How to disable cell activity but keep GPS enabled

We are cruising soon and I want to make sure I don't get any unexpected charges for traveling out of the US. However, I want to take pictures and will want the GPS function to work. Will the Airplane setting allow for this?

Turning off data roaming is a MUST unless you pay for their global roaming data for a hefty price...honestly...I'm not sure if the photo tagging via the phones GPS will still work if airplane mode is on...
If airplane mode is off and you have data roaming off then you should not have a big bill...just make sure to use WIFI only...
Keep in mind that although I did not agree with nor understand this explanation from AT&T when I traveled to Jamaica for my Honeymoon....When there and the phone was on...if the phone rang and i DID NOT answer it they still charged me for the incoming call...
I fought this and the charges were removed but they showed up...horrible!!
That said if data roaming is off and airplane mode off then your GPS may not tag your photos...you'll have to try it in the US first and play with the settings and then see if iPhoto shows the tag...

When you connect that iPad to iTUnes, go to the summary page and scroll down, there should be a box saying 'automatically update' or something to that effect. De select that.
With automatically update on, what you buy on one goes onto the other. but with that box off you can choose.
On the iPad itself, it's under
    Settings
    iTUnes and App Stores
and then you can choose what you want automatically updated between the two devices.

How do you deleter duplicates but keep the originals?

    Mark,
Since you are having a problem that is not directly related to the original (and old) post (and I say that because  this thread seems to answer the OP's question, but not yours), it woud be better to ask in a new thread.  New threads have a better chance of getting answered, and you can give credit to good answers of your own questions.  I..e., if someone else answers your question in this thread, you cannot give them credit.
When you pose your new question, it might be good to include a screen shot and a better description of how you have deduced that two projects are identical, along with what you have done to try to find them and where exactly you have looked.

  • How do disable the active applications at start up

If I forget to disable the active aps in the dock, when I restart my Mac it takes a longer time to start up. How do I disable that feature?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • In AdvancedDataGrid - how can I stop sorting but keep order?

I've seen this question a few times on the web and so far no one has come up with a workable solution.
I'm using the sorting in ADG with an XMLListCollection bound as a dataprovider.  The user's are not happy because if the data changes in the column that's being sorted, the list resorts.  How can I remove the dynamic sorting but keep the order of the sort.  We want it to work like Excel where you do a sort but when you change the data it doesn't reorder the list.  What's the best, easiest way to do this?  My guess would be that I want to make a copy of the XMLListCollection but somehow save it in sorted order, then swap the copy in for the other XMLListCollection.  Not sure how to do that.  Thanks for any help.

  • How to delete itunes songs but keep music on ipod when connected

This may sound like a strange request but can I delete all my music off itunes but keep the songs on my ipod shuffle when I connect it to itunes to load on new music?
I use sony sonicstage as my main music holding library as I have a sony large storage mp3 player but use my shuffle as a exercise music player.
    Many thanks

*can I delete all my music off itunes but keep the songs on my ipod shuffle when I connect it to itunes to load on new music?*
No you can't. The shuffle doesn't have the same full manual management setting that other iPods have, you have to have the songs in iTunes or they'll be removed from the iPod.

I have been trying so hard to try and get my head round this since your last comment so what I think I know is with my Nikon d80 having 3:2 aspect ratio pictures that I wanted printed can only be the sizes you mentioned above which is fine as the pictures I got printed were 9x6" but it's from now I'm still bit lost when I use the crop tool and pre set the size to 9x6" with a resolution of 240 and crop out all the bits I don't want it comes back from printers stretched so i'm still lost as I don't know the  point where I'm doing something that causes the stretching? thank you for your patience
Lets separate this into topics  Aspect Ratio,  resolution and size ... etc
Aspect  Ratio is just the ratio of an image's two sides.    Your camera captures an image with a 3:2 Aspect Ratio.   If you want to print the whole image your camera captures it can be printed and image size that has sides the have a 3:2 ratio without distorting the image.
    Images are re-sized two ways:
One way is to keep the pixels your camera captures and print them at different resolutions. Resolution is nothing more then pixel size.  Pixels have no size till there is a resolution set. Pixels themselves may have a aspect ratio themselves.  These days most devices use square pixel.  Some video standards use non square pixels. So if you have square pixels and an image with 1800px by 1200px and set the resolution to 300DPI the print size will be 6" by 4"  if you set the  to 200DPI the print size will be 9" by 6".  Its simple math. 300DPI means pixels are 1/300"x1/300" there are 90,000px/inch 200DPI 1/200"x1/200" 40,000px/inch  100DPI 1/100"x1/100" 10,000. Note how quickly the pixel count climes as resolution increase doubling an image resolution requires four times as many pixels not two timas as many.
The other way is to create a new image using the pixels you camera captures.  Your Camera pixels are resampled(interpolated) into a totally new image not a single camera captured pixel remains intact the new image has a different numbers of pixels it a different image.  There are different interpolation methods some work better then others depending on image content and the direction of the re-size.  Any time you resample an image you loose some image quality.  The pixels are generated they are not captured using optics and a sensor.
Normally I do not resample when printing I just set the DPI so the image prints the size I want.  In the Image size Dialog I un-check resample and the set the print width or height I want to print.  Photoshop will calculate the DPI and set the other side size.    If you crop without setting a DPI resolution in the crop tool the crop tool will not resample the crop to a particular DPI it should just set the appropriate DPI.
I resample image for the web Cameras capture more pixels then can be display by displays.  So in the image size dialog I check resample and constrain the width and height to the image current aspect ratio then I set the number of pixels I want the width or height to be. Photoshop will calculate the number of pixels the other side will be. The DPI is meaningless for web images for Web images are displayed on screens at the resolution a displays has.  Your images will display large on a large Low DPI resolution HDTV screen and small on a high resolution cell phone display.
If you want to print you image a size that does not have a 3:2 aspect ratio without distortion  you need to crop you image to the aspect ratio you want to print at.  You need to discard part of your image.  The Crop Tool does not distort it discards part of you image.  It may or may not resample the crop selected.  I do not use the crop tool but if I did I would not use it to resample the crop I would not set in a DPI resolution in the crop tool.
Photoshop can also resize an image from one aspect ratio to and other aspect ratio a non constrained resize.  The resulting image will be distorted.  However Photoshop does have have a content aware re-size that tries to maintain recognizable objects perspective during the distortion process.  This process can also be aided by user masking.
    Cropping:
A 3:2 aspect ratio image can in theory be cropped to an infinite number of smaller images that have any aspect ratios including an infinite number of images that have a 3:2 aspect ratio.  All crops can be resampled to a particular DPI resolution. However digital pixels can not be sliced up so there are a finite numbers of crops you can hack form a digital image

  • How to cancel & disconnect housephone but keep int...

    Hello all,
I recieved a bill a few days ago informing me that I was being charged £2 for underuse of my answereing service and £2 for underuse of my calling time on my housephone on top of my monthly bill.
This is a disgusting money making scheme and I refuse to be charged money for NOT using my phone.
I wish to have my housephone immedietly disconnected but I understand that my O2 internet also used the BT line so I would like to know how I can disconnect my housephone but still keep my internet access.
I do not wish to give any further reason, nor am I going to change my mind so a simple step by step solution to my problem is all I require.
    Thank you.

    Hi Krenzathal,
This is a customer to customer forum so we can only advise, but not speak on behalf of BT. We also can't make arrangements for disconnecting your phone - you need to contact BT direcftly to do that.
I think the 'under use' charges are standard charges for a couple of the services which you have signed up to on your calling plan - the requirements for these are quite clearly spelled out if you look at your MYBT page. Typically you need to make 2 qualifying calls during each billing cycle to avoid these charges, or if you don't want the services you can (I think) just disable them.
As to your phone line - you need a telephone service in order to have broadband from any provider (possibly not for Virgin). Probably the best option is for you to contact O2 and get them to arrange to take over the line from BT - if you do it any other way you'll possibly suffer some internet disconnections.
I think that if you just cancel the line from BT then you'll end up paying for the O2 broadband but not able to use it as there won't be a phone service to transmit it on.
No one here is going to ask you to give further reasons or change your mind because, as BTcustomers, we are entirely unaffected by your decisions. However, if you do decide to cancel your BT line please be aware that if you are still within your contract period then you will have to buy your way out of it - also, if you refuse to pay for charges which are clearly spelled out on your billing plan then BT can (in theory) chase you to court and register a bad debt - not sure if it's worth it for £4.
Good luck with your phone line change.

  • How to not show detail but keep aggregated calculation results.

    Hi,
I have some calculations performed through variables. For some reason, to keep the correct calculation displayed i can only do it by displaying the detail data I'm doing the calculations with. Is there anyway around this? I've attached an attachment giving a little more explanation of what i have and what i need .
    thanks
    any help would be appreciated

    Hi,
Please follow below steps and let me know how it works
    1. Right click on Centre column Init ID Rpt> hide > hide dimension (if you are not able to hide then make the column as small as possible).
    2. Copy the formula of the left most in to the footer, so that the footer in the last row will also show BaseL
    3. Now modify the formula of the cell containing 2.8 as = Nofilter(whtever it used to be there earlier)
    4. Now apply filter and on the Basel column and give some value which cannot be true like 9999999 etc.,
    5. Now Right click your table and uncheck the property Display table header.
    6. You will have BaseL and 2.8 as per your requirement
    Thanks,
    Tanveer.

  • IBook - MBP - how do I migrate programs, but keep some?

Here's the deal: I've had an iBook G4 for exactly two years. I've loved it for the most part, but I need to upgrade because I'm getting into higher end digital photography and graphic design, and I need the better video card. I have a friend who has offered to buy my computer and I'd like to keep as many of the programs on as possible (especially Office 2004) but I'd also like to sort of give them a "fresh start".
How can I migrate my files - mostly email, word docs, excel docs, preferences, mp3s, photo's, iCal, pages files to the MPB? I know there's a few things that don't work on the new intel macs. Does iWork '06 still work on intel?? Also, I'm guessing Office 2004 isn't Intel native yet, so is it even worth it to migrate over? I would especially like to leave the person who is buying my computer with office. The license I have for it is with my family (they bought a family pack) and I'm not sure if I have an extra license number, I'll have to try it out. But even so, if I do a clean install of OS X, won't I lose Office anyways? I don't have the install disks (in a different state...) Is there anyway to sort of clean things out on my computer? Can I create a new admin so they can at least start afresh, but leave them with office??
Any suggestions would be great. Eventually, I will buy a new version of office anyways through the company I work for, so I'm not too concerned about losing it for myself.

Start with http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1872713. As for the other stuff, first get the install disks that are out of state. Whatever you give your friend, you need to also give them the installation disks; otherwise, you need to remove it from the iBook because of licensing issues.

  • How to export iphoto library but keep thumbnails

My iPhoto '11 library is taking up 70G of much needed space on my Macbook Pro (2009), but rather than trying to add memory or buy a new laptop I'd like to move the Library off my HD. Right now it is all backed up to my external HD. However, I'd like to keep thumbprints of the photos in iPhoto if possible, so that I can see the photos on my Mac. Is this possible? If so, how can I do this?

If you try and do this with iPhoto it will complain and fail to open if the external drive is not connected.
However, this is perfectly possible with Aperture, if you want to go that way.

  • How to move photo's but keep iPhoto library intact?

    Hi,
I keep my photo's (actual files) on a NAS drive accessible through WiFi. These photo's are imported (but not copied) into an iPhoto library which resides on my laptop.
Now, on the NAS I want to move these photo's to a different directory on the NAS.
I tried moving them hoping I could change the source location in iPhoto. This does work when I change the location for each single photo. However with about 15,000 photo's this would take a long time.
I could re-import them but then I'd lose all the faces, places and such.
Does anyone know of a way to change the source location, say in the iphoto library package?
    thanks in advance!

    You can not using iPhoto
You can if you can hack the SQLite database ( some have posted how to do that) or use APerture
This is one of many reasons that referenced libraries are strongly not recommended in iPhoto

  • How do you seperate backups, but keep same itunes account

With the new icloud, I am finding that I need seperate back-ups, but want to keep same itunes account. how do I do this?

This has nothing to do with backups. Your iCloud backups are already separate. See at Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>manage storage. Your iTunes backups are separated to. Open iTunes go to Preferences>Devices.
Also you can turn off automatic download from settings>iTunes and App Stores on your device.
I don't understand what you wanna do with photos.
If you mean the photos that you sync with iTunes, every device can sync different things. Choose the albums or folder for each device as you like under Photos tab on iTunes sync page.

  • How to disable video display but allow audio?

    Hi,
I have been trying to disable the video display on Adobe Flash player, but I want the audio / sound to play without any video supporting it (playing) such as youtube and any other video supported by Adobe Flash. Is this even possible? It will be very much appreciated if I can do this.
    Thank you!

I'm not a hundred percent sure this will work for you since I've never used svideo out on my mac before, but if it works similar to dvi out, then do the following:
    1. Set you tv up as extended desktop rather than mirror. This will allow you to set different resolutions on the internal and external monitors.
    2. When you want to use the TV for front row, drag the Menu bar from the internal monitor to the external monitor in the monitors system pref. This will make your tv the controlling monitor and front row will play on it.
    3. When you finish with front row, drag the menu bar back to the internal monitor.
Again, this works when I have my dvi cable connected to my tv, I'm not sure if a svideo output is treated the same way, though I would think it should be.
