How to disable GNOME logout/shutdown/restart beep???

Hello, when I logout/shutdown/restart and the volume is not mute, I hear a large beep sound which annoys me very much. I tried to untick alart sound in System->Preference->Sound, but it does not help.

That module only affects the system PC speaker. You say "when the volume is not mute[d]"; is the beep coming from the soundcard or the PC speaker? If it's coming from the latter, unload the pcspkr module (and be sure to unload snd_pcsp as well if you're on a 2.6.28 or higher kernel).

  • How to disable idle logout from Yosemite?

    Hello,
My iMac logs me out after being idle for an extended period of time, usually 40-60 minutes. Generally I am streaming a movie from my iMac to my Apple TV when i notice it as when it logs off it quits playing the movie. It is very irritating.
I have done the following as per google & forum searches
    - Gone to Security in Sys Pref and ensured that the Require Password after x is unchecked - Done (was never checked)
    - Gone into Energy Saver to make sure that the computer is set to NEVER sleep display (<-i know this is unrelated) or computer, as well as ensure that Put Hard Disks to Sleep is unchecked as well.
At this point I am not sure what else to do, is it perhaps a system process that is initiating this? Can I tell in a log some how?
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi ..
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General then click the Advanced tab.
You may be prompted for your admin password to proceed.
The window offers a time limit for log out determined by minutes of inactivity
    Make sure that's not checked.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3.2 shutdown/restart button as menu options

    hi there.
i have recently add gnome as gui and i have difficulty finding how to add the buttons shutdown/restart at the top right position where logout is right now.
for the moment to shutdown or restart i have to either logout and do it from there (if it doesn't freeze, sometimes does that) or open console and shutdown or reboot from there.
can anyone help with this matter?

  • KDE logout/shutdown dialog does not appear

Hello, I am using KDE and the right click or the KMenu dialog for logout/shutdown/restart does not appear.
Also i have a startup script which doesn't load at all times. I have found sometimes the dialog appears for some sessions (randomly), and in those sessions the autostart apps actually work. So I guess they are somewhat related.
Please suggest me what steps should I take.

The fact that it sometimes works doesn't make it easier to find  a solution.

  • How to disable autostart (application) when managed server restart ?

    Hi Ppl,
How to disable autostart (application) when managed server restart ?
I want some of the applications to remain not started. In WebSPhere, we have an option disable auto start for applications.
    I don't find in weblogic.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I agree with Faisal. When you shutdown your WL server while the application is running, the thing is when you start your server again, it would automatically start the application with it. Now if the application was down when you shutdown the server, it _the application_ won't start with the server.
So it depends on the application last state, when you start your server.

  • MacBook Late 2008 (Unibody Aluminum) running Lion cannot shutdown, restart, or logout

After upgrading to mac os x lion, my macbook has not been able to restart or shutdown or even logout properly. This problem was not present when the laptop was in snow leopard. Currently, I am able to do a shutdown through the terminal by using the command:
    sudo shutdown -h now
or restart by using the command:
    sudo shutdown -r -h now
This is fine for most situations but when I am trying to install an update or a program that needs a restart, I am unable to do so. When still at the login screen, I am able to shutdown properly leading me to think that a process is preventing shutdown but I can't find anything in the console. The power button also becomes unresponsive (normally pressing it brings up the window asking whether to shutdown, restart, etc.) and can only be used to do a forced shutdown (i.e. holding it down for 10 seconds). The sleep, restart, and shutdown functions in the apple menu also do not work.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Yep, it works.
    Remove
    export DISPLAY=localhost:0
I did not read it carefully
    I put
    xhost+ localhost
    export DISPLAY=localhost:0
    together in my user .bash_profile
    I should split this:
    xhost+ localhost
    in my user .bash_profile
    and
    export DISPLAY=localhost:0
    in my root's .xinitrc
    That should do the job.

  • Applescript quit infinite looping when restart/logout/shutdown

recently I have a infinite looping applescript, and I save the is script as a "app", and running it on my macbook.
my problem was when every time I want to restart the OS, it keep saying my app can't be quit, and I have to force quit.
Anyway to write the script auto detect the shutdown/logout and restart, so there I can use the "quit" handle.
    on quit
      continue quit
    end quit
    repeat
    end repeat

There exists, however, a very inelegant solution: using two stay-open apps at the same time, as follows:
    App_1
    global flag
    set flag to false
    on quit
          set flag to true
    end quit
    repeat
          if flag then exit repeat
    end repeat
    continue quit
    App_2
    on quit
          try
                tell application "System Events"
set frontmost of process "App_1" to true
                      delay 1
                      keystroke "q" using {command down}
                end tell
                delay 1
          end try
          continue quit
    end quit
I'm sure though someone else will find a very simple and elegant solution.

If you see that pop up you enabled icloud. Whether you want or do not want now to use it irrelevant until you actually disable activation lock.
In order to do that you have to change your apple id back to do that just long enough to sign in and back out. System will ask you to verify, don't.
Just sign in on the prompt you getting and then logout. Once done, change apple id to what you have now and verify. Then decide if you want to
use icloud (who does not want to be able to track their phone if lost or stolen).

  • Ctrl+shift+U - Unicode input, how to disable?

Anyone knows how to disable ctrl+shift+u unicode input?
Whenever I press ctrl+shift+u, I get an underlined "u" and can enter some unicode number. However, I don't need it, and because of this, for example in qt creator the predefined "ctrl+shift+u" keyboard shortcut doesn't work.
I have no idea where this mapping comes from (obviously not qt, since ctrl+shift+u is mapped to an important shortcut), but maybe gnome or the xserver?
    Thanks already

I just updated from Ubuntu 13.10 to Ubuntu 14.04 and I found that I have exactly this same problem, which is being caused by ibus (my up to date Arch system doesn't seem to have the problem).  You can see if ibus is running on your system via:

I'm running XFCE and there is now a "Language Support" icon in the "Settings" panel (select "Settings Manager" on the main menu.)  The Language Support app contains a "Keyboard input method system" selection on Language tab.  I changed it from 'IBus' to 'None' and now Ctrl+Shift+u works again.  (This is a quick and dirty solution that works for me because I'm only using English and never have to type special characters.)

  • How to disable MOH for "on Hold" button.

    CUCM 6.1
When on a conference call if a user presses "on Hold" button, music is played for all participants and nobody can hear anything. How can I disable music on hold for all users?
Please note, I could disable MOH for conferencing. But this is different issue. This is e.g. when everyone is in a conference (no matter what conference system, it could be ready talk, meeting place,...)and a participant receives another call and wants to answer the other call, in this situation I don't want any MOH played for other participants.
    Thanks,
    rdianat

I first tried "suppress MOH for conference" by service--> service parameters -->select server --> select callmanager --> go to "clusterwide parameters(Feature-General) --> change the "Suppress MOH to conference Bridge" to true"
This did not work. The reason is that these users are accessing an internet coferencing system like "ready talk" and not a cisco conferencing system, so for Cisco this does not appear to be a conference but it is like a regular call.
I only have two callmanagers which also serve as MOH servers.
Media Resources-->Music On-Hold Server -->Set Run Flag to "NO"
This is explained in "MOH FAQ" from cisco.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_qanda_item09186a0080094766.shtml#q21
The other way of doing this is not to assign any MOH server to the MRG or create a device pool without any MOH. (Media Resource Group set to NONE)
Although the above disabled the MOH, still the TOH "Tone on Hold" which is beep-beeps played every 10 seconds was annoying. So I increased the interval to 20 seconds by the same instructions in "MOH FAQ" how to disable / change TOH. Go to same page explained above but to "clusterwide Parameters(Device-General) and change "Tone on Hold Timer" Value to 20.

  • Disabling "Application Error" to restart using restart button in sxmb_moni

    Hi Experts,
I have a scenario of JDBC to inbound Proxy. In this we have created Fault message type to capture any error. The requirement is to disable the option of Restart in SXMB_MONI for application error generated with Fault message. We have done coding for generating application error in inbound proxy code.Looking for a quick reply.
I am looking for disabling the "Application Error" generated from Fault message of inbound proxy to "Resart" using Resart button in SXMB_moni of Application system ECC.what I am referring to is how to disable u201Crestartu201D (not resend) of the messages in SXMB_MONI if they have errors.
For example, the interface to load some entries calls a proxy which may load some messages successfully and some may result
in errors. This would appear in the SXMB_MONI with application errors with restart capability. If the user restarts the message it will post the entries again which were successfully posted earlier. We would like to prevent this from happening.
I have gone through the below links. But no luck. Please suggest me if anyone know the solution/hint for this.
    Proxy framework: Catch CX_AI_SYSTEM_FAULT
Re: SXMB_MONI - Message Status - Automatic Restart
    /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/11/29/xi-how-to-re-process-failed-xi-messages-automatically

I do not think you could do that as Asyn messages are always restartable. May be you should look at changing the proxy code so that it does not through application errors but instead would update a Ztable with list of items need to be reprocessed. And this can be sent to the JDBC system as reprocess request.

  • How to disable Cool N Quiet driver when it isnt in the bios or registry for Roxio game capture?

    1. HP G60-120 US Notebook PC
    2. Windows 7 32-bit
    3. No error messages
    4. No changes before issue occured.
I was told by Roxio (company of the capture card I bought to record gameplay on my Xbox) to call HP and get my Cool N Quiet driver disabled after I updated my other drivers and still had problems with my capture card. Can somebody tell me where to find it other than in the registry and bios because it is NOT in there and I have looked already more than 5 times or if you know where I can get it remotely disabled. HP cannot remotely disable it because I just talked to them and they don't have the power to do that.

No, Corecenter is almost useless and is NOT needed to "activate" Cool n Quiet.  The best it can do is tell you fan speed and temps, and even that is questionable.  It will also tell you clock speed but you can get that from right clicking "My Computer" choose Properties, go to General tab, note mhz displayed there.  If it is about half of full clock speed for your CPU, then CnQ is working right.  If it shows full clock speed, then CoolnQuiet is NOT working and you need to re-read Mr. Woo's original post which gives details about how to enable it.
Next, about fan speed.  You have to understand that CnQ does not have anything to do with fan speed directly. Unless you have fan speed control disabled in BIOS, then your fan is going to control as you described whether you have CnQ enabled or not. In BIOS, in the H/W Monitor section, there is a place to enable or disable fan speed control - it's called CPU Smart Temperature Monitor or something like that.
As long as it is enabled and your fan is compatible and hooked up right, the fan will ramp up and down to control temperature. This is independent of CnQ.  And it is independent of Corecenter.  Disable CnQ and shutdown CoreCenter, the mobo still controls fan speed.

  • How to disable illuminated Multimedia Console Buttons sensitivity

Does anyone know how to disable or reduce the sensitivity of the illuminated +Multimedia Console Buttons+ to the left of the main keyboard?
    Cheers, Alun

Firs of all it would be really interesting to know what notebook you have.
On many Toshiba notebooks you can find the Toshiba Assist.
As far as I know there you can find the Toshiba Button Support and could disable this.
Furthermore you this can be done also in msconfig (to start this you have to type msconfig in RUN)
But note; this is very sensitive operation and this could affect the OS functionality if you disable wrong process. So be careful.
However, choose the Startup tab and scroll down till you find Toshiba Button Support and uncheck it.
If you will not find this in Startup then I would recommend using other procedure.
The VAP (value added package) controls this buttons.
So if you don't want to use the buttons you have to remove button support utility. I don't know if you can remove it as single utility but what you can do is to remove VAP from the system. After restart install VAP again (download on Toshiba support page) and choose custom installation. In front of button support utility remove the check mark and continue installation.
    Good luck
