How to disable "bonjour"

Everytime I start up iChat, Bonjour tries to log in. Whenever I log into iChat for the first time Bonjour also tries to log in, even if I don't have the the "use Bonjour Instant Messanging" or "When iChat Opens, Automatically Log In" boxes checked.

I deleted the "com.apple.ichat.plist" and it still didn't work, ...Did you Log out and stop iChat from running (no small black triangle adjacent to the iChat iCon in your Dock) BEFORE you deleted the .plist?
Did you then restart and check to see whether iChat works?
Did you try launching iChat from the Dock (if you keep iChat's iCon in your Dock) or from the icon in the Finder > Go > Applications folder?
<hr> ... it only happpens at the one time or everytime I resart the computer.Are you sure you are logged out of all connections and that iChat is not running (no small black triangle adjacent to the iChat iCon in your Dock) ?
Perhaps you have only closed all iChat windows? If that is the case, you may find some useful information on iChat actions and terminology in iChat status after quit?

I'm trying to disable the Bonjour service advertising in Yosemite / Mac OS X 10.10.
Unfortunately the instructions in OS X: How to disable Bonjour service advertising without disabling DNS no longer apply, since Yosemite no longer has /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
I did some digging around and there's someone who made a script to disable it in various Mac OS versions, including supposedly Yosemite: https://github.com/MacMiniVault/Mac-Scripts/blob/master/disablebonjour/disablebo njour-README.md
I had a look at the script to find out what it does and manually inserted "--no-multicast" as string under Program Arguments in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
Doing so, will mess up the wi-fi. Networks only show when wi-fi is off, and turning it on makes it seem like it's off and I'm never able to connect until I undo the changes described above.
Wondering if:
1) The result from changes above is expected or is it a bug?
2) If Apple can update OS X: How to disable Bonjour service advertising without disabling DNS to include instructions for Yosemite.
3) Did anyone here manage to disable Bonjour service advertising in Yosemite without introducing any new issues?

does anyone know how to disable bonjour as i have just installed the latest version of itunes and now i am unable to stream music, i understand this may be down to a conflict between itunes, any help

at the moment, we've just got workarounds.
reinstall BonJour and do your printer discovery.
once you've got that organised, there's a couple of options.
1. if you use Bonjour way more than Airtunes
when you want to listen to airtunes, use the instructions in my post earlier in the thread to temporarily close the BonJour Service.
2. if you use Airtunes way more than BonJour
try using MSCONFIG to disable loading of the BonJour Service on Startup. (this procedure involves a restart of the PC.)
go "Start > Run", type MSCONFIG and hit enter.
click on the "Services" tab.
find the BonJour Service and uncheck it. hit OK.
restart the PC when asked to do so.
BonJour Service will no longer load on startup. to activate the service on those occasions when you need it, head back into the Services screen in your Computer Management and restart the BonJour Service.

Snow Leopard and Juniper Network Connect/How to temporarily disable Bonjour

Hi All,
I have encountered a problem with Juniper Network Connect running on my MacBook Air. I can connect successfully to my company's VPN but on my MacBook Air Junipers Network Connect started to dis- and reconnect in changing time intervals.
After some googling I am pretty sure that it has something to do with the Bonjour service changing the routing tables. I wanted to confirm this and activated "Back to my mac" on my MacBook Pro which up to now did not had any problems connecting to my company's VPN. Now it has the same issues.
My question is whether there is any way to temporarily disable Bonjour, ideally via Apple script. Up to now the only solutions I found were to either
- disable mDNSResponder which would also prevent accessing any websites or
- disable multicast advertisements (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789?viewlocale=en_US)
The latter approach includes editing a properties file and restarting the mac, thus would be less than ideal for just quickly dis- and enabling bonjour. Furthermore I am not quite sure whether this really solves the problem of updating the routing table.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.

If you are using an Airport or Airport Express base station: go to Utilities>Airport Utility. When it's found the Airport, click on 'Manual Setup'. In the next pane, click on the 'Wireless' tab; when that pane opens click on 'Wireless Network Options...'. Check 'Create a closed network'.
If you are using another manufacturer's wireless router you will need to look at their instructions, but the principle is the same - it may say something like 'Hide SSD'.

My iTunes won't run unless I disable Bonjour - will my iPod still sync?

Not sure if this is the right place to post - and completely non-IT-savvy so i'm pre-apologizing.
Recently had the common issue of my itunes not running once I updated to itunes 10. I disabled Bonjour as reccommended and now I can launch itunes. But I'm wondering if that will have any affect on how itunes runs and particuarly how iphones/ipods sync. Will I still be able to sync iproducts normally?
And if not, is there any other solution to the launching of iTunes problem?

The only sign that its had any activity was last night when I tried to shut down my computer I got a "Not responding" window about itunes store...
Hmmm. with that one, perhaps try the following document:

(A LSP issue in theory could affect an iTunes launch via the Bonjour Service, although the symptom isn't mentioned in the document.)

Bonjour has nothing to do with this.
Restore your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup to get rid of that garbage which removed all built-in secuirty included with iOS on your iPhone.

Disable bonjour notifications in mavericks

I have put notifications to sleep from midnight to 11:59pm as I hate their distraction. For some reason Bonjour messages pop up all the time when I am in a workspace with a shared network about other people's computers. None of us share computer resources. How can I turn off these useless irritating messages from appearing briefly in the top left of my screen.

To supplement a bit, I understand it can be dangerous to disable Bonjour as it provides DNS services, and the other computers are owned by people in other small organizations who share a common workspace network, so it's not really feasible to get them to do anything like turn off a message emitting service on all of their computers.

Does anyone know How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Preferences] -> [Display] -> [Arrangement]?
It always want to align the two screens from the top when they are lined up close together and I need them to be aligned from the bottom. Since the resolution heights are so close together (1080 & 1050) it does not allow one to align side by side from the bottom as it prioritizes top alignment.
I guess I'm looking for a script to disable this feature.

Anyone got any ideas?

The problem is as follows.
The default behaviour of Acrobat Reader (both stand alone and browser plug-in) is to allow scrolling/swiping with the mouse wheel/trackpad. This is useful when the pdf's page length is greater than the screen's own length, because you can read the pdf with no need to distract your attention from the text to the scrollbar button. However, the same scroll/swipe function turns into a usability problem when the pdf is embedded in a html page and the pdf's page length is smaller than the browser's length. In this case, the scroll/swipe turns the page, distracting your attention from the text to the unintended behaviour of the browser. What happens is that you are so used to scrolling/swiping that you did it unintentionally in the pdf's caption area. You really did not want to turn pages in the pdf. Furthermore, if the pdf takes the whole html page, being a website, the scroll/swipe function flips the website pages in ways that neither the reader nor the writer had ever intended. Hence the question. How to disable, in this case, the "turn page" event triggered by the scroll/swipe function? A JavaScript should do, but the SDK documents did not help so far...

Run the following command to take ownership of MicrosoftAccountTokenProvider.dll:
  takeown /f C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MicrosoftAccountTokenProvider.dll
Run the following command to deny the read permission of the Microsoft:

I've had this problem ever since I was at my friend's house- she has Apple TV- and my iPad connected automatically. So, I have no idea why any of the practical solutions that people think of are not options BUT, in terms of just getting it done, I did figure out a way. The key for me was getting near another Apple TV. I was out of town so I took my iPad to another friend's house who also has TV. Once I was logged onto their wireless network (the same network that their Apple TV is on-- that's how it connected in the first place), then the Airplay icon and options showed up from the bottom-draw menu and I was able to make sure that mirroring was turned off from the Apple TV section and to make sure the selection was on iPad instead. Problem solved. Now whether or not this will stay the same (rather than me having to make sure it stays at this setting everytime I link up to a network that has an Apple TV on it) I don't know. So my advice is find someone with Apple TV and connect to their network with your iPad and then change it.

If you see that pop up you enabled icloud. Whether you want or do not want now to use it irrelevant until you actually disable activation lock.
In order to do that you have to change your apple id back to do that just long enough to sign in and back out. System will ask you to verify, don't.
Just sign in on the prompt you getting and then logout. Once done, change apple id to what you have now and verify. Then decide if you want to
use icloud (who does not want to be able to track their phone if lost or stolen).

Can't use down key because it opens automator. Does any one know how to disable this short cut?

Are you talking about the Down Arrow key? To my knowledge there is no way to use that key as a shortcut for anything. But look in the Keyboard section of System Preferences and the Keyboard shortcut tab.

You are allowed to have two working installations so you do not have to disable the original if you prefer to have a backup. Otherwise, to disable you can just sign out thru the CC manager.
