How to disable Bluetooth Auto-Connect

Hello Everybody
I have a JBL Micro-Wireless Bluetooth enabled speaker.
My Laptop model is Lenovo Thinkpad X220 running Windows 7.
My laptop has Broadcom Bluetooth stack.
Now, the problem is, whenever i turn on the speaker, my laptop connects to it immediately.
But, It just shows as connected with JBL Micro-Wireless in Bluetooth Device Control
The Bluetooth Hands free audio in Available Playback Devices be kept disconnected and i won't be able to connect to it.
I won't be able to also disconnect the Bluetooth speaker in Bluetooth Device Control.
I found that, Either if i disable the Thinkpad Bluetooth 3.0 device in device manager and enable it back or Uptick and Tick Audo Sink service in JBL Micro-Wireless properties dialog box in Sound, i can connect to the speaker manually and it starts working
just fine and i can disconnect the speaker also any number times.
You can blame the Broadcom Bluetooth Drive Stack for this issue, but i have tried using the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack too.
You can now blame my JBL Micro-Wireless speakers for this issue, but, i don't have any problems with any other audio source.
So, you have to give solution to disable Auto-Connect for my Bluetooth Speaker from my Laptop.
My Bluetooth speaker don't have any interface to disable auto-connect.
I have tried stopping both the Bluetooth Services in Windows Services to disable Auto-Connection, but it didn't help.

Untill now, there is no effective method in Windows to disable Bluetooth device connect automaticlly. Here is another workaround method maybe helpful.
That's using net stop/start service command to disable Bluetooth service.
Firstly, you can access Services by typing services.msc
command in RUN. Then choose Bluetooth service and change its startup type to
Manual.
Next time when you need using Bluetooth, just run net start bthserv in Command Prompt with administrator.
The bluetooth should be work normally.
When you didn't want to use it, just run net stop bthserv command to stop it.

How to disable yum auto-update in OL6

Hello,
What is the correct procedure to disable yum auto-updates?
The "yum-updatesd" daemon that existed in OL 5 does no longer exist in OL 6.
I found out that the "PackageKit Update Applet" seems to be responsible for running the auto-update. It can be enabled or disabled in the new Preferences/Startup Applications control panel. There is also the "gpk-prefs" control panel to set the update interval to "never". However, both control panels work on a per-user/login basis and cannot be used to disable yum auto-update system-wide.
Finally I found /etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf, which has a DefaultBackend parameter, but I don't know what I should put there.
Is there here a way, to disable the yum auto-update system-wide without uninstalling PackageKit?
I already checked the documentation at http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Deployment_Guide/ch-PackageKit.html but it was not helpful.

DefaultBackend=yum -> DefaultBackend=nobackend
</pre>
It requires a re-login of your Gnome X session to take affect.
Then Administration/Software update does no longer scan for updates, and apparently no longer lock yum at the system level. At least the problem seems to be fixed globally that way.
I will mark this question as answered, but any ideas are still welcome.

Allow bluetooth auto connections?

Since upgrading to an iPhone 4 (4.2.1) the hands free system in my 2006 Land Rover LR3 cannot automatically connect to the phone. I can pair the two and then place and receive calls as expected, but after I leave the car, I have to manually connect the phone to the car system again (selecting the car's hands free in the bluetooth device list.) I've also noticed that if I bring up the bluetooth device list on the phone, where it's discoverable, before I unlock the car I'll get prompted for the bluetooth PIN. It seems like the iPhone is not allowing itself to be found or remembering the PIN for the hands free. I've tried everything between "forget this device" in the bluetooth menu to a full restore of the phone. The auto connection used to work fine with my iPhone 3 with 3.whatever software version. I've also contacted the car manufacturer and they've said it's been tested and compatible with iPhone 4. Any ideas where to go next?

Anyone out there have an idea on what I can do to solve this problem?

Disable bluetooth "Device Connected" and "Device Disconnected" notification

Hi there.
Is there a way to stop the bluetooth "device connected" and "device disconnected" notification from appearing in the middle of the screen?
Logically this notification should be optional and disabled out of the box just like other hardware notifications (network, printer, hard disk etc..).

I was trying to download my favorite programs and iOS 7, but first I have to stop software auto update, how will I do this?

How to disable the auto eject of a failing HD

My kids HD just started to fail. Apple replaced it this AM, however my kid's TM backup is about 5 months old. I am trying to recover the data from the old disk.
She put the old disk into an enclosure and connected it to her MBP. As I try to copy as much of the drive as possible it gets an error, ejects, then reconnects and give an annoying message that I didn’t eject properly. This is making it very difficult to get all the data off.
I figured if I mounted read-only that it’d stop doing that, but it does not. I’ve run fsck, etc…
All I need is for this stupid machine to log errors and move on just like single user mode. However, I cannot use single user mode because I am 2000 miles away from the machine. And using Facetime to remote control my kid has pushed me to the edge. There has to be a way to make OSX as “unfriendly” as Linux. OSX needs a “pro” mode.
So, I ask again. How do I stop OSX from auto ejecting a disk when it errors?

It sounds like your computer is becoming unresponsive whenever you plug in any USB device that has or takes photos, because iPhoto launches automatically and takes a while to open. You can change this preference in iPhoto itself to open either iPhoto, Image Capture, or no application at all when you connect a device:
iPhoto '11: Change what happens when you connect a camera to your computer
To choose the application that opens:
Make sure no cameras are connected to your computer.
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click General.
Choose an option from the “Connecting camera opens” pop-up menu.
The title of the article mentions iPhoto '11 but the same steps hold true for iPhoto 2013.

Until the last week, I have been successfully using http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0 to disable Google's insistence on forcing users' searches to use the infuriating auto-complete and Instant Search functions (the option to disable the former was removed by Google from Preferences while the latter doesn't retain the disabling in Preferences).
However, Google now seems to have beaten my first choice workaround.
Before I switch to one last possible workaround, I wondered if Firefox users knew of any others?

Those two do not show suggestions, but also do not have autocomplete=off in case you are remembering form data

Hi, I had the same problem recently--trying to disable Skype's automatic start when I first log in to Windows 8.1--and this is what worked for me:
1) Bring up the "Task Manager" window by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc all at the same time. (Or press Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time then choose the "Task Manager" menu link.)
2) Once the "Task Manager" window comes up, you'll see several tabs (Processes, Performance,...Details, Services) just one row below the top drop-down menu bar (File; Options; View).
3) One of those tabs (on my version of Windows 8.1 it's the fourth tab from the left) reads "Start Up"
4) Once you open the "Start Up" tab window, you'll see a list of installed programs that have either been "Enabled" or "Disabled" in terms of booting up when you first turn on your computer.
5) Scroll down until you see "Skype" then highlight it with your cursor. If the line shows that this program is "Enabled" during start up (under the column "status"), then a button on the lower right of the window should read "disable." Click on it and you will see the "status" of Skype change to "Disabled."
The change should take effect for your next reboot. While your there, you can also disable any other (non-essential) programs to help speed up your computer's boot up process. Be careful what you disable, though, as some programs might be necessary for your computer's day-to-day functions!

How to have CR auto connect to DB?

I have an Advantage DB (Sybase) and when I open Crystal Reports - it asks to connect to the database. I then have to go thru the DB setup to add the login name/pwd then the database .add file. CR shows the connection and works fine until I close it. When I reopen - I need to go thru all that again.
Is there a way to get the DB info to stick so the user does not have to enter this in every time?

Create a new report and use the database wizard, once connected check on the option to use Trusted Authentication. If your DB can use this feature then it should not prompt anyone who has rights to the database. If it' snot an option then no work around. Dangerous saving passwords in the report, anyone could make changes and have full rights to all data.

How to disable an auto link

I am placing a box of text code for embedding a link to my site, and iWeb automatically creates a link where there is anything starting with "http://..." . I don't want a link there, I just want the text there for people to copy and paste to their website or blog. I cannot seem to find a way to disable the hyperlink.
I can't seem to do it in "inspector" or anywhere that I can find in the menu bar. Any ideas?
(I looked around in the forums but others seem to only have the opposite problem, LOL)

How to disable iHeartRadio Auto-Start on an iPhone 4s/iOS7?

Hello - I have a really annoying problem. It apparently has consistently happened through various iOS upgrades (see also Podcasts and this article) . Not sure why it hasn't been resolved.
If the iHeartRadio app is open, but I am not listening to it and I take a voice call or use the Voice-to-Text recognition, iHeartRadio will automatically start playing afterwards. This typically happens when headphones or a speaker (dock) are plugged in. However, it has also happened with just the phone by itself.
It is really annoying and does not seem to serve a purpose. The only workaround I have discovered is 'killing' iHeartRadio so it literally cannot restart.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? It seems like a bug to me.

I have updated all apps and have done the back up/restore from iTunes to no avail. I am not familiar with voice command/control in iheartradio.
Per my earlier post, this has been an issue for Apple before, in previous iOS iterations (in particular, Podcasts).
I have searched high and low for an answer which is why I posted here. I will update if I hear from iheartradio. I would be willing to be bed they say it's an Apple issue...

On switching to another tab in firefox, it refreshes automatically! How to disable this auto refresh as it interrupts work? Help!

If I have multiple tabs open at a time, say tab 1,2,3, and I happen to switch to see the tab 2 from the current tab 1, the Page on the tab 2 Refreshes/Reloads itself automatically!! This interrupts the work at hand! Is it possible to prevent this? What is causing this problem?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
