How to disable fsck on boot?

I was wondering how to disable fsck from running after the drive has been mounted a certain number of times.
I really don't want it doing the check.

You could always just change your fstab file to denote that you don't want that particular mount to be checked...although that wouldn't fit in with your "after a certain number of times" idea.
If you don't mind my asking, why are you looking to do this?  Since fsck checks the integrity of the filesystem it's trying to mount, and it usually doesn't take too long, why would you want to check it sometimes, and not others...I think it's extremely beneficial for unexpected filesystem problems caused by things like power-outtages, etc.  Especially if you don't reboot too often, I guess I don't see the advantage...

I know you can do it on the osx, but I have no idea how to do it on boot camp.. it would definitely help out if I can disable it.. because it just makes typing and doing things on windows very difficult. Thanks!

  • Cryptsetup - how to disable automounting during boot

    Hi,
I have encrypted partition on usb key, works fine, but when computer boots it complaint that it cannot mount the USB stick (not there usually).
How can I disable this attempt?
    My setup:
    /etc/fstab:
    /dev/mapper/usb-private      /mnt/usb-private  ext2    user,noauto       0       0
    /etc/crypttab:
    /dev/mapper/usb-private /dev/disk/by-uuid/ae5.........49b /root/keyfile luks
Notice, I have noauto in fstab, but there must be other rule that attempts to mount the drive.
Problem is not critical, PC goes on with boot without waiting, but I would like to fix it anyway.
    Regards

In your /etc/crypttab, I don't believe you need to prepend the target name with the full path.
    So instead of this:
    /dev/mapper/usb-private /dev/disk/by-uuid/ae5.........49b /root/keyfile luks
    Use this:
    usb-private /dev/disk/by-uuid/ae5.........49b /root/keyfile luks
Notice there is no /dev/mapper/ in the target name anymore. Not entirely sure this will solve your problem, but it can't hurt to try. I was going to mention the "noauto" option, yet you're already using it.

  • How to disable boot jingle, and beep upon removal of power adapter, on U330

hey ya'll, so I've been trying to figure out how to turn off the boot jingle, and really loud beep when you plugin/unplug the power supply, on the ideapad u330.  I've checked the bios, and there's nothing there that pertains to the noises, nor can I find anything within vista.
    any suggestions?
    thanks!
    My ongoing U330 review

I'm very much with you on being able to disable these sounds.. Looking around I get the feeling that there is no way, but at least we should make enough noise about it that it is covered in a BIOS update or something.
It is very annoying, particularly the power disconnection sound. It is disturbingly loud and I haven't even used it in public yet. Boy, this is going to be a problem in the library..

    Hi,
Did you mean that once users first log on Windows 8.1 and IE 11 pops up? Did this issue happened after logging off then logging in and shutting down the PC then restarting to login?
What’s the detailed information about the pop-up? The screenshot would be more helpful for us to determine the issue.
We can check if there is any logon script or task schedule configured in your environment.
For further help you, please provide more information about how you deploy Windows 8.1.

  • How to disable CTRL+ALT+S on Win8

I have an HP notebook (Pavilion 17 or something) with Windows 8 64-bit.
I mainly use it (and primarily bought it) to play video games.
The shortcut CTRL+ALT+S (which opens system information) interferes with playing video games as I use those keys when doing so and far too often at the same time.
How do I disable the CTRL+ALT+S shortcut?
I mean besides a clean install of Windows without any HP programs, obviously.

    Hello @jdk21,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how you are looking to disable the CTRL + ALT + S combination on your notebook computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To disable this combination, I recommend performing a clean boot on your computer. This can be done by following the steps in this document on How to perform a clean boot in Windows. This should help boot your system with a minimal set of drivers and software, enabling your system to keep the settings changed with the keyboard combination.
If the issue continues, I recommend following the steps below by proceeding to this file location:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\HP Help and Support
    Right click HP Support Information
    Click properties
Click the box next to shortcut key
Hit backspace so the field says 'none'
    Apply
    Done!
(Note, If you can't access the folder above you need to show hidden & system files. In a file explorer window click the view tab at the top, then click options on the right, select 'change folder and search options' if prompted. go to the view tab in the popup. check show hidden files, folders, drives. uncheck hide protected operating system files. apply)

  • How to disable Leap Motion app from startup?

Hi, I installed the Leap Motion on my Mac running Mountain Lion. Whenever my computer boots up, the Leap Motion app automatically starts up as well. I tried checking the specific settings of Leap Motion but there was no configuration there. I also tried to look on the Startup Items (System Preferences > Users & Groups) but there was no entry regarding Leap Motion.
Is there another way to check how to disable this from happening?
    Thanks.

You will find a line item
    com.leapmotion.Leap-Motion.plist
    Library/LaunchAgents
Just rename from .plist to .bak - incase you would like to auto startup again.
I believe Leap Motion chose to use LaunchAgent rather than 'Login Items' is because they couldn't get it to startup all the time.

It is your only option if you want to get rid of that other user account. It seems the system is Hard Set to boot to that account. How and why I have not Idea but the first thing you should of done was Restoring it to the Original OS, if it was not Mt Lion to begin with, in doing so getting rid of all other accounts and files from that other account.

  • How to disable alarm on a T5120?

    Hey all.
I have a Sun T5120 and when the OS boots up, a loud piercing alarm goes off.  The alarm starts during the boot-up phase:
event = 12e Array Config has been changed.........

    any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You appear to have a hardware alarm issue, not an OS issue.
I would presume that this topic is readily mentioned in the system documentation.

  • How to disable keyboard on 768

My keyboard types Q;s continous after booting up, is there a way to disable the keyboard in bios? I plan on using
it as a desktop so need to know how to disable the laptops keyboard.

    hi chuckinnc,
You probably referring to the Lenovo N100 (Type: 0768). AFAIK, this unit doesn't have an option to turn off the keyboard via BIOS (or any lenovo unit that I know off) and the only way to disable the keyboard is to detach the keyboard ribbon out of the system (note that you may get a 021x:keyboard error during POST).
As for the keyboard typing Q's continuously, you probably have a stucked Q key. Try to use a compressed air and Q-tips to remove dirt that might be causing the Q-key to be stucked.

  • How to disable automatic login and to see other accounts?

I bought MacBook Pro Retina with Mac OS X 10.8.2 in a shop, where there already was account "kiosk".
I created new account, gave him Administrator priviliges.
In the Preferences / Users & Groups I see kiosk account as "Managed", and my new account as "Admin".
    I set:
System Preferences / Security & Privacy / General / Disable automatic login = Checked.
System Preferences / Users & Groups / Login Options / Automatic login = Off.
But still I have two issues:
    1) After start the laptop automatically logins into kiosk account, while I explicitly switched off this option
    2) Apart from kiosk account, the OS doesn't see any other accounts, for example my new account.
For example, when I changed login shell for kiosk account into /usr/bin/false, I couldn't login at all. The OS said something like, there are no active accounts. So I had to set login shell back to /bin/bash using single-user mode.
    The questions are:
How to disable automatic login into kiosk account?
How to see a choice between kiosk account and my new account in the login dialog?
How to delete kiosk account? Currently the delete option is disabled for kiosk in System Preferences / Users & Groups.
So far after laptop start I automatically login into kiosk, then switch into my new account with entering a password, which is weird.
    Thanks in advance.

  • [Solved] Dropbox autostarts, I can't find how to disable it.

So I installed dropbox a while ago, but am not using it anymore.
A week ago, I started the dropbox daemon (typing 'dropbox' in the shell) to sync something - I only needed to start it this one time.
Since then, dropbox starts with every boot. I can't find out how to disable it. I tried these two commands:
    systemctl status dropbox
    systemctl status dropboxd
Both services don't exist. I don't know how to proceed from here, does anyone know what to do now?
