my Inbox to a folder. This function is completely useless to me. Is there a way to disable it or remove it from the Message menu?

    No.
Why don't you simply drag the message to the folder?

  • How to disable Apple ID/iCloud account access to file sharing on two Macs set up using one Apple ID account?

I've two Macs set up with my Apple ID. Now one of them is using other Apple ID but I can still access all it's files via file share using my old Apple ID the computer has be set up with. Is there a way to disable that "feature"? Thing to mention is that the other Apple ID is used in Store and in the accounts.

OK found the answer in anothe discussion thread. On iPad, delete existing account by going to settings-iCloud-and tap red delete account bar. Sign in with the Apple id you want to use. This worked for me this time. Even though when I first tried to set up the iCloud account, I got error messages and thus was forced into creating the new id.
    Anyhow, success.

  • How to disable Apple Maps?

I can't believe that this hasn't been a topic before. Very happy with apple in general, but every now and then I will click on a link to open directions and it goes to Apple Maps. I don't care for the program personally, and legally should be able to change this setting. I can not figure it out. Help would be appreciated.

No, default apps cannot be changed, nor is there any legal requirement for Apple to allow this. Some third party apps do allow for browser and app default settings, but not iOS itself. You can however, tap and hold on a link, copy it, then open in another mapping app.

  • How to disable the remote on live 5.1 exter

Can someone please help. I know this is an unusual request but I want to turn off the remote function. The reason is that there is 2 computers near each other and I have bought 2 li've external units, but only want to control one of them with the remote. When I use the remote, it controls both computers. I tried changing the remote type and this stopped it working but the made the unit lose it's mute function from the top wheel of the unit (also stops the blue light flashing when in mute), and in fact once pressed, the sound is off until the headphones are disconnected and re-connected so this option is unsuitable as the mute function is very much wanted. Can anyone help with this ?I had thought that I could not install the remote function at install time (if this is an option), but will this make the mute function work improperly again.Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Lyrics are not supported in the Music app in either iOS 5.1.1 or 6, so you will need to find a third-party music app in the store that does support lyrics
